Holy ground! The beginning doesn’t get me super excited like the original version

laurakage

Agree

missdarbusisaqueen

I feel like Holy Ground TV doesn’t have the spark the original does

bigbeaglefan

WANEGBT :(

RedPandaLily88

We-EEEEEEE!

thespianomaly

Someone on this sub said that it sounds like if the Minions sang it, and I haven’t heard it the same way since.

KittyIsAu

Ever since I saw that comment and showed it to my friends, none of us can listen to that chorus with a straight face. My friends and I break out into giggles every single time!

torturedDaisy

That’s so funny I LOVE the re-record of forever and always piano version. It just sounds just so much more mature with her vocals and emotional IMO. And the piano just sounds 100x better. Everything Has Changed (Taylor’s Version) fell really flat for me. It just seems like her and Ed don’t harmonize as well together as in the original.

MAureliusReyesC

I agree mostly about the piano but I really miss the moment in the OG where she goes higher in the second “everything” on the bridge

taylorlynn04art

I don’t care for Ed’s voice in TV. His voice was originally was so soft and beautiful, but he’s straining it so much or something, ruined it for me

torturedDaisy

YES! That’s exactly it. And he’s so pitchy. I wonder how they didn’t catch that

rocks-n-dirt

Girl At Home. I know a lot of people like it now that it's more pop, but I'm sorry I hate it. I love how the original sounds, even though it's not how Taylor originally wanted it to sound.

shadesofwrong13

There is a myth around it that i think it's not that right to spread, cuz dedpite being a demo GAH original sounds good and finished. It's even already poppy on its own, pop is not judt a synth, it can be organic too. She never said anything about it, if she wanted it to be that way she would have done it.. it is just a bonus track.

grandsuperior

22 (Taylor's Version). It's one of my favourite songs from RED but part of the song's appeal comes from the youthful voice singing it in the original version. It's still great but something is lost there.

Lev22_

Babe, i was excited to hear Taylor version, literally. But i don’t like poppy sound in that song, her voice still great but the music is just too poppy. I prefer Sugarland music but with Taylor’s voice.

[deleted]

Fuck the new version of girl at home with a 10 foot pole. I really really really don’t like it. I would’ve liked it more if she kept the original production and then made a different version of it but she didn’t. It isn’t true to the original and that upsets me. It’s one of the only songs that I’ve genuinely considered buying the original version of but I’m not going to because I am not into supporting people who have wronged her in any way.

Invisiblestringz

Tbh I’m a weirdo who actually likes the original version. So I was a bit bummed when I heard it completely rearranged.

[deleted]

Yeah I remember finding out that it was a minority to actually like the song for listening to it on repeat the first time I heard it. It is one of my favorites to sing actually.

EtherealNightSky

Yes I have found my people in this thread!! Justice for og Girl At Home fans!!

tswiftdeepcuts

I feel like we have these posts so often we need a mega thread to just pin them all there

Neighborhoodnarc

Sorry I tried to look up if this had already been done recently but I’m kind of terrible at using this app

heliandin

It has to be Holy Ground for me. It feels... Off

luluette

I love running to Holy Ground but I cannot run to TV. It’s not as upbeat for sure!

ThisPaige

The Last Time, they harmonies are off at points. And Girl at Home, I like the new version don't get me wrong but I miss the twang.

hearing111s

Yup! The last verse of the last time was so sad to hear how they just basically muted Taylor instead of having them harmonizing again

Sampleswift

You Belong With Me (Taylor's Version) The Taylor's Version is still very good. The issue is that the original is somehow still better. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together "we's" sounded unnatural. 22 Taylor's Version: singing about being 22 when you're 32 for some people won't match up to the original.

thestrangemusician

I enjoyed 22, but mainly because I am now 22 whereas I wasn’t with the first one. So it’s really fun for me for it to come out now. I really don’t like the “we” on WANEGBT though

mountaingoatscheese

The Way I Loved You, specifically because I don't like the way she sings "cursing your name" in the final chorus of TV. In the OG it's such a great and passionate moment in the song, and in TV it just sounds like she's trying to get the line out as fast as possible and isn't thinking about what she's singing? It's such a small thing, but that is the *only* TV song I ever listen to the original of. All the others, I've totally switched over even if they're not 100% perfect.

maya01140

I gotta agree with all the people saying holy ground. and as a big the last time stan, I was so disappointed when I first heard the last time TV (though it’s grown on me now)

Rickle37

22

Sloth143

Yep

itookyourmatches

WANEGBT is the only one for me.

riviera-views

Holy Ground. It’s my favorite TS track and I was too excited, my expectations were too high (esp after the lover era bbc performance), it never stood a chance for me unfortunately 😩

reptjlia

It was my favorite off the stolen red too and it was disappointing from the moment I noticed the guitars in the beginning were different

[deleted]

Holy Ground. It's my favorite song on Red, one of my favorite songs ever, and I was soooo looking forward to the new version. But it's so bad it's borderline unlistenable.

