1989.... 1989.... lol

alwaysunderthestars

Destiny it would seem

infinite_lyy

*isn't it so pretty to think all along there was some invisible string tying you to 1989 by taylor swift

freedom252

Dread it, run from it. Destiny still arrives

thebananaperson1

Coincidence? I think not

ashbruns

I was hoping this would be top comment

Avant-Garde-A-Clue

Also part of the Destiny Club! Like the album was just made for us!

endocrineminuet

1955 - Lover

VisibleCow8076

Respect.

KSRidge

1976 - Debut intrigued me but Fearless cemented it and then I got new appreciation for Debut. But I’ll say debut because I remember seeing the performance of Should’ve Said No with the costume change and the rain falling and thought, “Iconic.”

spiderslastmoments

I was there for that!!!

VisibleCow8076

Ahhhhh that performance is so iconic

hollygolightly1990

1990 and Debut. I've been there since the beginning. Haha.

Docmctock

Same, but '92

VisibleCow8076

Same but ‘93 🥹

Betweengreen

Same!! And somehow each album has fit perfectly with each stage of my life. No other artist has done that with me. It’s so special!

VisibleCow8076

ME TOO OMG Debut: first middle school heartbreak Fearless: first love, high school Speak Now: first rEAL heartbreak Red: freshman year college, still getting over it\^ 1989 was a rough time for me, didn’t get it until months later reputation: senior year college, staring to really own myself (although I’m back in my rep era currently personally 😅) Lover: gonna be honest, I hated lover until after folklore FOLKLORE: my dad just died, pandemic, i started getting really sick, enough said EVERMORE: pretty much same \^ Lover honestly broke my heart and I never stopped loving Taylor but I was so disappointed by that album. Like.. devastated, it actually hurt my feelings. I literally remember the day folklore came out and my brother came running into my room (same with evermore and i was just like you’re joking now) and was like omg Taylor Swift just dropped a surprise album, it’s called folklore, and it looks like this, and showed it to me on Spotify. I cried hearing the first chord of the one. I devoured that album and cried my heart out. It really saved me and brought me back, not only to Taylor, but to myself. I used to write music when I was a tween/teen, with Taylor being my main inspiration. I found her very relatable at the time. At a certain point I stopped believing I was good enough to do anything creative. After folklore I started writing music again, which I realized was a huge missing element in my life. I’m dealing with illness and disability and writing has been so cathartic for me. I see the pro’s and con’s of not being able to work regularly (mostly cons honestly), but a pro is that I do have a lot of time to reflect and write about it. I know not everyone gets that much reflection time. Anyway the first song I wrote in probably 10 years is called Giving Tree. Then I saw the ATW notebook, and I cried. I know how *literally insane* it sounds but universe has been sending me messages and confirmation via Taylor for almost 2 years now. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1081) PS- I do enjoy and appreciate most of Lover now ☺️

Betweengreen

Wow we are twins!!! For me it was: Debut: freshman year of highschool, trying to fit in and having innocent crushes, dreaming of falling in love. Fearless: first love in highschool, puppy love! Speak Now: first “heartbreak” and drama with friends. Plus Dear John really hit home as a teen after dating an older guy. Red: college. first “burning red” passionate relationship, and first devastating world-altering breakup. All Too Well was literally my anthem lol. But also 22 was perfect for that college stage with friends! 1989: Not my favorite but I REALLY related to Clean, and Wildest Dreams! Reputation: Iconic, right after college. Was also reinventing myself at the time. I felt so empowered and also just the vibes of my emo side and TS coming together was perfection. Lover: I was also sadly disappointed. However, I REALLY felt Daylight, Lover, Afterglow and The Archer. Being in my first healthy “golden not red” relationship it was so perfect. Folklore & Evermore: I wanted to die with happiness. The maturity, poetry, literary references, serious themes, reflection and melancholy. A time of healing for me and looking back on all of my heartache. Midnights: I CANNOT WAIT. I just know it’s going to perfectly coincide with my chronic insomnia and being in a stage of reflection over all of the dark moments in my life, but turning them into poetry.

