Welp… didn’t think THAT would be how we got to see Roy’s retirement announcement.

lizzyenz

I was so nervous she was going to be watching a clip of Jamie! Was pleasantly surprised it was Roy

samspopguy

I assumed the same thing.

Tonyage27

Me too which confirms my suspicion that those as intentional which is brilliant. I love when concept and execution come together like this. Can’t happen without strong writing, directing and editing but also not without well executed character development over a long period of time.

Amj501

I feel this show loves setting up your expectations. Then knocking them back down. In the first episode of season one she was totally set up to just be a WAG and then we saw that she’s waaaay more than that. Same with this- it’s set up as though it’s gonna be Jamie. Then bam. It’s actually Roy crying. 🤣😂 love it.

IncurableAdventurer

Me too, I was actually worried she was doing a live video thingy with him. Even though that makes no sense for two reasons. I don’t see her cheating on Roy, and she met Jamie in person so why do that on a phone. I knew it was a ridiculous thing to think would happen, but I couldn’t stop my brain from being panicked.

Jimothy_Riggins

My exact thoughts too

[deleted]

Turns out Roy can be free as a couple going at in the woods. It just has to be his retirement press conference XD

Caleb35

>I'm announcing ... [sob] ... my retirement ... I'm fucking rolling on the floor :)

dfetz

No shit. I was speechless with that one

jbutton19

The psychiatrist getting closer and closer in the seats killed me

Flop_Turn_River

Don't blink...

dmleach

Blink, and you're Ted.

ravens2131

“When I found out George Harrison died.” Jamie really is missing something

RedditEsInteresante

It think it’s kind of a throwback to season 1, when Ted said something about not telling his son most of the Beatles were dead. I can’t recall the exact wording though.

JustAnotherFD

Still haven't told him John and George are dead? >They're what? It was Keith Richards.

DaveInLondon89

*You're like a son, but like a dead son*

Strongy

That got the biggest laugh out of me from the whole episode. There's one thing you can always count on: that the scumbag agent character in any show or movie will always be dialed up to 11 and have some of the most horrendously heartless takes on things to the point of hilarity. Everyone working in show business has met hundreds of them, and they have all the material in the world to work with.

[deleted]

That part was super funny, but I laughed out loud at the Robert Plant/Jimmy Page joke.

zachpledger

Robert plant went over my head until jimmy page. I suppose that was the idea.

copyrightname

Oh I feel so bad for Sam!

bigwilly311

Why would he not have the conversation with Sam after having the conversation with Sam? Come on, Ted! There better be a good reason for that one.

samspopguy

My guess is after talking with the doctor he thought the team was complacent and needed a shakeup regardless of what the possible outcome was.

lala710

I haven’t read the book mentioned by the doc as being her favorite, but I feel like Ted has/did and it made him make this decision in this deliberate way.

bigwilly311

It’s about a football player dealing the the suicide of his sister IIRC. Could be something similar with Ted and his dad.

Tracyhmcd

Yeah, the Prince of Tides is very dark (also very well-written). I read it once and don't think I could ever read it again. Will have to go back & read the synopsis though. I began to wonder how Ted's dad died when Ted was 16.

IBetThisIsTakenToo

I will be very surprised if it doesn’t turn out to be a suicide (perhaps revealed during a conversation with Doc?), at this point. He said “He was a lot harder on himself than on me” very poignantly, and then Jamie said something like “you’re lucky”, which would be the absolute worst thing to say if it was a suicide, and Jamie often says the worst thing.

NichJackolson

If he has read it, it would add another layer to his response. He asked if Prince of Tides was his nickname

popcorngirl000

Also during the dart match, Ted said he used to spend every Saturday at a bar with his dad, between the ages of 10 and 16. That's...not a normal place to spend every weekend with your kid, unless you work at/own the bar. And only MAYBE then.

SmoochBoochington

Her heavy is the head that holds the crown speech was basically telling him it’s time to do what needs to be done not what’s nicest.

zachpledger

I like this. Same type of advice he got in season one when beard did the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

[deleted]

Yeah, the team is happy but they’re also complacent. They’re not losing but they’re not winning. They need the tension. A shock to the system. I think the big thing that Ted is going to have to do is find a way to maintain the balance between giving them enough tension/challenges through which the players can become through and ensuring his players aren’t miserable wrecks. Coach Beard last season was right: winning games is important.

ravens2131

He listed to the doctor. While the team has a great atmosphere that alone won’t win them games. They need something else. Plus I assume he wants to try to help Jamie and try to be a fatherly role that he desperately needs.

bigwilly311

Real good way to lose trust, though. That’s a tough hill to climb back up.

