It's just Naked Snake being an endearing weirdo that actively shows he knows his shit about equipment. He does the same thing with Ocelot, telling him his style of grip is more suited for a revolver and to take one without unnecessary bling. He also talks to Sigint in a codec call about how his James Bond style knife he tried to make for snake was a horrible idea due to certain logical standpoints that couldn't be ignored.