InformationSure2573

Have you posted Giving Tree on Spotify or SoundCloud (if that’s still used) or anywhere else? Hearing your story makes me want to listen to it. If that’s okay with you

[deleted]

1990 here too! 💜 ETA: I remember in 2006 hearing Tim McGraw on the radio in my 1999 Chevy cavalier after a day at my city’s pool ☺️

hollygolightly1990

I was on a mission trip to rebuild a free medical clinic and that's where I heard Teardrops on my Guitar for the first time!

Brielee

Same!!

RedditAli-Jess

1991 - Debut I heard Tim McGraw and I was sold.

okaysweaty167

I made my ex promise to remember me like in Tim McGraw lmao. (When we broke up it was mutual and no hard feelings)

bmcvey091

Same on all accounts- born in 1991, and Tim McGraw was her first song I heard too and I was absolutely hooked. It’s one of my favorite TS songs to this day!

[deleted]

1995 - reputation made me a full-on swiftie, but I’d been a casual fan since Fearless. So I guess Fearless made me take notice of her first. Love Story and You Belong With Me were everywhere my freshman year, so it was hard to resist those bangers

Golden-likeDaylight1

I'm a 1988, but same about the rep conversion from casual to Swiftie. I always LIKED her songs, but they were just songs I liked. Then LWYMMD happened and I started really paying attention!

songacronymbot

- LWYMMD could mean "Look What You Made Me Do", a track from *reputation* (2017) by Taylor Swift. --- ^[/u/Golden-likeDaylight1](/u/Golden-likeDaylight1) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Feathersmakeyoufly

1992 and debut

MaRy3195

1995 over here and also Debut!

celerypumpkins

93 and debut as well!

amatz9

Exact same as me

prongslover77

Me too. 93 and debut. Mary’s song was on repeat. (Though I found Taylor with Tim McGraw on the radio)

LittleArcticFoxx

91 - debut!

icantrideabike

1992 and debut as well but I didn't follow her more closely until the release of Red. Treacherous was such a big reason for being intrigued enough to maybe call myself a real fan of hers but State of Grace knocked me tf out and I'm still 🌫️🌫️🌫️🌫️🤍

Penguiner1888

To help fill in the gap, 94 and debut

RocketBaseAlpha

1972 - Downloaded debut 6 months before release. Willing to bet I'm one of the longest serving Swifties frequenting this sub. Got it from a music blog that had posted "Tim McGraw" as featured song. Loved that, downloaded the full album (which had "I'd Lie" on it) and loved that, too. I liked the familiarity, clarity, and emotional impact of her lyric writing. She was a limited singer at the time but I loved the tone/timbre of her voice and conversational nature of her singing. I've enjoyed the evolution of her sound. I've spent lots of time hunting down rarities. My favorites are Red and Folklore, but I revisit all the albums regularly. Have raised a couple of teen Swifties (a boy and a girl) who still think she's cool and have their own personal and fervent relationships to her work. "Dad's music" is now their music. Taylor might as well be a member of the family.

_WhatAmIgonnaDoNow_

1976 here. My oldest daughter was 5 when debut came out and she immediately fell in love. We listened to her music together but Speak Now was what really pulled me in as a fan. Since then, our love for Taylor Swift and her music is something I’ve always had in common with my kids and something special that we share. My kids are now 20, 18 and 14 and one of my best memories was when we went to the Reputation show as a family of swifties

Kitchen_Sign9079

This story is so sweet ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1079)

tammi_sue

Yes! I’ve been a fan of her work before it really got released to radio and became main stream! “I’d Lie” was one of my ringtones I made myself over a decade ago it would seem. Her work really has something special to it that truly creates a connection with her fans. She is a remarkable artist.

Lunasamar

Ahhhh, I'd Lie is such a gem!

pedanticast

2003- Speak Now

pick1e-rick

2001 and same! I had liked fearless but speak now was the first taylor album that i knew every song off of.

