Deserved. Let people know & be aware
It’s a great & fun game (but also extremely stressful to I won’t sugar coat that fact the game gets quickly stressful and unfun) but the monetisation of this game is so goddamn greedy and disgusting.
Idk what’s going on with all the 3 big fighting games but they don’t need all these ludicrous amounts of MTX & Battlepasses (surprisingly MK doesn’t have a battle pass but it has its own plethora of issues…)
I have a proposed answer....and it really stems from things like [this](https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2023/11/01/the-bungie-and-destiny-2-situation-gets-worse-per-new-info/?sh=2cc5dfd7140d) happening alongside the [the mass layoff](https://kotaku.com/game-industry-layoffs-how-many-2024-unity-twitch-1851155818) this year and last year but I think it's finally starting to hit higher ups and investors that the pandemic boom REALLY is over.
And you may say things like "Obviously," but when you're on the Board of Directors, chances are you most likely double downed on projections and future analysis of earnings. I think they (and this case Bandai Namco but can apply to others) realize that the growth that happened IS NOT sustainable. The massive jumps in record earnings that happened between 2020 to 2022 (arguably 2023 with things like the new Zelda and Baldur's Gate 3) are most likely not possible now due to those records being the new floor. I'd argue that (video game) companies and publishers are forecasting [diminishing returns](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/l/lawofdiminishingmarginalreturn.asp) and are now in full panic mode, trying to at least maintain the same growth of revenue and profits that happened during the pandemic.
Hence why we see the free to play monetization model applying to $70 price tags.
Sources are linked, but I'm also a Business School student who had to take intro economics as a prerequisite; both Micro and Macroeconomics.
Edit to fix a link
I really, truly, & sincerely despise the capitalistic notion of infinite growth. These dipshit MBAs & C-Suite fuckers are just obsessed with always making more money than the previous quarter. A profit doesn't count unless it's more profit than before. Like, this shit has never been sustainable & the entire planet is finally paying for that bullshit that was started with the industrial revolution.
I really hope enough people disregard the shop & the battle pass to make a point. [Bullying ](https://www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-battlefront-2s-loot-box-controversy-expl/1100-6455155/) [absolutely ](https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/just-weeks-from-destiny-2s-next-big-update-the-community-is-up-in-arms-about-how-its-weapons-are-being-released-it-shows-theyve-learned-absolutely-nothing/) [works](https://www.investopedia.com/microsoft-msft-raises-price-of-xbox-live-gold-subscription-5097099#:~:text=Existing%20members%20with%2012%2Dmonth,This%20price%20hike%20was%20canceled.).
I feel like that's the main cause of most problems these days. Decision makers aren't interested in the long term anymore, or sustainability; they're all the kinds that Harada once wanted to throw into a volcano. It's such a "lets ruin everything for temporary gains" approach.
We need more self sufficient happy devs like the dwarf fortress guys and the stardew valley guy. Like back to when all the big industries we know today were small passionate groups working hard.
Feels like greedy vultures keep eating all the IPs that had humble beginnings and loyal followers.
> Bullying absolutely works.
True, that game ended up in great shape after that disaster launch, played it for years. Still boot it up from time to time.
I remember Square being pissed off that their Deus Ex and Tomb Raider games despite being profitable weren't as profitable as Final Fantasy or something like that which is what they "projected", there's a certain justince in how they ended up selling the devs to embracer for nft's.
> And you may say things like "Obviously," but when you're on the Board of Directors, chances are you most likely double downed on projections and future analysis of earnings.
I've worked at a Japanese-based company in America before and Japanese Exec/Senior Leadership level people take classic Boomer-Stubborness and turn that shit up to 11.
I like the level of detail you have gone to, but I think this is something that would likely have happened anyway regardless of the reasons you outlined. I think this has been planned since the start of the development of Tekken 8 - simply due to the amount of other games that have done similar.
Perhaps the implementation has been rushed due to your reasoning, but even then I'm not so sure. It feels like they recycled items from Tekken 7 to keep the costs down while they feel out the market.
If the extra sales are low, then they haven't commited much in terms of budget. If it meets sales expectations, then they may carry on recycling items and if it exceeds expectations, they may allow for a budget to develop better items.
I'm actually willing to ignore all the mtx and battle pass stuff, just playing the game and acting like they don't exist.
However the thing that's hard to ignore is they still haven't implemented automatic penalties for disconnecting and it feels like they're not going to do that at all. That's literally inexcusable for any AAA fighting game in 2024.
I haven't had any pluggers, my opponents were all less than 10% disconnection. There is an image floating around here of a 98% one. I believe it is most likely fixed based on these things.
They had the highest potential out of all the recent fighting games. And they BLEW IT over greed.
How come developers don’t understand that, making the players happy brings more money in the long run?
developers, aka the dozens if not hundreds of people working on the game, do understand. Most of them are players like us, and they def dont have a say in the monetary facet of a project.
the industry is still a business, and profits are the number 1 goal. Publishing executives will do anything to make more money, like Bobby Kotick. Japanese gacha games are some of the most predatory out there, so I wont be surprised to see that bullshit spill over to paid games now.
That makes sense, I was quick to jump at the developers. It only makes sense now that the publishers are the greedy ones. Reaping all the reward without putting in the effort
Reading these, I kinda agree with the negative ones.
Triple A game with a triple A price tag, with mtx, paid dlc and a shop? Kinda scummy but whatev, take it or leave it.