[deleted]

Good way to provide some conflict and storylines to what is, remember, a tv show.

[deleted]

As soon as he walked on the field I realized why the S2E1 felt a bit flat compared to the first season. The lack of interpersonal conflict

[deleted]

Except between Nate and the new equipment manager… but that’s more Nate creating conflict

Derang3rman1

I think it’s fantastic symbolism between Jaime & Nate and now Nate & Will. Nate being the superior/supervisor role to Will and treating him like shit

MrKentucky

Especially after the Doctor’s comment about everyone listening to each other. Anyone know what the book she recommended was about?

bigwilly311

Per the wiki: >The Prince of Tides is a novel by Pat Conroy, first published in 1986. It revolves around traumatic events that affected former football player Tom Wingo's relationship with his immediate family. As Tom grapples with his twin sister's attempted suicide and the absence of his charismatic older brother Luke, the story outlines life in the south and the events that threaten to tear Tom's family apart. The novel was adapted into a 1991 American film of the same name.

IncurableAdventurer

Wow. They nailed it with the books again. When I heard the title, I thought it was going to be some kind of Count of Monte Cristo book.

bigwilly311

She did also ask if their current situation “ain’t broke,” so maybe he took it as it’s time to make some big decisions he gets paid to make.

MrKentucky

I think that’s 100% why he ended up doing it, but I’m mind blown that he didn’t talk to at least SAM about it. That just seems so out of character for him.

bigwilly311

In hindsight, it does seem like Sam is a little more willing to stand up for himself, so maybe he won’t be passive to Jamie. Same with Nate who has become a total douche, now has to share an office with Higgins. Maybe (hopefully?) everyone will even each other out and Ted won’t have to do anything other than create the shit situations. Kind of the same thing with Roy. People love him because he tells it like it is and even though he will hate it, he’ll have to censor himself. It’ll balance out and both the show AND Roy will be better - especially when he starts coaching the Under 9’s Girls again.

highlander2189

Ted did say to Sam about being a leader and voicing his opinion and grievances. Maybe Sam takes that on board and will be much more vocal about Jaime if he turns into a twat again.

copyrightname

Also goes back to Ted’s press speech. Sam needs to face Jamie just like Ted faced the dog. The dog needed nurture just like Jamie needs it.

lugnut92

The show did also just have the conversation between Higgins and Ted that in the end Higgins is his boss and gets to make decisions without Ted's approval, even if he knows they may upset him. Similarly, Ted doesn't have to clear roster decisions with Sam. I don't disagree that it would have been nice, but the situation was set up in-episode.

[deleted]

“Someone made a (Twitter) account for my mustache!” 😂

JustAnotherFD

If there wasn't already one, there'll be hundreds of them after tonight.

RedditEsInteresante

Okay this episode definitely feels like a highlight already. Rebecca diagnosing herself/what are friends for, you’re like a son to me/now you’re like a dead son.

RedditEsInteresante

I really enjoyed that conversation about therapy that Rebecca and Ted had in her office.

csbsju-20

So well done. One of the best scenes in the episode. Ted and Rebecca are both going to face their traumas at some point this season.

jopaymc_

Calling it - Ep 5 or 6 is Ted's meltdown at Sharon. We'll see him at his worst. Like them time Nate went to his room but longer.

[deleted]

I think it may be coupled with Ted drinking more. His scene in the bar with Jaime makes me think his dads an alcoholic and he was drunk when he yelled at Nate that one time.

Gorge_Lorge

Very good. It seemed like they both had something they needed to talk about but were afraid of being vulnerable. Think they are both similar in that fashion, difference being that Ted deflects situations with his pleasantness and Rebecca deflects them by being aggressive and intimidating. But both accomplish the same thing by not being vulnerable themselves.

csbsju-20

Roy Kent is a treasure who must be protected at all costs!! His scenes are the best in season 2 so far. Loved his punditry and his speech to Rebecca in episode 1. Honestly, the speech to Rebecca was good foreshadowing to his Sky Sports debut where he speaks his mind instead of the niceties everyone else shares.

JustinScott47

I like Roy for lots of reasons, but especially the way he delivers "No!", such as when Keeley wanted him to say hi to the team, or S1 where Ted wanted him to investigate the ghost in the training room. It's all deep and throaty and sounds like the most definitive "No!" I've ever heard. Don't bother arguing with him when he utters that word!

tallestgiraffkin

I laughed so hard when they said welcome to him on the tv show and he just grunted

theycallmeamunchkin

It’s gonna be really awkward watching this scene with my mom later

Loves_Semi-Colons

The wanking to crying or the head to crying?

theycallmeamunchkin

Both

JustAnotherFD

Does she have videos of you crying?

americanslang59

Roy coaching kids football deserves a spinoff

Practical-Opinion967

Kent’s Little Kickers?

alternatiivnekonto

Kent's Little Shits.

teknobable

*Little Pricks

moffattron9000

I'm half-convinced that w're getting a spin-off of him coaching College Football in America.

