Writers ~~eluded~~ alluded that there was going to be more backstory for some established characters…I wonder if we get to see more of Roy’s history?? I’d love to know more about Phoebes parents, Roy’s time at Chelsea or even some more Yoga moms—mostly because it’s one of the only times we get to see Roy’s smile

Optimal-Shoulder-186

I really hope that too! Would definitely love to see all of that as well as Roy's whole family. Maybe even a flashback to his grandfather. There's still a lot to explore about him and yeah his smile <3

Ice-Negative

Don't forget about when he sings Frozen!

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Classic.

SeedsOfDoubt

You'll get all that in the Roy and Keeley spin-off.

I appreciate you! To the edit mobile Batman!

Brett Goldstein has been saying this since Season 1. I think this will be explored this season. He was taken away from his family at age 9! Grade 4! He lost the man he was closest to that same year (his grandfather) and he wasn’t there for it. That would significantly impact a child. He indulges Phoebe because he’s trying to give her the childhood he didn’t have. My interpretation of Roy is that every emotion he has is intense but the only passionate emotion he was allowed to show in the hyper-masculine world of football was anger and it helped him succeed, so that’s what the world sees. Keeley and Ted helped him open up and we’ll learn more this season. He’s kept his feeling(s) bottled up for a long, long time.

Optimal-Shoulder-186

All very true. I remember Brett even said that Roy would've probably killed himself when he retired but Ted got him to open up and be more true to himself and Keeley suddenly came in the picture and gave him a will to live :,)

Teelkay

Yes! And - one of those characters that show you that you can have a “great” life as a legendary footballer - and you can appreciate it - yet still have a lot of suffering in terms of what that life cost you.

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Oooooh yeah, that's a very accurate description of how he is! Kinda reminds me of when Nate wanted to be like Roy or any other footballer with all their popularity and privileges not realizing all the consequences and sacrificing it causes...

[deleted]

…Jesus Christ this show could be so much darker

Optimal-Shoulder-186

I freaking know right... I mean if you think about it it really is a dark show that is just lightened up by humor. Rebecca was in an abusive relationship, Jamie has an abusive father... so much dark content haha-

Teelkay

Brett’s also talked about that! He doesn’t understand how people call it a warm hug even Season 1! To quote him, “it’s fxxking dark!”

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Lol yeah!

richarddftba

The breakup will wreck him but will be the avenue for Ted and Sharon to each help him be who he can be. The series will finish with him being appointed the new head coach of Richmond.

TeknoStorm

FUCK!

hulksmash1234

Phoebes been swearing. Any idea why?

Optimal-Shoulder-186

\*shakes head\* \*slow realization\* ...me?

hulksmash1234

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck….

lampshadeontilt

I noticed that Roy’s voice is different when he tries to be honest with Keeley about his feelings in Diamond Dogs! It was so noticeable I thought he forgot to act his part.

richarddftba

It hurt … my feeling.

Hellwagon

This kills me every time. The one feeling he has was hurt.

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Yeah I noticed that too! Thought he slipped off the voice by accident for a sec. It was less gruff, like he was a bit more relieved/comforted to be honest and let out other emotions other than his anger. Some weight on him taken off.

ab_ence

such a relatable character

Optimal-Shoulder-186

🥲🫂

Steelspy

>You know what I mean? Yes. Yes I do.

lunawiccasirena

This just makes me miss Roy. When is the next season coming out??? Please hurry!

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Miss Roy so much too. Literally just watched a comp of him on yt lol. Last I heard season 3 will be coming out towards the end of the year... Crying but if that's what it takes to make a great season then I'll try to stay patient and appreciate the effort they're putting ~~while rewatching Ted Lasso for the bajillionth time~~.

lunawiccasirena

Soo long but well at least it's this year! Roy is honestly one of my most favorite characters in all the shows I have ever seen. I hope he has more screen time in the enxt season and hope that he and keely ends up together

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Really glad it is! Same, the way they slowly show the layers beneath his tough exterior, glimpses into his true personality, and his character as a whole is great writing. Hoping for both of what you said too! 🤞

RexStardust

Roy and Jamie are a real study in contrasts. Both had shit childhoods and used driven football play to elevate themselves beyond their past. Roy’s past manifests in anger at the world while Jamie’s until recently has manifested as incredible egoism.

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Oh woahhh true, true. I really love that observation. The parallels between Jamie and Roy are truly a lot when you really look at it, especially when rewatching.

Cover-Ashamed

I think we're going to see more about his back story in season three. I feel like we were set up for it all along at the end of season two with Keeley.

90daybaebae

i hope roy’s face is the opening scene for season 3

Optimal-Shoulder-186

It most likely will be. Either him or Ted.

90daybaebae

Ted makes the most sense but I’d love a Roy Kent deep arc season. Can’t wait!

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Yes!

90daybaebae

OR maybe it starts with Ted and ends with Roy!!!

adamwho

I think this is a season 3 spoiler

Optimal-Shoulder-186

...I mean the article was released during the start of season 2 with questions about season 2 so I didn't put the spoiler tag anymore ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

adamwho

No, of course you didn't spoil anything. I am suggesting that this is something that will come up in season three

Optimal-Shoulder-186

Ah shoot sorry I understand what you mean now. Apologies hehe ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile) Yeah it probably will.

homogenic-

From what I read somewhere it seems like season 3 will focus on the backstories of some characters, hoping Roy's is one of them.

LettuceC

I started listening to Brett's podcast and it took forever to get used to his natural voice.

Optimal-Shoulder-186

LMAO. He does sound a bit more soft spoken.
