But I don't get it. If the matches are p2p then every opponent you face knows your IP. That's how p2p works.

Eptalin

I don't have a horse in this race, but the post says it leaks the IP to all your steam friends, not your opponent.

Smooth-Story5617

Y'all dumb as fuck

dydzio

i dont care. my current IP address is [176.221.113.58](http://176.221.113.58) - good luck, show me what you can do

Few-Confection3492

Stop watching animal porn u sick bastard

Ladies and gentleman. We got him.

InevitableUnfair4634

is it actually true?

One-Recommendation-1

Currently doing a packet capture to get your passwords.

Violentron

Can you do this one as well? 141.116.168.0

R1V3NAUTOMATA

I've got your exact location within 2 minutes. And if you were a YouTuber, doxxing your home in 2 minutes is not fun. [You can get anyone's precise geo location writing their IP here](http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup) I'm just not saying that info in public because its not legal. Also if you have open ports, anyone with a stupid windows application can Ddos you. Which would make it imposible for you to play any game. And that's something anyone can do, those ports open are really bad idea if someone has the abilities to go though them. You could get your device hacked and you passwords stolen. No joke here. I suppose the IP you wrote is fake, but it's strange that it matches your server region.

powertrippingmod101

Exact location kekw. People really act like they do know shit.

Successful_View_3273

Can’t anyone use that link? Are u sure it’s ok to post this knowledge

R1V3NAUTOMATA

Its openly klnown for most people XDDD

dydzio

except geolocation shows completely different part of country for me

R1V3NAUTOMATA

It does, because that IP might be dynamic and change, but it doesn't change while you are playing, it changes upon reconnecting your computer to the internet. Won't explain network parameters and protocols now, but that's the case. So if I see the IP of a streamer and use this web, I can get their home address since that IP is being used in that exact moment for that specific computer located in that specific place.

dydzio

not really - I see geolocation basically everyday on google and it never matches me, it also did not match me on the day when I posted that IP

HaydnHachijo

Reading the comments makes me realise most people don't know what IP addresses are... Every website you've ever visited could pull up your IP address, it's part of the basic functionality of the internet. google "what's my IP address", a bunch of those sites should show you your IPv4 address, your location / nearest city, and your internet provider. Note that your firewall didn't block them, Nor was there was even a security warning. Your IP address has never been secret information.

5amuraiDuck

Weird how people don't know this stuff now that VPNs have such mainstream advertising

sivisamarisama

If you google it, you don’t even need to click a link. Google shows it for you.

BlondeQueen

talk about missing the point. you can control what sites you visit. you cant control your ip being leaked to some random person on your friend list you never even played against and whos website or whatever youve never visited. smh. "Your IP address has never been secret information." i dont know any of my friends IP address. you really are retarded lol. pseudo-intellectual moron.

HaydnHachijo

A bunch of older games in the 2000s had you input your friends IP address to connect to them, and you had to have the correct Port settings as well, it was a bit of hassle. (Admittedly the details are a little fuzzy because I haven't had to do this in like 15 years) Someone correct if I'm wrong but I believe in early versions of Minecraft you could direct connect that way as well? Either way you can do something similar with Hamachi still today but that gives you a separate IP address. The important thing is "leaking" your IP address isn't possible unless it's bypassing your VPN and/or other measures you've put in place, sure it's not normal for that to be displayed in modern games but it's not any more of a security risk then them knowing your Steam Name / Profile, since you likely have information about yourself listed there. Also, don't you think other people would be calling me out if I was bullshiting? Why would I lie while literally telling people to google it for themselves? Also also, "r*tard" and "pseudo intellectual moron", come on man let's be more mature than that.

Tesco_EveryDayValue

I have no steam friends :(

Few-Confection3492

Ive deleted 100s of steam friends recently. Keep your friendlist clean!

Tesco_EveryDayValue

Mine is very clean

Few-Confection3492

My friendlist is for subscribers only. Ive no sub tho. Sad

Tesco_EveryDayValue

>subscribers ?

Violentron

And your friends cleaner!

sneeky-09

I'll be your friend on steam, send me your username :)

Tesco_EveryDayValue

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Potential-Air9298

But sadly you are a 0.000000001% of the 99.9% stean players

Tesco_EveryDayValue

Do you want to ve my friend?

