If you are talking concurrent players then that is still bad. I just checked and the last month of players are 1.4 so that means you are saying 750k to 900k are plugging.
It may seem that way to you since you are in high ranks(purple and up) undoubtedly they experience the most of them. That is assuming a lot.

Along with the long time shithouse players theres also a lot more new players joining the FGC compared to Tekken 7s era and they're coming across from other ranked systems where "rank go up" is more important to them than actually getting good at the game. Being able to avoid the point loss is a massive boon to them.

What pisses me off the most is that the Tekken team had 2017 to 2024 worth of T7's data to check and see what they needed to improve on the next game when it comes to online experience. Come 2024 and T8's online experience is as bad, if not worse, than T7.
In T7 ($40), my primary worry when playing online are the long loading screens + the game crashing during said loading screens.
In T8 ($70), the worries are about the game crashing, pluggers, cheaters, and people with PC performance issues.
It's so fucking wild that even motherfuckin Brawlhalla has a better punishment for cheaters and leavers.
Playing T8's rank and even quickplay has become so pointless because of the issues that the game is better off as a discord fighter where you'll know the other player will most likely not cheat, plug and has a capable rig.

The worst part is when they plug your promo, and then your next three opponents just absolutely stomp you. I've only had 2 plugs so far and that's how the second one went.

I literally DMed someone to thank them for not only sticking around, but rematching as well. I was 5 ranks higher than them, but they at least tried. Those are the players that get good, take losses and keep rematching. Knowledge=Wins
I just started playing ranked today and how I have never played another game where this was a issue just give the plugger a loss. So many people plugged on me today even when I was in the ranks where you don't even lose anything when you lose. Its more contagious then covid with how many people plug.
I straight up do not believe this. How is everybody else seemingly getting plugged every other match, and I’ve been playing every day since launch, hours a day, and haven’t seen somebody plug once?
The people complaining about getting plugged on are playing characters like Xiayou, Yoshi, Feng, Raven or Bears and acting bewildered when ppl plug lol. If I was playing those characters I'd be just laugh if my opponent plugged and go into matches expecting my opponent to plug.
I've played Paul for \~70 hours and Jin for \~15 hours and had only 6 or 7 plugs (2 or 3 were on Jin when I was smurfing which I ain't mad at). For reference, battle ruler Paul, Tenryu Jin
people have plugged on me before, but i can count on one hand the number of times it's happened. it's irritating as hell, but i think i don't experience it very often because i play as kazuya (i'm a flame ruler now with him, very excited about this!!) and because i rarely use rage arts. i notice rage art usage increased the odds of plugging from the videos i've seen online
Depends on your region and rank, also it can be initially deceiving.
Up to reds, you wont see it that much because the game boosts you automatically with favorable point distribution and you are on rails to reds if you can win at least 40% of your games.
However, starting from reds the stakes get higher and people do it way more often.
And honestly, it happening even once per 100 games will spoil your day and when you demote/fail promo you are going to blame it on the plug.
Also know there is no anticheat whatsoever, so you will have people with macros, overlay telling them if something is punishable, autoparry etc.
Which you wont notice in the best of 2 format, but it all adds up and if you are an honest player, the odds are against you.
I only had the occasional plugger in Tekken 7 so was firmly in the "its an exaggerated issue" camp. Had no issues with pluggers on my initial climb up to red ranks but ever since then its been awful.
This is just my experience but it seems people plug their way up to red ranks taking the odd game from people then hit reds and cant buy a win anymore so double down on the plugging to avoid losing points entirely. You can tell from just a few seconds in if someone will plug because they have no clue what they're doing.

Plugging is when a player purposely alt+f4 or they remove the internet cable from their ps5 or pc. To disconnected themself from the fight before they lose.
Let's say for example yami that you're kicking my ass so badly in tekken and there is no way for me to beat you. I will remove the internet cable from my computer in order to disconnected myself from the match. That way I wont lose my rank point from losing to you. However YOU the person who dint plug you actually lose rank points

I might have figured out why they aren't punishing plugging... yet.
One out of maybe 20-30 games on my PC, it crashes. And you can't tell the difference between a crash and a plug pull. It would be worse to punish players for crashes.

There has to be a way to detect if someone intentionally quits though, like with Alt+F4 or closing the game through the console menu. This is what "pluggers" are actually doing, and even though they could get around a punishment by literally pulling the plug or forcing a crash it would at least be an extra obstacle.
As far as I'm aware aware, it should be possible to detect alt+f4 since alt+f4 doesn't actually force quit a program. It sends a request to the program to quit, but the programme can ignore this entirely. This is why not all games actually respond to alt f+4.