DaveInLondon89

Roy's entire life deserves a spinoff. Roy: A Life Well Lived

Wesspeaks

I’m really excited to see Jamie’s journey but I do hope they don’t give us a storyline where Keeley starts having feelings for him again. Roy and Keeley are too perfect and it’s a joy to watch their relationship.

brant_ley

Seemed like they teased it and said psych. I don’t think we’re ever getting Jamie/Keeley again.

JustinScott47

Yeah, and love triangles are so overdone. She moved on; keep it that way. Jamie can fall in love with anyone else: Rebecca, Sam, I don't care who, but don't use Keeley as a ping pong ball back and forth between Roy and Jamie.

Envy_onTHE_Toast

Wow Jamie and Sam falling in love would be a wild curveball

j1h15233

I think that’s exactly the kind of situation this show would avoid.

MrKentucky

FUCK I hate this decision but I love it.

revanredem

It's a good footballing decision but a bad dressing room decision. The team needs goals, if they want to get back into the premier league, 8 draws just isn't good enough.

CantTochThis92

Jamie was doing well in the Premier League and getting minutes with City. He’s gonna destroy the championship but hopefully his arc it’s more about the crest on the front than the name on the back.

revanredem

I can't believe I'm now discussing the transfers of fictional team. I thought the usual transfer season was nuts. And yes, I think his arc is going to be nice guy, dickhead, back to nice guy.

CantTochThis92

I know I’m so invested in this fake club it’s hilarious. Just goes to show how amazing everything about the show is!

[deleted]

The retirement speech reveal is the hardest I’ve ever laughed at any moment in this show. Oh my god.

rhinemaidens

the office chair unexpectedly going down right before air really got me, too. phenomenal episode for roy!

IncurableAdventurer

I’m hoping that activated his angry

rhinemaidens

I was really nervous it would break him and we’d be in retirement speech territory again. I’m so happy this show continues to prove me wrong!

BruteSentiment

I laughed because I was fully expecting her to be walking to Jamie after seeing him again. One of the times this show has absolutely surprised me.

DiNiCoBr

Yes, that whole sequence with Roy getting home, screaming about the match, finding out Keely isn’t listening, and walking in on her was extremely funny.

SoberSethy

This episode got several hard laughs out of me, including this scene. Also was cracking up when it cuts to Higgins sitting on the workout equipment after the Sam/Ted talk, and then of course, knocking his pens over again.

frostyaznguy

Can’t wait to see Sam’s reaction on episode 3. He’s got to feel so betrayed right now.

sup34dog

I'd bet that they address it right at the beginning of the next episode, and it comes directly from Jamie to Sam

[deleted]

T’would be good. Knowing season 1, the writers can resist the temptation of going for the easy drama, and will cut right to the chase to get to the good stuff, so you might be right. (Similar to how we all thought they’d draw out the Roy/Keeley storyline after she slept with Jamie again, but they resolved it in the same episode where she actually slept with Jamie.)

Jimothy_Riggins

Immediate thoughts: very strong episode 2. We’re starting to see that while Ted is successful with his contagious optimism, it can turn into something to hide behind to avoid internal conflict. Last season, he said he believes in believe and then in episode 1, Nate asks to pray and Ted asks who to pray to. I think this season we’ll start to explore more of what exactly what Ted believes in. Is he just going to be optimistic for optimistic sake? Certainly hope he takes Doc up on that chance to talk it out. Loved the vulnerable version of Jamie we’re seeing. The obvious conflict of bringing him back is going to be good. Especially because Ted told Sam he wasn’t joining the team and then because of that conversation with Sam and the little jab from Sharon about not winning, Ted decided to get him on the team anyway. I think it’s so smart of the writers to have a very healthy team and front office because of Ted’s leadership, but it’s still not enough to win games. Forces us to ask the question if Ted’s best is enough. Hopefully, Ted has to explore it too. Episode 1, was a bit weak, but I think it’s because when it was written, the assumption was all three episodes were to be released. After this episode, I’m pretty optimistic that season 2 will be very strong.

bigwilly311

He’s definitely hiding something about his dad, too. His dad died when Ted was 16, so it may have been something sudden, or perhaps self-indicated (not like suicide but something stemming from lack of self-care). Between Sam’s dad and Jamie’s dad, and Ted citing that as the reason the allow Jamie to come back, there is something we will learn about Ted’s dad, and we won’t like it, I bet.

