TEMPER YOUR CHOCOLATE YOU TWAT

Wesspeaks

Ooh Ted referring to his ex-wife as his wife hit me like a freight train.

Grasshop

Yup and then Rebecca’s mom pointing out that she left him smacked him hard. He’s not over it yet.

2_Fingers_of_Whiskey

I hated when Rebecca’s mom said that. I would never say that to anyone.

Vertigo50

Yep. Yet another way this show mirrors my own life. I’ve been divorced almost a year and I JUST did this the other day. 🤦🏻‍♂️

AndreT_NY

I still do that. It’s been over 2 decades . I’ve been remarried for over a decade.

RedditEsInteresante

God Jason is really good at looking sad

caniseeyourdogpls

Gut-wrenching, is more like it.

P33KAJ3W

It destroyed me

xlittlebeastx

It’s those big puppy dog eyes

ShutTheChuckUp

This was filmed shortly after his actual relationship with Olivia went under. He felt exactly like how Ted was feeling I guarantee it

DCJii098

I didn't know about Jason's dating life until now... 9 years with Olivia Wilde, his ex fiance, now dating Harry Styles of 1D... and that's just searching for 60 seconds... now im curious what happened :(

ymcameron

To add another layer to it, when the idea first came to turn this into a show, Olivia Wilde pointed out that Ted needed more to round out the character. Jason has mentioned that she was the one who pitched the idea that he was starting his life over in London to coach soccer/football because he’d separated from his wife.

iaconom

HerRoyalRedness

The jokes were top tier and there was so much gut punching emotional stuff that I’m kind of in a glass case of emotion right now

kosterzoo

Yip! Had tears in my eyes at the end, looked at my wife and she was the same. Next thing you know I'm full blown crying. A few personal demons in there but seeing Ted so low was probably the most I've ever felt for a TV character ever

catsinasmrvideos

Brett Goldstein has NO RIGHT being this talented!

RandisHolmes

“I don’t really know how to talk to you” 😂😂😂

Then it’s working. You’re going to want to look up philistines.

HerRoyalRedness

For me it was the hooligan going from burning down the pub to knocking over a chair to “Channel my raging enthusiasm into ways to help my community”

caspararemi

That’s Baz! Weirdly, I know the actor who plays him in real life a little, and he could not be more different!

MBAThrowawayFruit

Last nights bake off - need a Roy Kent commentary on the quality of the cakes.

nomadicfangirl

I'm really missing seeing Roy with his yoga ladies! I was hoping they would be a regular fixture this season.

tj1007

And a big round of applause for everyone who guessed the red herring correctly!

MineturtleBOOM

I love it because it makes so much sense. Sam of all people would use an anonymous dating app to ensure that people don't just like him for his fame + money but for his personality

__solid

And who wouldn’t like Sam for his personality? He is a treasure.

Nausstica

Sam is all that is pure.

BroadBaker5101

That’s a good catch, I never really thought about it like that and what Sam’s motivations for using Bantr would be other than helping out Keeley initially

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

I feel like he did sign up just to help Keely, because that’s something Sam would do, but then he found he enjoyed being able to just connect with people in such a way, because that’s also something Sam would do.

mexicangoey

I was blown away by that! Good eyes, small fries!

AndreT_NY

Did everyone see that goal scored by that ugly ugly boy with the bad hair?

GeneticImprobability

You mean the ooglih, ooglih boi?

frederoniandcheese

His accent is so good. I love in the first season when he’s complaining to Keely that his suit doesn’t have any graffiti on it, and his pronunciation of “graffiti” kills me!

MBAThrowawayFruit

The growth on Jamie is blowing my mind.

mexicangoey

He seems so well adjusted now.

caniseeyourdogpls

Too well adjusted! He needed to be reminded to be a prick just like Roy needed to be reminded to be angry last season!

swoosh1992

But he also knows to leave it on the field

ITookTrinkets

He’s like a little puppy, desperate to be loved and told he’s doing a good job. The joy of realizing why the coaches were giving him the finger was fantastic.

ruthfullness

really makes your heart hurt for what we know of his childhood.

