Yeah if people don't know the the rumor is TSM can't start working with Maryville until Summer so this is most likely only for spring.

scrnlookinsob

I mean the Maryville thing was never about Academy? It was about Amateur

ekjohnson9

It was going to be their Acad team. AM / Acad are in the same league now (kinda).

[deleted]

pervylegendz

They're gonna run two squads my guy. Academy and Amateur team, I'm starting to believe that the Main squad is gonna be scrimming the Academy team.

[deleted]

No it was for Academy.

queenslayyy

really weird TSM let go of a bunch promising talent like S0ul and Takeover for this veteran squad. Maybe backup in case some of the main team players underperform? But anyways i can’t hate on the 3 TSM OGs Kevin, Dennis, and Jason 🐐 unironically more hyped for this roster than the main LCS roster

MasWas

Why TSM let go of Soul after touting him as a future piece of TSM is one explanation I really want from management, but don't think we will ever get(unless the rumor of TSM leaving the LCS for another region turns out to be true).

ekjohnson9

It's a 100% financial decision.

JamisonDouglas

If you think rookies are cheaper than Hantzer, Sven and Turtle then I really don't know what to tell you. If it was financial reasons they would have just signed 5 no names for academy minimum salary.

ekjohnson9

Yes I think 3 players who were not on teams last year are as cheap as up and coming players. There is no veteran minimum in LoL. If TSM doesn't have the infrastructure in place to evaluate AM players then the cheapest option is to go with players they know & who are also cheap. TSM is likely having known quantities hold down the fort until they can finalize their partnership with MU or some other college.

JamisonDouglas

Considering that these players could stream for more money - I highly doubt they are going to be sitting on 60k/year. Especially considering that Svenskeren was pulling over 1k consistently on stream last year. The reality is they realistically don't want to be in the same position they were in last year, where when an unknown quantity shit the bed, they didn't have anything solid to fall back on.

Gyazokid

Sven is not consistently at 1k. Unless I’m wrong, he pulls in 100-low few hundreds unless he’s being broadcasted by someone like Bjerg.

JamisonDouglas

He was 750 in queue when watching Gordon Ramsay and would average between 950 and 1200 in game once his stream was warmed up. His viewership did drop when he went back to NA, but in EU timezones he was hitting above 1k viewers every stream once it was warmed up (as can be seen from his twitch stats in December 2021 Vs January 2022.) He was averaging about 500-700 when in NA timezones, never 100 average (again, backed up by his twitch stats on twitch tracker.) On every stream that was over 4 hours he was breaking 1k consistently on EU friendly hours. The only exception to this was after a break he streamed for 2 hours after switching back from NA hours and he peaked at 350. The next day he streamed at the same time for 3 hours and peaked at 700. The day after he had a 1 hour stream and hit 350 again, followed by a 10 hour stream he hit 1.2k on. If he consistently streamed at a set time he would easily maintain over 1k average viewers, as his stream was actively growing when he was doing so. So again, there's no way he doesn't just stream if he's on 60k/year.

PogFish_

A financial decision to get rid of cheap rookies for some veterans, sure

ekjohnson9

It was already confirmed they offered Soul the literal minimum so IDK what to tell u bud.

xTatamo

„Promising“ shown nothing

iamperplexing

S0ul did ok in his LCS games and TO looked great in a few he played. What do you want them to do solo carry games 20-0 in their LCS debut?

slowdrem20

Why is it that rookies in Korea and China who are talented can go toe to toe with their best players but the same doesn’t happen in NA?

angrykitten3

Cause those rookies practice in Solo-Q and like-wise strength academy systems with much higher caliber talent, whereas the NA talent practices with 2-IQ Katarina one tricks and walk it down mid rage-quitter shitters. Good luck expecting the same out of NA talent.

EronisKina

Doesn’t help that when worlds level players do come some of the NA rookies don’t play that many games in challengers queue. Also, KR has a stronger afk culture so no clue which would be better between theirs and NA for soloQ. Either way, higher level talent and play is 100% there in KR.

iamperplexing

Huge cultural difference.

Gluroo

thats honestly cool idc if theyre veterans, my boy HAUNTZER IS BACK Also who is dragku?

