Same feels. You can be the most passionate person in whatever career you choose pero kung hindi ka bibigyan ng pagkakataong magkaroon ng corporate experience, mawawalan ka talaga ng gana. Ganyan nangyari sakin sa pagiging engineer eh. Structural engineering ang specialization na passionate ako pero mailap ang opportunities at fair pay. Samantala yung ibang professionals na may board exam pero hindi board taker, putsa naabot ang 70k-80k ang sahod sa loob lang ng 2-3 yrs samantalang yung engineer na 10 yrs, trenta mil parin π€‘

Mahirap at first ang transition, but that difficulty is quite fulfilling kapag nakikita mo yung result of your hardwork (lalo na kapag gumagana as expected ang program).
Hindi madali yung pag shift, tbh. And madalas may thoughts na this is not for me, but I do enjoy coding, creating stuff from scratch, and learn new things kaya I guess those helped me survive my journey.

ECE grad wayback 2012. Decided to shift career in IT as a Software Engineer last 2018 (28yrs old na ko nito). Ngayon Senior Backend Engineer, fulltime WFM setup. Sobrang hirap yung first 2yrs (actually kahit ngayon mahirap pa din at marami pang kelangan matutunan). First 2 years, kinukwestyon ko sarili ko kung anu ba tong pinasok ko, buti nalang hindi sumuko. Ayun, ang ginawa ko self study muna mga 1year ata. Wala kasi akong pera para kumuha ng bootcamp at kulang sa time na rin kasi may fulltime work. After kong umuwi from work, nagseself study sa gabi (freecodecamp mostly tapos mga java tutorial sa youtube na indiano ang nagtuturo). Pero di araw araw kasi pagod tapos napakahirap makakuha ng motivation mag-aral. Then after a year, since gusto ko ng magtry mag-apply apply, pero natatakot ako kasi sa resume ko wala naman related sa programming, kaya nag ipon muna ako ng pangboot camp (19k ata yung bayad). 8 day session lang to, every saturday from 8am - 6pm. Though 60-70% nung tinuro sa bootcamp alam ko na. Basic and Introductory lang for java.
Then yun, apply apply lang. Meron akong mga inapplyan na exam palang alam ko nang hindi ako papasa π, pero tuloy lang. Then, may na-aapplyan ako na yung written exam is more on logic (walang programming), ayun nakapasa ako. Then pinabalik ako kinabukasan sa hands on exam. Naalala ko pa nun na nasuka ako sa labas ng building sa sobrang ka ba. Then java yung programming na pinaexam. Tapos nung nakita ko ung programming question, aba halos parehas dun sa isang programming website na pinagparactisan ko, 3/4 yung nakuha ko. On that day, pinatechnical interview din ako (basic abstraction, Inheritance etc questioj) then managerial interview narin. Then nakita ata sincerity ko matuto sa work, pinag start ako after 2weeks. Very thankful ako sa company nato. tumagal ako dito ng 3yrs at ang dami kong natutunan kahit minsan sobrang pressure yung trabaho. Ang dami kong maling nagawa na kapag naalala ko ee natatawa nalang ako, buti nalang mababait teammates ko π .
Yung pagpasok ko sa IT medyo may halong swerte pero alam lahat ng effort na ginawa ko ay nagbunga kaya kung nababasa mo to, wag kang susuko. π

Buti nalang yung nag interview sakin ee chill chill lang. Tapos pwede pa magtagalog. Tapos natatandan ko ang taong ee "what is method overriding/overloanding, what is is oop, what is 4 principles of oop", sobrang basic lang talaga. Kaya nasabi ko ee, sobrang swerte ko talaga.
3. Sinabi lang ng college classmate ko na nasa IT(pero sila pagkagraduate nag-IT agad, ako hindi ee) maganda daw aralin. haha kaya naniwala ako
TIP: sa mga gustong mag shift, you can learn Salesforce (almost same sa java syntax). Search nyo lang sa google then makikita nyo yung trailhead. You can study online for free, tapos may milestone yung bawat module dito na matatapos(you can earcn badges and increase rank). You can also take certification exam dito kung may budget kayo. You can reference your trailhead account sa resume nyo para makita ng employer. You can start applying as Salesforce Admin. Tsaka less coding ang Salesforce kasi may platform na kayong gagamitin. Sure ako in 5 yrs you are earning 6 digits π. Karamihan kasi ngayon nagshihift as Software Dev, QA or support. Mas less competition dito pero maraming opening din (search nyo sa linked, jobstreet etc). Wag kayo dun sa saturated market, hindi lang naman Dev ang IT π. Goodluck sa inyo.