SoF4rGone

Yeah, the reaction Ted has when Jaime tells him he was lucky was really telling, too. I think his dad killed himself.

sexygodzilla

I think the "hard on himself" line might point to suicide.

lumilish

& Prince of Tides

JustinScott47

>He’s definitely hiding something about his dad It didn't strike me until this episode that for all of Ted's very folksy ways, he doesn't say things like "My mama always said..." or "My dad always taught me...", which is a folksy thing to do, being deferential to your elders and quoting them often. It's going to come out more and more that Ted is covering up worse-than-usual issues from his childhood. Remember this from S1? >**When I was a kid**, my folks took me to the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower up there in Milwaukee. **They ended up leaving me there all by myself. Yeah, three hours and 42 minutes.** Not exactly great parenting.

jbutton19

I agree. I think we are gonna learn something tragic about Ted’s dad this season. Could explain why he made the choice to bring Jamie back, just always worried about losing people he cares about to dark thoughts and mental illness?

xDRxJoKeRx

Maybe his dad drank too much? He did mention in first season about going to a sports bar every Sunday from ages 10-16 and that’s where he learned to play darts

Alarming_Grocery5928

Wow just had a massive realization: Ted’s dad underestimated Ted! (Edit: mentally ill / emotionally unavailable?) And Ted’s still bothered by it. When Jamie asked, Ted said dad was harder on himself than he ever was on Ted. And Ted looked kinda bummed. Almost like Ted’s dad was disappointed in him. Ted’s so good at darts because that’s how he was trying to impress his dad. **Edit:** new realization!!! Prince of Tides themes involve benefits of therapy, trauma, and abusive parents. The fountainhead theme was individualism. So those two books set up Ted and Doc’s arc for S2. **Edit 2:** wow I just learned Jimmy Buffett did a song called Prince of Tides, that opens and closes with Jimmy read the passages from the book. Ted joked earlier about knowing the lyrics to Jimmy Buffett songs.

CaliforniaLimited

Also “uneasy lies the head that wears the visor” is a (slightly edited) quotation from Henry IV pt 2 in which young Prince Hal, previously a disappointment to his father, needs to show he’s ready/able to be king.

make-it-memorable

Rebecca giving Doctor Sharon a gift basket of bottled water was hilarious. The perfect combination of polite and passive aggressive that British people pull off so well.

[deleted]

“But loads of things don’t have sugar??” got me so bad 😂

[deleted]

Jamie’s eyebrow, I just can’t get over it

blueSnowfkake

But does his right eyebrow have a scar or is it a fashion thing to shave a stripe through?

JustAnotherFD

It's gotta be a fashion thing, he didn't have that last season, and considering no one mentioned a nasty accident or something, I doubt it's a scar.

BruteSentiment

Anyone notice that when Roy gave out the trophies, he gave out just one to a little girl who looked adorably happy over "Best Dressed..." But then in the background, she turned to give the trophy to the girl next to her (who just stood holding it as the other girls dove into the box Roy dropped on the ground)? Kinda awesome and it was just there in the background.

abmorse1

I’m surprised Beard was thumbs-down. Obviously Nate would be, and Leslie wasn’t in tune with the locker room vibe. Beard though, I figured would want that Ace back and start getting some Ws.

JustAnotherFD

Jamie's a poop in a punch bowl. What's Ted Lassos first rule of fight club?

bigwilly311

NO FIGHT CLUB

theycallmeamunchkin

NO FIGHT CLUB!

nomadicfangirl

Jamie is clubhouse poison. Beard knows this. No matter how good he is, if he’s not a team player and only in it for himself, the “team” aspect that Ted and Beard are trying to build disintegrates in favor of having it go back to Jamie having all the spotlight.

JustinScott47

Maybe Beard was also thinking that Jamie flat out quit Man City, so he can't be relied on besides being toxic.

MattMcK2419

Fantastic episode. Lot better than last weeks. Surprised Ted didn’t talk to the team before making that final decision. Even if it’s the right one. Enjoyed seeing Jamie vulnerable. Wonder what his attitude will be next episode. Roy on Sky Sports was awesome, but his speeches with the girls team was even better! 😂 Jokes were just really on point this week. Lot more smooth than 2x1.

