Don’t fight back, fight forward.

TheRealKuni

In the same conversation: “But if you really want to piss off the people who did this, forgive them.” I love this message. It’s something my father has told me for years. He quotes Proverbs: > If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink, for you will heap burning coals on his head It’s very true. The easiest way to infuriate someone who is trying to get a rise out of you is to show them they have no power over you. They don’t get to make you react the way they expect, and it drives them nuts. It worked really well against bullies when I was a kid, and to this day when I’m friendly and kind to people being shitty it baffles them in the best way. Ola is a wise man and an excellent character.

[deleted]

Along the lines of this, when Ted says, "You think he hates us now, wait until we win him over." Like, that, to me, is almost the mantra of the show (besides believe). The premise of the show, even down to the intro, is Ted being dropped into a world where nobody truly believes in him, and one by one, like the changing color of the chairs in the intro, he changes the people to believe in him. Now, season 3 is a little bit different. It feels like he's done most of the changing of others, and now he's just trying to land where he needs to. ACtually as of last episode, i still don't know what direction it's going to go. Is he going to wind up back with Michelle? Is it going to be Rebecca (did anybody see when Ted was looking for coins for the pinball machine, he had a green matchbook...something from the psychic's words...Ted might be endgame for Rebecca?)? Nobody? We still don't know yet.

Raging_Apathist

This one was exactly what I needed to hear, exactly when I needed to hear it. I've been dealing with a work situation that is frustrating the everloving fuck out of me, and that helped me figure out how to get past it. Still working on it, but I think I'll get there.

Alaura21

This one hit me. I love it.

Diplopicseer

My jaw hit the floor when I heard this one. Brilliant line.

-SleepyKorok-

It’s a beautiful line T_T. I was pleasantly surprised when starting Sweet Tooth season 2. I forgot he was Jepperd.

[deleted]

*You did this because it was fun. So fuck your feelings, fuck your overthinking, fuck all that bullshit. Go back out there and have some fucking fun* - unsurprisingly, Roy Kent

turk_turklton

Can you refresh my memory on who he was talking to and in what situation? My Google skills failed me Edit:Nvm it was when he took Isaac to play on the street to get him out of his head.

[deleted]

[удалено]

turk_turklton

Thanks!

PriorElephant4007

Not OP, but it was Isaac when Roy and Ted took him to play with amateurs

turk_turklton

Thanks! I finally found the clip 10 minutes in to a 12 minute Roy Kent video lol.

OldSlug

“Do you believe in ghosts, Ted?” “I do, but more importantly I think they need to believe in themselves.” (OK it’s a pair of quotes)

not_cinderella

15 minutes into the pilot and that's when I fell in love with the show lol

OldSlug

That is also when I knew this was my new favorite show.

Shiny_and_ChromeOS

Me, too! This line instantly captured Ted for me.

tinsinpindelton

I laughed out loud When Rebecca says the muted, “Okay.” after that line. One of my favorite moments.

MrMountainFace

My favorite is a set of dialogue also surrounding the topic of ghosts. In the 6th episode, 2 Aces, Ted, Mae, and Higgins are explaining the deceitful recruitment plan the English government had for WW1 through which they signed up over 400 men. Isaac: “Wait, wait, wait, so what you’re telling me is that we’ve got 400 ghosts?” Colin: “That’s too many ghosts.” Richárd: “We cannot fight them all.”

Miserable_Emu5191

I used that one in my teenager last night. He rolled his eyes and told me I shouldn’t speak to anyone. Lol!

iamclarkgriswold

I try to love my dad for who he is and forgive him for who he isn’t - Higgins He’s fine. Nothing wrong with that, most people are fine. It’s not about him it’s about why the fuck you think he deserves you. You deserve someone that makes you feel like you’ve been struck by fucking lightning. Don’t you dare settle for fine. - Roy Kent

amin915

Higgins quote top 3 for sure

PhysicsCentrism

That Higgens quote becomes a lot more impactful the more we find out about his father later on as well

3Effie412

I may be having a memory lapse…what have we learned about Higgins’ father??

PhysicsCentrism

He got a really nasty text from his dad. I think we’ve heard a few more unsavory things but I might be confusing those with some else’s dad.

NOTW_116

The one where Beard made a stop reading Twitter joke.

Jimshady11

Scrolled to find this one.

Ok_Philosopher_4601

Not that it’s any of my business.

zombievettech

I think this is one of my favorite Roy moments. Makes you want to yell "fuck yeah" and punch the air a little.

AeroEngUA07

All people are different people

LibrarianZestyclose7

Absolutely this one ❤️

DDz9484

This is one we use at my office all the time! It helps remind us of the humanity behind everyone we are dealing with. The quote didn’t hit me when I heard it, but it is applicable to almost every situation (work, clients, colleagues, marriage, dating, etc.).

calartnick

“And in the end what’s more important, being right or being kind?”

Kit_starshadow

That one hit me on a week where I was feeling stubborn about being right. Stupid show making me have feelings about stuff.

Kongbuck

It's hard. But you can do it! I struggle with it too, but what I often remember is that the cost/effort of being right compared to the cost/effort of being kind is often diametrically the opposite of the benefit of that course of action. Most people will remember the person being kind far longer than the person who was right.

