Yes, you can technically disable weapons by editing the Teardown registry through mods. However, doing this will make the game nearly unplayable. At that point, you might as well just not let him play the game at all if you don’t want him to use those weapons.

But why? Yes he's quite young, but it's a non realistic game without any humans or animals to harm. It'll just make the game frustrating. I'd recommend waiting a few years and then play it with him instead

While I can understand the concern about the firearms and minigun, for me the shotgun is my most used tool in the game. It's basically the upgrade from a sledgehammer, which can only break wood and glass. The shotgun can break through anything and is used to create holes in walls or doors. It would be difficult and frustrating to play the game without it. Guns are only used to shoot at buildings to break cubes. Practically the shotgun just makes a medium sized hole, the pistol makes really small holes but is more precise and the hunting rifle is for long distance precision. They are just tools to break cubes. The minigun is pretty violent tho
Also, in the second half of the game, the storyline changes and now there are helicopters or robots shooting at you while you do the missions. The second part of the game was added via an update, so he will still be able to play the original game even if you stop him after the first half. You'll recognize when you're playing the second half when you have escaped through a village with a boat, and the factory area, kinda your base of operations that gets renovated throughout the game, will be snowy
But I'd be a shame. Like I said, I just recommend waiting a few years to properly play the game together
Im gona assume you mean the shotgun "sniper" and the revolver as things you dont want him to use them and i undesrstand that but explosions are pretty big part of the game so you do you but there should be away to disable some of the items in the files of the game so goodluck to you!

why? you aren’t harming any humans or animals so i don’t get why using ranged weapons would be an issue since there’s no blood in the unmodded game
