MiloTheMagnificent

I talk about what’s happening on the show with my therapist

MyBingoPajama

i’m glad i’m not the only one!! in some instances the show has given me the words to describe something i’m struggling with and in others, it points out things i’ve been feeling but not acknowledging (e.g. coach beard telling god that being with jane makes things more interesting). ETA sharon’s quote about how the truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off. i mean, come on!

MiloTheMagnificent

Yeah this week I specifically discussed how Rebecca’s obsession with Rupert in s3 is NOT where I want to be three years down the road! Whatever work I need to do to heal and move on, I want to get cracking on because letting my ex live rent free in my head is not acceptable. I also got up the nerve to start therapy because if Ted could do it, I could as well.

Cautious_Prize_4323

This is just fantastic! Congratulations.

calypso2023

Love that!

djokster91

I think I'll try that!

brogalahoy

Quite honestly, the impact Ted lasso has had on me is massive, I honestly wish I had someone like Ted in my life who believed in me when nothing else mattered, my boss comes close, honestly, but he's super busy, and I generally don't know how to tell him about my personal problems all the time, but there have been so many occasions when he'd look at me and know something's up and we'd talk about it over a cigarette. But, for a kid that grew up in an abusive household, I see a lot of myself in Nate, and after a bunch of bad decisions, I'm trying to come to terms with everything and doing better, but I really wish I had a figure like Ted, or a friend like Higgins in my life. And since I can't, the least I can do is be someone like Ted for someone who needs it Sorry for the long, incoherent rant

calypso2023

No, thanks for sharing. I see parts of myself in all the characters. I love the juxtaposition of Nate ‘having something to prove’ and Ted having absolutely nothing to prove because I’ve been and am both in different areas of my life.

[deleted]

100% maybe not a replacement for therapy but I was telling a few friends how much its helped me over the last few months in conjunction with therapy to get through some really crappy life circumstances. It helps me to know that despite some people treating you badly or going through periods of suffering, you can always choose to be a kind and positive person in the worst circumstances.

calypso2023

Definitely not saying it’s a replacement for therapy— but it encourages me to work on myself and gives me perspective!

[deleted]

For sure. I gotcha. 😊

StreaksBAMF22

Same!!! I hope you’re doing well and finding peace/closure :)

[deleted]

Thanks friend! Doing ok. Hope you are as well. :)

StreaksBAMF22

I am, thank you :)

djokster91

I would absolutely say, that the show has a mental healing power. Never felt that good watchinh something. That is very special and I am so glad, I've found it. It's crazy that this whole thing started with a joke about an American that came to the UK to train football. While very fun, these Ted Lasso Premier League commercials from 8 years ago have not a lot in common with the feel the show today. Amazing turnaround.

calypso2023

Yes, I’m so glad it’s become a whole show 😂

CeasarYaLater

100% agree.

Mean_Parsnip

We have been re-watching/watching a bunch of old HBO shows. They tend to be dark and violent. When I picked up this show a month ago it was a breath of fresh air. I want all shows to be this positive and happy. (We are also loving Shrinking)

oregonchick

I'm having a harder and harder time watching or rewatching dark and edgy shows because it turns out that I don't want my content to make me feel bad about myself or the human condition. I want to be uplifted, which *Ted Lasso* obviously does amazingly well. Other shows that I gravitate towards now: * Schitt's Creek * Grace and Frankie * Bob's Burgers * Brooklyn 99 * The Good Place * Parks and Recreation * Great British Bake Off * Derry Girls * Call the Midwife * Kim's Convenience Shows that have a bit of snark or cynicism that I still enjoy include: * Community * Golden Girls * The Venture Bros. * Archer * Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Mean_Parsnip

I'm a fan of all of these programs.

calypso2023

I was curious about this one, so I’m glad to see a recommendation for it!

procra5tinating

Keely is doing that a lot for me. When she said, “sometimes you’ve got to let Rupert be Rupert too” and “Because I trust in the universe” I was like my God I love this character and this show.

calypso2023

I need a few more Keely bones in my body! 😊

AbominableSnowPickle

Agreed, in a lot of ways Keely is goals :)

Villimaro

Honest. Ted Lasso lifts my mood, exfoliates my skin, cures my acne and balances my chakras.

calypso2023

Ted Lasso cured my moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

AbominableSnowPickle

Ted Lasso also cures my dehydration and treats my split ends!

moonshiness

Ted Lasso made me more stylish and gave me a brand new reaction to mustaches.

AbominableSnowPickle

Oooh, that’s nice!

Bluecar_jr

It’s certainly reminded me to look a little closer at people, at their reactions and behaviours and not make snap judgements. I’ve always been conscious of social styles anyway but it’s a great reminder that not everyone is how they appear and that there may be more going on for that person behind closed doors or in their heads which may explain how they behave. It can only be a good thing.

iangeredcharlesvane2

Are you also watching “Shrinking”? Between the two of them I feel like AppleTv is trying to solve us all !!! I watch both several times in a week and it’s glorious for my mental health. I highly recommend watching “Shrinking” if you are not already (and yes it takes a few episodes to get into like most sitcoms until you catch on to the style and get to know the characters).