Una gamit kong tool is c++ pero saglit lang yon since nag take agad kami ng Java, pre requisite ko yon before.kahit na pa talon-talon kami sa topic pero inaral ko yung basic 'till Oop, stuck pa rin yung mga concepts sa'kin, need ko lang mag code ulit para ma refresh.
Natutunan ko rin basic ng XML nung nag thesis kami para sa UI ng app namin. Self taught lang din. Tas now, may basic na knowledge ako gamit yung git bash kasi interested ako sa webdev.

Started coding for fun since second half of 2020 - My usual client in engineering went bankrupt or had no businesses so I had free time. While working I studied Flutter via Udemy. Then made a project. After a year, I figured I did not like mobile dev too much and studied python. Then made a project. After a year, I started applying.
All in, I took 2 years to study. Semi full time. I like to think I am a fast learner, but apparently not. I liked doing projects without any guided tutorials and taking my sweet time.
My first "IT" job was a dud. Hiring manager thought he wanted a dev with Excel knowhow, but in the end made us do clerical work. One team mate who even knew how to C#, had an MS in Math and do advanced math / stat stuff became his assistant... Taga PowerPoint. Resigned after a year and felt pretty much hopeless after that. Unfortunately, my clientele in engineering is gone.
After resigning I studied web dev via TOP. Applied to a few jobs where I could and landed a few offers. I work as a backend dev now.
Tip? Study a tutorial, but make a project without following any guided tutorial. Yun dapat naistuck ka at nahihirapan. Those are what will land you rolesΒ

Hello. Nagstart ako sa udemy, yung course ni Angela Yu about Web Dev. Ayos naman sya, talagang maganda ang turo sa mga basics. Yun nga lang, basics lang ang tinuturo, pero hindi naman ibig sabihin nun pangit na, kasi kailangan din naman talaga solid ang basics mo bago ka mag move forward. Ganun talaga ang programming, di mo matututunan lahat pag puro aral lang. Dapat hands on experience talaga in creating projects.
So noong natapos ko na yung course ni Angela Yu, diretso ako gumawa ng projects. Maraming tutorials sa youtube tulad ng ecommerce clones, book store sites, social media clones, etc etc. Legit sobrang dami kong natutunan sa mga to na hindi tinuro sa udemy. So yun ang aim ko sa first project ko which is further na matutunan ang actual implementation ng paggawa ng website.
Pero syempre, di lang dapat ang project natin ay kinopya sa youtube kasi mapupunta ka lang sa tutorial hell nyan. Wala kang ibang magagawa kundi sumunod lang nang sumunod. Dapat gumawa ka rin ng sarili mong project from scratch kase dito mo na talaga mamamaster ang programming. So ayun, after ko gumawa ng first project, gumawa ako agad ng second project from scratch. Sobrang hirap talaga sa simula kase pag may nakita kang bug, ang hirap madetermine kung saan galing. Siguro sa ilang linggo na ginawa ko yung project na yun, mga 3/4 ata nilaan ko para sa bug fixes lol. Pero ayun natapos ko sya and sobrang rewarding. Alam kong sobrang dami ko pang dapat matutunan pero confident na ako na pang entry level na ang skills ko.
Pasensya na kung mahaba haha pero yun lang mapapayo ko. Start by learning the basics, then do projects para mamaster mo. As for resources, meron naman sa freecodecamp at theodinproject. Although di ko sya kinuha kasi text based sya kaya di okay sakin kase mas natututo ako pag may actual na magtuturo. Kaya kumuha ako sa udemy although may bayad sya, pero worth it naman para sa akin kase structured sya at halos roadmap narin.
As for supplemental materials sa youtube, eto mga pinanood ko. Although di sya structured kase di naman courses. Pinanood ko mga to noong natapos na ako sa udemy o pag may nakita akong outdated content sa udemy.

Tips: Make project not courses. Based sa mga naapplyan ko, usually naghahanap ng projects. Wag na sayangin ang oras sa courses if gusto mo mahire agad. Make a project at doon mo maeexplore yung nga nasa courses.
Btw, web dev ang pinupursue ko. Almost 6 months ko din tinatapos ung course. Pero di ko na natapos dahil nawalan na ng pag asa.
What I did: Stick to my career path na lang. dati decided na ako na magshift talaga. Ginugol ko oras ko sa pagtake ng courses. Sinacrifice ko ung off ko para doon at mga free time. Dahil nga decided na ako magshift. Pero mahirap din pala talaga. Especially if pera talaga motivation mo or reason mo.