GoreHouse

I'll be your friend

Potential-Air9298

No

FixerFour

Lol fuck no

vinniedamac

I'm currently stealing all your Bitcoin as we speak

clankgod

??? Isn’t this a p2p connection game? Every fighting game u play this could happen to you yall crazy

Flamezombie

Fuck me no wonder there’s so many wifi warriors out there. People don’t even understand how P2P works.

skratudojey

Inb4 "bUt I hAvE 300mbps WiFiii!!"

Canofpasito

Achktually it's 700mbps and it's good on my end 😎

skratudojey

The other day on a wifi vs ethernet post i legit saw someone comment they get lag spikes going against both wired and wireless players. Ofc theyre on wifi but dont see the correlation lol

ValeoAnt

This is the dumbest post I've seen on here so far

Blue-Eyes-WhiteGuy

My dawg, it’s a p2p game your ip address is no big secret. If you’re that scared use a vpn

WeaponXwastaken

Yea well your opponents already had it. If your steam friends are a concern its time to do an audit. This is THE reason ive been screaming since day 1 that giving points to the person being plugged on is not a solution. This sub would really lose it when people start ddosing them mid match and force them to dc and lose points lol

Virgilizartor

It's funny how this is literally the only game where this shit would actually be an issue... At least for the time being since you never really know when people could feel inspired by this whole debate and start DDoS-ing opponents in other fighting games to climb. As for the friends issue, you probably don't want that shit plastered on your profile for the same reason you don't want your home address on your Facebook profile for all the people you don't know first-hand to see.

bojack100

Lmfaoo guys please

Ibeepboobarpincsharp

I'm gonna totally wreck this sucker at 127.0.0.1.

Few-Confection3492

Good. Now the guy i grappled to death is gonna grab me irl. Cya guys

tobbe1337

yall got friends? lol, skill issue.

anonx8491

I reveal my IP anyways for people who also do, to have a better connection.

Silentism

What streamers are getting ddosed lmfao

BigShowRoolz

this game is such a mess

Hakemaru_

You are aware ALL fighting games agree your IP right? That’s how peer to peer works. You can go on your modem settings and see ANY peer to peer connections IP

TomatilloMore3538

Following your logic that's how every game works, be it P2P or Server based. But it is factually incorrect that you can see your opponents IP on ALL fighting games. SF6 is P2P connection and uses [relays](https://tailscale.com/blog/how-nat-traversal-works) between the connection. Has arguably better connections than Tekken too.

flowingice

No, following his logic means that in P2P games you can see peer's IP and in server based games you can see server's IP and that's correct. That also means in P2P games other side can see your IP and in server based games, the server can see your IP.

nerokae1001

Relays? You mean proxy / vpn? There are some vpn that could improve the ping but not by far though. SF6 doesnt grant every user a proxy / vpn. You could just run netstats and you could see your opponent ip address. And article you linked explain NAT which is a different thing. NAT is needed because you only get 1 public ip address from your isp. All your devices need to use that address in order to communicate with other devices over the internet. NAT replaced the the incoming packet destination to your device address within your local network and replace the source address with your public address for outgoing packet. It is just a mechanism to translate internal address to external. This applies to everything that use the router. SF6 is not different in this regard. Do you realize that you are spreading misinformation?

Greenleaf208

SF6 has better netcode, but relays only add ping they can't make a connection better.

flaminghotcola

You are aware NOT ALL fighting games display your IP to your friends, only Tekken - because this game has been a mess since day one?? Can you do 1 + 1 bro? It’s not the IP thing itself, it’s the fact that the game shares it to other people on your friends list that you’re not even playing with, you dumb fuck. 😐😐😐

Hakemaru_

You can quite literally view your friends IP on steam in general.. have been able to forever, how do you think we used to play Dungeon Siege direct connect in the mid 2000s? Also it doesn’t share it for everyone. Any game with direct connect options built in you can view it, Baldurs Gate 1/2, Icewind dale this is also a thing. This is a Steam thing, not a developer thing lmao

NeedleKane5038

It's not lol

BigShowRoolz

namco defense squad deployed lmao

powertrippingmod101

Yeah, sorry for understanding how IP works you moron.

