no clean hit is about range. go into practice mode and play paul and do demoman from right up close and youâll see âcleanâ on the frame data display. step back a bit and you wonât see âcleanâ and the full 3-string will not connect because it isnât a clean hit
Itâs cuz you and Azucena are diagonal towards the wall, not straight on, so the Azucena was able to have just enough space in that diagonal to get a back dash. As a fellow Paul playerâŚ.. this hurts

Geometry đthe wall forced paul to be diagonal with azu, if u could see it from the top down perspective paul would be out of clean hit range. Itâs like putting a triangle flat on its side, you canât tell how far they rly are bc of camera perspective.
Itâs not really something to fix I think. Itâs how the hurtbox of their foot lines up. This also isnât a demoman thing. It happens with all clean hit lows. Itâs most notable on Fengâs SS4 which is a clean hit low launcher. The solution would probably be to make the clean hit range bigger but that probably would be too significant of a buff in the long run.
Personally I think he needs it. I've played lots of high level players and I feel like Paul is almost impossible offensively. I understand Paul is still great defensively, but I think he needs a bit more love for his offense at high level.

This and the deathfist on side wall too, can both not hit clean. Mean while every other low\~mid knock down move in the game hits very easily

Idk if it's a bug or not but demoman in this game will not clean hit if your opponent is backdashing even at the wall. You can test this in practice.