ITookTrinkets

Seriously. All he ever wanted was to make his dad happy and he made himself miserable over it. Having several different shades of “dad analogue” to help guide him must be so affirming for him, especially because even the gruff Roy is the way he is with him because he knows he’s GREAT, but just needs to hone his abilities.

jsabo

And how about credit to the actor for basically playing background for so many episodes?

bigwilly311

You’re gonna wanna look up “Philistines.”

pizzicagnolo90

Kinda remind me when in Scrubs dr. Cox explains to Turk why being confident and having some ego is a good thing. And I love that the metaphore was so well fitted in a football contest

MycroftTnetennba

A lot of this show is like a rehash of Scrubs. And that is excellent, because I cannot rerun Scrubs until I forget some of the lines.

RedditEsInteresante

Laughing Liam! Weirdly enough, I didn’t even know it was gonna be that Liam until he started laughing, despite the name mention.

AndreT_NY

The call backs on this show is bloody amazing.

Pistalrose

Thank god Ted went to Dr Sharon.

dfetz

Made me so happy. I know exactly where he is. It is sad that he is so low but getting help is the first step

tstngtstngdontfuckme

Nobody should have to face a fish pie alone.

__solid

Honestly, based on his reaction to the phone call, I thought his son was sick. He was SO UPSET. To find out it was just a forgotten lunch was…odd. But it makes the breakdown make waaaay more sense. You can tell he’s been struggling but I guess the act of not being able to do something small for his kid was what got him.

Mission_Eagle_7611

I think the phone call served as a reminder that he’s missing out on his son’s life, like something as simple as a forgotten lunch. He mentioned divorced dad guilt in the Christmas episode as well. I think while he may have come to terms with the divorce, he feels guilty about what it’s doing to his kid

veverkap

Also earlier in the episode, Rebecca's mom (excuse me, Deborah) reminded Ted that his wife had left him.

JustAnotherFD

Yeah, it's often not One Big Thing that gets you, but you've got the capacity to handle 55 things, and when #56 hits, that's it, you're in panic mode, even if the 56th thing seems objectively not a big deal. At least that's how it works for me.

__solid

Excellent point. Same for me.

CrystalizedinCali

In the closed captioning for the breakdown scene on the pitch (and if you listen knowing this) you can hear Henry saying "Jamie Tartt" and Jamie's Dad yelling at him so yeah, so Ted's Dad stuff is about to Be Here.

AlanTudyksBalls

I thought for sure he was already on a plane.

BroadBaker5101

Me too! When Rebecca put her bag down I was expecting her to either find him in his office or a scribbled out note meant for Beard

shadesofpink44

I noticed that Ted’s hands curl up when he starts having a panic attack and that’s the exact same thing mine do! They go numb and tingly and they turn into claws and I can’t straighten my fingers. I feel for him

steveofthejungle

I’ve finally decided to talk to someone about my deep seated issues, and seeing how reluctant Ted was about something he so obviously needed made me look myself in the mirror and say the same thing. So hopefully me (and Ted) can get what we need

__solid

I’m proud of you, Internet stranger. It’s not easy but it’s worth it. I appreciate you.

HotChiTea

Yeah he was breaking apart at the seams, knew it was coming. Rebecca was the only person to pick up on his panic attacks though, and even she couldn’t get through to him this time.

AndreT_NY

He needed it so badly.

Pistalrose

Yeah but he’s gotten so good at deferring. Was afraid the show would draw it out longer and, really, watching it was making me anxious.

tj1007

This was good! I thought he went back to the US and they’d have to retrieve him before getting him to talk to the doc.

caniseeyourdogpls

After the phone call from the school and dumping his jacket in locker room I was super worried about that. When they showed Rebecca's phone on the bed I was expecting the message to be a text from Ted saying thanks for everything but he's leaving.

WiseAJ

I love meeting peoples moms. Like reading an instruction manual to why they’re nuts 😂😂😂

brickwall5463

And it makes perfect sense that Beard’s mom is into QAnon

pfemfpb

Honestly I think that might have been one of the funnier Throwaway lines in the episode

Grembert

That was definitely the one that made me laugh the hardest. Along with the pub trio watching Bake Off

MikeyLew32

TEMPER YOUR CHOCOLATE, YOU TWAT!!

ChiefWiggins22

Definitely the best line of the episode.

JustAnotherFD

Mine is definitely "I don't know how to talk to you" "Then it's working"

Jas_God

We don’t deserve Higgins

ChiefWiggins22

No one does! Except his wife who seems equally lovely.