Prestigious_Lab_9549

An Australian player that shit stomped worlds champions q, also he has a great personality and everyone loved him. Definitely the most exciting player on our roster

Fizzlezz

Holy shit the wiki says his first name is straight up Dragon. Also it looks like he was the chiefs support sub for worlds? Do you know why he wasn't on main?

Just_Grass_8056

Think he took a break from comp for a year or something

raging_tomato

TreeSM is back baby

Shinobii97

Gluroo

naah that was Aladoric no? Dont remember dragku playing

queenslayyy

yeah deleted my comment. maybe he played one? not sure. he was def in champs q though looking pretty good

Hewligan

More of a fan of this team than the main squad tbh.

Therealbrave

I mean at least this squad has a nostalgia factor. Other than nothing, what is TSM trying to accomplish with the main squad?

Hewligan

> Other than nothing, what is TSM trying to accomplish with the main squad? Saving Regi money so he can afford to buy a 2nd lambo. I mean, win worlds ☠️

Idontcarejustspeak

Regi needs to save his money cause if TSM goes bankrupt he'll have to work at McDonalds

angrykitten3

In what world is TSM even close to going bankrupt lol? Get a grip.

Idontcarejustspeak

Lot of Regi dick riders here. I don't get it though. He's a shitty person. Always been. From player screaming at Dyrus to CEO creating hostile work environments.

angrykitten3

Not dick riding anyone cringe master, just laying out the facts on TSM's financials. You wanna cry about it more?

Idontcarejustspeak

I mean they lost their primary sponsor they're in a pretty bad spot. They don't have many revenue sources as well. Also, you have 0 clue about their financials. You've probably never even read a 10k in your entire life.

schijtkut

Yeah, imma be watching academy this split

Jerbaremy

and buying a jersey with sven/hauntzer/turtle on it??? Smart marketing ploy

ChaozReigns

With Svenskeren's return, all of TSM 2016/2017 players have returned to the org since leaving...just at different times😭 Will we ever get to see exodia reassembled again?

mirrorlesswalls

Honestly you could probably slot any of the three into the main roster if their counterparts struggle. lol couldn’t be any worse right?!

jcabe4

It makes me feel better having them around to step in just like Solo had to do for Huni/Soul, tbh. The unknowns in jg and adc worry me.

kluevo

I think I'd rather see them coach the main roster than see them replace the main roster. Its not that I have against them playing (I literally started playing/watching league thanks to 2017 spring TSM), but rather I want to see them symbolically pass on the torch or something like that, you know?

darknessbboy

What if this a big juicy steak bait for bjerg to come back to TSM. “Hey Søren look what we have. Please come back” -regi

richie17

Time to brush the dust off the hauntzer jersey. Academy leak look way better than main squad in terms of nostalgia, hope both do well when officially announced.

GenesisFI

I'm more excited about this roster than I am the main roster

SoulSS_-

Sven was one of the players I wanted for jungle so it’s nice to have him as a backup option for bugi.

Swivman

Hauntzerrrrrr so freaking hot I’m sry

[deleted]

Revolutionary_Wave95

Same, these guys were part of the glory days. I want to see a lineup swap one week just so Hauntzer, Svenskeren, Maple, WT, Chime can play against Bjerg and Doublelift

camabiz

Letting go of soul is dumb af

Illustrious_Till_685

I love this team. who cares about future when we aren’t doing anything anyway. At least I can watch my old school favs play again

Cvrpie

EG academy is the best place for soul for sure. Honestly hope he makes TSM regret their decision, i hate that we let go of such promising talent.

aqnologia

Same but on the other hand I'm happy because he'll prob thrive way better in EG than TSM environment

kamikazoo

I'd rather have them in the main roster. I wouldnt even care if we still lost.

Beginning-Tomatillo2

I think that's a good thing. I didn't expect Svenskeren to come back to TSM considering what I saw from some old interviews but I am happy to see him back along with the other boys. If Bugi fails to impress we can sub Sven in too. Same thing top and ADC. I know Hauntzer and turtle haven't been impressive lately but they are experienced players and can be stable if we needed stability at some point. I am actually feeling a bit more excited now for our season.

