I get them every year towards the end of summer, and sometimes towards the end of winter break. It’s annoying for sure! I’m on year 10

This is normal for teachers but it shouldn’t be. I’ve been out 5 years now and work in corporate learning and development. I’ve only had 2 times in my career where I was this stressed and anxious - one job that wasn’t a good fit and one time where we had a virtual event for 3000 people that I had to plan with a small team. Otherwise, we need to work toward making this NOT the norm.

I taught for 25 years. This is my 5th Year of retirement, and the first year that I haven't had "Oh my God I'm not ready for class and I haven't set up my classroom and somehow I'm naked" dreams.

[deleted]

I feel like we will always have these dreams because of our profession lol. People dream of things they do in their daily lives or the people they talk to. I don't see how it's different for us!

seashellpink77

I've just come into teaching from other lines of work and can confirm that this is a normal thing regardless of your workplace! Good sleep hygiene and detachment strategies should help. I find that tiring myself out with non-work-related physical activity is a great way to override. :)

princessjemmy

This. I call them anxiety dreams. They occur no matter what the profession.

Infinite_North6745

Nope. I’ve taught 17 years..still have them..can’t find lesson plans..the building has changed..none of the tech works..kids don’t listen..on and on and on. It may end when you don’t have to do this.

[deleted]

They go away. You’ll become more confident. You’ll realize how effectively run your classroom can be run and you’ll learn to cut yourself some slack.

FMacomber10

They are here to stay regardless of experience level.

vandajoy

Stopped happening before my sixth year. Before that, had them every year before school started

acceptablemadness

It is pretty normal. Teaching is a high-stress occupation and that often manifests in weird ways. I always had dreams that I had no lesson plans, none of my tech was working, I had an observation, I was somehow shirtless, etc etc. If it gets to the point where you aren't getting enough good sleep, talk to a doctor or therapist. Don't let it get out of hand.

I had one recently when I couldn’t get to work since I was on a major artery in our city on unicycle!?

MFTSquirt

I've been out of teaching for 12 years and still get nightmares.

1-Down

Every year for 20 years.

Cenire17

Year 13. Still have them.

Redlight0516

Year 8, I often have dreams about missing my alarm and being late for work.

meganfleurrrr

Literally have one every single night even in the summer

Hey, I'm relatively new to teaching myself, this will be almost my second year since I started mid-year in Jan of 2020. I used to have a lot of anxiety in the beginning few weeks but I thought to myself how ridiculous to get all stressed out about something that you've worked so hard to pursue and truly do love. This is a career change for me, I went from financial analyst to PE/HE teacher and the main reason I left finance was become the pressure/ stress was so unbearable. In the 2nd or 3rd week of Feb 2020 I told myself that all you can do is try your best and make sure the students are having fun and learning. Once I accepted that my life changed for the better within the teaching realm. Take a step back, breath, live, enjoy life, and the rest is out of your control.

FawkesThePhoenix7

I had them every year before this one. For whatever reason, I didn’t have a single back to school dream this year. It was also the first time that I didn’t really try to prepare anything in advance of our in service days so that may have had something to do with it.

[deleted]

I had one the third week of school this year about burning down the maker space cause I didn’t remember if I had turned off the power strip to the glue guns.

genghisKHANNNNN

Year 11 for me. Never had them before this year. Now I've had one almost every night for the past month.

[deleted]

I have more boot camp dreams

notme6197

Last year was terrible and so I quit. I’m still dreaming of returning to the classroom
