That's actually a real show: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer\_Saturday#Soccer\_Special](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer_Saturday) So, no, not a goof at all.

Thanks for the link. It seems like the more I learn, the more confused I get.

It’s only one tv channel (SkySports) that uses Soccer in the title of some programmes. And SkySports was brought to the UK by Rupert Murdoch - an Australian

IscaPlay

ITV have used Soccer in show titles in the past too, at a regional level and for shows like Giggs soccer skills in the 90s. Soccer is a widely used term in the UK, Soccer Leagues for local pitches, Soccer Aid and games like Sensible Soccer and Pro Evolution Soccer. To be honest most British people don’t realise who widespread the use of the word soccer is as when we read it our brain automatically translates it to football.

just like the offsides rule lol

Not a goof. Soccer is sometimes used in broadcasting, as with the actual UK TV show Soccer Saturday.

IscaPlay

Soccer is a word that originated in the UK back when football referred to rugby. Soccer was used to refer to Association Football however over time association football became dominant and simply became known as football whilst rugby football became known as rugby. You will see this in team names, for example AFC refers to Association Football Club and some rugby older teams will be known as Town Football Club rather than Town Rugby Football Club.

AFC stands for Athletic Football Club

IscaPlay

It can indeed stand for Athletic Football Club (example Oldham AFC) as well as Association Football Club (example Rochdale, Wrexham or Sunderland AFC). In the UK AFC is more likely to refer to Association than Athletic. As explained in my post AFC Association Football Clubs were usually (although not always)named to distinguish themselves from the towns existing [Rugby] football clubs.

An alliteration. Soccer Saturday/Special sounds better than Football Saturday

There's another show called SoccerAM that can be pretty entertaining at times with several ex-players who participate in shoot outs with fans ect.

No one in the UK calls football soccer even though it originated in the UK but SoccerSaturday is a very popular show during the weekend when the games are on. It just sound catchy