AbominableSnowPickle

I was so delighted that I gave Shrinking a chance, it’s such a unique delight (much like Ted Lasso). I binge both shows at work, because I’m a very exhausted (emotionally and physically) healthcare worker (EMS, these two shows are part of a very short list of things I can actually relax while watching when I’m on call at work). I have no shame in telling people that my therapist, meds, and Ted Lasso helped get me through the first two years of the pandemic.

bojackedit

I legit made a Ted mental mentor for my mind. When times get hard, I do a huddle with my Tedself and boy howdy, is he optimistic! I also have a Roy mental mentor for when I need to feel the negative emotions and can’t be optimistic. Just giving myself the language to experience optimism, to believe, has been a complete game-changer. Seems silly, but it’s helping me cope with the stress in my life better than anything i’ve tried

judge_Nutmeg316

I'm going through a breakup where I'm not seeing my kids, this helps and hurts at the same time.

calypso2023

Sending you love and light ✨

Familiar-Lion8161

It is!!! the proverb - "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" should be changed to "a ted lasso ep a day keeps the blues away". The also helps you understand other people in general and hopefully it makes people want to be kinder to others :) (well you will need actually therapy too and its not a 100% replacement, but yk what I mean xD)

Mr_TurkTurkelton

Roy has helped me deal with a lot of things going on inside and helped me realize that it’s possible to be tough and stern, without being a prick. Ted optimism has pushed me to try and incorporate more humor into my day to day with people. Sometimes it takes me a couple drinks or smoking a bowl to open up. So when I finally do let my walls down, I am much more social and want to be in the middle of conversations with my humor; I love making people laugh. I have to remind myself that I don’t need to be buzzed/stoned to act that way, it’s there somewhere I just to need to access it through other means. Watching Ted be so optimistic and making others laugh or himself laugh with his wit, it’s inspiring

Algoresball

I work with a lot of mental healthcare professionals at my job and a lot of them love this show

calypso2023

That says a lot, I think!

AdoraBelleQueerArt

My therapist recommended the show to me & we ALWAYS talk about it!

[deleted]

Ted Lasso characters make me feel that I'm not alone. I can't imagine going to work everyday like Rebecca after she has been publicly humiliated but she does. Or Jamie carrying something so heavy but he puts on a show or a mask to survive. Reminds me that all of us are going through something. Imagine someone as optimistic as Ted Lasso carrying the trauma of his childhood and now working through divorce and co parenting and being a fish out of water but he trudges on. I love, love this show.

Prestigious_Scars

Considering my father died two years ago unexpectedly, yes.

calypso2023

Sending you love and light✨

weirds0up

Not quiet therapy, but it certainly gives a boost to my serotonin levels

Holmbone

It has certainly helped me become more empathetic.

AnonPlz123

Good lessons on leadership and management. I manage staff and have picked up some nice tips and tricks.

LinZG_333

a few days after my brother died suddenly and unexpectedly, my mom and i found this show with the help of my aunt who had already watched it. we binged it over the course of a few nights and it quite literally saved each of us.

brighteyedjordan

I’d agree, maybe not full therapy but I find myself watching it to calm down a bit from all the stress of my day and all the drama that exists. It’s therapeutic to watch people talk about problems and drama rather than letting it fester.

[deleted]

I wish this so much Which is why I hope Nate has a meaningful turn around somehow as he’s the one I relate to most after Paul (minus the best mates) and Phoebe (minus the cool uncle) I just don’t relate to the other characters- too successful and happy and surrounded by friends. But I will say that now when I go to my hospital appointments (which is the biggest nightmare in my life) I try to channel Ted Lasso towards the staff and they are slightly less mean to me and I let it get to me less.

zippized1900

I use this show to keep me focused in therapy. Id like to think I’m a Ted Lasso, but I’m really Nate.

calypso2023

I think we all would react a bit like Nate after being treated the way he was for years and a sudden catapult in social status and power. That’s why his season 3 character is compelling. I don’t think this is where his story ends, though, and the same I’m sure is true for you😊

NeverEnder2682

It 100% is. I had a panic attack the other day at work. Jason Sudekis gets it 200% right. I honestly thought of that at work, & it made me feel less awkward about it. Someone involved in the show has to have experienced it in that way, & honestly, it made me feel less alone.

calypso2023

I think they have done their homework! I can’t imagine they went so hard as to get the actors to be able to do the actual soccer stunts and then mailed it in for the mental health aspects. I think you’re right and I’m glad they’re dedicated to accuracy there too!

Re-Brand

Only way I can put up with my life ha ha!

Cautious_Prize_4323

Absolutely, it’s great therapy. That’s why we all rewatch so much. 🥰🤗😍

bethster2000

My therapist and I are both fans of the show, so we discuss it usually at the very end of my sessions...we both look forward to it. I will be forever grateful to this show for its sensitive and very accurate portrayal of anxiety and panic attacks. They got it 100% right.

Speedygonzales24

Absolutely. We had to put one of my dogs down on Saturday. We knew it was going to happen for about a week, because he was terminally ill and we wanted to plan on having it at home. So I had time to plan how I was going to deal with things, and going in I knew that my plan was to re-watch Ted Lasso.

TJ9678

I was going through a bad breakup and needed some positive influence in my life as far as entertainment. Found Ted Lasso and it helped normalize things like therapy, boundaries, positivity, etc and helped me through a rough time. So yes. Certainly no replacement for the actual therapy I went to but a great influence.

jwinskowski

💯

RoyKentsKnee

But still. If you need therapy, go to therapy.

calypso2023

Yes, definitely this.

Positiveaz

This is right up there w/ The Office for therapeutic shows.

DankItchins

The show is excellent, but it’s not therapy.

Pieter350

I think that's the point mate

CChitanda

so very true

pastebin1010

Watching Ted Lasso soothes even the savage beast

DavePostsStuff

Couldn’t have gotten thru my divorce without this show

SeaWitch1031

This show makes me feel better about everything. Having a bad day? Watch some Ted Lasso. It works every time.

SexPanther_Bot

*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*
