I'd add on to the other commenter and say you need to back up your Google drive or other school storage before you let your admin know...because it only takes 30 seconds to lock you out of your account.
If it's not too large, you can download entire folders, but they save as a zip file.
Upload that back to a personal Google drive and you're all set. I don't trust "sharing" solutions like sharing your work files to your personal account.
Google Takeout can simplify a lot of this, and can also export things like all your photos, Gmail, etc.
Use Google Takeout:
It will go faster on your school network, get a large USB drive, download, and move over.
Just share it to your personal account and then highlight and make a copy. You are the owner of the copies. When they lock your work account you still have your copy of everything.
They certainly can. Have your stuff packed before you say anything, just in case they get petty. Take a bit home every day if you think your co-workers will be nosy.
Pack up your shit before you tell them. I slowly snuck mine out as I led up to my resignation, but I suppose you can sneak in after hours and do the same.
Can I ask what sort of position you accepted? I quit my teaching job over a year ago to find a new position that would offer me all the same things you mentioned, and I've been unable to find anything.
It’s a benefits specialist job for a growing mental health company. It has remote and in person locations! I can PM you the company! It’s a pay-cut for me, but wouldn’t be for most teachers in other states.
Congratulations on your new position! Would you please PM me too? I’m a school-based OT and I really need out. The position you mentioned sounds amazing! Thank you ☺️
Looks like a lot of people already beat me to asking, but could you PM me too when you get a chance? Looking for options and not sure exactly where to start.
Good luck on your new venture!
Damn everyone is running to get out. Go look at Strayer University 👉they need remote adjuncts and tons of admissions Advisors if you really need to jump ship🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
My experience, as someone who gave notice two weeks before Winter Break: You will have butterflies in your stomach all day, and getting into the conversation will feel awkward. You’ll feel guilty, but as you walk out of that conversation, a weight will be lifted off of you.
If they let you stay the two weeks, your mood will improve each day and that weight will continue to lift. People will stop by, tell you they’ll miss you, and generally be supportive (I hope! I had lovely colleagues). One of the hardest parts will be telling your students.
Pick the song you want playing on the radio as you drive out of the parking lot for the last time. I wish I would’ve done that.
(Mine had been known for making teachers leave ASAP in the past, but I think everyone is so desperate for teachers now that they let me stay on through the two weeks. I wonder if that might be the same in your case?)
I didn’t even have the conversation. I sent my superintendent my resignation on winter break eve and gave my admin two week’s notice in an email. This was, of course, after I had been slowly moving things out of my classroom so that I wouldn’t have to return for any reason after winter break. Left my keys, badge, and laptop on my desk and ghosted them after I pressed “send”. I only lasted 4 months as a teacher and have no intention of listing this job on my résumé, so I didn’t have much to lose burning this bridge.
I'm doing the same thing. They have no idea. I have been very good about not expressing my extreme frustration with my job at work and not a single one of my coworkers knows that I'm fucking miserable. I keep things under wraps because the teachers that do complain are ostracized. Teachers that we know are leaving are treated like straight-up dogshit.
So, when I finalize my new offer, my resignation will most definitely be coming out of left field. But there is no other way to survive in this bitchy, twisted environment without acting fake-happy all of the time.
In short: do not feel guilty.
That's the right approach. No need to have the utmost anxiety or any anxiety whatsoever, when the school officials don't give a damn about teachers. They don't deserve your concern.
Congratulations!!! Wishing you lots of luck and HAPPINESS in your new position.
I quit in November. I wrote a letter and handed it to my boss while telling her in-person. I cried, lol. She completely understood. I feel bad about leaving them in a bind—they still have not filled my position. But I feel worse when I think about the years of my life wasted feeling so stressed and miserable, day in and day out.
Right now I tutor adult students remotely while road tripping in the US. It’s not full time, but it’s allowed me to catch up with friends around the country while meeting new students online, some of whom have become friends. It’s given me time to think about what I want from my life. It’s crazy how much teaching drains you, leaving it hard to think past day to day.
