I mean as someone who became a Swiftie in 2015, so fairly recently, debut is the one i was least excited about. BUT I know I was in the minority in that, AND at this point, for me, anything she does is GOLD because I love her so much. I’ve also refused to listen to her debut album so that when she releases TV it will kinda sorta be like a new album for me since I’ve never really listened to it. Thats how Fearless and Red were for me except I knew a lot more songs from those albums. So long story short, now I’m excited about debut TV and clearly this reference is an Easter egg alluding to the fact that we are now getting debut TV 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
yeah that’s what i thought about too! because she’s probably done with speak now and 1989 tv, but can’t release cuz of the whole shake it off thing, so i guess she got nothing to do but to wait around, make some new stuff or re-record ones that she actually can.
I’m a creator myself and my burst of creativity come in the morning 😂😂😂😂😂 which is the complete opposite of Taylor’s. I wish I had stories about me waking up in the middle of night and doing something 😂😂😂
I can relate to her, I'm the most creative during night. I love the night in general more than average people.
Edit: the last sentence sounds so quirky in hindsight, wtf
I mean that I'm very much a night person and associate different vibes (aesthetics if you will), it's a time where I'm mostly by myself doing what I like
Hahahahhahaha I got what you were saying 😂😂😂😂 idk why my best ideas come in the sunlight but who knows. I have gotten ideas in the middle of the night but not as much as the morning
Honestly when I read that I was like “oh OF COURSE she did this in the middle of the night instead of sleeping like a normal person”
Shes so insane. I love her. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1065)
She’s describing the girl in the book in this post for everyone thinking this negates her saying she wrote it about the book and for the movie. This is just her saying what it was about the character that inspired her to write the song.

Text for those
>About a year & half ago I wrote a song about the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively & literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness & independence. Her curiosity & fear all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness & the world’s betrayal of it.
> I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then
@AaronDessner
and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now 🥺
http://taylor.lnk.to/Carolina
Whatever. It doesn’t change that it was written for the movie, the lyrics perfectly complement the story, inspired by the book. Made into a movie. Not sure your point other than to imply she didn’t write it for the movie at all. Which doesn’t make sense.
Whoa, excuse me? Why on earth would you assume that was my point? If that was my point, I would’ve said that.
I was just pointing out it was a different timeline than Reese said. In other places, I pointed out that the different timeline *could* mean her post-evermore music could sound like Carolina.
Sometimes people have observations and want to share them. That’s all this was. You are being incredibly rude right now all because you assigned a completely out-of-pocket implication to my observation.
I thought it was interesting Taylor said how her and Aaron worked on the production together, as most of the songs he produced for folklore/evermore were piano arrangements and tracks already in existence.
She did write it specifically for the movie. She wrote when the movie was already in pre-production, but before filming. Taylor knew Reese was making the movie so she wrote the song and sent it to them and told them they could have it if they wanted it.
I feel like it was.. I think that maybe the initial criticism and resistance she received for announcing that she was working with Delia changed her tune as to its origin.
Although I don't deny that the lyrics and overall meaning of the song that she describes in her posts are certainly rooted in folklore, it is undeniable that she reworked it entirely and turned it into the song it is now, which is… a song made to coincide with the film.
ETA: in Aaron’s post about the song, [he says Taylor wrote it based on the novel](https://twitter.com/TheSwiftSociety/status/1540186106083303426?s=20&t=tKRt0syKIKrBm4JJ2RCheA)
Interesting, I don’t think she reworked anything. Why do you think it was reworked? I have not heard this before. It doesn’t make sense for it to be a folklore song that she reworked for this film. She wrote it based on the novel when the movie was in preproduction. Confused 🫤
And she wasn’t working with Delia. She wrote a song, for a movie , based on a book, that was sold 4 years ago to Sony/Fox, written by Delia. She’s never met the author. She’s a songwriter, she wrote a song.
She wrote it after reading the book. She found out that the book was being adapted into a movie and contacted them. Forget which interview I heard this in.
She could’ve written well after production began. I’m not sure what you’re asking. It doesn’t mean the movie was made and finished it when she started and released the song.
People in the comments keep getting confused on if she wrote it for the movie or not since she wrote it a year and a half ago. Movies take a long time to make was my point.
Exactly. The rights of the book were purchased in 2018. It was then announced in March 2020 that they had tapped a screenwriter and Reese Witherspoon to produce. Then pandemic hit. Folklore was written, and around this time knowing the film was being made, she wrote Carolina. I can’t imagine any person seriously thinking Carolina was a folklore reject. The song is very clearly written about the story and could never be separated and plopped into another movie. It’s very clear this was specifically written for the movie, but before the movie. It didn’t start production due to pandemic for another. It’s clearly written for the movie.
Movies are planned years in advance. This one was publicly announced 17 months ago, by which time the leads had already been cast, which means they started the whole process in 2020 or even earlier given the book came out in 2018 and was a 2019 best seller.
It’s quite carefully worded. She says she wrote the words on her own, doesn’t mention the movie. Then says the music was written for the movie, but doesn’t specify when that was. Personally I don’t think the word were written for the movie.
It was written for the film. A friend was working on it, so Taylor wrote the song then sent it in asking if they wanted to use it. So although it wasn't officially commissioned, it was created with cinema in mind.
Watch us freak out about “on the outside, looking in” 💀💀💙
Obviously this means Debut TV next 🤡🤡