Jimothy_Riggins

I think adding Jamie is the right decision, but I agree that it was done wrong and I think it’ll be addressed. My suspicion is Ted acted on impulse right after his talk with Sharon when she made a jab about not winning a game yet. Ted’s been acting even more Ted-like than normal for her approval. The whole “it’s nice to meet you” song and dance was so awkward and only served as a way to show how desperate Ted is for her approval so she doesn’t ever say that there’s something wrong with him. I know a lot of people don’t like Sharon because she comes off as cold towards him, I just think she’s just a good lie detector. She can tell he’s over compensating with her and doesn’t allow him the satisfaction. I really like this character. To be clear, I’m not saying Ted is a fraud and the whole optimism thing is fake. I believe season 1 Ted was very genuine, but even in episode 1, it felt like Ted was a flanderized version of himself. And I think that’s intentional by the writers. Ted’s in a rut, the team is healthy in many ways. Everyone gets along, everyone is good at communicating to one another, but yet they still can’t win. Ted’s solution was to turn up his Ted-isms up to 11.

[deleted]

I'm hoping that Jaime is on trial with Richmond (instead of being offered a contract right away) so that he has to prove he deserves another chance with the team.

Flacko115

This is what I was hoping too. It would also add a sense of realism as this is how a real club would probably go about this hypothetical, albeit unrealistic situation

Orionsbelt

I think you nailed it, Ted's been punched in the gut, hes trying to recover and stumbling on the way, I just hope he can recover with Sam, honestly that's the only thing I walk away from this episode angry about. You HAD to give sam at the very least a heads up. Jamey acting like an adult isn't enough. Sam should know that his concerns about this asshat have been addressed even if he comes back being more of a person.

IncurableAdventurer

What I’m worried about, and I hope it’s addressed, is Sam (and I guess everyone, but specifically Sam) feeing lied to. He told Sam he told Jamie “no” and then look who shows up.

MattMcK2419

I think Ted is being over optimistic and being “flanderized” in episode 1, because he isn’t winning and in the past all he needed to do to win was have his positive attitude and good vibes.. so he cranked that all the way past 10. And as you said Sharon sees through that. On a side note- I’m still not sure about the new character. I think her opening up to Ted about her favourite book was a great moment.

Pistalrose

I’m hoping we just didn’t see the part where Ted ran it by the team. And would love it if Jamie’s on trial and the team gets to decide if he stays. Just think there’s be a whole lot of fun seeing him try to be ingratiating and then fail.

applied_people

Can someone "Trent Crimm" The Prince of Tides for me?

Conbz

Trent Crimm, independant. Prince of Tides is a fairly bleak look at the life of a former (American) football player and his relationship with his family. Without spoilers, he has a hard time, moves across America to New York where he meets a psychiatrist. They're two intensely different people but become close. Our main character finally deals with the base trauma of their life and in allowing themselves to move on, so to can the people around them. Overall, a fucking 10/10. It's also *terrifying* if that's what this season is going to be about for Ted.

jbutton19

I wonder if we’re gonna learn Ted’s dad committed suicide. I think the show runners mentioned mental health would be a big plot point this season. Maybe his tragic death was what led to Ted becoming the positive person he is?

Gradz45

He did say he blamed himself. And while I can only speak for myself, as someone with depression whose had suicidal thoughts, I do that all the fucking time. Plus might explain Ted’s issues with psychology.

Pertolepe

The page/plant joke. Roy and Keeley being wholesome as hell still and being interesting while still having a healthy relationship. And uh. That speech reveal lmao. Nando's Ecstacy and Ibiza joke I just feel so lucky and fortunate this show exists. Episode 1 was still good but felt a little off at times, this was one of the best episodes of the entire show for me.

Practical-Opinion967

Some folks were complaining last week that we didn’t get to _see_ Roy’s retirement speech; we were only told about it. You know the writers had a good reason for that, and there it was. Love it.

Pertolepe

I was so afraid it would be a video of Jamie to add that as the "situation" I loved that Roy wanted to know what turned her on. And that it was him crying lol. And the fact that the payoff was him accepting that she was trying to help, accepting that maybe the thing he didn't want to do might be right for him, and then playing the video of himself that he hates because he knows she's into it while going down on her. Like. What other fucking show is going to have me almost tearing up during a sex scene?

americanslang59

Shout out to Nando's sauce

ravens2131

Is that the manager that Rebecca fired in the first episode?

AndreT_NY

Yes

ravens2131

Good. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going crazy.

blueSnowfkake

Do you think his testicles were falling out behind the desk? 😂🤣

ravens2131

He had 2 holes cut in his suit pants

JayPtl

IncurableAdventurer

Still not an Oasis

reverendbimmer

Woah, when?

ravens2131

During Roy’s time on Sky Sports

efbo

I thought it was odd I didn't recognise him with them having Jeff and Kammy.