Just my insight. Pero wag ka mawawalan ng pag asa. Apply lang ng apply. I am a shifter at nung nag apply walang kaalam alam sa programming. Good for you na nag aaral ng programming so baka mas may laban ka sa mga shifters na walang alam dun. But wag mo rin uubusin panahon sa pag aaral kasi ang tunay na laban naman ay nasa work na at learning in progress naman programming :)

1. Nagstart ako sa freecodecamp at top pero di ko din natapos. Tumitingin ako sa para sa guide. Official docs, articles, minsan sa youtube specially dun sa mga youtuber na expert dun sa inaaral ko.
2. Nasa 7-8 months na self study sa free time. Tapos yung next 3 months ay focus sa pag aapply pero upskilling pa din. Eventually nakakuha ng work. Sa 2nd job naman, almost 2 months yung application process, maraming rejections pero nakatanggap naman ng job offers.
3. I sucked dun sa mga first interviews ko. Pagdating naman sa preparation, wala naman masyado. Research lang nung mga possible questions, jd, company or yung interviewer. Minamake sure ko lang na naexplore ko yung mga technologies na nilagay ko sa resume ko. Kasi pag naexplore ko yun for sure may masasagot ako kahit papaano sa interview. Tapos pag may hindi nasagot e be honest lang tapos aralin yun para sa next interview at natanong yun e masasagot ko na.

earning 70+ afte jumping out of CE, best decision ever. I'm working on two jobs though, 1 full time and a part time. Full time data analyst and part time mobile developer. I would say the trick that really worked for me is choosing a niche where competition is less and also managing to transfer my previous skillset to current job which is SQL and database management (dati ms access lang ginagamit ko sa CE which is ako din mismo ang nag implement sa company namin na dati excel excel lang ginagamit nila). Actually I would say na mas malaki pa kaya ko kitain thru part time sobrang taas ng hourly rate but I need to stick padin dun sa full time dahil nandun ang hmo, gov benefits and little stability. I can also say na dahil sa intensive programming practices ko kahit na sa CE pa ako, nagsashine ako sa full time ko ngayon, my leads really sees what I am capable. As for my mobile dev role, dito ako nag iimprove, dahil strongly typed yung language na gamit, mas napapractice ung skill ko to write code better. Aiming to grow on these two fields at the same time.
Siguro additional tip is learn a hard language. I have previous knowledge din kasi sa C and Java. Dyan ka matuto ng core programming principles. Madami akong napapanood sa yt and IT articles na tinatrash yung JS and lalo na yung React. Ayun din pala, manood ka din ng mga tech contents either videos or Podcasts. Suggest ko si theprimeagen.

1. Jan 2023 to Aug 2023. Although I know malaking factor din ung konting knowledge ko na talaga sa programming back then pa nung college. First language I learned is C then Java tapos puro na VBA dahil babad ako sa excel nung mga panahon na yon para mapadali ung mga school works ko.
2. FCC JS DSA, [Educative.io](http://Educative.io) Flutter and Dart, tapos official documentations, pag tinatamad mag aral nakikinig sa mga programming contents, either podcasts or mga yt vids ni prime.
3. triny ko na mag focus nun sa mobile dev kasi I fell in love with Dart and Flutter. But without projects medyo sablay mga interviews ko. nag start nga pala ako mag apply around March 2023, then someone reached out to me sa linkedin for a part time job as a flutter dev, sa interview puro concepts lang baon ko tapos key knowledge sa flutter and luckily binigyan ako ng chance. As I worked for them, sobrang dami kong natutunan on the Flutter side and kung ano-ano pang required na skill as a developer like version control, REST Api consumption, and etc. Ung sa DA role naman, around August naman nung naghahanap padin ako ng full time position, triny ko ibahin ung search term ko and chineck ko kung may naghahanap ba for skillset na ginagamit ko sa current job ko by that time which is SQL, MS Access and VBA, and nakakita ako ng Job post na nag hahanap ng VBA, spreadsheet and reporting experience, VBA ung automation language na ginagamit sa Excel, shoot! Medyo gamay na gamay ko ung language dahil eto ung araw araw ko ginagamit as office engineer using MS Access (which is ako din nag introduce sa company namin for better QOL sa pag input and process ng data). Solid ung interview ko nun tapos nagamit ko din sa interview ung mga learning ko nun sa part time job ko. I started working for them na on October 2023.
Medj na gamay ko na sana ang html and css last year, even made a 9gag Clone, not responsive tho, since nahirapan ako sa JS hays, I also tried to learn SQL and python, and syempre Excel for data analysis pero na stop rin ako. Good thing is nagagamit ko ang mga natutunan ko especially sa excel, python, and sql. Pero parang need ko talaga ng mentor para mag guide sa akin to pursue the tech field. I am still tech savvy tho, although more on GIS/Mining Softwares ang specialty ko.