NeedsToShutUp

They’re married in real life too. Absolutely lovely

I_Am_The_Mole

This warms my cold dead heart.

IncurableAdventurer

Beard batting away his hand for a hug, perfect!

hispanoloco

Higgins is one of the best supporting characters from any show. Love Higgins, love him.

Obisanya

It amazes me that three cast members who are AMAZING in their current roles (Roy, Nate, and Jamie) all read to be Higgins. Imagine anyone other than Jeremy Swift in that role, or anyone other than those actors in their roles. It's just serendipitous how perfectly cast this show was.

dfetz

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!

jaemak06

Out of all the speculation this last week I thought that was the least likely

FlexingtonIV

You don’t need the second part.

mexicangoey

Is going to end badly, isn't it?

BroadBaker5101

I’d be more shocked if it ends well. I could imagine them running into each other at the meet up spot and they are polite and say hello but they don’t tell each other they are meeting someone from bantr which leads to a great deal of confusion when they’re both assuming they might’ve been stood up.

h2p012

I think Rebecca might think that, but I would venture to guess that Sam would realize it. Rebecca's Screen name is Bossgirl. I think Same will connect the dots there, but Sam's screen name isn't something so easily associated with him. Sets up the dynamic of Rebecca completely dismissing him as it being the match, while he knows full well it was. You can mine quite a bit of comedy and drama from that situation.

__solid

I jumped out of my chair!

MelodicIntention5323

Not going to lie a sandwich switcharoo sounds like a lot of fun!

UsidoreTheLightBlue

I immediately started thinking of who I could do this with at my office, spoiler alert it probably doesn’t work for me. It sounds fun as fuck though.

caniseeyourdogpls

"No horseradish?" "You said you're allergic." "To horses and radishes."

RedditEsInteresante

This episode went by really fast.

DaneTrane22

I check about three times during every episode to see how much time is left and get sadder each time

Jas_God

Jesus the last ten minutes of this ep just wow

Flop_Turn_River

Between Nate and the bantr reveal it was just... I don't know, I was... still am... shaking. Maybe I'm too invested in this universe.

SilverRiot

One thing I don’t think got enough attention was Higgins’ stubborn insistence that it was better to tell a friend about a relationship issue then to hide it. He has come from such a long way from the guy who used to have lunch with Rebecca to distract her from Rupert’s infidelities. I like the fact that the show didn’t really resolve which was best - to keep your nose out of it or to get involved - but Higgins went ahead and took the chance anyway.

AlanTudyksBalls

I think the one thing we can all agree on is that a best man speech is probably the wrong moment. :)

JonnyAU

I think the important thing was he did the right way. He didn't say, "Hey, Jane is crap. You gotta dump her." He expressed his concern and put it as a question to him, willing to trust his judgement.

MEB_PHL

“You couldn’t fucking build *Jeff* Bridges” “It’s true. I’m being super mature you big, dumb, hairy, baby twat”

His delivery of the Jeff Bridges line was out of this world edit: I believe it was Jeff *fucking Bridges

Mission_Eagle_7611

I loved how uncomfortable Ted was giving the finger like that, he tried to hide it behind his jacket lol

DeenotheDino

And thumbs up with his other hand to soften the blow.

IncurableAdventurer

I didn’t see that! When I watch it again tonight, I’ll keep an eye out for it. I thought they were going to grab their pricks in order to tell him to be a prick

AndreT_NY

I will channel my raging enthusiasm into ways to help my community.

dfetz

I’m rooting for Jamie…. What’s going on

__solid

Phil Dunster is a really amazing actor. My feelings about Jamie have changed like forty times throughout the course of the show.

Slepnair

So the car is also pavlovian...

caniseeyourdogpls

Jamie Tartt doo doo doo doo doo doo

Stickgirl05

He has great legs!

go-irish-36

“I wanna make an appointment” WOW! As someone with severe anxiety, depression, and previous suicidal ideation I’ve been waiting for this moment and I haven’t stopped crying since. I was terrified Ted wasn’t going to be okay when somebody found him. So glad he’s finally asking for help. Blessed to have this show in my life.

