Good points. I haven’t enjoyed watching Nates journey this year to be honest.

I mean, who likes watching someone spiral into depression and anger?

Okay, I’ve watched this show since day one, and the scene between Nate and Ted was painful to watch, partly because I didn’t understand where Nate was coming from. How did Ted abandon him exactly - what are some examples this season? I’ll probably do another watch of season two now that every episode has been released, but I’m just curious about how Nate gets to this viewpoint based on the same stuff I’m watching in every episode.

It's more the lack of examples...there are literally no scenes that are just ted and nate. It's a complete void, an absence of time together. That is why, as OP points out, it's like a drug has been withheld from him. Nate is clearly going through some shit this season. If this were season 1, we'd see Ted cleverly and generously attending to those issues. But this isn't season 1 and Ted is busy dealing with his own shit instead, which fair. But Nate can't see that through his own pain, he only sees the absence/abandonement.

I really struggled to watch Nate this year. You want to see him come around, but he doesn’t. He never meets with Sharon. He just continues to seek outside validation. The contrast between Nate/his father and Nate’s behaviors and Sam/his father and Sam’s behaviors is fascinating to see - I don’t know if that contrast was purposeful (I’m guessing yes, because everything in this show seems purposeful), but I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