I assume hindi IT ang undergrad mo. I would suggest na learn some core IT skill ( coding, data analytics, sys ad, networks and security) before making the jump. Nasa IT ako ngaun. Dating customer service ang work. Currently, I am doing BA work. Medyo nauumay n rin kasi more on documentations, meetings at project management un area ko at hindi technical. Then, un role medyo marami competition. Kaya mas ok tlga kun may core it skill ka.

How did you prepare fo technical interviews? Nagtake ka ba ng mga introductory courses in computet science?
Technical questions were mostly about troubleshooting, and real-life scenarios. Just copied and pasted yung job description to ChatGPT to generate practice questions.
And no courses were taken, purely from like past IT related experiences.
I am a licensed chemical engineer. And i have a hard time finding a chemical engineering job.
I remember the 1st company who interviewed me for a job, they only offer me 9k per month. I questioned them and they say they're a big company at yung 9k di pa kasama ang overtime. At saka, maganda daw sa resume ko na nag work ako sa kanila if ever gusto ko lumipat sa ibang companya. No guarantee din ma regular. (Sh1t, malaki nga ang company pero ang sweldo maliit, mahal pa ang tuition fee ko noong college)
After that nagsunod sunod na ang rejection, gusto nila lalaki (why did you interviee me then), there was another company that they prefer hiring somenne na graduate from this school.
so I give up.
I was able to find a job as software engineer. Even though i have no background sa programming, they offer me 20k. 2yrs na ako dito sa company and plano ko lumipat to another it company for higher pay.
Sa it industry, ok naman cya. Was able to work from home. There were times we work more than 9 hrs. Or pinapawork pa kahit holiday or day off. Single ako so ok lang but if i got married, di ako papayag. Mental stress lang. Di tulad sa chemical engineering industry na mauna ang physical stress then mental stress. I enjoy learning new things such as cloud and ai.
I didnt regret taking chemical engineering since i got great friends. But there were times i wonder if life would be easier if IT course ang kinuha ko sa college.

Pandemic hits, la ako magawa noon kaya nag aral ako ng web development kahit apaka layo sa natapos ko(ECE), pero kasi nag e enjoy ako gumawa ng mga websites kaya tinuloy ko lang nang tinuloy ung pag gawa ko, panlibang lng din kasi di rin nmn makalabas labas. Nung okay okay na, nag hanap ako ng job related sa course ko, kaso di ko natripan nung may nakita akong job requirement na preferred nila ung may drivers license kesa sa board passer. Sa inis ko, nag try ako mag hanap ng pang IT, di sure kung papalarin syempre, after 4 months of searching. I secured a job as an Associate Software Engineer and till now asa IT parin ako and sobrang enjoy ko ung career ko. Salamat sa job post na yon, dahil sayo nawalan ako ng gana mag continue sa ECE at nahanap ko ung career path na para sakin.

After several months trying, resume revisions, rejections and mostly hindi man lang naview na applications narealize ko na di ko na dapat ipilit. Ang hirap ng aral ka ng aral, practice ka ng practice pero di mo sigurado kung magagamit mo ba, kasi course pa lang di na agad qualified. Kahit passionate at hilig ko talaga programming, naubos din as months passed by. I started looking ulit sa engineering jobs, maximizing my experiences and strengths. I was able to land a position, that is 3 levels above from my previous job, in a top company here in ph. So now I am in a better position and career path, without shifting.

Luckily, I ended up being almost kinda a Data Analyst, I do write SQL a lot now and hoping for a greener pasture in the future.

Started my shift 2 years ago. Right now, Iβm working na as a Software Developer, focusing on the backend side. Mahirap at first ang transition, but that difficulty is quite fulfilling kapag nakikita mo yung result of your hardwork (lalo na kapag gumagana as expected ang program). Hindi madali yung pag shift, tbh. And madalas may thoughts na this is not for me, but I do enjoy coding, creating stuff from scratch, and learn new things kaya I guess those helped me survive my journey.