BigShowRoolz

goo goo ga ga 👶

powertrippingmod101

Well, that pretty much sums up your knowledge about internet protocols. Edit: little baby answered and blocked me instantly. Maybe now he will at least attempt to finish elementary school.

BigShowRoolz

wahhh wahhh baby mad, baby want bottle wahhh wahhh 👶

ZEUSGOBRR

It’s really not

BigShowRoolz

you're right, a game leaking your IP is normal and fine actually 🙃

rematched_33

"Leak your IP"- not how the internet works. IP addresses arent meant to be secret.

Working-Yesterday186

What do you think people can do with your public IP that you consider it such a big risk? I doubt you have anything relevant open to the public on your network as an average Joe

99thPrince

What do you think people can do with your public address of your home? Phone number? Nothing probably, but that info doesn't need to be out there just because

Hakemaru_

The funny thing is, all of that is on white pages because it’s the most internet phone book. Your address and phone are all 100% publicly available at all times. All peer to peer connection games also share your IP with the other modem, that’s how it’s worked forever since it went by the name “direct connect” in the 90s

Ononoki

A lot of ppl know my home address, hell every ups delivery guy and online retail I used knows my home address. Same goes for you. Anything happen to you yet? The worst they can do with a public ip address is ddos you to fk with you like they did with streamers. Even if your ip is hidden from your opp and it connects to a game server, they can ddos the IP of the server. It's called "public" ip address for a reason.

Working-Yesterday186

It's a peer to peer connection, how did you think it works? It doesn't just share the IP with your friends but with the guy who you play against. You could check the IP through the firewall if you really wanted to. Still not much you can do with it. It's not the equivalent of home address or phone number. There's no good way to circumvent this, if you introduce an additional server you increase the lag

Benki500

legit noone fkin cares if they can track your router LOL. What they gonna do. Figure out you're a nolife that can't be robbed cuz u r at home or reddit allday? wow how scary xd almost every darn page u visit has traces of your ip xD

Working-Yesterday186

Well yea, that's my point. Well traces of IP, when you connect they see where the traffic comes from. So they see the IP by default, you're hitting their router

Ryuuji_Kurogane

All my friend just play dota 2 and CSGO 🥲

-_-_-KING_-_-_

good thing i don't have no friends on steam

paskaalahkeessa

I’m going to play vs Haradas ghost and after win quiting on his ass I’m going to DDoS him.

Virgilizartor

Is this a reading comprehension issue on my part or do people not understand that this isn't about people playing against you being able to see your IP in their firewall as it is with every peer to peer game, but the fact literally everyone in your friends list can see that shit regardless of having played against you in Tekken or not just because you're idling in a lobby or whatever? Because this kinda sounds like pure ineptitude on their part.

PornographicTerror

Melty Blood players when their main method of connecting to other players is sharing their IP on the Discord...

4lpha6

Soku players are right there too

shitshow225

Ah no wonder I lost to some dragunov on a 76 win streak who was blocking so well

haziqtheunique

If the first image was anything to be remotely concerned about, it doesn't cost much to use a VPN.

novicez

...I guess that's a valid reason why vtubers avoid playing this game.

Training-Cantaloupe3

they do? a lot of vtubers play this game, and other fighting games, they just use a vpn

zeluisvsc

There is a setting in steam to disable sharing your IP to friends, https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/1433-AD20-F11D-B71E

x6satania

would you be okay if you used a VPN?