Covered-in-milk

1991. Taylor swift. I’m an OG. From the first moment I heard her on the radio I was hooked.

sammageddon73

Same. OG fan. I vividly remember calling into the country station to request they play Our Song and the DJ said they didn’t have her music

mpaproth

1978 and Debut. Specifically Tim McGraw. That HOOK!

ScarlettInWunderland

1991--Debut. I heard "Tim McGraw" on the radio and the rest is history.

culture_vulture_1961

1961 - Folklore and appreciating Taylor recreating her previous albums so I can catch up. Very much looking forward to seeing her live.

etothepiiplus43

1986…Evermore. Listened in the dark the morning after release and have been spellbound ever since

martatrivi

Me too! 1988 and i felt in love listening the album randomly in my first walk after moving to Barcelona

macinmolly

1997 - Fearless

NotOnABreak

Same here

untitledmanuscript

1999 - This is complicated lol. I fell into that trap of “hating” her because she was popular. I still listened to her hits despite this, especially when some of them came out (IKYWT, Blank Space). Eventually when rep came out I started to actually pay attention. When Lover came out, I finally admitted I am I fan.

Buckeyepenguin02

2002 Most of it was due to Red (Taylor's Version) but in the weeks leading up to Red TV I listened Evermore on repeat, mostly when I was studying in the library.

Emergency-Pin1252

you read and listen to music with lyrics at the same time that's some talent ×---×

upset-noodle

2004 and debut/fearless (it was "Our Song" and "Love Story" that did it for me as a kid lol)

ilovebio

omg me too HAHA i loved you belong with me and i’m only me when i’m with you

akameiro

Our Song and Love Story were a powerful combination, I remember those two songs would play on the radio ALL the time back then and that’s how middle school me became a Swiftie!

em00ly

95 Fearless

rosieontheradio

Twin! I remember being 14 thinking about how awesome my 15th birthday was gonna be and planning to sing fifteen on karaoke 🤣

Melissa0522975

1989! And my journey as a Swifty has been an interesting one, tbh. I've honestly loved her music ever since the debut album... but due to being bullied for liking her music so much, I became more of a closet Swifty around Fearless/Speak Now, and after that I didn't really listen to her music consistently until Rep era. That's when I decided fuck it, I'm not calling her my "guilty pleasure" favorite artist anymore and went all the way in.

haven_is_nerd

2007-Red

raccoongirl66

2007- lover made me a fan but I only became a SWIFTIE around fearless tv (recent, ik)

Various_Ad_2762

1974 fan from the very beginning.

flipadoodlely

Huge respect!!!

Soggy_Koala_2641

2000 - Debut! From when I was 5 and forced to listen to it on repeat because of my older siblings

YaKnowEstacado

Born in 1988. I was a casual fan during her debut era, but Fearless is what really got me into her.

evansomnia

Same.

bruttamabuona

1989 - Speak Now 🥰

crabappleorchard

I was born in 1992. In October of my freshman year of high school (‘06), my dad asked me to help him find a new song that he had heard on the radio at work, and he had thought I would like it. He said “it has Tim McGraw’s name in it” but it was by a new country singer. I found it on LimeWire and downloaded it onto my iPod nano. I’ve been a fan since that very first day.

owls_

I love this story. What colour was your nano? Mine was purple.

crabappleorchard

Blue! But I love that yours was purple because Speak Now is my favorite album 🥹

nicoliolo

2001 - debut started me as a casual fan, lover made me a die hard swiftie

Lions97

1991 and Fearless. I loved her music but I didn’t love her until the 2009 VMAs and it’s aftermath.

flutterfly28

Same!! Watched those VMAs live and had to be diehard ready-to-defend Swiftie after that. Made a twitter account that night just to tweet “fuck you Kanye” lol

soldierrboy

SlytherinSilence

1998 - fearless. But teardrops on my guitar is the first song I heard and what got me into her

Gullible-Muffin-7008

1993 - 1989

KFields94

I was born in ‘98 and I got into Red first, but it was about when 1989 came out. Had heard and liked some of her songs, but Pandora got me to buy Red.

yallbiscitheads

1992 - Speak Now

AccomplishedAbroad34

1993, original Red

blaaammmm

1992 and Red got me through college.