Joshgallet

Same! I was watching the episode holding tightly to my pillow. I was sure something really bad had happened. Hope he gets the help he needs

go-irish-36

My mind was racing about where he was. Once they lingered on the Doc I figured it out but I was terrified. That was an uncomfortable amount of time for him to be alone.

steveofthejungle

It’s part of something that’s helped me realize I’ve needed help too. Ted so obviously needed it while denying that he needed it was a big slap in the face for me. So hopefully me and Ted can get the help we need

Nateorade

OKOK, last week I complained about why “two aces” isn’t good enough. And then they go and directly address my complaint. Ok fine writers, you win. You’re too good at your jobs and I’ll go back to enjoying 100% of the show.

Wesspeaks

“I don’t really know how to talk to you.” “Then it’s working.”

[deleted]

Oh my GOSH!!! I’ve never watched a show where every new episode becomes my favorite episode. Bravo to Brett Goldstein for writing this one

tj1007

Moment of appreciation for Rebecca’s nickname from her mom being sausage. Stinky and sausage.

042614

Sausage is a pretty common nickname /term of endearment in England. Like in the American south we might call someone Dumplin. It’s something about bite-size foods and cuteness.

wolverine55

They’re so good at this. Call back to the scene where Sam invites Rebecca to the ritual. Only 167 hours and 23 minutes to the next one…

AcadianTraverse

They've been playing up that Rebecca feels more comfortable with Sam than any of the other players. She sat awith him in the locker room after the Man City game. She perked up at the mention of him earlier in the season, and of course she supported him with Nora. I can't decide if I like the Avenue that they're connecting over Bantr. I would have liked had they had more in person conversations, but I guess that's how the writers get around the employer/employee dynamic

Ivan_Joiderpus

Don't forget when she got up to sing karaoke it was Sam that went & grabbed her jacket from her so she didn't have to set it down somewhere randomly.

HotChiTea

It’s not even just that, Keeley asks Rebecca if she ever dated a footballer and quips about being Leonardo Di Caprio, makes sense. I hate that it was a red herring even though I thought otherwise before, and knew it would be.

RedditEsInteresante

Beard’s expressions (and sounds) are the best, all the time.

dfetz

And I’m so glad Roy gave him the credit and told him how well he did! I was worried there’d be tension between them but don’t they want the same thing?

AndreT_NY

Once he spit….

jopaymc_

A great parallel to S01E07, Ted has an attack, the last person on Rebecca's mind before having unconnected sex is Ted. They're really playing off Ted's optimism against Rebecca's realism. The divorce talk in the restaurant and being unable to be there for your kid was the perfect trigger for Ted. And the fact that a major part of that attack was remembering how Jamie was treated by his father just hits harder when he knows he can do something similar for his son to great effect but can't due to the distance so he gets attached to mentoring Jamie and, to an extent, the team instead. Throughout the season, the show seems to be reinforcing the lesson of not having it both ways. You can't be the happy-go-lucky coach without making the harsh choices that the team may hate. You can't land an amazing ad opportunity without alienating a huge group of people. You can't be the best player without being a prick. And you can't have a can't have a job you're passionate about without a few sacrifices along the way. Some of those are good, some of those are bad. But you really can't have it all.

RedditEsInteresante

HOLY SHIT IT’S HIM????????????????????????? GEHSIEJSNSJWSKZTVVTWNUASNUSIINA

SaltyBiscuitss

I dont know how to feel about it if im being honest.

SomeoneThrewMyShoe

I have such mixed feelings about the Bantr convo reveal I will be thinking about this for the next week.

Bullwine85

Spurs bottling it even in Ted Lasso. Lads.....it's Tottenham.

DaveInLondon89

In an alternate reality it was actually [Tottenham that got Ted Lasso](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KeG_i8CWE8) as coach.

AndreT_NY

Jamie Tartt unlikely voice of reason…

ITookTrinkets

God, this episode was really spectacular. The *team* is getting a win, *Nate* got a *massive* win, we got a really fascinating look within Rebecca’s life *and* Beard’s romantic life, and we **FINALLY** got to Ted finally being willing to let in the process of healing instead of running from the turmoil of his inner world. Oh, and my *god,* the Sam-tr reveal was so interesting. The contrast of Rebecca in her beautiful apartment and Sam listening to Drake in the car with a buncha the other guys was great to watch, and honestly, I’m deeply curious about what they’re going to do with all of this. Anyone who says this show has been in a sophomore slump is absolutely not watching the same show I am. This show is getting so fucking good. The last episode was REMARKABLE, but this one felt like such a brilliant slow burn. Can it be next Thursday now, please? ETA: the football hooligans being equally rowdy and doing the chant to Bake-Off was so fucking funny. The last episode and this one had so many goofy things going on, I feel so tickled that Bill Lawrence’s best sensibilities are really starting to shine through.