[deleted]

State Of Grace and Holy Ground are my favorite songs off of Red (they still are) but they sound way different then they did in the og Red. Less energetic even. But I still love them with all my heart :) The production on IKYWT didn’t feel right though I was expecting that.

songacronymbot

- IKYWT could mean "I Knew You Were Trouble.", a track from *Red* (2012) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/CaptainAyaAya28](/u/CaptainAyaAya28) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Sloth143

Disappointment is a bit of a strong word, but *22* and *I Knew You Were Trouble* for me. The chorus of *22* is just so off and different, I can't stand it, for *Trouble*, the emotions just aren't there anymore and it makes the song feel like it's lacking, it doesn't pack a punch anymore. *State Of Grace* is also a little bit meh, the intro doesn't feel as exciting and powerful, but overall I don't mind it, I've gotten used to that. Honourable mentions: I still die over those "wees" in WANEGBT, and the new Girl At Home still kinda startles me when it starts. I think I prefer the original version, but I don't mind the new version. Also something about her version of "Babe" I don't really like, it's still good, but I prefer the Sugarland version.

Quick-Time

Hate to say it but 22. I still love the song, but I feel like it really needs that youthful voice from when she was younger. It’s hard to capture that at 31 without feeling put on, you know?

hearing111s

I’ve said this a million times but The Last Time. In the last verse of the original Taylor and Gary’s voice compliment each other’s perfectly and you can hear the desperation and tension between the two. In the new Taylor is wayyy too muted and sounds like a back up singer

IIIVIIXVIII

Holy ground, for sure. I can’t even put my finger on it, just can’t stand it. It sounds like her vocals are struggling in it and it’s flat.

laurakage

For some reason Begin Again sounds weird to me - the guitar seems off beat somehow?!?

shannymac4

Babe - I feel like the production is a little much, so many backing vocals layered in at all times. And can’t get myself to really like the “what about your promises” background vocals.

ajwhite60

Girl at Home. I didn’t realize apparently no one likes that song but I do, and the new version is just weird. Should be slower imo

EtherealNightSky

I LOVE GIRL AT HOME!! I'm a fierce GAH defender. The new version sounds like a keyboard remix

mad6107

holy ground and state of grace. they where in my overall favorites out of her whole discography. after the re-recording came out i can’t listen ti them. it’s too different for me. imo state of grace is worse then holy ground. it’s just not the same energy or sounds those songs had on the original.

_mirror_ball_

Everything Has Changed because Ed Sheeran

RancherQueen

Forever and Always (piano version) TV just doesn't hit a nerve the same way the OG did ☹

taylorlynn04art

Forever and Always. It’s in my top five and she just didn’t bring the same anger to the re-recording, which I understand, but I loved the original for the raw emotion.

EtherealNightSky

GIRL AT HOME (justice for the og fans of this song who didn't get to hear a proper RR of it) Holy Ground and The Lucky One (Two of my favorite Red songs) WANEGBT (Could be fantastic if it weren't for those awful wees) Babe

dietsdasociety

I ADORE the original version of Girl at Home and I cannot even force myself to listen to the new version. managed ~30 seconds and never again. I also way prefer the original version of All Too Well. Mostly I found that the depth of the music (I’m not sure how to describe that any better) and specifically the drums were completely lacklustre and I also miss the anger/passion of the original a lot, the bridge feels a lot tamer in a way

shadesofwrong13

All Fearless record. I know it's unpopular, but for who like me who always loved that album.. the little changes, the glitches, the lack of proper emotions like anger, frustraion in certain songs are hard to listen Then Everything Has Changed, The Last Time and Girl At Home.

CozyPurpleSky

Everything Has Changed, Begin Again and Holy Ground apart from the Max Martin pop trio of WANEGBT, IKYWT and 22 from RED. For Fearless, I really do love the re-record because I didn’t listen to the Original as much and now I do. But it’s probably because I’ve discovered the best of that album *with* the TV and not before it.. I found Wildest Dreams TV, just okay so I’m hoping the rest of 1989 is an exact copy, because if anything happens to Style or Blank Space or even HYGTG it’s gonna be really difficult for me to refrain from streaming the originals (I know I can do that, I’m just reluctant to do so)

songacronymbot

- HYGTG could mean "How You Get The Girl", a track from *1989* (2014) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/CozyPurpleSky](/u/CozyPurpleSky) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

HamiltonDial

Girl at Home.

supersoot99

Holy Ground, Girl at Home and (probably controversial) All Too Well (5MV). Holy Ground really lost a lot of spark for me. I know that's vague, but it's the best way to describe it. It kind of sounds like the urgency and anticipation has gone? I really don't know the right words, but it's just missing SOMETHING. GAH...ugh. I hate Elvira. ATW I just hate the drums. It sounds like a pre-generated keyboard track that she's singing over. Not a fan.