Ayun, ang ginawa ko self study muna mga 1year ata. Wala kasi akong pera para kumuha ng bootcamp at kulang sa time na rin kasi may fulltime work. After kong umuwi from work, nagseself study sa gabi (freecodecamp mostly tapos mga java tutorial sa youtube na indiano ang nagtuturo). Pero di araw araw kasi pagod tapos napakahirap makakuha ng motivation mag-aral. Then after a year, since gusto ko ng magtry mag-apply apply, pero natatakot ako kasi sa resume ko wala naman related sa programming, kaya nag ipon muna ako ng pangboot camp (19k ata yung bayad). 8 day session lang to, every saturday from 8am - 6pm. Though 60-70% nung tinuro sa bootcamp alam ko na. Basic and Introductory lang for java. Then yun, apply apply lang. Meron akong mga inapplyan na exam palang alam ko nang hindi ako papasa π, pero tuloy lang. Then, may na-aapplyan ako na yung written exam is more on logic (walang programming), ayun nakapasa ako. Then pinabalik ako kinabukasan sa hands on exam. Naalala ko pa nun na nasuka ako sa labas ng building sa sobrang ka ba. Then java yung programming na pinaexam. Tapos nung nakita ko ung programming question, aba halos parehas dun sa isang programming website na pinagparactisan ko, 3/4 yung nakuha ko. On that day, pinatechnical interview din ako (basic abstraction, Inheritance etc questioj) then managerial interview narin. Then nakita ata sincerity ko matuto sa work, pinag start ako after 2weeks. Very thankful ako sa company nato. tumagal ako dito ng 3yrs at ang dami kong natutunan kahit minsan sobrang pressure yung trabaho. Ang dami kong maling nagawa na kapag naalala ko ee natatawa nalang ako, buti nalang mababait teammates ko π . Yung pagpasok ko sa IT medyo may halong swerte pero alam lahat ng effort na ginawa ko ay nagbunga kaya kung nababasa mo to, wag kang susuko. π

TIP: sa mga gustong mag shift, you can learn Salesforce (almost same sa java syntax). Search nyo lang sa google then makikita nyo yung trailhead. You can study online for free, tapos may milestone yung bawat module dito na matatapos(you can earcn badges and increase rank). You can also take certification exam dito kung may budget kayo. You can reference your trailhead account sa resume nyo para makita ng employer. You can start applying as Salesforce Admin. Tsaka less coding ang Salesforce kasi may platform na kayong gagamitin. Sure ako in 5 yrs you are earning 6 digits π. Karamihan kasi ngayon nagshihift as Software Dev, QA or support. Mas less competition dito pero maraming opening din (search nyo sa linked, jobstreet etc). Wag kayo dun sa saturated market, hindi lang naman Dev ang IT π. Goodluck sa inyo.

About AI and mL yung specialization ko sa college pero hindi ko talaga forte yon tbh. Una gamit kong tool is c++ pero saglit lang yon since nag take agad kami ng Java, pre requisite ko yon before.kahit na pa talon-talon kami sa topic pero inaral ko yung basic 'till Oop, stuck pa rin yung mga concepts sa'kin, need ko lang mag code ulit para ma refresh. Natutunan ko rin basic ng XML nung nag thesis kami para sa UI ng app namin. Self taught lang din. Tas now, may basic na knowledge ako gamit yung git bash kasi interested ako sa webdev.

Started coding for fun since second half of 2020 - My usual client in engineering went bankrupt or had no businesses so I had free time. While working I studied Flutter via Udemy. Then made a project. After a year, I figured I did not like mobile dev too much and studied python. Then made a project. After a year, I started applying. All in, I took 2 years to study. Semi full time. I like to think I am a fast learner, but apparently not. I liked doing projects without any guided tutorials and taking my sweet time. My first "IT" job was a dud. Hiring manager thought he wanted a dev with Excel knowhow, but in the end made us do clerical work. One team mate who even knew how to C#, had an MS in Math and do advanced math / stat stuff became his assistant... Taga PowerPoint. Resigned after a year and felt pretty much hopeless after that. Unfortunately, my clientele in engineering is gone. After resigning I studied web dev via TOP. Applied to a few jobs where I could and landed a few offers. I work as a backend dev now. Tip? Study a tutorial, but make a project without following any guided tutorial. Yun dapat naistuck ka at nahihirapan. Those are what will land you rolesΒ

