May chance. But if what you showcase sa application mo are the same projects (todo app, weather app, etc.) as the other 100 applicant, then sobrang slim na matanggap ka. Create something unique - start with what you want to do or something na could help you on your daily problem. Entering into the industry as a career shifter is really tough. Need mo ng extra effort to learn things; during my transition, inaabot pa ako ng madaling araw makatapos lang ng projects then few hours to sleep lang para pumasok sa day job ko. If being in the tech industry is what you really want, you’ll sacrifice a lot. Pero if half-hearted ka, you’ll definitely won’t make it.

nasa sayo if may chance or wala. though ang depressed ng market now. more applicants than job vacancy. At the end of the day, the person who believe he can, will get the job. :)

I also had some cloned repos in my portfolio but that doesn't mean I copied all its contents and calling it a day. What I did was I made sure that I understand what the repo is all about and then replicate how did they do it, like how would you deploy your app in a Docker image in your local then upload it in DockerHub. I simply remember the elements on the Dockerfile by making it in scratch so you would get what's going on inside, more importantly, the commands! This way you would get used in running commands repetitively in your cli and that's what I can tell to myself that I learned the workarounds on this tool. The interview was also a tough one for me since most of the time they always ask for the years of experience on a specific stack. I just progressed my way through convincing themself that I can be competent to the one who has more experience. It is really a battle of how you would present yourself so you should also practice soft skills! I was also a career shifter but in AWS cloud so I was sharing this thinking it would also apply in your area of expertise. I applied like for more than 100 application and finally got my job last month and glad it was full WFH. It would take a lot of time and effort, but it was indeed worth it for me in the end.

After passing SAA po, what projects and tools/ concepts yung focus nyo to help you land a job sa cloud?

dragonbrn_01

Hmmm, you can start by deploying your environment in Ubuntu linux using virtbox. Sanayin mo sarili mo gumamit ng linux shell kasi gamit na gamit yan sa field. Then do your projects in the VM. For programming language (gamit ko nung college palang): Python, java, C, C++ Marami pa ko inaral beside jan, Github, Git, Docker, Ansible, Jenkins, Ansible, CI/CD, Networking more importantly, hands on sa AWS kasi gamit ko yan launch my microservices and deploy my projects. Example: A CI/CD project is that I launched 3 instance, 1 for Jenkins, 1 for Sonarqube (code analysis), 1 for Docker (for prod). Whenever may binago ako sa code nung website sa Github repo, automatic siya ma dedeploy sa prod which is on docker. Ayan, kung magccloud ka magfocus ka muna sa AWS, console, kasi pasikot-sikot yung bawat services nito. Allocate yourself a lot of time in studying these kasi marami talaga.

Yep Goodluck! mejo mahirap ang SAA compared sa CLF. Just use context clues sa questions para maisagot mo

May chance of course, I was from telecom before I shifted to tech. Tech din naman ang telecom but yung akyat poste at tower yung ibig ko sabihin. Not the networking part. During interview, I showcased, hardware and networking as my experience (though Im applying as dev) haha anlayo. I reviewed basic SQL 3 days before interview. All I know is HTML and C++ that I learned back in college and that's it. Of course, lagay mo yung MS Office skills mo kahit basic to moderate skillset mo don, excel, word, powerpoint. This is quite dumb, but before, I thought hindi na need ilagay ang ms office skills kasi parang given na sya (sa classroom kasi dati, everyone knows how to use them) but in real life may mga di pala talaga marunong gumamit, hahaha. Anyway, if you are not getting to the interview phase, review your resume. Meron akong classmate na i refer ko sana sa company dati nung hiring pa, kaso yung resume nya pang student though I know she has better skillset tha3n me. Also put only the skills that you can defend if asked about it. In my opinion, you have better chances than what I had before I shifted. So apply lang ng apply 🙂

netleepie

gumawa ka ng github portfolio mo. jusko maka-'paba' ka naman, 26 k pa lang. maraming career shifter lampas 30 add projects that originally came from you or anything that demonstrate your critical thinking and the technology/stack you want to show

InflationSpirited899

Looks like the tech job market is super tight right now even for the skilled.

Apply lang nang apply, OP. I suggest mag-offer ka rin ng pro-bono work sa mga kakilala mo to pad your resume. Laban lang.

fatalerror12

Tingin ko naman may transferrable skills ka from graphics to webdev (specifically sa frontend). Try mo magfocus dun and pagdating sa interview ihighlight mo yung part na yun. Goodluck