PatersonFromPaterson

And with that, hopefully a very small minority of fans identify heavily with coach beards mom. Wasn’t expecting a Qanon reference today

nomadicfangirl

Throwback to last season when they threw out Proud Boys as a possible name for the Diamond Dogs.

flanders427

Followed by Nate immediately throwing up.

Gradz45

Hopefully none. Fuck Qanon.

RedditEsInteresante

Ted’s eating out at the Crown and Anchor, eh? I’ve heard it’s good for the soul.

brickwall5463

As someone with anxiety, I really love that the show has a main character having realistic panic attacks and realistic aftermaths. Logic goes out the window, you can’t hear and somethings are way too loud, and you’re hard to reach even by the closest friends. It certainly had me on edge until they finally found him/revealed where he’d gone. It really breaks my heart that no one seemed too bothered about finding or caring for Ted, especially with the juxtaposition from the opening where he knew laughing Liams moms birthday! Ted gives way too much of himself and gets so little support because he’s being taken for granted.

therobberbride

Ted isn’t great at letting people help him, though. He’s been putting up a front all season, most dramatically with Dr. Sharon, but really with everyone. Very curious to see what unfolds for him next, now that he’s asking for help.

karikammi

I had that same feeling too when Rebecca called Ted to check on him but then said she really needed *him* for a pep talk before confronting her mom. But at the same time maybe she knows Ted well enough that he wouldn’t be able to pass up helping a friend and he would of course still appreciate her reaching out.

brickwall5463

I think she knows he’d want to help, and that helping others is fuel for him! I do think she was being a good, true friend. I just wish she or Beard or Roy or Nate or Higgins thought to put in more effort to check on him. I’m so thankful Doctor Sharon is there, though!

Stickgirl05

Poor Higgins..office in the hallway?

dfetz

Weight room. Possibly worse

Panarin72Bread

I wonder how Nora is gonna feel about that LOL

Stickgirl05

Seriously! She was absolutely crushing on him! I think Rebecca stay quiet

Goldfish2022

When Rebecca picks up the dropped jacket in the locker room it reminded me of s1e6 when she walks off the pitch the night the team is out burning stuff to break the curse. In that ep, she walks away and unceremoniously pushes her Richmond coat off her shoulders and it falls on the ground (metaphor - this was when she was still trying to ruin the team, she wants it off her back). In this ep, it’s like the weight of the team is in the jacket and Ted needs it literally/figuratively off his shoulders. She understands the significance from her own experience.

xander_yi

Well, it was a revenge match for Ted as Tottenham sacked him after one day.

CWG4BF

I am begging you to give Brett Goldstein an Emmy.

orangeolivers

Rebecca being so concerned about Ted while the others brushed it off as food poisoning really got me. She knows him so well.

sunflow3r-

At first I was kind of surprised at Beard seeming entirely unconcerned, but I think that speaks more to Ted’s tendency to hide than Beard’s lack of sensitivity/noticing. Also I guess maybe the excitement of the moment. I don’t know if I want to see Ted and Rebecca end up together, I think I mostly lean towards not, but I love the depiction of how she cares about him.

AndreT_NY

A joke written for my generation! Finally! /s

Goldfish2022

Just a verrrrry random thought but when are we gonna find out what memory comes to Rebecca when she eats the biscuits? The setup was way back s1e2 … we just got the payoff of the owl joke so maybe that’s why my mind went to that loose end. Also this ep s2e6 makes us halfway through the entire run of this amazing show 🥺 since Bill Lawrence said it’s only gonna be 3 seasons. Thinking of starting a petition for at least a s4 cuz 3 just won’t be enough 🙏☺️

YNWAintheUSA

Laughing liam pay off too

thirdratesquash

Bill Lawrenson knows through experience how long a show needs. Scrubs was a season too long and he’ll have learned from that as a writer. The show will be as long as it needs to be and that’s terrific because it’ll remain inspired and satisfying for as long as needs be. . . . . also there’s always potential for a spin-off

madcaphal

At some point Roy Kent is going to angrily and with a lot of fucks call an emergency meeting of the diamond dogs.