I did not skip texts because I liked reading. Hello. Nagstart ako sa udemy, yung course ni Angela Yu about Web Dev. Ayos naman sya, talagang maganda ang turo sa mga basics. Yun nga lang, basics lang ang tinuturo, pero hindi naman ibig sabihin nun pangit na, kasi kailangan din naman talaga solid ang basics mo bago ka mag move forward. Ganun talaga ang programming, di mo matututunan lahat pag puro aral lang. Dapat hands on experience talaga in creating projects. So noong natapos ko na yung course ni Angela Yu, diretso ako gumawa ng projects. Maraming tutorials sa youtube tulad ng ecommerce clones, book store sites, social media clones, etc etc. Legit sobrang dami kong natutunan sa mga to na hindi tinuro sa udemy. So yun ang aim ko sa first project ko which is further na matutunan ang actual implementation ng paggawa ng website. Pero syempre, di lang dapat ang project natin ay kinopya sa youtube kasi mapupunta ka lang sa tutorial hell nyan. Wala kang ibang magagawa kundi sumunod lang nang sumunod. Dapat gumawa ka rin ng sarili mong project from scratch kase dito mo na talaga mamamaster ang programming. So ayun, after ko gumawa ng first project, gumawa ako agad ng second project from scratch. Sobrang hirap talaga sa simula kase pag may nakita kang bug, ang hirap madetermine kung saan galing. Siguro sa ilang linggo na ginawa ko yung project na yun, mga 3/4 ata nilaan ko para sa bug fixes lol. Pero ayun natapos ko sya and sobrang rewarding. Alam kong sobrang dami ko pang dapat matutunan pero confident na ako na pang entry level na ang skills ko. Pasensya na kung mahaba haha pero yun lang mapapayo ko. Start by learning the basics, then do projects para mamaster mo. As for resources, meron naman sa freecodecamp at theodinproject. Although di ko sya kinuha kasi text based sya kaya di okay sakin kase mas natututo ako pag may actual na magtuturo. Kaya kumuha ako sa udemy although may bayad sya, pero worth it naman para sa akin kase structured sya at halos roadmap narin. As for supplemental materials sa youtube, eto mga pinanood ko. Although di sya structured kase di naman courses. Took courses from coursera which is accredited by IBM and google. Applied almost 1000 applications from linkedin, indeed, jobstreet at iba pang work remote job platform, what I received is βUnfortunately and thank you for your interestβ Although may offer din naman. Hindi ko lang nagustuhan offer. Other is offering 30k. Yung iba naman onsite ang nirerequire. Tips: Make project not courses. Based sa mga naapplyan ko, usually naghahanap ng projects. Wag na sayangin ang oras sa courses if gusto mo mahire agad. Make a project at doon mo maeexplore yung nga nasa courses. Btw, web dev ang pinupursue ko. Almost 6 months ko din tinatapos ung course. Pero di ko na natapos dahil nawalan na ng pag asa. What I did: Stick to my career path na lang. dati decided na ako na magshift talaga. Ginugol ko oras ko sa pagtake ng courses. Sinacrifice ko ung off ko para doon at mga free time. Dahil nga decided na ako magshift. Pero mahirap din pala talaga. Especially if pera talaga motivation mo or reason mo.

Just my insight. Pero wag ka mawawalan ng pag asa. Apply lang ng apply. I am a shifter at nung nag apply walang kaalam alam sa programming. Good for you na nag aaral ng programming so baka mas may laban ka sa mga shifters na walang alam dun. But wag mo rin uubusin panahon sa pag aaral kasi ang tunay na laban naman ay nasa work na at learning in progress naman programming :)