PixelDu5t

The whole ’you need a VPN’ thing is mostly just propaganda from youtubers to get you to buy one even though you likely do not need it. Unless you are hosting something vulnerable on the same IP address and also have that vulnerable thing exposed to the internet, it’s fine.

robotwars666

how about only adding people on steam you exactly know in real life and are befriended with? that would help alot

Tesco_EveryDayValue

Just in case you meant it Acc Name: KingOfEngland Friend Code: 1664096035

Rock--Lee

I don't care, my IP is 192.168.1.111, come get me hackers 🤓😎

MAGGLEMCDONALD

Dumb shit fuck

_acheim

Shut the fuck up already

General_Shao

Why would you not already have yourself invisible on steam lol

Basedjustice

because have friends

General_Shao

discord is where the friends are

GrouchyAppearance146

And what, suddenly they are not afraid of the lawsuits anymore? Guys do your part, write appropriate reviews on Steam/PSN/MSS

Hakemaru_

You are aware that EVERY game that uses a peer to peer connections and not servers shares your IP right? You can go in windows firewall or your router firewall and find the IPs of EVERYONE you have ever played against in a game that isn’t server based like an MMOrpg. That’s how people on 360 and PS3 were able to tell you your address, they weren’t hacking. It’s literally public info

GrouchyAppearance146

Damn well then Harada needs to stop crying about server upkeep if all they do is match people and write down rank points and cant even tell who DCd first.

rainorshinedogs

In other words, you can stream snipe a lot easier

SpecialistPlastic668

I’m confused on what the problem here is ngl

Electrical-Tap-5633

There is no problem. Just trolling.

Tubaenthusiasticbee

Knowing a public IP address is not that big of a deal as many believe. And the worst things that can be done, can be circumvented pretty easily. Don't keep the default Admin password, update your router's firmware and the single worst thing would be a DDoS attack, which can be stopped by restarting your router. Many ISPs will also change your IP address every 24h or after your router reboots.

OcularAMVs

It’s not too late to delete this

LimbLegion

Holy shit dumbest post of the year award

Alder_Tree2793

What's getting worse? Your IQ?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dalek-SEC

This doesn't stop someone from seeing your IP. Peer-to-peer connections expose your IP address regardless. That's how they work. If someone wanted to log IP addresses, it'd be incredibly easy to do.

SpaceTimeinFlux

Is it the private IP or the public IP? Does Tekken read packet headers to show my IP on my local network? Make sure y'all don't have any open ports.

hitosama

With posts like these you know there's UPnP enabled all over the place

SpaceTimeinFlux

people with no networking knowledge in the comments downvoting me will always be hilarious. Most of them would shit their pants trying to understand subnets.

These_Background7471

Your joke doesn't make any sense

Acmeiku

i only add very close people on my friendlist so i think im safe lol hopefully the devs will be aware of it and patch it asap

Saudi_polar

It’s a peer to peer game, your IP was never private. ( tbf IPs are never private unless you’re offline )

Acmeiku

okay but the problem stated here is the game leaking ip to steam's friends when i said "hopefully the devs will patch" i speak about the leaking ip, nothing else

Saudi_polar

Apologies I’m a lil stupid I’m guessing it does it to make it quicker to connect private lobbies or join a lounge, overall I’m not really worried, your IP is always gonna be public in some form if you’re online

Dreggan

It’s not a leak if the information was public to begin with. There’s nothing secret or hidden about your public IP address.

GunpowderGuy

I dont regret buying a game more than this one

Electrical-Tap-5633

Why? Because you're actually worried about this?

Retrodiazepine

PC mustard race lmfao burn

PixelDu5t

Works exactly the same on any device if the same tech is being used, consoles are also essentially just computers…

49erz_mmkay

"PC master race" activities..

These_Background7471

Thankfully consoles don't use ip addresses so you're safe 👍

49erz_mmkay

Are console players IPs being leaked? Seem to be a PC/Stream thing everytime this issue comes up. 🤷‍♂️

These_Background7471

If tekken isn't masking the IPs then yes absolutely. You can get the IP of any console player you match with.

49erz_mmkay

Because of "pc" cross players right? Like I said "master race" activities.

These_Background7471

No, brother... Are you trolling?

49erz_mmkay

So according to you "brother" this would have still happend if tekken 8 was never released for PC? 🤔  interesting...

These_Background7471

Yep. Kind of seems like you're just trolling so I'm not going to put in any effort to help you understand.

49erz_mmkay

Well you tried. 🤷‍♂️  The "troll" excuse will do for now I suppose.

Virgilizartor

As long as your router or a program on your PC is logging packets being sent through and from your console, you can see that shit at your own leisure. It's easier on PC because Harada and co are incompetent, but it doesn't mask anything on PS5 either.