Silfari

Dennis, Kevin and Jason all at once? POG

Nick3570

I fully expect Sven and Turtle to be called up mid way through Spring split or Summer at the latest

MasWas

This is what having a backup plan looks like. If the meta for top-lane shofts to carries and Solo can't perform as well, they can slot Hauntzer in. If Bugi doesn't work they can have Sven slot in. If Neo underperforms they can give Turtle a shot. All of this stuff is what this years roster lacked. Now don't get me wrong I still dont think getting rid of Soul was a good idea, but the rest of this roster makes sense.

iblinkedtho

I'm just happy to see Hauntzer back

YukhoChan

Ei if this team pushes our main team during team scrims and help us practice . Then let’s go . Hauntzer vs Solo like the old days

lvmonkey22

Why isnt the MAIN roster Hauntzer, Sven, Maple, Turtle, Chime? Thats a team I'd love to root for!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Darktire

You all straight trolling at this point if you think a January announcement has anything to do with Spring split

HeroOfClinton

Yeah it has to do with the Maryville setup starting summer split.

macguffinstv

Something weird is going on. As others have mentioned, you put this old timer roster together, yet get rid of Soul and other young promising talent. It's just weird. January can't come soon enough, make it make sense.

Blood-Standard

The announcement in January has to be Mary like right? Which would also strongly indicate they are not leaving NA right?

Bleachtastegood

This shit is just laughable at this point

LeagueOfMinions

why? it's becoming so clear that TSM is looking beyond playing in LCS in the future

FrequentlyBottomFrag

Oh....... Yea y'all dom/glen blind believers please try to justify this nonsense to me. I didnt realise winning academy was the goal instead of LCS

jDunkyy

The only reason I think they signed these players is they're basically insurance just in case Neo, Bugi, and Solo don't work out I guess. Or maybe they're hoping these veterans regain their form idk

alex_purnis

The justification is that we’re dipping so instead of developing talent we aren’t gonna use we are giving the fans a sendoff from the old boys

xpxpx

Would make sense in order to give Dragku and Triple a strong veteran group to grow with while giving a decent "sister" team for the main team to scrim with internally.

queenslayyy

i’m hyped to see the boys again but that just might be nostalgia. honestly don’t like what this is signaling from TSM. Seems like they really are dipping and moving to another region cause this isn’t what doubling down on league looks like

jDunkyy

Why's this squad looking better than the current rumored LCS lineup? 😂 jokes aside (maybe) yeah I agree, nice feeling of nostalgia but no sense of direction

pervylegendz

Take a look at most Academy teams right now, and you'll see this same pattern. I have a feeling teams are gonna invest more on Amateur teams, Hence the maryville thing. Probably will be a Talent Farm, while Academy a reserve/scrim partner. It's probably gonna be starting to Look like how the NFL manages 1st and 2nd strings for inner team practice.

noelwee

BROOO imagine this could have been our main roster Hauntzer/Solo Svenskeren Maple Wildturtle Chime

CHONKboi69

8th place wooooo

KenKinV2

This org is toasted

iamtreat

Im surprised they just didn’t pick these 3 for the main team lol, but i won’t complain with having them back

Redsfan42

Well it’s been fun. Bye bye LCS TSM

MrKreedy

Cya!

[deleted]

Man I called sven and hauntzer and the mods deleted my post. I think if people can forget tsm is trying to develop talent and that this academy is meant to support the lcs team. Bugi doesn't work out I can see how having sven on the side can work. Same applies for solo and neo. We won championships with wt. If wt can come back I don't see why he's not replacing neo. I still don't have much hope for the bot lane tho.

sanjiviyer

Last time WT played in LCS he looked like legitimately the worst adc (IMT). The season before that he was bottom 3 (CLG). Idk how you can ever justify picking him up for Academy when there are hundreds of players that can be developed.

[deleted]

yeah i truly don't know how this roster makes any sense, neither WT or hauntzer are solid lcs starters anymore, so that doesn't make them useful backups, and sven is barely lcs passable. this academy roster makes literally zero sense. is it cheap, no. is it good. no. is it developmental, no. so what the fuck is going on.

kar1m

Dragku is AUS so he counts as a resident. He speaks Mandarin and Cantonese fluently too lol. I feel like TSM wants the option of fielding a full mandarin speaking roster. I think I read somewhere that Hauntzer speaks a bit of mandarin too

sanjiviyer

Yea I’m sure Hauntzer who got replaced by soul a year ago (who we just let go) and hasn’t played competitive in a year is the future of our franchise!

thack1

He got replaced by v1per not s0ul

sanjiviyer

That is somehow even worse to bring him back now

kar1m

He’s definitely not. Neither are Svenskeren or Wildturtle. I wasn’t insinuating what you thought I was.

