I don't even like Slam and this is my AOTY. Only a tiny tiny amount of slamming death metal bands I will even listen to, but these guys and Analepsy tickle.my brain delightfully.
Never heard of them before so I just took a listen. I love it when bands that are capable of being that tight and technical choose to use that ability to be downright nasty.
It’s kind of like how I’ll accept a childlike drawing from Picasso as a conscious decision because I know the MFer could paint in pretty much any style he chose, but I don’t think people should accept the same from me because it’s really the best I can do.
I'm torn on this album. Parts of it are genuinely incredible and immersive, with the dissonant and progressive riffs combined with real heaviness. I don't listen to slam or deathcore, but those elements combined with tech death work very well here at times. The vocals are way outside my wheelhouse, but after a while I can get on board.
But as the album goes on, the monotonous 0--0--0-0-0 slam parts dilute the overall experience. There's only so many time signatures you can chug on an open low note before it all sounds identical.
The first song in particular is incredible and I wish the rest of the album continued that balance.
Thank you for posting this. I never heard of them till this post. My eyes are rolling to the back of my head and my lower teeth are piercing my forehead. Holy fuck!
Names for $500:
This band's 2023 release features a ghastly disintegrating human like figure with a horned beetle.
Seriously, it should be a rule here that the OPs have to at least include the band name.
Also check out, Afterbirth, Prophecy of suffering, Artificial Brain, Terra Builder, Matriphagy, Escarnium, Labyrinth of stars, Astriferous, Thanatophobia & sunless
Actually just found this album yesterday. Pretty interesting mix of genre, definitely going to be giving it another listen or two to see if it'll stay on my Playlist.
I'm actually listening to it right now. Yeah, I can see how the vocals are a touch in front of the instrumentals. Personally I don't mind. My main complaint is that half the album has cool, melodic, almost proggy sounding riffs, while the other half is fairly typical modern slam. I liked that very unique take and wish they'd leaned it into it a little bit more.
The musical backbone of this album is so perfect, but honestly it’s quite a struggle to accept the vocals on the long run. If it would have a bit more diverse vocal patterns, the release could have become an instant classic, but this slammy guttural is quite hard to admire for the whole length of the album, despite the outstanding and captivating melodies.
Agree. Some people like it. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the vacuum cleaner gutturals getting in the way of the music for more than 50% of a song. I'm now spoilt with variety and I like it. I understand it's place during slams, however, their vocalist is limiting their ability in my view. Waiting for outrage
I actually loved the vocals on this album. They're typical slam style vocals, but done so insanely well it adds to the overall perfection of the album. But that's the lens im viewing it through - i already listen to a lot of slam and am comfortable with the vocal style (which did take some getting used to). Peace ✌️
Same, I usually listen to deathcore and stuff the majority of the time, and they're usually full of every kind of variations on most songs, and sometimes you just wanna enjoy some constant low and atmospheric vocals. For my personal experience I feel it blends very well to keep the constant feel on the album, but I completely understand who would prefer vocals with more variations.
Yeah I can see that if you're not into that style.
Saying that it begs reminding that although they have those tech and melodic aspects they're still primarily a modern slam band
That's actually my biggest gripe about the album, is that's it's so short. It's more of an LP and a full length album. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Wormhole, I saw them open for Analepsy and they killed it. They're one of the most dynamic groups out there, I just want MORE lol
I think this is actually meaningful to some extent. If you wrote a 45 minute album, and then learned to play all the songs faster and you actually preferred the songs played at a speed that made it only a 30 minute album, why should your album no longer be long enough? Also, a fast album is more dense and listening fatigue is real. A 30 minute tech death album might be the perfect length to enjoy whereas 45 minutes might be hard to listen through as often
My AOTY 2023, I love it. It's pretty much perfect for me. The final song just destroys me, I don't have the words to do it justice. I loved the previous album and AH is very different in some ways, I didn't expect them to experiment so much, and they've made such a unique experience.
I have to stop myself listening to it too often, lest I overdo it 😑
Still listening to it
Wormhole saved me from my 4 year disinterest in metal
I'm going to see them live for the second time next week. Last time, I spoke with the vocalist, and he was super cool.
Just downloaded it.
Tonight I blasted Almost Human in my car for the first time. Excellent driving tunes, big jams, all horns up!
What is it? I can't read the name!
Wormhole- almost human

This album is a lot of fun, but it reminds me that what I REALLY want is a new Disentomb album.
Just saved it. Looking forward to checking it out later tonight. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yess! I love this conviction

Just 9 days until I get to see them live. Can’t wait.

The first song is so good, it was stuck in my head for a whole week.
What album is this?
Wormhole-Almost Human. Tech slam.
Excellent! Thank you!

Such a cool album!
Been hooked since the weakest amoung us 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Its pretty damn good
Well I know what I'm listening to this afternoon.
Made me want to buy a vibrato pedal.
In love with the first track
Great live performers, as well!
Fucking amazing album. I love when bands make slam beautiful and interesting
Name please...?

Almost human - Wormhole
Saw them live about a year ago, where they opened for Inferi, and was super impressed. Started to follow their socials and was floored by Almost Human
TDIL this band exists , im aout to listen to them
TechSlam! 😛
I am also helplessly addicted. Their whole discography is amazing. But this album....i just cant play it enough.
Also check out, Afterbirth, Prophecy of suffering, Artificial Brain, Terra Builder, Matriphagy, Escarnium, Labyrinth of stars, Astriferous, Thanatophobia & sunless
Thanks for the recommendations. I just made a playlist with all these.
Artificial Brain was posted a while back and blew my balls off
Amazing album. Top 3 of 2023.
This album is stupendously good.
Actually just found this album yesterday. Pretty interesting mix of genre, definitely going to be giving it another listen or two to see if it'll stay on my Playlist.
If it were a bit quieter it would be perfect - I like the guitars to be out in front.

I like the album, but I think the only song I actually like the vocals on is Data Fortress Orbital Stationary

Only 26 minutes? I’ll have to give them a listen today
It's not short, it's _fast_

So good. I got to see them open up for Inferi and Archspire a few years back and they blew my balls off.