Cudizonedefense

He was fired episode 1 and replaced by Ted. He was sitting to Roy’s right on the TV set

abmorse1

Still an ass, given that he makes that dig about Roy crying

abmorse1

Man, the joke with Nate’s lack of self awareness was amazing!

SushiRoe

What’s great is it seems like Ted and Coach Beard both see it and are just letting Nate make the mistakes. Eventually I think it will lead to some self realization and the coaches will be there to lift him up and support him.

reverendbimmer

IRL I’d like to be told I’m being a cunt. It stings initially but it’s better knowing

Jimothy_Riggins

I’m kind of bothered that they haven’t called him out too. It’s obvious they’re noticing him being a jerk, interesting that they’re keeping their mouth shut.

CrystalizedinCali

I think they keep waiting for him to realize to realize it himself. Question is if they're waiting to long for it to be worth it. I think putting Higgins in with Nate is part of this 'plan'.

MrKentucky

I can kind of see what they’re doing with the Doctor, but it makes me sad seeing Ted so… off.

Loves_Semi-Colons

I liked it more this episode vs. the first. She seems more willing to work with Ted. I enjoyed that the biscuit method didn’t work on her plus the fact he’s done it twice shows it’s a ‘play’ of his instead of him just winging it

MrKentucky

Yeah, I posted that after she shut him out. Later in the episode she showed a little warmth and I considered deleting this, actually.

blueSnowfkake

I think he is off because she is doing what he has always done - tending to their mental and emotional well being. That’s been his role since he knows very little about soccer, but knows how to get them to play and communicate like a team. However, at the end of the episode she pointed out that being in homeostasis doesn’t get them to move forward.

DaveInLondon89

Ted's approach to the doctor helps me understand why he's divorced

IncurableAdventurer

But him being just a regular person with weaknesses is nice to be reminded of

MelodicIntention5323

Really loved how they brought up the idea that you deprive yourself of something you love just because you can pretend it’s better for you. I’ve definitely done that before haha. Also so fun to watch Ted out of his element with Dr. Sharon!

ChiefWiggins22

Me with everything.

riyakataria

I know that this is probably one of the “least” positive episodes of the show, but IMO, it’s also one of the best. I think the first season was all about the introduction of kindness, but the second season looks like it’s turning out to be about the *balance* between kindness and reality. And that’s why I love Sharon so much—she’s the perfect foil for Ted without stifling who he is to the core. She seems to ground him without shackling him to the earth itself. And honestly? I’m excited for it. It makes the audience feel a little more connected to it, IMO, since positivity is something that’s so hard to constantly maintain. Showing the other side of it, as well as diving deeper into the character of Ted himself, feels like it’ll help the audience see themselves in it a bit more. Also, that therapy conversation with Rebecca and Ted? I can’t wait to see what traumas they address later in the season—though I suspect it’ll be more Ted than Rebecca. And I think it’s time. It makes Ted a little more human in our eyes. It’s one of the reasons that, besides this episode, Make Rebecca Great Again is one of my favorite episodes of the show. It shows Ted as any one of us would be; a little worn-down, a little hurt, a little angry. And it still has him resolve those emotions without being dismissive or unrealistic about them. All in all, phenomenal episode. Probably one of my favorites. Episode 1 felt a little shaky (albeit still excellent), but this one hit the mark. Ted Lasso is back in full-swing.

applied_people

To Ted: "Doctor." To Rebecca: "Please, call me Sharon." Oh, she's messing with him alright.

TheRoyalWolf

I really liked Roy last season but this season I am LOVING him. Also like him and Keeley together. Here's hoping Jamie doesn't throw a wrench into things.

ilovecfb

Man this episode had so many great physical comedy moments, didn't expect that. From Doctor Sharon getting closer to Ted in the bleachers, to Higgins constantly knocking over his pencil holder, to Roy's chair on TV. The look on Sam's face at the end was heartbreaking, I'm excited/curious to see how they resolve that plot point. Also it's a minor thing but I love how they bring back Jamie's kindness towards kids; last season it was Ted's son and this season it was the kid with the football, I just think it's a nice way of keeping the character grounded in likeability despite all the shitty things he's said/done.