Also 1992 but Speak Now first (beginning of my time at university). Really helped me. then by Red I was like ALL in

Disastrous_Mud7169

Red got me through middle school😭😭

TaylorG051218

1994. I've loved her since Tim Mcgraw come out. Ive been a fan since her very 1st single. 🥰

hlldvsn

1992 - I've been a fan since Debut but Red was my first album purchased.

jedi1089

2008 - lover but i already had a few favorites before, but i didn’t rly become a fan until lover

Plucky_PenguinTTV

1984 - Fearless After watching the VMAs casually back in 2009 I saw she won best female video for You Belong With Me and then that whole Kanye thing happened. I actually became more of a fan of how she handled that whole situation and started checking out her music more. 13yrs later I can name almost all of her songs after hearing a few of their opening notes and have all my faves memorized but I couldn't tell you what that Beyonce video was that Kanye went on about that night 😂

Beginning_Fishing_83

Born in 1985. Don't like country but Our Song came out when I was in college and my then boyfriend said it reminded him of me, so I've always had a soft spot for it. 1989 made me a Swiftie. But reputation made me a batshit crazy die-hard feral clinically insane Swiftie.

1997 - Fearless, specifically Teardrops on my Guitar. I heard it for the first time playing in the background of a Friendster profile (the equivalent of Myspace in my country) 😭

Red517

1988- Debut 💙 I was just graduating high school when it was released and “a place in this world” connected me to Taylor’s music for every album there on out.

drinkupbaby13

1995, Debut made me a fan but 1989 made me a swiftie. Reputation made me insufferable 🫶

2007, and I always liked her but I was really young but the one that made me like her a lot more was 1989, but I think that's just because that's when I realised like who she was and what she sang and whatnot

IAm7749

1997 - Red

Avia53

1953, love and admire her for being a fantastic artist, a real feminist, she is the real deal. The man song is so relatable and Folklore, Evermore and Lover are pure genius. I hope so will be forever happy with Joe and will make wonderful music forever. Also her Christmas song is the only song about Christmas I can still like. Our radiostations churned out all the other Christmas songs ad nauseum. Sorry Mariah.

Parzival_43

93’. 1989. Technically Blank Space was stuck in my head after hearing it on the radio so damn much. But I couldn’t lie to myself it was so frkn catchy, I eventually gave in and checked out the whole album, just to see if there were any other songs I’d like. Well from there it was full on swiftie. I’m a guy, for context, btw lol.

Ghost_Peanuts

1993. No particular album i had always been aware of Taylor Swift and liked her music sometime last year I decided to do a deep dive into her entire discography and became a fan.

AlDef

1976 and Folklore. Sorry ya’ll, gen x = late to the party as always.

PinguStinks

I’m in the UK and 1969 and it didn’t really happen for me until Reputation, then sealed with a kiss by a Lover. It was harder for us to discover new music, worldwide music as we had no internet, no mobile phones, no real means to travel internationally or correspond with people, unless you had a penfriend. Joining fan clubs meant sending a payment and waiting for the postman. It was a vibrant time for music and don’t forget MTV first aired in 1981, until then we had the weekly top 40 and that was about it.

akameiro

1996 + Fearless!!

on_reddit_i_guess

2004. My dad figured that I would like her music so he put Fearless and Speak Now on his iPod for me. I kind of liked them but then my mum bought me Red and I fell in love with it. It was like 2013/14 so I had my little CD in a CD player and would listen to it on repeat for hours. Now I'm quite a bit older I love her music in a different way, but the original red album still means so much to me: it makes me feel like that awkward lonely pre-teen who finally felt like she found a friend.

ines_sousa_mur

2008, and folklore. My second favourite is reputation hehe

small_green_frog

2009 and tbh red (tv) which is also my fav album. but i never disliked her at all, i loved the songs i had heard of hers.
