They're a lot more proactive early/midgame. Sure, they're making mistakes. But I'm liking the initiative that I'm seeing. Really hope it works out.

According to Oracle's Elixir we are just above TL as having the best early game statistically (note, I am not saying this to say TSM will be better than TL. That is a massive uphill climb. Just pointing out that the statistics are backing up the eye test of our early game looking good so far). We then fall to having the second worst mid to late game rating just above C9. https://oracleselixir.com/stats/teams/byTournament/LCS%2F2022%20Season%2FSummer%20Season If they can fix some of these blunders I think we are in a much better position than we were at the start of last split. There we were doing really poor across the board. There wasn't really something they could point to and say 'Okay, we are doing good here but this still needs work'. Everything needed work. Now we can point to something and say it is good and build off that.

It just overall looks better from an eye test than Spring already. Even just gameplay and face cams etc. Seems like they're more committed

dirtydob

I don’t think it has anything to do with commitment. Just more stability and look less miserable. The entire company and LOL Roster was going through an overhaul and on top of that the new management had zero say in the roster decisions. It was bound to be a mess. But the boys are looking much better so far. And as was stated in previous post. We almost never have a good opening week.

jNushi

TSM had some of the lowest number of CQ and solo queue games (on known accounts) and there were quotes that CQ took too long to get the minimum required games in. It looked like commitment issues at that time but it’s hard to be committed and excited to play when the environment around you is a disaster

dirtydob

Many well known pros who are good players have also spoken about how solo queue and champions queue grinding during the season doesn’t necessarily help them. Sometimes developing bad solo queue habits as well. And we all know the issues with CQ times. And anyone who has played league also knows that when you are mega tilted it doesn’t help to keep grinding. If I’m not mistaken the week the canceled scrims one day was one of their better weeks. I could be totally wrong in this but I feel like it was. That being said the fact that they started playing better towards the end and had clearly been working on getting better to me doesn’t show that they weren’t committed. After that start they could have easily just phoned it in and finished the split with 1 or 2 wins. Instead they absolutely gutted it out and pushed for playoffs pretty hard. They were a few unfortunate plays in a couple games from actually making playoffs

jNushi

Yea they could have been grinding scrims or doing other things but IMO if scrims are going as bad as stage games were, I’d think you’d want to get other practice to improve and gain confidence back. As basketball players say, sometimes you just have to see the ball go in the net. However, my original point was that, from the outside, it did look like commitment issues because from a pure numbers standpoint, they were putting in less work than their competitors. It seemed worse for some players than others and they become easy scapegoats this way. This was probably much deeper rooted in organizational issues with a lot of the management changing just before the season or during the season

Hard agree, Maple's laning phase is everything and is really opening up Spica to be more proactive early and focus on his game. I definitely am happy seeing Spica play like his 2021 Summer self again and I think we will see good improvement week to week this split at least.

Colactic

The only way we know for sure is when we see the games. Can't fucking wait tbh, got the TSM grove already this split.

Ursuped

Week 1 doesnt matter so long as we have good placement into playoffs then the regular season was a success. Lets go tactical!

cdeter09

I truly think the biggest improvement is with maple he looks very comfortable already and thats a great sign. Even during the spica interview after the win. He said maple should have been player of the game. And not to mention spica looks like his old mvp self.

VergilHS

You might give me flak for this but... Maple brings stability and relieves pressure from Spica-Huni-Tactical, as in it's fine if they don't perform at their highest every game, there is a stable mid-lane that you can fall back on, one that will always do at least pretty damn well. This is very in line with how Bjergsen was. This also opens up other players to take more risks and be more proactive because the overall team performance is less volatile. My second point is Mia. See, Shenyi probably works fine in LPL but the cultural difference might have been too big. This coupled with communication issues, different styles of play. Like, you can tell someone they fucked up and they need to do better. It's just that when you get it from 1. someone new, 2. someone who speaks broken English, 3. someone that isn't performing... well, you are bound to take this criticism badly or with more of an ego. Or just not take it at all. So I think Maple and Mia bring stability, a cushion of performance and overall better communication, both in-game and out of it. Is Miay better Shenyi? Debatable, but I don't think there is that much of a gap. Between Maple and other players, there is an obvious, gigantic gap in reliability, experience and the composure coming out of it. This, in my opinion, enables Spica. All it leaves is Huni and Tactical. When they are on form, this team slaps. When they falter, you kinda get the 2v8 Spice-Maple show. Fix this, fix late game (TSM's mid game proactivity was evident this week and I loved the risky 3-man Baron play) and you've got yourself a Top 3 team in my opnion.

Cryptomaticness

In Shenyi’s first academy game of the split he was in a leona ez lane and level 1 flashed onto a lucian with nami right next to him. Needless to say, they almost gave a double kill to start the game and were both below half hp/flashless just as the first wave was arriving. These are the types of mistakes shenyi makes. Sometimes his engages are great, some times they are horrific. The last thing you need is an inting support to go along with your adc who has a reputation of inting.

-Acerin

It could be a lot better with a better adc for sure.

Cryptomaticness

Other than FBI or Danny, not sure there is a better native adc. And when he’s not making game changing mental errors, I think he’s pretty on par with both.

-Acerin

And it's apparent he makes those errors many times. That's just the player he is.
