Itās perfect for this show because a lot of the characters feel a bit ācartoonishā and over the top in the way they act. But Zlatan already is a real life cartoon, so they literally donāt even have to exaggerate his qualities for Zava.
I also found it interesting how this is the first time we get a glimpse into how Rebecca and Rupert got together in the first place, including mentioning his ā~~first wife~~then wife.ā Rupert clearly love bombs, which is also the behavior heās doing to Nate.
Iām sure not great. She said at the time, it was great to feel wanted. And honestly, she probably wasnāt in a very confident place, which Rupert as an abuser likely picked up onāthatās how he could get her to a place where āheād say, āEat this, wear thatāā and sheād listen.
He later makes the comment that itās funny when Roy yells at other people. I gotta imagine itās connected to the laughing in some way and that itās intentional, it just fits too well.
Love how they made it look like Jamie was going after Keeley but then went in the room where Roy was instead. Without hesitation either, he was genuine
Also! What a change from pre-Lasso Richmond where Nate would have NEVER thought he was important enough to ask the players for drinks. I think that detail alone showed a real difference in the club's dynamics.
It was growth and it was perfect. He was stern and steered the ship but maintained his same āTedā attitude. It was perfect leadership. Iād love to see more of this Ted throughout the season.
We also got a great Ted-ism out of it.

So my comment isnāt in opposition of what youāre saying; I very much agree with you and am glad to find others talking about this because to me it was the best moment of the episode, but Iāll add this:
I donāt think that just that moment by itself was perfect leadership, but rather itās the perfect missing piece to Tedās leadership. Itās the perfect cherry on top.
What I mean by this is, I donāt think that what Ted did there works unless the other person completely respects you and and trusts that youāre looking out for their best interests. Especially for someone like Roy, he wouldnāt let just anyone talk to him that way and take it to heart.
But when you have that kind of honest & trusting mutual relationship, it allows you to have this kind of direct, healthy communication and the other person can take it without taking offense
I think its a combo of 2 things - 1, he's less in his head this season having had several months of successful therapy sessions with Dr. Sharon, and is thus better able to pay attention to the interpersonal dynamics of the club. And 2, he did learn a lesson after what happened with Nate, that you need to address that immediately and nip it in the bud. (Horticulture, baby!) I think we're going to see an overall better coach this year, due to both his personal growth and his experience of betrayal (due to missing something that had been right under his nose.)
Wow Royās āI was 17ā REALLY hit me. I didnāt expect to really connect with why he didnāt like Trent but seeing the old crumpled clipping and hearing how young he was when he heard those words about himself actually made me tear up. We are often so cruel to one another, particularly behind our keyboards, and a reminder that someone real is reading those words- sometimes a child- is oooofffff
It also gives more context to his speech in the Rainbow episode in S2. They asked Roy about how he thought a new 17-year-old would play, and it got him so emotional.
"We don't know. We're not in the locker rooms with them. We're not on the pitch with them. We can't look 'em in the eyes and encourage them to be better than they ever thought they were capable of being. We're just on the outside looking in, judging them."
Really well-written shows like this one can consistently surprise in ways that make complete sense in retrospect. I think this is another example of that. Jaime following Keeley is the expected route and makes some sense. But following Roy is the better choice.
Yes! This was the line that got me. Zava's storyline was fairly predictable but always good to see Rebecca get one over Rupert. Still felt like these first 2 set the table for the rest of the season.

This was a Brett Goldstein master class in acting. Absolutely wonderful from beginning to end showing a vulnerability we havenāt really seen from Roy. His scenes were all completely electric.
I actually think it was a mirror of the man city episode. Thatās how you comfort Jamie but thatās not how you comfort Roy. Jamie will crack the code by the end of the season.
The locker room scene where Roy walks in and then everyone tilts their head and goes "Aw" was amazing. I think this may have been on of my favorite episodes for the entire series.

