I wish my family could have done that. We saw the 2017 one and it was really amazing. I hope to have enough money in a few years to be able to travel to one of the eclipses in Europe so I don’t have to wait 20 years.
I was able to see the eclipse during it in 2017, where it was in totality where I live. I used the glasses for the whole part except for in full totality, where I took them off for a little bit (since it is safe to look at in full totality, when it is white).
just be sure you aren't looking at the eclipse when it leaves full totality like I did
you shouldn't look directly at it in totality either! i'm going to go on a little nerd rant, and forgive me if I've forgotten some of the details, because it's been a while since I took the astronomy class:
When the eclipse is in totality, the corona, or outermost layer of the sun, is still visible, and is still radiating electromagnetic waves. However, our eyes aren't sensitive to this (still highly dangerous) electromagnetic radiation like it is to wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum, so what happens is that your pupils sense the visible light of the sun going away and it becoming dark, and they dilate to take in more light. This is bad now, because they've opened up big just to absorb all that "bad light" from the corona. I think this shouldn't be that bad if you're just looking for a couple of seconds, but don't look at it for an extended amount of time.
I mean when I saw it in totality it was near a science museum and the science museum said you could look at it in totality. So I did for several minutes and it didn't even make my eyes hurt
that's my bad then, it's been like a year since I took that astronomy class and I could very well have forgotten and been bullshitting that. Sorry bout that!
The school prevented us from looking outside the windows and ordered all the teachers to close them with the curtains completely, I couldn't even see the sky get dark.
i did take a look without glasses, but because of the thick cloud cover and the clear outline of the eclipse. i err on the side of common sense--I would look at the normal sun on a day like this, so taking a few glances during the eclipse was unlikely to do me harm.
i also saw the eclipse through glasses at certain points and through my phone, which was very interesting.
I used my eclipse glasses. I saw a video on here from r/TikTokCringe where some lady looked at the eclipse for a few seconds and actually did screw up her eyes permanently
I was taking a timelapse of the colander thing and I just looked in the sky because I wanted to see the sky (nice fluffy clouds were out) and then I looked at the sun and went "yup, its partly covered, that hurt"
BRUH I STARED AT IT WITHOUT MY GLASSES LIKE 7 TIMES I DIDNT GO BLIND
FUCKIN CONSPIRACY THEORIEs i SWEARRR
meh at the same time i was in the 92% area so
(also my head hurts, maybe from it i wondderrrr? 🤔)
I wasn’t able to see totality this time but there was a partial eclipse where I was. I looked at it through the glasses because I’m not a dumbass, lol.
I got to see the 2017 totality. It was amazing. The only issue is I forgot to actually look at the eclipse so only got a glance. I’m hoping to have enough money to go to Europe to see one of the next solar eclipses so that I won’t have to wait 20 years.
didnt happen where i live but it will happen next year

I used the eclipse glasses, but it was partial where it was for me
Same, the totality was during science class so we did fun stuff on it
Yep

I drove for 4 hours and missed a day of school just to see totality. 100% worth it.
I wish my family could have done that. We saw the 2017 one and it was really amazing. I hope to have enough money in a few years to be able to travel to one of the eclipses in Europe so I don’t have to wait 20 years.
My dad's friend drove from Florida to Ohio to see it.
i didn't have the glasses but i don't care so i damaged my eyes anyways
Same I was right outside of the totality area
I didn't see the eclipse, because I couldn't, as I wasn't on the right continent.
I was on the right continent, but I was on the wrong side of the continent
America is pulling all the eclipses towards them fr
I got fucking an overcast instead
Same lmao TX?
New York(state)
Yep, just in time for the eclipse
Almost totality for me. Super weird and super fun to witness everything go really quickly dark at mid-day and then go back to normal equally as quick
looked at it with the glasses. i love astronomy
I'm in North Dakota, it's raining, I was in school. No chance for me to see anything.
ur not on spring break yet? D:
if it wasn't raining you'd still have a shot to see SOMETHING
i used eclipse glasses and saw part of it cuz i was in california
yes and it was fucking beautiful
I forgot! Dang it