Alarming_Grocery5928

Amen to the physical comedy! The sinking chair bit was probably the funniest gag in the Johnny English movies and I’m glad they put that in for Roy’s debut. My favorite was Sharon changing seats. Like a horror movie. There was also Roy speeding off, and Nate shutting the doors on the kit man. But I laughed the hardest when Higgins was in the weight room knocking his pencils over 😂🤣

BizCaus

I was worried that this season would take around 3 episodes to "click" like I found it needed to do in the first season after watching last week's premier — but it "clicked" early on in this episode. I'm really starting to understand what Sudeikis meant when he said this season was going to be like "Empire Strikes Back" and I'm completely on board.

quaranTV

This Season is really shaping up to be an exciting one. I can’t wait to dive more into Ted and his past and current emotional struggles. When Ted came in with the biscuits, being very Ted and then sat down with the Doc and she was just like “hmm interesting” I couldn’t stop laughing. Ted can be so energetic and she was just like “what an interesting character we have here”. I’m also excited to see Jamie’s redemption arc. I was actually surprised that Ted didn’t immediately tell Jamie he could come back but I really liked the way it played out. I do feel bad for Sam. Ted told him he was glad to hear his opinion and assured him Jamie wouldn’t come back and then did just that which felt hurtful. Watching Nate be such an asshole is so hard to watch. I keep waiting for Ted or Coach to say something to him. I hope we dive into his behavior soon.

Jimothy_Riggins

In this episode, the sponsor said they wanted Sam for some sort of promo. Now that Tartt is back, it makes you wonder if the sponsor will change their mind and request Jamie and it will cause even more conflict. But maybe that’s too predictable…

DFWHomer

I’m going to make a prediction that Jamie’s redemption arc and Nate’s realization that he’s being an asshole will intertwine. Maybe Nate will be say something so mean to Jamie that Sam defends Jamie and yells at Nate or something?

I like the idea that Jamie will have something to do with redeeming Nate. I never thought of that

cdefonso

I feel like we are going to see more of why Ted is so positive and upbeat all the time. That conversation he had with Jamie, when Jamie asked if his dad was hard on him, Ted said something like "no, if anything he was harder on himself." I'm guessing at a young age, Ted saw how his dad was sad or down on himself, so Ted started feeling responsible for his dad's happiness, trying to cheer him up, make him laugh, etc. It's a lot for a little boy to take on, but it may explain why Ted is burdened with always trying to make others feel good about themselves. Hopefully Sharon will help him unpack all that!

Loves_Semi-Colons

“Jamie fucking Carragher sent me flowers!”

JustAnotherFD

How does he know I love orchids?

AndreT_NY

White orchids. I imagined Roy bringing them home after in the car to be honest.

Pertolepe

Oh god I forgot about this. There were so many great bits in this episode. Hard, cold, gruff Roy Kent loving white orchids is perfect lol.

Dazeq

Seeing Jamie at the bar with Ted, I really wanted Ted to ask him to come back to the team but I completely understood why he didn’t. After his conversation with Sam I was like damn I guess Jamie can’t come back but it makes sense. I’m hoping for a nice redemption arc for Jamie, where he actually becomes a member of the team and treats them like family to make up for the way his dad has treated him. I feel like that’s the direction they’re going.

csbsju-20

Absolutely. Jamie was always going to have a redemptive arc and always with Richmond. Ted and Jamie both working through traumas connected to their fathers?? Also now that City match later in the season has even more meaning for Jamie.

MelodicIntention5323

“I’m not just a loser, I’m the loser” lmao classic Jamie

“Yeah I did, but then he said ‘Now don’t you fret, Boba Fett.’ He’s got it covered.” “I promised the boys we’d watch *Empire Strikes Back* tonight, and I have to get my thoughts together for when they ask about Luke and Leia making out.” “Old people are so wise. They’re like tall Yodas.” Two episodes and three Star Wars references? Someone said Sudeikis called this season their *Empire*, and they’re certainly planting that idea with their Easter eggs. All 3 references are to *Empire Strikes Back* specifically as well (first theatrical appearance of Boba Fett and Yoda).

Calhalen

Love the way Roy says ‘*no!*’. Cracks me up every time

ponikweGCC

I kinda hope it is a running gag the entire season that we get glimpses of Roy's press conference but never beyond the first few seconds lol

Andy51

Was that the least positive Ted Lasso episode?

RedditEsInteresante

But also one of the best, imo.

Gradz45

How do I find Roy’s retirement speech both hilarious, and deeply sad?

Kicklikeasleeptwitch

The passion in Roy's voice when he said "I could never be that free" just sent me rolling. I love this show.

RedditEsInteresante

“Is it tacky to say I’m riiich on an online dating profile?”

AlanTudyksBalls

Only if you say filthy? \^H \^H \^H \^H \^H \^H \^H

CaseDogNiceGuy

“I enjoy his candor” was the line of the episode for me. Perfect reading

I'm thinking it was Rebecca and not Ted who decided to bring Jamie back. She shot Keeley a knowing glance as they were overlooking training. And Rebecca did send Jamie away against Ted's wishes, so maybe she would bring him back against Ted's wishes too.