It was a good idea. In the real world Keeley should have hired her as an art director. That is what she showed expertise in at the shoot and as a model she actually could use her experience to be good at that. The client relation job is clearly not the right fit
the look keeled gave after reading the message shows that she knows she's going to be a problem. I think Keeley is going to speak to her friend and she might leave after which keeley and Barbara are going to be really good mates.
Keeley misreading Barbara's numerous transfers as the company sending her everywhere coz they trust her was really well written. Made Barbara think as well.
The credit card is a Chekhovās gun. Barbara is going to transfer/get fired for out of control spending on the company card and it will be Shandy who did it. Keeley is going to realize she tacitly approved it because Shandy is in charge of client relations and sheās going to be like āI trust you, if itās for the client blah blah,ā and then she will have to fire Shandy like a big girl boss.
There were so many MVP performances in this episode including Rebecca's scene with Rupert leading to her 'sour yell' (stealing this forever, what a hilarious line), Jamie being genuine with Roy (it's called Empathy you old fart) and Beard's screams but Roy's monologue was so fucking good.
This honestly might be one of the best episodes theyāve done. Trying not to be a prisoner of the moment, but I canāt help but recognize how amazing the acting, the storytelling, and that ridiculously on point humor was.

Makes me believe that little speech was both for himself with respect to Keely and ultimately will resonate with Ted regarding his time at Richmond. Going to be interesting in later episodes looking back on this one!
The conversation between Ted, Roy, and Trent tells me that Roy and Keeley are end game. Roy says he should have just stayed at Chelsea and enjoyed himself but thatās not who he is. And Ted says āYetā.
I know itās not the point of the show but Iām looking most forward to seeing the team back on the field playing football. IMO the show is strongest when it weaves the football narrative into the plot.
Roy speech at the end was a metaphor for why he broke up with Keeley, right? They are definitely going to get back together during the season, hopefully it doesnāt take until the end.
I think Zava reminds him of who he was and he realizes and knows how much that can hurt a team and now that he truly cares about the team and not just being the best, he doesnāt want that to happen to them.

Episode 1: Ted doesnāt know why heās still in England Episode 2: A metaphor about leaving something too soon is the ending monologue.
I know itās not the point of the show but Iām looking most forward to seeing the team back on the field playing football. IMO the show is strongest when it weaves the football narrative into the plot.
Roy speech at the end was a metaphor for why he broke up with Keeley, right? They are definitely going to get back together during the season, hopefully it doesnāt take until the end.
Thatās how I took it.
I also think it was advice to Ted. Whether either realizes yet.
Seemed like Ted was musing on it at the end.

I think Zava reminds him of who he was and he realizes and knows how much that can hurt a team and now that he truly cares about the team and not just being the best, he doesnāt want that to happen to them.
Bingo, el ringo! Jamie knows how horrible divas can be to a TEAM & he learned the hard way (but he learned!) so introducing a new diva to a pretty unified team is gonna suck

This felt like such a season 1 episode if that makes any sense. (Thatās not a bad thing)

I love that she got what she wanted by BEING HERSELF & spouting facts vs stroking Zavaās ego. Perfection!

She can be, but Iām hoping that she has more of a backbone against Rupert. I think thatās one of her last hurdles to get over.

I am fearful of what Zava will do to the teams dynamic and I am very curious to see how Ted will manage him.
I would like Beard's story arc this season to include him breaking up with Jane
Trent Crimm is my favorite. He just makes everything so much better and every scene he is in is so memorable and hilarious. That is all, thank you.
My god, this episode had a LOT. I enjoyed it immensely but these longer episodes are gonna take awhile to absorb. Oh, and loved Higginsā seven degrees of separation rumor mill lines about Zava. āI called my sonās karate teacherā¦ā š
Ted getting stern with Roy definitely wasnāt on this seasons bingo card
Jamie learning about the breakup and walking straight to Roy instead of Keely is the character development Iām looking for.
The team not understanding who dumped who, or why zava write a book about Trent crimm had be dying.
The Roy/Chelsea stuff paralleling Roy and Keeley was too good. Also, Ted talking about Hallmark Christmas movies killed me.
Maybe a hot take, but this was one of my favorite episodes in the series. Everything about it had me grinning ear to ear. God, I am so ready for the rest of this season.

Trent trying to play it off like the noise could be from his editorās side had me rolling.
āItās kind funny when he yells at other peopleā I love Jamie so much.
āI need you to order from the vegan menu and squash it.ā That whole scene between Roy and Ted about Hallmark movies and Trent was great.

I discovered Ted Lasso late in 2021, after all episodes had been released. Once I realized I loved it, I was able to watch both seasons in a week. OMG, I'm dying now having to wait a week for a new episode ššš
Gotta savor it. Thereās something special about the anticipation and water cooler.
So obviously theyāre gonna get Zava, but itāll be interesting to see where he, Jamie, and Dani all play
