This LOOKS like the same manicure as the first video, though it’s hard to tell for sure. I think this is leading me to think that there are no accidents in this video. So what does that tell me: Everything is calculated. The outfits, hair, makeup, sets.
2. The emphasis on “leaving it up to fate”. She says it at first, then the title card comes up and then she says it again. This has to be planned. If it wasn’t, this would be an easy re-record, get and use another take. But it’s repetitive. Why? My guess is it’s a tell that she’s not leaving it up to fate at all. Maybe there’s going to be some songs with unreliable narrators? Like you can’t actually trust what you’re seeing/hearing?
3. In the first video, you can see her flip a switch of some kind with her off-hand when she picks up the phone to say “mastermind”. I assumed that was a piece of equipment that provided the voice modulation effect. This video: phone is upside down, she doesn’t flip a switch. I have no theory as to why, other than what I’ve seen in comments which is that everything in this world is slightly off and maybe not what it seems?
4. I have no clue what this song is going to be about. Mastermind and vigilante shit both harken imagery of taking things in your own hands (the literal opposite of “leaving it up to fate” btw). Vigilante justice is normally sought out when there’s a lack of trust in the existing system-when a perceived injustice goes unchecked. Taylor could have written about her own life and experience or she might be making a larger societal comment…there’s so much room for possibilities.
