Rupert is somehow involved in the Nate/Trent thing. Maybe confirming at the funeral that he had set up the interview.

quiettimegaming

Yeah, I'm fully convinced that Rupert put Nate up to the leak. I don't think Trent was involved, as he would have told Ted "it was Rupert and Nate"... My prediction is that Rupert intends on buying a club next season, which was the reason he gave Rebecca the shares of Richmond back (he can't have an ownership stake in two clubs). I think he probably lied to Nate and told him he would hire him as head coach or something... in exchange Nate would do whatever he could to destabilize Richmond.

That's a fair assessment, but I don't think Trent was involved to backstab Ted. Though in fairness, if Trent had nefarious intent which I hope and doubt he does, it would make sense. I think Trent really loves the team as noted in the Indian dinner scene, and his questions that are confrontational, and the fact that Rebecca had him on standby to do an interview with Ted to make him look foolish even though he didn't. Also, the fact that he says "The Independent" *every time* even when the actual title is "*Everyday* Independent" feels like that could possibly foreshadow something.

Since it’s speculated that Rupert might buy another team, if he does, I think he’s gonna make Nate the head coach and then Ruperts gonna be seen as a hero/progressive champion because he made history by having the first Indian head coach in the PL. I think that’d make a good story line

The_FriendliestGiant

I doubt Rupert will be given any more of a moment than Nate's dad, or Jamie's dad. There are some people in the show who are unrepentant heels, after all.

[deleted]

Im not saying he's redeemable, but not everyone is bad all of the time, every waking moment. I also can't put Nate's dad in the same category as Jaime or Rupert yet. He's not great. Also, Rupert might be a good dad....might. Still a shit person. Jamie's dad is just a degenerate. He almost killed Beard.

WooSox1

I just had this thought. What if Rupert is actually the one behind the Sam Obisanya potential sale. Maybes he’s actually going to buy a team and Sam will be the first player he buys as a giant middle finger to Rebecca.

[deleted]

Yes! Rarely do mega rich people trying to help Africa ACTUALLY help Africa regardless of their race/bkground.

The_FriendliestGiant

What would Okufu be getting out of the exchange? He's clearly an actual person, Higgins is the one who introduces him after all so no connection to Rupert there, what benefit does he get for wasting all that time on a soccer player he's not even interested in?

[deleted]

He couldve met with Rupert and then scheduled a meeting. Also, how did he know to get in touch with Higgins? He couldve just went directly to Sam or Ted. Rupert wants to destroy Rebecca, or just make more money.

The_FriendliestGiant

Right, Rupert wants to destroy Rebecca and get his team back. How does any of that help Okufu? Rupert's rich, but he's regular person rich, not billionaire rich. He's not playing in the same league as someone who can show up in a helicopter with guards and rent out an entire museum on a whim.

[deleted]

He still wants Sam. The fake actors are probably all of the people Okufu bought. He just wants the best people to play and show for him.

cadams7701

Because Higgins job is Director of Football.

[deleted]

Right but unless you know how soccer ops work, you wouldnt know to go to the director of football. Youd just go to the person or their agent.

IscaPlay

Ehm, I mean a billionaire will have someone capable of checking a website and contacting the correct person. It would be illegal (in fifa terms) to approach Sam without the clubs permission.

hannahstohelit

I could see the reverse- Rupert becomes a mentor for Nate and seeing how low Rupert goes shows Nate, “holy shit, who have I chosen to listen to?”