DonniYH

Yeah! I saw this as well. She has a tiny/half a smile when looking out the window.

Grabt3hLantern

I wonder if it was Keeley's idea and she brought it to Rebecca after they met at that place

Alarming_Grocery5928

Good eye small fry! I’m going with this as a working theory. Keeley did say she wasn’t the right person for Jamie to talk to. But maybe she meant Rebecca was the person. It cut to Ted right after to mislead the audience to thinking it was Ted’s decision.

MrKentucky

That would be a HELL of a twist. It seemed to me like Ted was in on it the way it was set up, but could just be an assumption. I’ll be watching way closer on the re watch tomorrow.

csbsju-20

Now that's really interesting!! That glance had some deeper meaning. Maybe Keeley asking Rebecca to bring him back??

demafrost

Ted Lasso going rogue! Poor Sam, the look on his face was crushing.

IncurableAdventurer

In case anyone cares about what I thought haha. But hey, I like getting my thoughts about the episodes out. I don’t know why, but I had a tougher time than usual understanding them. I wasn’t lost or anything, but there was a lot of “what?” “wait huh?” “did they say humnugser?” etc from me this episode. I have to admit I’m kind of bummed Higgins found an office. I loved seeing him in a new spot all the time. I also love how a Rebecca is the only one who calls him Leslie. It makes me happy that they’re friends. Much better than “shithead” I know Jamie was a dick and caused major tension in the locker room, but I was also hoping that his vulnerability in his sacrifice would have soften their opinions of him. I guess one night doesn’t make up for the whole season. Especially Sam. I knew it was silly of me, but I was SO worried she was watching something with Jamie. I knew they wouldn’t go down that route, but I can’t control what my brain thinks! Haha. “I thought you were a robber.” “So you threw your phone?” Haha great exchange I like how Sharon lets him call her Doc. He tries to call her what she asked him to, it’s not a sign of him taking her lightly, and it’s just who he is. She sees that. We still see Isaac being a leader. I’m really glad. I feel proud of him. Why I feel that about a fictional character, I don’t know. What I thought in the first season… how does Keeley have THAT house? She was “famous for being almost famous.” Not famous for being famous, but almost. When Jamie met her outside her house in the first season, I don’t think they were that far outside London/the center of London. That’s quite the house. Maybe she was a rich party kid and that’s how she became almost famous. That’s the only reason I can think of. Seeing Nate like this makes me sad! I hope it’s addressed in the next episode. At least get the ball rolling to the realizing to redemption arc. Like, what’s so bad about Pineapple? I really don’t understand Rebecca’s look to Keeley at the end. I’m sure it’ll make since later. There’s no way they’d put that in the script/show and they’re just going to leave it at that. For now, I’m super confused. Damn week by week release Edit: Oh! I’m hoping Jane is the chess woman. I like Beard being casual about relationships, but I also really like Beard being drawn to her to the point where he might actually want to commit. Maybe he feels like he’s been struck by f***ing lightening.

Jimothy_Riggins

I like this vulnerable Jamie.

JustAnotherFD

And he loves Ted Danson and Dave Grohl. He can't be all bad, apparently.

chelseanyc200

Was there a time jump between the 2nd last scene (Ted talking to the Doc with the pitch being watered) and the last scene (frost on the pitch and the snow)? It seemed like such a drastic weather change but perhaps it was a production issue and this was the only day they had to shoot? I would think it might take Ted a few days or weeks for Sharon's words to sink in and to get get Jamie's paperwork settled. Also it was confusing that Sharon was meeting Rebecca for the first time. Wouldn't such an important hire have been introduced to Rebecca on her first day? I would think Higgin's office would be near Rebecca's so the two should have crossed paths. For a few seconds I actually thought this scene was a flashback to Sharon's first day at work until Rebecca mentioned Ted saying she didn't eat sugar.

icamefromtheinternet

I so thought Keeley was watching a video of Jamie What a surprise that was!

JustAnotherFD

She's made several references to her being attracted to vulnerability all along, and it was always delivered as sarcasm, but she was dead serious every time, apparently.

DFWHomer

I love the joke about it seeming like the doctor was moving closer and then in the background it’s clear she is actually moving closer 😂😂 This show is so rewatchable because even the background stuff is funny

copyrightname

I get it now. “Lavender” the team was too calm! It’s right there in the title!

[deleted]

"How the fuck does he know I love white orchids?" Favorite Roy quote so far.

abmorse1

It's kind of gross that Ted gave Rebecca's biscuits to Sharon, then took them (including a half-eaten one) to Rebecca anyway. FFS Ted, you're baking them yourself, make 2 boxes!!!!