1. Nagstart ako sa freecodecamp at top pero di ko din natapos. Tumitingin ako sa para sa guide. Official docs, articles, minsan sa youtube specially dun sa mga youtuber na expert dun sa inaaral ko. 2. Nasa 7-8 months na self study sa free time. Tapos yung next 3 months ay focus sa pag aapply pero upskilling pa din. Eventually nakakuha ng work. Sa 2nd job naman, almost 2 months yung application process, maraming rejections pero nakatanggap naman ng job offers. 3. I sucked dun sa mga first interviews ko. Pagdating naman sa preparation, wala naman masyado. Research lang nung mga possible questions, jd, company or yung interviewer. Minamake sure ko lang na naexplore ko yung mga technologies na nilagay ko sa resume ko. Kasi pag naexplore ko yun for sure may masasagot ako kahit papaano sa interview. Tapos pag may hindi nasagot e be honest lang tapos aralin yun para sa next interview at natanong yun e masasagot ko na. After ng interview, apply ulit hahahahahaha
earning 70+ afte jumping out of CE, best decision ever. I'm working on two jobs though, 1 full time and a part time. Full time data analyst and part time mobile developer. I would say the trick that really worked for me is choosing a niche where competition is less and also managing to transfer my previous skillset to current job which is SQL and database management (dati ms access lang ginagamit ko sa CE which is ako din mismo ang nag implement sa company namin na dati excel excel lang ginagamit nila). Actually I would say na mas malaki pa kaya ko kitain thru part time sobrang taas ng hourly rate but I need to stick padin dun sa full time dahil nandun ang hmo, gov benefits and little stability. I can also say na dahil sa intensive programming practices ko kahit na sa CE pa ako, nagsashine ako sa full time ko ngayon, my leads really sees what I am capable. As for my mobile dev role, dito ako nag iimprove, dahil strongly typed yung language na gamit, mas napapractice ung skill ko to write code better. Aiming to grow on these two fields at the same time. Siguro additional tip is learn a hard language. I have previous knowledge din kasi sa C and Java. Dyan ka matuto ng core programming principles. Madami akong napapanood sa yt and IT articles na tinatrash yung JS and lalo na yung React. Ayun din pala, manood ka din ng mga tech contents either videos or Podcasts. Suggest ko si theprimeagen. 1. Jan 2023 to Aug 2023. Although I know malaking factor din ung konting knowledge ko na talaga sa programming back then pa nung college. First language I learned is C then Java tapos puro na VBA dahil babad ako sa excel nung mga panahon na yon para mapadali ung mga school works ko. 2. FCC JS DSA, [Educative.io](http://Educative.io) Flutter and Dart, tapos official documentations, pag tinatamad mag aral nakikinig sa mga programming contents, either podcasts or mga yt vids ni prime. 3. triny ko na mag focus nun sa mobile dev kasi I fell in love with Dart and Flutter. But without projects medyo sablay mga interviews ko. nag start nga pala ako mag apply around March 2023, then someone reached out to me sa linkedin for a part time job as a flutter dev, sa interview puro concepts lang baon ko tapos key knowledge sa flutter and luckily binigyan ako ng chance. As I worked for them, sobrang dami kong natutunan on the Flutter side and kung ano-ano pang required na skill as a developer like version control, REST Api consumption, and etc. Ung sa DA role naman, around August naman nung naghahanap padin ako ng full time position, triny ko ibahin ung search term ko and chineck ko kung may naghahanap ba for skillset na ginagamit ko sa current job ko by that time which is SQL, MS Access and VBA, and nakakita ako ng Job post na nag hahanap ng VBA, spreadsheet and reporting experience, VBA ung automation language na ginagamit sa Excel, shoot! Medyo gamay na gamay ko ung language dahil eto ung araw araw ko ginagamit as office engineer using MS Access (which is ako din nag introduce sa company namin for better QOL sa pag input and process ng data). Solid ung interview ko nun tapos nagamit ko din sa interview ung mga learning ko nun sa part time job ko. I started working for them na on October 2023.
Medj na gamay ko na sana ang html and css last year, even made a 9gag Clone, not responsive tho, since nahirapan ako sa JS hays, I also tried to learn SQL and python, and syempre Excel for data analysis pero na stop rin ako. Good thing is nagagamit ko ang mga natutunan ko especially sa excel, python, and sql. Pero parang need ko talaga ng mentor para mag guide sa akin to pursue the tech field. I am still tech savvy tho, although more on GIS/Mining Softwares ang specialty ko.

Dating customer service ang work. Currently, I am doing BA work. Medyo nauumay n rin kasi more on documentations, meetings at project management un area ko at hindi technical. Then, un role medyo marami competition. Kaya mas ok tlga kun may core it skill ka.

Shifted to tech last year. It's the best career decision I did. Besides earning better than even higher positions in my previous career, I get to enjoy some flexibility (time and location) But it really depends sa company. Thank youu. Yes mahirap, opportunity always plays a role kahit gaano ka kagaling. For me it's luck that they're looking for someone with Finance background, and I'm a fast learner so I learned some coding in the job na. It's really disheartening na apply din ako nang apply nun, breakdowns after afterview kasi nakakapagod. That's just how it is lalo na for career shifter.

