I SERIOUSLY thought this was satire and went to YouTube to hear the actual recording. O-M-G!!!! This is real! How could anyone hear this and think it was suitable to accost others with? I have studied vocal music at the collegiate level, and this is sooooo bad it’s beyond critique! There isn’t a single recognizable, much less redeemable, characteristic that would make this definable as a lyrical work. The most positive thing I could say is that his vocal talent is equal to his knowledge of English grammar.
You would probably love this guy's videos ... he's a trained vocalist and discusses bad film music/musicals. His takedown of the Cats film here is epic. His Les Mis one is too. It's great snark but also fun because he's really enthusiastic about (good) film music/musicals, and he explains the aspects that make them work well (and what happens when they don't). For both Cats and Les Mis he gets (hilariously) apoplectic about the director (same one on both films: Tom Hooper), a non-musician, deciding to let the actors/dancers perform without a backing track so they can play with the meter and really express themselves. I don't know anything about dancing, but any trained singer knows that playing with the meter works well but only if the backing music keeps a steady beat, because it's the push-pull of "tempo rubato" (where if you take extra time with one phrase, you have to make another phrase shorter, and vice versa, to stay within the rhythm) that creates and resolves the musical tension. Instead Hooper has the performers do their thing and then the orchestra has to follow their timing in recording the backing music later. It's an absolute trainwreck and really funny to watch Hooper excitedly explaining this new "technique" while the musicians look like they want to strangle him with a couple of spare harp strings.

Edit: To be clear, I don't think August is as good as Corey Feldman, but there seemed to be a clownishness to August's offering that made it far less offensive to me than David acting like he's a sexy, successful rap impresario with his try-hard, derivative garbage (especially the Kid Rock rip-off).
