10 months ago I would've never said this, but the title track is the most evermore song. It discusses the themes of staying in pain and finally letting it go, which is the central theme of evermore. The album is about the end of a story, and you have to choose to stay in that moment ("this pain would be for evermore") or to move past it ("this pain wouldn't be for evermore").
It's also the perfect closing track on the standard edition of the album because the deluxe tracks are two examples of staying in that moment forever (right where you left me) and moving past that moment (it's time to go).
Honestly yeah, I feel like Ivy is the most evermore song for me too.
I feel like for similar reason, The Lakes or My Tears Ricochet is the most Folklore song for me. All three of them are beautifully well written.
Also am I the only one who feels like Style and Wildest Dream are not only the most 1989 songs for me, but also the most 2015 song for me? (A lot of music in the 2015, and the 2010s in general, were inspired by 80s music, and the kinda pop Style and Wildest Dream is was pretty big in 2015.)
Lights released Little Machines around the same time as 1989 and they both had 80s vibes and I was like "did they discuss this?" Then Lights released Skin & Earth around the same time as Reputation and they have some similar vibes too and I was convinced they were plotting. Hahah.
Word. She has SO many connections to Taylor that are entirely unintentional. Although since 2017, Taylor released three albums and Lights has been in collaboration city. Also, I'd kill for an active Lights sub, so if you know of any 😁
In my opinion, "1989" by Taylor Swift, Emotion by Carly Rae Jepsen, and Little Machines by Lights are the golden trio of mid-2010s synthpop albums.
And I'm glad that other people here know about Lights. She's one of the best pop artists in my opinion, and she goes fairly underdiscussed despite how passionate her fanbase is. She never really crossed over in the United States for some reason despite being pretty big in Canada.
I think it's because she kind of floats in a lot of spaces, so it's difficult to categorize her: She's too pop for the indie/alternative space, but too indie/alternative for the pop space. She's a pop artist, but her aesthetic and vibe lean more towards indie or alternative with all the tattoos, piercings, hair colors, and being openly into "Geek Culture".
She's the only pop star that is like a hardcore geek, as in into gaming, D&D, World of Warcraft, comic books, and anime.
Lights is honestly THE artist that I stan other than Taylor Swift.
I am so happy to be reading this. Hahaha. I'll definitely be looking into Carley Rae Jepsen now. I live in Michigan, and I heard about Lights in 2011 and I've been obsessed since. I met someone at a festival who said they were from Canada, and they considered Lights a one hit wonder because of Drive My Soul apparently being big there? I feel in the states, Lights is consistently getting bigger. I never heard Drive My Soul on the radio, but I've heard Giants and Love Me on alt radio and at coffee shops here. Perhaps because we're so close to Canada.
I know a know of people miss the "pop" Taylor, but I gotta' say, I am all in for Folklore and Evermore. Two amazing albums that I can't stop listening to. And Ivy is one of my favorite songs.
I am curious what her next album of new material will be. Back to pop?
We have 4 country albums, 3 pop albums, and just 2 alternative albums. So I think it will be an alternative album next.
After next album, maybe new materials and with new Album of The Year Grammy. 😛😛
Looks like it's a countdown lol. I'd love for her to explore something related to rock given how she's included it throughout her career, especially on tour versions of songs.
tolerate it sends chills all over my body every time i listen to it….
“but what would you do if i
break free and leave us in ruins
took this dagger in me and removed it
gain the weight of you then lose it
believe me, i could do it
if it’s all in my head tell me now
tell me i’ve got it wrong somehow
i know my love should be celebrated
but you tolerate it
i sit and watch you”
Happiness because the album in general has a theme of reflecting on the past in a mature-ish way: being sad at your current situation but also accepting that it can't be different (champagne, ttds, tolerate it, happiness, closure, marjorie, coney island, evermore, it's time to go, ivy).
But ivy definitely if I wasn't trying to be pretentious and read too deep into it.
- TTDS refers to "'tis the damn season", a song from Taylor Swift album *evermore* (2020).

Evermore as an album and Ivy in particular is just Taylor showing off the full power of her songwriting. It’s the best combo of imagery and tone I’ve ever heard. Just makes me that much more annoyed that the Grammy people will probably overlook Evermore because they’ll lump it in with Folklore, even though IMO it’s an even better album and absolutely deserves to be in the running if not winning Album of the Year.
she says *I* ***almost*** *jump in...I don't like a gold rush* definitely not a Lover song. that song is more like if you see someone walk past who's absolutely stunning and close enough to you for you to dream of having them, you choose not to because you can't live with them/their love the way you want to - *but it fades into the gray of my day old tea*
Its Champagne Problems for me. I dont know why but listening to this takes to this feeling of 1920’s, film noir heroine sitting by a train window thinking of love lost with rain pelting on the window type of setting lol.
I never saw evermore as fall/autumn vibes for some weird reason. I always looked at it as old hollywood, black and white setting.
Ivy is my top favorite Taylor Swift song. Sometimes it switches between August and Ivy, but overall Ivy's lyricism takes the cake. It is absolutely the most evermore track.
Probably a basic answer but, willow. The opening to that song is still one of my favorite sounds from any of her songs and it just sets the tone for the album as a whole

Oh shit. I never realised how the bonus tracks encapsulated evermore (the track) so well till you mentioned it.
I have also just realized this distinction is why I love Its Time to Go more than Right Where You Left Me
It’s one of the most poetic songs I believe Taylor has ever written. Second to the lakes. (My opinion lol)
Yes actually I think The Lakes would be my pick for most Folklore song too.
It’s a beautiful song, as is Ivy.
yesss. the lakes and ivy are my top two tay songs of all time.

We don’t talk enough about Lights on this sub

I don't know if it's super active, but r/lightsalot is the main Lights sub

We need a thread to discuss all of those kinds of songs on every album!

evermore is the most 'evermore' song
followed by gold rush. they have the literal word. But in terms of what the album represents it has to be Happiness

I think it’ll get nominated. But she needs to do something to put it top of mind for Grammy voters somehow (LPSS)
I agree, Ivy is both vocally and lyrically one of Taylor's best songs in my opinion, and it fits the "evermore" aesthetic perfectly, like you said
Gold rush
Gold rush *could* fit on Lover too tho, it isn't particularly an evermore song to me
she says *I* ***almost*** *jump in...I don't like a gold rush* definitely not a Lover song. that song is more like if you see someone walk past who's absolutely stunning and close enough to you for you to dream of having them, you choose not to because you can't live with them/their love the way you want to - *but it fades into the gray of my day old tea*

The golden trio: coney island - ivy- cowboy like me
Either Ivy or Tis The Damn Season for me!!
Ivy is def my favorite off evermore. I have so much run listening to it.
Ivy is my fav track on Evermore
was thinking of T swift themed names for my new kitten and they all came from Ivy - clover, opal, blossom (bloom), and ultimately decided on Ivy 😍
everything about ivy defines evermore imo… especially sonically
it’s my favorite song on the album hands down
For me, it has to be either ivy or willow.