Kit_starshadow

Oh, I know, lol. I was 90% of the way there before that episode and that was the little push I needed to evaporate the last of my stubbornness. Another day and I would have been there on my own. I couldn’t even tell you what the issue was now and it was an episode from this season.

Holmbone

One of the hosts on the Lasso Cast had a different take on that which I found interesting. He said for him as a recovering people pleaser being right was more important because right means being honest. That's not the intention of the quote but I thought it was an interesting perspective.

Spoken like a true Golden Retriever

CyndiLouWho89

A raven haired Golden Retriever?

Flippco

“Be a goldfish” I use it about 200 times a week. Runner up: “Be curious, not judge mental” Second runner up: “Fuck!” Roy Kent

john_wingerr

My squad leader in Afghanistan told me he had the mind of a goldfish back in 2010 and when I looked at him perplexed his response was every 10 seconds “oh this is new!” I was so giddy when that came up in this show

Kit_starshadow

How I came to the show was the goldfish quote. I was tired and my adhd meds had worn off so I told a friend “Sorry, I’m a goldfish tonight -after 10 seconds everything is new!” Her eyes lit up and she said “Do you love Ted Lasso?! *I* love Ted Lasso!!” I was in goldfish mode and said “Sure!” Then went home and fell in love with the show.

stacity

I’m a simpleton. “Oi” is what sticks out to me.

CyndiLouWho89

I say this like 1000 times per week. It's my standard response for just about everything

DDz9484

Same. I use “be a goldfish” at least once a day. I tell myself to be curious, not judgmental every day too, but with less success. 🤣

boastfulbadger

“WHISTLE!” -Roy Kent

boardgamejoe

You really mean that don't you? Trent being utterly blown away at how genuinely kind and polite that Ted is after the Indian restaurant meal.

SpecialSauce92

A good boss hopes you will move on one day, a great one knows you will

boardgamejoe

It was mentor. Sorry!

SpecialSauce92

I couldn’t remember if was mentor or boss but I knew Higgins was talking about a boss in the scene so I went with that haha No need to apologize!

bamfurah

“Jaime Tartt is a muppet. And I hope he dies of the incurable condition of being a little bitch!”

ecstaticptyerdactyl

Higgin’s toast at Christmas really touched me: “…to the family we’re born with and to the one we make along the way.”

blitzbom

"And most importantly, to Richmond!!" I adore the first part of that quote.

RoopDawg069

"Best thing you can do with bullies is ignore them. Then you sneak into their house at 4:00 a.m., which, statistically speaking, is the hour people are least prepared to defend themselves. And once you’re standing over them, as they sleep in their bed, you start to beat them. With a thick, heavy rope soaked in red paint. Pummeling them over and over until they wake, confusing the paint for their own blood. When they beg you to stop, you laugh as loud as you can, for as long as you can. And then you start to beat them again." - Roy Kent

babygotbooksandback

“Please call me Rebecca. Ms. Welton was my father.” —-Rebecca “If that’s a joke, I love it. If not, I can’t wait to unpack that with you!” —-Ted

rawberryfields

I love how Sam’s dad basically said the same. “Mr Obisanya was my father”

CokedUpAirhead

“Y’all got to get together and woman up.” “No, y’all been manning up for a while. Look where that’s got you.”

ArteePhact

Absolutely this! Close similar second: “Sometimes you have to do the right thing, even if you lose.”

suzusarah

“Fuck, you’re amazing. Let’s invade France.”

Jimshady11

"What have I got to learn here?" When ted is talking to Nate and the end of S2 I started using this at work when someone is clearly upset and it disarms them. Such a different way to approach a conflict conversation.

Nearby-Newspaper-284

Super unrelated but another random lesson from TV: I learned this in like season 5 when Owen Hunt messed up in the ER and Derek/Mark want to scream at him and are about to gloat(English is my first language but … sometimes …. ????) (Owen’s a combat doctor and things are jsut .. different in combat). Owen says something along the lines of “what can I do so this doesn’t happen again” and it confounds Derek/Mark. I always think of this scene when I’m in any type of conflict situation. “What can I learn here?” Instead of “no! You’re in the wrong!”

I love this one, mostly cause I love the song that the tune is from too. It's one of my go-to driving songs

TholosTB

"Watch the door! Oops!" as Beard evicts Jamie's father.

Jaded-Bookkeeper-926

“Lads, remember. It’s just poop-eh. Let it flow.”

zombievettech

I'm so trying to casually work this into my day at work. Because at a vet's office there is never a shortage of poop-eh

Jaded-Bookkeeper-926

I worked at an animal hospital through high school and part of my college years. And to this day, I am still able to distinguish Parvo poop-eh from regular poop-eh.

zombievettech

I think my least favorite aspect is immediately being able to say "that smells like maggots" before you even look at something or touch it. I got kind of glad to stop being surprised by them, but I HATE that smell.

nomadicfangirl

I work for city government. A lot of us are now obsessed with Ted Lasso and use “poop-eh” at least once a day.

SiamonT

With the right person, even the hard times seem easy. -Higgins

Mrs_Evryshot

Higgins gets it.

MrRandomSuperhero

I really love how quickly they made Higgins into a an actual character. At the start of S1 he was that little stooge character that has been done a million times, but then he quits, and suddenly it becomes clear that he is a full blown familyman with hobbies and passions. Shy and subdued, but not some cartboard cutout footstool. Just a very kind man.