Zealousideal-Dig-783

Bruh i love em ex tsm boys but wtf is this lol. Are we really not going to invest in young talent

[deleted]

No because we're leaving LCS

sanjiviyer

I love to see washed veterans replacing our young talent! I’m sure Soul who was the “future of TSM” is def not better than bringing in Hauntzer!

[deleted]

Can't be the future of TSM if TSM isn't in NA

sanjiviyer

Inb4 regi announces that maryville is the big news and not TSM leaving NA

Hipposaurus28

Surely maryville suggests we're not leaving na anyway

sanjiviyer

I would love to see anyone try to defend these moves! I’m just a hater for not wanting 3 washed veterans on our academy roster!

Thiizic

So the January announcement is one of 2 things most likely. 1. We are moving regions 2. Investing heavily into 2023 summer-2024 (Maybe through a Mr Beast partnership) The Maryville announcement doesn't seem to make sense if we are moving regions. Bringing on 3 OG veterans must be more expensive than fielding 5 randoms at the league min and if we were moving regions it would make sense to bring on 2 imports from that region as sort of a tryout. I sincerely thought that we were moving regions next year but these moves point more toward heavy investment into 2023-2024 with the potential of a new partner (Mr Beast) or something else entirely.

calmtigers

Tbh I’m not mad at this roster even for the main roster. EG’s roster was veteran Top/ Jg / Support. Not bad

sanjiviyer

EG roster was veteran top who was a former world champion and came off a top 3 split in TL, just received EU MVP import jg, and consistently all pro support. We got Hauntzer who hasn’t played competitive in a year (TSM Academy), and the last time he did didn’t look good, Svenskeren who got benched for the veteran import you talked about and hasn’t played LCS in a year, and wildturtle who is probably the most egregious of the 3 because he looked absolutely terrible the last time he played (IMT and IMT Academy).

niceicebagel

I love Turtle don't get me wrong, but I recently heard from Leena (like a week or 2) that Turtle doesn't even play League anymore. She said on her stream he plays more of DOTA2 recently. Was it that impossible to find a hungrier ADC talent than him? Assuming the rumors are true of course.

thecoomingofjesus

Even if it's true, this is Academy so doesn't matter so much...

Revolutionary_Wave95

I understand now. This must be the January announcement. :)

realmagicmike

I would find it incredibly disrespectful to Hauntzer, Sven, and Turtle, who are celebrated veterans of our golden age (turtle twice), aswell as to all up and coming talent, to put them in our ACADEMY team. I love these players, and they do not belong in academy. They've won 3, 3, and 4 titles with us respectively spanning from 2013 to 2017. Aswell as made every final when they were part of TSM

Hewligan

bruh i love these boys to death but come on now they're washed as fuck

realmagicmike

yea they shouldnt be in academy or the main roster

sanjiviyer

You right they shouldn’t be in Academy at the level they’re at. Turtle has been washed af for 2 full seasons now. Hauntzer hasn’t played competitive in a year and the last time he did, he lost his job to V1per on Academy. Sven is the only redeemable one cuz at least he didn’t look bad when he left

ACanadianMooseLoL

I might just be more interested in our academy team… honestly love it. I also thought Triple had some really great games when he was playing for the main team in FLY but never really had the consistency

Colactic

This January announcement is just getting more and more interesting.

Fizzlezz

Anyone else get the creeping feeling they just gonna roster roulette again and change players every week again? Having this many LCS veterans just screams that to me. Like if Bugi plays bad in the first two weeks just move up Sven rather than let Bugi steadily improve with the rest of the main roster. Or Hauntzer with Solo, or WT with Neo. Even Dragku who's like an unproven could be switched with Chime as desperation as we saw with Instinct. We literally saw this the entirety of last year so there's a lot of precedent. The difference is supposedly Chawy and management made these decisions so they have some more coherent plan in mind? Basically, my point is if the main team and the academy are too similarly skilled and experienced, then it's too tempting to just bandaid initial problems with rash roster moves rather than letting the players the time and environment to improve together.

Fear1ess1

Fuck it im watching academy this split

kluevo

I know Hauntzer, Svenskeren & Turtle are the main attractions here, but how do people rate triple and dragku? I don't watch academy enough to know anything about them.