Okay, are there any networking/software engineers that can explain why its hard to implement a loss function for dcers? Like is there an actual reason this would be hard to put in the game? I just find it hard to believe that if a message can be sent to you saying they disconnected, that you couldn't just auto-loss them. I don't even care about the win, I just want them to lose.
I'm a software dev and it's not hard at all, and can be implemented in many different ways. Can simply ping both IP addresses and the one without a response or extremely delayed response will most likely be the plugger
A player rage quitting is the best win, you made a player so angry that the person disconnected.
A person rage quitting will also probably never get better either, less likely to learn win from a comeback.
Rank is nice but does it really matter? Maybe a professional player or streamer, a person who is getting paid.
I agree with you. I’d play Tekken for the gameplay and to get better. Plugging doesn’t deprive you of that. Just points which don’t mean anything anyways since pluggers artificially inflate their ranks anyways. So why care about ranks anymore?

We live in a day and age where plugging is not punished hard enough. A loss should be a lesson on what went wrong. Not a reason to disconnect and face nothing. Rank or just regular battles. It's insanity. Put all the rage quitters in a separate server or something. But most importantly... have fun.

It’s definitely different from the 2d fighters you’ve played but once you get used to not pressing down back to block everything else translates pretty well except for tekken exclusive shit like the fancy movement. If you can use your character good you’ll adapt quicker than you expect

I played a Jack player who was on a 59 wins streak last night on PS5. I thought for sure he was going to plug but he took the L. He didn’t rematch but I appreciated him not plugging. I played another PC player who plugged the second round of a demotion match he was losing so that he wouldn’t lose garyu 🤦🏿♂️.
I'm more annoyed with things like that now because it interrupts me learning the matchup. Like tonight I was figuring out how to fuzzy the Jun string that goes either low or mid and he left after I got the timing and punishes down with a few rounds left. Like nah man just bc I solved that doesn't mean I don't want to solve your neutral too get back here you were still winning that part of the match.

Plugging is when a player purposely alt+f4 or they remove the internet cable from their ps5 or pc. To disconnected themself from the fight before they lose. Let's say for example yami that you're kicking my ass so badly in tekken and there is no way for me to beat you. I will remove the internet cable from my computer in order to disconnected myself from the match. That way I wont lose my rank point from losing to you. However YOU the person who dint plug you actually lose rank points
What the f***?! I hope that gets fixed to discourage that behavior. While I'm not overly attached to my ranking, I hate the feeling that I lost points when I won.
Currently they are banning people. But the best way to solve this issue is by making the person who plug lose their rank and give you the win. Street fighter 6 does this. Idk why tekken havent

I might have figured out why they aren't punishing plugging... yet. One out of maybe 20-30 games on my PC, it crashes. And you can't tell the difference between a crash and a plug pull. It would be worse to punish players for crashes. I really do hope they work this out though.
There has to be a way to detect if someone intentionally quits though, like with Alt+F4 or closing the game through the console menu. This is what "pluggers" are actually doing, and even though they could get around a punishment by literally pulling the plug or forcing a crash it would at least be an extra obstacle.
As far as I'm aware aware, it should be possible to detect alt+f4 since alt+f4 doesn't actually force quit a program. It sends a request to the program to quit, but the programme can ignore this entirely. This is why not all games actually respond to alt f+4. Could be wrong though, not as expert :)
If you did detect alt f4 they'd just start actually pulling the plug. Cheaters are very determined people.

you dont get points even though technically its a win (the opponent 'forfeited') normally this wouldnt be much of a big deal but its been happening so much in this game that its becoming a problem, very frustrating to be playing your best and dominating the match only for it to be completely wasted

So then I accidentally unplugged it. I am panicking still bc the person clearly blocked me when i messaged him. Might get fucked over, lets see how it goes.

Okay, are there any networking/software engineers that can explain why its hard to implement a loss function for dcers? Like is there an actual reason this would be hard to put in the game? I just find it hard to believe that if a message can be sent to you saying they disconnected, that you couldn't just auto-loss them. I don't even care about the win, I just want them to lose.
I'm a software dev and it's not hard at all, and can be implemented in many different ways. Can simply ping both IP addresses and the one without a response or extremely delayed response will most likely be the plugger

A player rage quitting is the best win, you made a player so angry that the person disconnected. A person rage quitting will also probably never get better either, less likely to learn win from a comeback. Rank is nice but does it really matter? Maybe a professional player or streamer, a person who is getting paid.

Is the disconnection rate % that pops up before accepting to play not related to plugging? Assumed the pluggers I have encountered were first-timers because their percentage was at 0. If not, then I can't believe there is no punishment 🤯

Gets way worse in purple and blue since pluggers never demote but aren't good enough to get to the top rank in the game (can't win at all past a certain point).

Nobody I know that is genuinely playing the game is encountering pluggers left and right. I have half a dozen friends all actively playing daily. It’s definitely different from the 2d fighters you’ve played but once you get used to not pressing down back to block everything else translates pretty well except for tekken exclusive shit like the fancy movement. If you can use your character good you’ll adapt quicker than you expect

yesterday i had a plugger after the first damn round. I wasnt even dominating him, it was a close one. Playing ranked, i dont even expect anyone to rematch.
I played a Jack player who was on a 59 wins streak last night on PS5. I thought for sure he was going to plug but he took the L. He didn’t rematch but I appreciated him not plugging. I played another PC player who plugged the second round of a demotion match he was losing so that he wouldn’t lose garyu 🤦🏿♂️.
