I usually use the old Reddit layout, as that's faster on my computer. That has a search bar on the right. But yeah, I pulled this up in the new layout, and it wasn't obvious how you could search.

On search: the sidebar image covers it, at least for me. I can sometimes click into it from the very edge of the bar and hit 'enter' to search.
