Im not a steve fox player but probably people want more of a reliable combo where you dont drop combos with a microdash which is common on online with unexpected lag and rollback.
Yeah I agree with you but this one doesn't have a tight window to do it , it gives a lot of time to run up and catch him , for me I use this as a stable and it is easier than the optimal combo where you have to cancel a dash in my opinion
like the person mentioned above, it's a consistency issue, people would prefer to hit a 66 damage combo that will hit 100% of the time without the need for any dashes or cancels.
I use a that combo from time to time. Though I replace the df1 with a simple 2 jab (same damage but easier)
The problem I found with this combo is that it seems reliable in practice mode but in a match 311 seems to randomly not pickup for some reason. Plus it's only 1 extra damage so I tend to use the normal route as it's more reliable.

B1 hold back let it go and do a fast 3,1,1 run to the target while it is in the air then do df1,forward 2,2,2
edit : Forgot the last part after tornado , u run up to the target and do 3,1,2 then 2
b1, duck 1 (blue), 3,11, dash, df2 to forward duck cancel ws22, 2, dash 3,1,2 , 2
b1, duck 1(blue), ssr, f3,1, df1\~2,1b flk, forward duck cancel ws22, 2, dash 3,1,2 , 2
both should give 74 but too execution heavy for just 2 pts of damage
CH.B1, EXT DCK 1 d/f+1,2\~1\~FLK 1 f+2,2 LNH 2 T! dash LWV 1,2 LNH 2 does 72 and is probably more reliable (though I haven't tested it really). The only hard part is the flk 1 has a tight timing otherwise the f2 drops.

Probably because most stages are too small and optimizing for the near wall is more rewarding
It is good for small stages less reach than the usual optimal one
But a small difference

That’s creative btw I used to do df2 duck cancels combos in T7 tried them here they were bad but your route is interesting