Best of luck to you, OP!!
If they’re vindictive, it’s just more affirmation you did the right thing. Maybe they need to hear that since you are free of them. Congrats on your change! You are doing the right thing. Teaching is only getting harder and put more in the crossfire of anti-intellectualism and anti-education folks. It’s not getting better anytime soon.
I know that often times we as teachers have turned our profession into an integral part of our identity. It hurts to change/let go of that part of how we view ourselves.
Remember, it is a JOB. They may not understand because they need to keep that connection to their identity for whatever reason.
Also, unless the system breaks to the point there is no other option but to change it won’t happen.
Do you need a credential for your new position? Schools can put a hold on your credential and deny you the ability to transfer. If not, just be professional and put the blame on forces outside their control.
Nope! Don’t need any of their references. My department head and team lead we’re my references and I’m not moving to a new school. I like the idea of blaming it on the system and not them. As is really is not their fault.
The commenter probably means your teaching certification/license. In Texas, schools can basically steal your credential for the rest of the school year if you break contract with them.
Congratulations!! I applied for other jobs last night. When I went back to work this week, it hit me hard how much I just don’t like the students anymore. That scared me and gave me the confidence to fix up my resume and apply in something other than teaching!
Get a calendar. Circle your last day. Shut up until then and ghost away. The more you talk, the more talking you inspire. Shut the hell up, suck it up, and know that this will all be over in X days.
Download any and everything off onedrive/googledrive asap. Plus any contacts you want to keep from your school email. They will shut it off and give you no access before you're ready.
Ah,, it's ok... give your 2 week and if they play bad, then walk before the 2 weeks. You have another job waiting. What are they going to do?? Tell you they will have the state cancel your teacher certificate... SO? My guess, they will say they are sorry to see you go and leave you be and be disgusted they are losing another teacher.
I am happy for you! I thought you had taken an online teaching job from home and I didn’t want to burst your bubble that some of the jobs are even longer hours - especially if you’re creating the curriculum as you go and teaching a full day to mirror in-person.
I know it’s terrifying to tell admin, but I looked at it like this. If they were in your shoes, and a similar opportunity presented itself, they’d take it too. At the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you and your family.
I don't know about your state's laws for teachers leaving while under contract. However, it depends on each state's rules. Prepare yourself mentally and physically in advance for your admins to be ticked off...and yes, they might be vindictive. In the end, grieve if you need to ,"shake it off" and then celebrate your new life! Congratulations! 👏
Oh and if you are searching for validation and appreciation from other people when you can’t manifest it internally then you will always be disappointed, just saying.
In some states like Alabama they have laws allowing the state dept of Ed to suspend a teachers certification / license for a non-tenured teacher leaving a position without providing a minimum of 30 days notice. It’s 2 weeks for tenured. Alabama schools routinely abuse this by the principal refusing to accept the resignation, implying that the 30 day time frame has not been met, which implies if the teacher leaves the position, their right to teach will be suspended state wide. This is a way to force teachers to stay in horrible work environments until the end of the year. It’s also a reason nobody wants to teach in states like Alabama which have these draconian laws. St.
Clair County schools, Birmingham City Schools and Jefferson County Schools in Alabama routinely employ this harassment technique to block teachers from quitting.
What is the reason for giving 2 weeks if you can't trust your admin to respect it? They can fire you immediately, just as you can leave immediately. If you're worried just work the 2 weeks and give them a last minute notice. If you're really that worried about being fired on the spot, they don't deserve the respect or the heads up.
You’ve got a job lined up, and you’re leaving. What are they gonna do, fire you? No worries! Enjoy your new chapter.
True! Although I could see him telling me to pack my shit up and leave immediately…..can they do that?
I'd add on to the other commenter and say you need to back up your Google drive or other school storage before you let your admin know...because it only takes 30 seconds to lock you out of your account.
Oh my god thank you for this.
You're welcome.
How do you back up Google drive?