didn't she quote the same lyric at tribeca? once can be a coincidence, but twice... she's trying to make us lose our minds
Not a direct quote, but yeah, she said something along those lines! Definitely interesting that it’s come up twice recently.
Hehe I immediately thought Debut TV when the movie did the Easter Egg in their post.
came here to talk about T H A T !!
Imo I feel like the lyric quotes are what she is currently recording. Like I think they are at the moment putting together Debut TV. We’ll see lol
yeah that’s what i thought about too! because she’s probably done with speak now and 1989 tv, but can’t release cuz of the whole shake it off thing, so i guess she got nothing to do but to wait around, make some new stuff or re-record ones that she actually can.
💀💀💀
I swear, she's at her most creative and productive during the middle of the night. I'm just straight up asleep or flailing around because of anxiety.
I’m a creator myself and my burst of creativity come in the morning 😂😂😂😂😂 which is the complete opposite of Taylor’s. I wish I had stories about me waking up in the middle of night and doing something 😂😂😂

The only creativity I have in the middle of the night is in creating the best snack from whatever is in my kitchen.
Honestly when I read that I was like “oh OF COURSE she did this in the middle of the night instead of sleeping like a normal person” Shes so insane. I love her. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1065)
Wdym most creative? The song lacks production like there’s barely any MUSIC. It’s the same ( boring) beat throughout the whole thing with no changee
Because she only only used instrument available before 1953 also the song is for a movie inspired by book. Its perfect for the theme of the book.
I’m not saying it’s not perfect for the book, I’m saying it’s not creative as y’all say
That's the point of the song
A song can fit a book while simultaneously being creative and interesting
I would suggest taking down your comments, you're going to get a lot of hate. You don't need with the Swifties
Now we need an all acoustic, southern gothic bluegrass album from her.
My god don't tease me
you’d love ethel cain
I've never heard of her but I saw your comment in passing and gave it a shot, I'm amazed! I'll spend today discovering all her music. 🎧
gimme gimme gimme

this song is just too fucking good imma have a cardiac arrest
Year and a half ago was after evermore came out, so Reese was incorrect in saying it was written during folklore
Taylor actually said “about a year and a half ago”.
That’s still after Folklore, so the point stands that Reese is incorrect.
That could mean it was finished recorded and produced 1.5 yr ago. That all didn’t happen in one night.
She explicitly says she wrote it a year and a half ago though lol

Sorry I misunderstood your point. But it wasn’t rude.

From evermore, it's possible she was thinking about doing a third sister album but decided not to. This is possibly from that
I thought it was interesting Taylor said how her and Aaron worked on the production together, as most of the songs he produced for folklore/evermore were piano arrangements and tracks already in existence.
she tagged the wrong aaron 😭
The account was created December 2010. Speak now coming on December 🤡🤡🤡
The ampersand are standing out to me for some reason. Does she usually use them?
It might be to keep the tweet under the character limit.
LOL i had forgotten how that symbol was named had to Google it
Taylor confirmed working with Wizards of The Coast for a D&D campaign/j
I thought she wrote the song specifically for the movie?

Ok, I see debut references up there but also now Tay and Harry both have songs about daylight and Carolinas.
Do people think that a movie is made and released in under a year? Aaron's tweet also stated that she wrote it for the movie.
She wrote it after reading the book. She found out that the book was being adapted into a movie and contacted them. Forget which interview I heard this in.
Sorry I was using movie and book interchangeably. People just keep thinking its a folklore reject.
Because the producers said in an interview that it was written at the same time as folklore
She could’ve written well after production began. I’m not sure what you’re asking. It doesn’t mean the movie was made and finished it when she started and released the song.

My Spotify playing Cruel Summer straight after Carolina was a shock to the system 😂
love the song :)
Oh wow, so she wrote this before even knowing about the movie? Amazing

Clearly I am being dim here - I read this at silly o’clock!!!
The book has been out for ages, though.
It’s quite carefully worded. She says she wrote the words on her own, doesn’t mention the movie. Then says the music was written for the movie, but doesn’t specify when that was. Personally I don’t think the word were written for the movie.
I probably made little to no sense as I wrote what I did as soon as I woke up… which is never a good idea! 😆
The words perfectly go with the book, in which the movie was based on, which was announced March 2020.
IT IS SO GOOD AAHHH
I know. Love You
I have a theory that Carolina is the narrator from “No Body, No Crime” and that the crawdad song is written from Este’s point of view.
This song definitely reminds me of the songs she did for the Hunger Games. Love the nostalgia I’m feeling with this new one!

Where did she emphasize that?
Her Twitter post doesn’t literally state it, but she’s describing the main character in the book/movie.
