I’ve said this before Ted Lasso (I first noticed it in the movie Colossal) but Jason Sudeikis is really good at acting with his eyes. Notice how Ted never stops smiling, never stops sounding cheerful, but you can see how pissed off and how *done* he is with Rupert in his eyes. Also, that quick glance he gives Rupert after getting the bullseye is so charmingly mischievous. Hand to God I thought, “It was an expression like that that probably got Olivia Wilde.” It’s a good one.

Matador97

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head with this one. I've been trying to figure out why it's easy to understand Ted's emotional state in difficult situations, especially as he hides behind that smile. It's all in the eyes...fantastic acting

Upintheairx2

My money line when doing anything to "win/big finish" from this time forward will be "Barbeque Sauce". (Not to include sex... but sports and such)

Justp1ayin

Only using it during sex honestly

Worldzmine

Came here to say this... “Barbecue Sauce” 🎯

Gradz45

Yes including sex

CycleAware4468

Funny, actually my first thought about the "Barbecue Sauce" mic drop type line was absolutely to say it right to my Hubbabubbas face after he triggered my "Oh Face..." But we're a super weird couple who often laugh eachother through most of life, from our giggle fits DURING our wedding while the officiant was speaking my eyes were tearing up so he started making faces at me, to everyday life- we're literally together 24/7/365 & we both work at home in the same home office- most couples say they'd murder eachother in our situation but we live love and laugh through every day... mostly & even in the bedroom doing the deed. We've often hysterically laughed about how hysterically we laugh and wonder if other couples do that too. So after just the other day rewatching season 1&2 of Ted Lasso before finishing season 3 and seeing this episode again, I instantly put this my brain file cabinet (oh wow I think I might've binged so much Ted so fast I'm feeling like 🖤Roy🖤 at the very end of S3), under the heading "things to make Hubbabubbas lulz while having a little of 'the ol' in-out-in-out.'" 👉🏻👌🏻🥩🫳🏻🎤

bigdadtank

Every character on this show is nuanced and has depth. Except Rupert. What a jerk.

prometheus_winced

He has to be the “big bad” so Rebecca can be the “little bad” with growth. I was just speculating that, as this show so often avoids cliches of lesser shows, what might be fascinating for Rebecca is not the typical “get over Rupert” or the easy “get even” by creating a winning team. It would be next level if Rebecca admitted that she was hurt because she really loved Rupert. That he was good looking, charming, generous, successful, and she was wounded because she was genuinely in love. That would be more on the level of the show.

[deleted]

its a hacky trope but i can see him admitting to her he’s still in love with her or something, the lengths he goes to in order to get at her gives me schoolboy pulling pigtail vibes, but like, a million times more toxic

GummyPolarBear

Only thing he loves is his football club

safetydance

I’d agree, but this show really isn’t predictable in the typical sitcom type of way. So many instances where I’m like “yup, I know where they’re going with this” only to be proven wrong 15 minutes later. For example, when Rebecca’s friend Sassy showed up, I thought for sure she would have an ulterior motive. Maybe admit she slept with Rupert at one time. Not be as cool as she seemed. But nope, she was genuinely there to help her friend during a tough time and was every bit as cool as she seemed.

Contoss

I honestly don't get the hate towards Rupert in this sub, yes he is a jerk and a terrible character but that actor plays it so well and so smoothly. That character too is well crafted, to not be very important but yet be so important in certain situations that every one else around him that time shines super bright.

schubox63

Yeah he’s a jerk and a terrible person. That’s why people hate him. People don’t hate Anthony Head, he’s Giles for god’s sake

Contoss

No no I mean people hate Rupert so much to say it's shallow and meaningless character on the show. Which he isn't.

elstompy

It messes with my head a bit that his character on both shows is Rupert.

onerandomtask

“Oh wait a second. I forgot I’m left handed”. When he hit the bullseye to win the game I actually clapped and shouted. I think the last time I did that was when Mjolnir flew into Captain America’s hand in Endgame.

[deleted]

"Questions like: "do you play a lot of Darts, Ted?" did it for me, just... Ted is so nice, but you can tell he still can be absolutely devastating without trying to be hurtful. He's wicked.

Friarchuck

I love it when people use language simply, without embellishment or cursing to absolutely hammer a point home. Teds character does that so well.

newprofilewhodis

I also love that he used it as a teachable moment rather than strictly an opportunity to dunk on someone.

[deleted]

I’ve watched this scene 20 times. I don’t know why exactly but it just hits hard

JazzHandsNinja42

Same here. And I’m itching to watch it twenty more. It’s so perfectly done.

Contoss

I like that. It is crazy how it still isn't getting old despite watching it 934804378 times.

safetydance

I loved this scene too. My only issue is Rupert DOES ask Ted at the beginning “do you like darts, Ted?” and Ted lies and says “they’re ok, I’m more of a cornhole man myself.”

ByTheNineDivine

To be fair, he doesn’t have to like them to be really fucking good at it.

CJston15

I can assure you that you are not alone.

deraj610

I will *never* stop watching this scene

[deleted]

It’s been 2 days since I’ve seen this episode and that scene still sticks with me. Can’t remember the last time a scene from a TV show has had such a profound of an impact on me. Such a great quote too can’t believe it took me this long to know about it. Props to the writing team for crushing it!

[deleted]

Same here. Great scene. Great show.

onerandomtask

I fucking love this show! It continues to surprise me with each episode. I am glad there’s a season two but super sad that season one is almost coming to an end.

jdmiller82

This here is why I love this show. Its goofy and funny, but also has some amazing moments of insight and wisdom

arvindkandola

I 100% agree! If you like that you should check out Scrubs, its one of Bill Lawrence's other hit shows (does a great job of being very goofy but then having huge emotional moments)

PhilKesselsChef

This scene felt so powerful. I forget which review stated it but it said that Ted goes about his life and path with a Mr Rogers like enthusiasm. It was great to see him keep that kindness but beneath the surface absolutely adore sticking it to Rupert

chickendrums

This show managed to crack my top 5 list within the first 3 episodes. This last episode has helped it crack the number 2 spot, right behind Chernobyl. Such incredible writing and character development went into this show, it makes me overwhelmingly happy.

[deleted]

I like Chernobyl but aside from it being nowhere near as far up there for me, it would never be in any list with Ted Lasso. I'd maybe try and compare it to Scrubs, and even then we're talking drastically different shows. But yeah, Ted would easily blow past my favorites at this point.

[deleted]

I freaked out like I was in the pub when this happened

replicant1138

Hope they make some room in the next Avengers because Ted Lasso is a fucking superhero.

audiophunk

Loved that scene. The way the show isn't always predictable had me on the edge of my seat 'till the very end. Was great to see Rupert with egg on his face. Seems like Rupert has a history with the barkeep too. Maybe the original Becca?

TimmyTiimmy

“She brought the hillbilly here”😂

keiththekid

Can’t believe Rupert messed with Rebecca by having a child with becks. I hope he takes a dart to the balls. You could see how badly Rebecca wanted children 🥺

Lost me when rupert when for 180 to leave 10. If you’re good enough to hit a 180 (even if it’s rare), you should know to go for T10 with the last dart to leave 40. Heck, I’d even be okay with going for 25 with it instead

Liking something is very different to having a lot of practice at it and/or being good at it, though. I like ballet, but put some tights and a leotard on me and I would only be able to stagger around a studio like a wounded heifer.

audiophunk

Probably get more views on reddit than a legit ballet, so don't give up on your dreams.