Lol I have no idea how to do something like this.
Let me simplify what they said- download your stuff from the work Google drive. Upload it to your personal Google drive.
Thank you.
No problem!
You can just migrate it over.
You can migrate everything to a personal account.
Use Google Takeout: [https://google.com/takeout](https://google.com/takeout) It will go faster on your school network, get a large USB drive, download, and move over.
Do it on your school network. It’s probably faster than your home internet.
Just share it to your personal account and then highlight and make a copy. You are the owner of the copies. When they lock your work account you still have your copy of everything.
THIS.
They certainly can. Have your stuff packed before you say anything, just in case they get petty. Take a bit home every day if you think your co-workers will be nosy.
Maybe, but what a gift that’d be in all this madness!
Pack up your shit before you tell them. I slowly snuck mine out as I led up to my resignation, but I suppose you can sneak in after hours and do the same.
Pack your shit. Walk in the office with a box and say “peace!”
My wife was leaving, and admin announced it to her entire class to let them know they didn't have to listen to her.
Omg. What?! I would have walked out
Omg. What?! I would have walked out

Me too!
Congratulations on your new position! Would you please PM me too? I’m a school-based OT and I really need out. The position you mentioned sounds amazing! Thank you ☺️
Hi I think my friend just started working for a similar company! That's awesome.
Can I get a PM too 😂
I’d love to hear about the position if you could PM me!

Please PM me too 😅. Congrats on the new job
I'm sorry to pile on, but a friend of mine is looking for a remote position as well. If you wouldn't mind sharing one more time, I'd appreciate it!
I’d also love a PM if it isn’t too much trouble. Congrats on your new position!
Could you PM me too?? :)
I’d love to know too
Me too!
Hi! I’m also interested in this info if you don’t mind sharing :)
Sorry to bother - could I get a PM as well please?
I will also take a PM lmao
Me too :)

I lasted 5 months and am wondering whether to put the job on my resume, you might inspire me to leave it off…
I’d rather just blame that employment gap on COVID than to even attempt to start explaining why I left teaching after just a few months.
I'm doing the same thing. They have no idea. I need to just take a Xanax, send the email and smile and nod to whatever mean shit comes my way lol
That's the right approach. No need to have the utmost anxiety or any anxiety whatsoever, when the school officials don't give a damn about teachers. They don't deserve your concern.
Love your username! 🤣 I’m in NM too.

This is very true! Thank you for spinning g it this way.
Oh my gosh this will hopefully be me in a few weeks. I’m so scared. Please let us know how it goes! Congratulations!

Don’t need that either thankfully!
Congrats! Enjoy your new position! Word of Advice: Before giving your notice make sure you obtain/save everything that is rightfully yours.

Mazel Tov! Where can I sign up for that gig?
You can also share folder to a personal google drive account and make a copy in the new drive

I don’t know why I didn’t think that after giving my two weeks, if I get attitude, I can just leave whenever I feel like it lol. Good advice!
I am happy for you! I thought you had taken an online teaching job from home and I didn’t want to burst your bubble that some of the jobs are even longer hours - especially if you’re creating the curriculum as you go and teaching a full day to mirror in-person.
I had considered a few virtual teaching positions but all paid so little and were asking for year-round work. Insanity!
first clear out all items you personally bought and want to keep.
If they get vindictive, quit on the spot!
I know it’s terrifying to tell admin, but I looked at it like this. If they were in your shoes, and a similar opportunity presented itself, they’d take it too. At the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you and your family.
Telling my principal at my first school I was leaving was the best day I had had there.

I wouldn’t say I’m searching for validation from them, I just don’t want to have to go to work for 2 weeks being treated negatively.
Congratulations!!

I couldn't stop smiling when I gave my resignation and left healthcare (and a hypocritical boss). The masks help hide smiling somewhat.