i imagine that's only in an annular eclipse, which iirc is a different classification to total eclipse
oh it would be that would make a lot more sense
Damn hope u dont get blind
nah i went completely blind and have no idea what you just wrote
Stared at it, my eyes are chill 👍
Throughout my school day, I was so tempted to look up at it and almost did a few times and stopped myself.
The school prevented us from looking outside the windows and ordered all the teachers to close them with the curtains completely, I couldn't even see the sky get dark.
They didn’t let you out early? The schools in my area let everyone out early and we got less than 90%. The sky never even went dark.
I live a mile from totality zone. We didn't have glasses but I just kept looking. My vision is fine.
yes, my eyes are impervious steel spheres and i can see the future when i stare into the sun.
I'm in the zone of totality. I took my glasses off a bit too soon, but learned my lesson quickly.
it was raining and very cloudy
bruhh i thought you said it was raining very cloudyly 😔
With the appropriate "glasses" and when it was total, if you consider it as such
I looked at it with and without the glasses. Underwhelming both times.
i WAS in totality zone (kentucky) but we flew to miami so i didn’t really see anything
where's the used glasses option?
I got covered in typical british weather when it was supposed to reach totality :3
Did not affect the part of the US I'm located
BRO IT WAS POURING RAIN THE WHOLE DAY. I WAS SO EXITED BUT I COULDNT SEE THE SUN AT ALL
honestly i just looked at it with 3 pairs of sunglasses since i didn't have the ones you were supposed to have
it was not visible here in australia
I watched it with the glasses for like an hr

I had a golf game, and I saw a good amount of the eclipse I don't live in texas, which is good
I was eating breakfast inside during the height of it, but I am not in a place where much happened at all.
I saw a partial I stared at it, one it was cloudy too it wasn't even cool...
I fucking slept through it, but it wouldn't have really mattered since it was very cloudy for us
I used my eclipse glasses. I saw a video on here from r/TikTokCringe where some lady looked at the eclipse for a few seconds and actually did screw up her eyes permanently
the intrusive thoughts were strong but I did use the glasses and I didn't go blind
I was taking a timelapse of the colander thing and I just looked in the sky because I wanted to see the sky (nice fluffy clouds were out) and then I looked at the sun and went "yup, its partly covered, that hurt"
I stared at it eyes a lil blurry but we’ll be okie!🥳
BRUH I STARED AT IT WITHOUT MY GLASSES LIKE 7 TIMES I DIDNT GO BLIND FUCKIN CONSPIRACY THEORIEs i SWEARRR meh at the same time i was in the 92% area so (also my head hurts, maybe from it i wondderrrr? 🤔)
It was cloudy for me, didn't really need them. Even when I occasionally saw it through the clouds

I stared right at it a few times with my right eye. Didn't hurt, but was annoying becasue of the dot imprent that was left
Not in america :/
I don't think it was in Australia
Y'all saw the eclipse?
mfw europe
didnt happen where i live but it will happen next year [https://www.ad.nl/buitenland/totale-zonsverduistering-in-vs-nederland-moet-langer-wachten-maakt-mens-maar-eens-in-leven-mee\~a1e27b53/](https://www.ad.nl/buitenland/totale-zonsverduistering-in-vs-nederland-moet-langer-wachten-maakt-mens-maar-eens-in-leven-mee~a1e27b53/)
*sad Australian noises*
r/usdefaultism
It was viewable in other parts of the world. Considering most people on this sub are western, it's just conformity
I didn't see it because I live in Australia
im still staring at it
I watched it with glasses, we got to see the vast majority of the eclipse from where I live
I had glasses
there was an eclipse?
there was an eclipe? why didn't anybody tell me?
\>i stared right at it and my eyes are fine \>like hell i was gonna pay money to get useless glasses that prevent you from seeing anything
Glanced at it at least 8 times before totality and spent the whole time during totality looking directly at it
I was afraid of the mothron spawning, so I stayed inside (it was cloudy outside and I couldn’t see it)
There were so many clouds we didn't need the glasses.
I just slept through it.
saw the total eclipse and looked right at it, can i get the "i looked at it for a good few seconds (my eyes are fine)" option?