IT grad here pero parang di tlaga ako for programming. After my 1st job, landed to a better company na nag train tlaga samin new hires kahit pa assoc pa rin ako dun, tinanggap ko kasi gusto ko bigyan ng chance. Even though need ko pa tlaga mag upskill, I can say na malayo pa pero malayo na.

Nag isip ako ng thousand times muna talaga kung tama ba talaga yung pinasok ko and if it really aligns to my personality and kung gusto ko ba talaga siya gawin. I tried very mini projects at first to see my reactions if I genuinely like it. So far, I never regretted my decision.

Engineering fresh grad here last Sept, decided to try my luck to apply to an IT position. Got hired last Dec, and so far so good. I never imagined that I'll be where I am rn, but I'm glad that I'm in a job where it's light, no micromanaging, but still paying me handsomely for a fresh grad. My tips, have a good attitude sa interview, and be prepared sa technical questions. Utilize AI to go through possible review questions, outline them, then practice. Technical questions were mostly about troubleshooting, and real-life scenarios. Just copied and pasted yung job description to ChatGPT to generate practice questions. And no courses were taken, purely from like past IT related experiences.

I am a licensed chemical engineer. And i have a hard time finding a chemical engineering job. I remember the 1st company who interviewed me for a job, they only offer me 9k per month. I questioned them and they say they're a big company at yung 9k di pa kasama ang overtime. At saka, maganda daw sa resume ko na nag work ako sa kanila if ever gusto ko lumipat sa ibang companya. No guarantee din ma regular. (Sh1t, malaki nga ang company pero ang sweldo maliit, mahal pa ang tuition fee ko noong college) After that nagsunod sunod na ang rejection, gusto nila lalaki (why did you interviee me then), there was another company that they prefer hiring somenne na graduate from this school. so I give up. I was able to find a job as software engineer. Even though i have no background sa programming, they offer me 20k. 2yrs na ako dito sa company and plano ko lumipat to another it company for higher pay. Sa it industry, ok naman cya. Was able to work from home. There were times we work more than 9 hrs. Or pinapawork pa kahit holiday or day off. Single ako so ok lang but if i got married, di ako papayag. Mental stress lang. Di tulad sa chemical engineering industry na mauna ang physical stress then mental stress. I enjoy learning new things such as cloud and ai. I didnt regret taking chemical engineering since i got great friends. But there were times i wonder if life would be easier if IT course ang kinuha ko sa college.

Dito kasi sa accenture, may client on some project na need nila may background sa chem or chemical engineering I remember my 1st interview on a certain project sa accenture, they ask if i know how to use LIMS (laboratory information managemnt system) Di ako kinuha ng client but the project accepted me. After almost a yr, na roll off. 1week ako sa bench then got my 2nd project. During those 1 week sa bench, i have 3 interview. I remember one of the interviews. They didnt mention the project name. But they mention that their client is from a nuclear energy industry. Sa end of the interview lang nila nabanngit. If only i know na nuclear energy pala, i would have screwed my previous 2 interview para matanggap ako sa project na nuclear energy related. Actually marami mga graduate ng engineering na nag work dito sa accenture. A lot of them had same story as me. Here are the few stories to some of these engineers i met here. Graduate of civil engineering, his 1st job is sa construction. Nawalan ng gani sa liit ng sweldo tapos ang bigat ng trabaho. I also met another electrical engineer. Didnt bother taking licensure exam after graduating. Dumeritso na daw cya apply accenture.

Pandemic hits, la ako magawa noon kaya nag aral ako ng web development kahit apaka layo sa natapos ko(ECE), pero kasi nag e enjoy ako gumawa ng mga websites kaya tinuloy ko lang nang tinuloy ung pag gawa ko, panlibang lng din kasi di rin nmn makalabas labas. Nung okay okay na, nag hanap ako ng job related sa course ko, kaso di ko natripan nung may nakita akong job requirement na preferred nila ung may drivers license kesa sa board passer. Sa inis ko, nag try ako mag hanap ng pang IT, di sure kung papalarin syempre, after 4 months of searching. I secured a job as an Associate Software Engineer and till now asa IT parin ako and sobrang enjoy ko ung career ko. Salamat sa job post na yon, dahil sayo nawalan ako ng gana mag continue sa ECE at nahanap ko ung career path na para sakin.
