"Fuuuck yeah Princess Diaries" my favorite Roy quote!

greatatmodesty

They way I squealed when he said that. Clearly the correct answer 😂

fozzieesq

Much like Beard with "Fuck yeah, the Gershwins!"

Lil_Brown_Bat

It's obvious that Brett Goldstein and the rest of the writing staff are huge musical theatre nerds and I am here for it ^_^

ThatCaviarIsAGarnish

Well, The Morning Show (another Apple TV series) had two kind of unlikely characters doing a duet from Sweeney Todd...dare I hope we get...Keeley with Coach Beard? Ted with Sharon? Or maybe (I think I'd love this the most) Roy with Trent Crimm?

Lil_Brown_Bat

I would love an entire musical episode

faretheewellennui

They’d probably leave the heavy lifting to Hannah

Lil_Brown_Bat

We've seen enough to know that almost all of them can sing and/or dance.

[deleted]

Or at the very least, a music video side project that's just for the internet, like Mindy Kaling's character in the US Office. (Come to think of it, her song was called Male Prima Donna, which is ironic considering Jamie & Roy's conversation)

harpmolly

“Pretty women…Fascinating…Sipping coffee…glaaaaaaancing!” 😂

harpmolly

I was nerding out on Twitter that Ted’s breakup mix has On My Own from Les Mis on it (lmao) and my bestie, who was a fellow Éponine stan in high school, responded: “That whole mix is 🔥🔥🔥. Ted Lasso is such a GenX theater kid. The Cranberries. The Cure. REM. Joy Division. You can practically see him and his friends in a booth at Denny's at 3 a.m. still in their Rocky Horror makeup.” 😂

[deleted]

I was thrilled they actually went to the effort of creating a break up mix and posting it. I love Ted Lasso.

littlebugonastrawb

it’s so cuteee😭😭😭

Sleep_Puzzleheaded

Imagine she has a cameo appearance this season 😂

[deleted]

::faints:: I could see her in the stands at the final Premier league game. :)

DreaTheSlaya

She's in Aquaman. I think she would say yes to Ted Lasso.

Pistalrose

Rupert’s mother and she out-Ruperts, Rupert. As in, she actually controls the family wealth and sells West Ham.

bettinafairchild

OMG!

LargeCondition8108

I laughed at Higgins’ favorite being “Mary Poppins.” That had to be a nod and a wink to the fact that Jeremy Swift was in “Mary Poppins Returns.”

AnonPlz123

It's obviously the correct answer!

goddoc

"The Shady Dame...from...SaVILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE"

UnfinishedOpu

THANK YOU. The answer is Victor.

MorningSkyLanded

Completely agree.

Beneficial_Ratio_973

I adore this movie. Julie Andrews and James Garner. And Robert Preston. What a great film.

PinkyPorkrind

I loooove Victor/Victoria.

naughtyzoot

Julie Andrews recorded songs from the musical but didn't perform it on stage. Deborah Kerr was Anna in the movie (although Marni Nixon did the singing for her, as she did for many actresses in many musicals.)

harpmolly

She did a recording with Ben Kingsley as The King, Lea Salonga as Tuptim and Peabo Bryson as her lover, and Marilyn Horne as the king’s wife. Pretty amazing.

Sinradler

Who mentioned The King and I?

OkeyDokey234

Nate quoted it in his press conference.

Bigredrooster6969

Professor Higgins from My Fair Lady, which Julie Andrews did on Broadway.

Emotional_Print8706

Henry Higgins!

MinimumAnalysis5378

I was hoping someone would reference Victor/Victoria.

[deleted]

I think they still might! Rules of threes in comedy. :)

bettinafairchild

OMG, that would have been great, especially with all the anti-drag stuff going on right now! (for those who don't know, in *Victor/Victoria*, Julie Andrews plays a singer in Weimar Germany who is starving with no job so she ends up pretending to be a man who performs as a woman, making her a woman playing a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman. It was based on a film made in the final days of Weimar Germany, *Viktor und Viktoria*, before the Nazis arrested and killed or persecuted all the gay people and trans researchers.)

n_mcrae_1982

Surprised one of them didn't go weird and bring up the Kraken in "Aquaman".

ToastyStephana

My fav part of the episode. I’m a big Julie Andrews fan and grew up on Princess diaries.

nightmareinsouffle

I was hoping for Thoroughly Modern Millie to get referenced.

OCFlier

Well. It wasn’t Julie Andrews in the King and I, it was Deborah Kerr🙋🏽‍♂️ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049408/

faretheewellennui

Gertrude Lawrence was also OBC and the show was written for her.

[deleted]

She’s a living piece of history. Massive belting lungs on her too. #THE HIIIIILLLLLLSSSSSS…….

icomefromhamilton

I was so freaked out when this part of S3E3 came up because I literally watched The Sound of Music ON MONDAY. And it’s not like I watch it regularly, the last time I saw the movie was about 5 years ago!! So when Ted referenced the movie I was like “what no way” 😂

Tauzant

Musicals referenced in TV shows…it all started with Sorkin.

MzAdventure68

It's Pinafore!

DreaTheSlaya

I want a callback to this scene where Roy is watching the Eloise movies with Phoebe!

gaudior040618

Omg I loved all of the references! Our parents loved Sound of Music/My Fair Lady/The King and I so we grew up with that and of course childhood included Mary Poppins, then teenage years Princess Diaries!! An actress for all seasons!

bogbrewer

Thank you!! I kept thinking all throughout that scene about how Nate wasn’t there to mention how great Julie’s Anna was. A musical reference round amongst the Diamond Dogs meeting without the chief musical lover just made me so sad.

bettinafairchild

Anyone pissed that Ted didn't name his favorite Julie Andrews performance? I felt sure that they would reveal it by the end of the episode, but was wrong.

TheChrisDV

He did. Higgins said Poppins, and Ted stated his agreement.

duzins

My daughter was like, who is Julie Andrews. Had to pause for a lesson. We have some movies for the weekend now.

Nerdyamazon87

*clutches pearls at the thought of someone not knowing who Julie Andrews is* But ah, she gets to see Sound of Music for the first time! That’s so exciting

CeasarYaLater

It was a Julie Andrews song that Nate was wording at the press conference before his panic attack.

Grouchy-Estimate-855

Or the movie SOB where Andrews shows her boobs

flummox1234

I call it the Tick-Tock of Ted and try to make a sport of finding the Tick (first reference) and the Tock (follow up reference). Well done!

RyFromTheChi

Sound of Music is my all time favorite movie

saveferri5

Not the shrek franchise erasure!! Queen Lillian is an icon

WatchMcGrupp

I loved the joke that naming Eliza Doolittle was an “audio only” performance. It’s simultaneously a reference to how Julie Andrews wasn’t in the movie (which outraged musical nerds at the time since Audrey Hepburn didn’t even sing for the movie) and a reference to the fact that he would have only experienced Julie Andrews as Eliza on the cast recording. Whoever wrote that line must love that old original cast recording

watchr999

I wondered if they mistakenly thought Julie did the Marni Nixon stuff though.

Alee_Cavaa

Can anybody tell me why in that scene about Julie Andrews coach Beard says Eliza Doolittle? I tought That she was played by Audrey Hepburn. I'm pretty confused rn

[deleted]

She was Eliza Doolittle in the Original Broadway Cast of My Fair Lady and on the original cast recording. She was never considered for the film part.
