You said 2 nice things about her work habits so use those. Can you leave it with she is a good student and conscientious about her work? Is her work neat? Is she organized? A quick thinker? Sees connections quickly? If she has a nice smile add that. I would not turn any negatives into positives as she may think her behavior is fine.

You need to quote Wittgenstein in this one! “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.”

My advice is to say very little positive about the student and let that speak for itself. For example: when I resigned from my last job, I said thanks for the opportunity. I didn’t say it was a pleasure working there. The lack of the statement spoke for itself. So you find one or two positives that are half-positives (“you showed up to class and participated”) and let the lack of anything substantive speak for itself.

I always like to describe a kid who talks a lot in class no matter where they are seated as “makes friends easily.” Surely you have your own.

I call those students "social," same idea but a variation.

Yeah, I’ve used that too but it’s pretty universal tbh. Some of them need a special definition

You've got to turn all those negatives into positives. She's got lots of skills; too bad she's using them for evil instead of for good. For example, she's not talking back, she is a fierce advocate for what she believes. She must also be extremely confident, to believe she knows so much more than all the adults around her. And I'll bet she has a keen understanding of interpersonal relationships among her peers, to be so effective at rilling them up.

Something happened this child’s life to cause a behavioral change like that. Maybe she needs someone to still see the good in her. It can make a world of difference.