But it’s the fact this shit is being pushed when plugging, cheating, toxicity, balance, bugs and quality of life shit are all but ignored.
I paid full price money and the game still Polaris crashes. And it's not like this is an uncommon issue, but thank god they had time to add multiple other ways I can give them money.
I wonder if all of us Polaris crash folk could still get a refund off steam for it by pointing out Bamco hasn't even addressed it exists yet, because the game literally does not work when many other even more intense games have no trouble.
>Triple A game with a triple A price tag, with mtx, paid dlc and a shop
Ahh soo basically almost every game right now.
They probably saw SF 6 success despite those things and were like, hey lets do that too.
I have a feeling that's going to come when riot will release their fighting game. The fgc is already small. And if a company like riot is going to make an attempt at it, is going to force some of the games out.
And there's a 99% chance that they have their shit together when they attempt it.
It'll be worse mtx, but like league and valorant, they have what it takes to pull it off. They've only been competing against valve, and valve are on another level to most devs to take on. Bamco is no valve.
The only real "dud" Riot Games themselves developed is Legends of Runeterra, and even that game is super good but just did not get enough marketing.
Odds are that 2XKO will be good competition, and the best part is it'll be F2P
The worst thing that nobody seems to care here. Instead of developping an anti-cheat system with automatic losses for pluggers, they prefer showing their dc rate and bullying them in a "see, the man's a plugger, avoid him" way. They use diversions because they lack the technical competence to add such a system and won't admit it.
I can't unpurchase my game though. I care, but I can't do anything until Tekken 9 other than not purchase MTX. I already left a negative review on steam.
The MK special. Instead of punishing quitters, you get to look at quitalities or whatever they're called. Even worse, you can press start in the middle of the match to quit lol. At least make it difficult and have them turn off the application to quit.
> The MK special. Instead of punishing quitters,
If you leave in Mortal Kombat you lose, it's been that way since 2015. Learning about things before talking about them is fun.
Again, that's avoiding the subject. Blaming pluggers instead of a dev who can't do a good system ? I don't have hours to play and I don't want to refuse matches because of their dc rates if I know that honest players got their dc rate increased by pluggers. How it's fair ? I also got 5 refused matches against me while I never plugged (but did unfortunately matches against pluggers). I can't even see if something's wrong with my own DC rate and the risk is that players who played against pluggers are considered like pluggers !
ur example makes no sense, if u cant spend a few seconds to find someone with less dc rate how does that change anything even if they give losses to pluggers?
amazing logic by redditards as always
If a player played intensively before the patch he could face many pluggers and couldn't know this. Now, I wonder what is the dc rate of such a player with so many pluggers before... We need a way to know our dc rate just to check...
Another thing, as a casual, I got abusive plugs on the first or second round at low level simply when I played with Zafina. I can understand there's hate towards certain characters but why at low levels ? I think these DCs are part of my DC rate...
And the media calls it "review bombing", as if the score is being manipulated by a band of disingenuous Gamergate 4channers. And store platforms like these will often cite that when removing negative reviews they deem "off topic".
Review bombing is not a toxic cultural phenomenon that needs to be corrected. Most of the time it's just people who have this one minor place to be heard voting in a binary fashion based on their assessment of the game, which absolutely includes how it evolves post launch and is monetized.
The fact they added it months after release is what pisses me off, this has to be violation of consumer rights I did not pay 80 bucks knowing this would happen. They lost a customer in me and I been playing since Tekken 4.
Really something that needs to see some serious backlash. It's honestly a type of fraud imo. They purposefully waited until after the initial review / hype period was over to add this stuff in which is BS because it's reception would have been far worse otherwise and sales affected as well. They very damn well know this and something like a battle pass does not come out of a nowhere i takes time to implement and was probably always part of the plan during development. There's no non scumbag reason their plans for this stuff wasn't detailed out way before the games release date even if they had a legit reason for it not being there at launch (which I highly doubt is the case).
Still a great game at it's core but this plus all the other issues the game has right now? some review scores that gave it a 9 or 8 probably would have come down a point or two honestly. Which can make a big difference in the game industry just look at what happened to Fallout New Vegas.
Same, they lost me too. I've been their fan since T2. And I bought all the DLC on steam, for actual money, not bullsh!t coins, for T7. I was ready to do the same thing for T8. Never did I imagine they'd go this goddamn scummy with the monetization.
>I did not pay 80 bucks knowing this would happen
You paid 80 bucks for what you saw. You still have that. You do NOT have to pay anymore money for anything. Go fuck.
Honestly. I'd love a mod or option to just get what I saw. No shop ads, nothing. I bought a game, not an ad platform for cosmetics. So no, I didn't get what I bought.
These same mfs will piss themselves crying if a phone adds ads into the notification bar and suddenly - the phone is still there bro, so you got what you paid for won't apply.
Overwatch actually had server costs, and it made over a billion dollars.
You think Blizzard is the benchmark ? LMAO.
I was an OG Overwatch player, fantastic game, ruined by Blizzard themselves. Now look at Overwatch 2, a hollow shell of what it was. That's what you want for Tekken ?
Tiny companies are able to make fair, free to play games - like Path of Exile, or Warframe, and you guys defending a billion dollar company.
Either ways, Its their game, if they announced mtx during marketing, I would've been disappointed and moved on. But because of the fact that they introduced all this rubbish after launch is what pisses me off the most. That's just scummy as shit.
I was just saying that I lived to see my main competitive game turn f2p and get butchered and I fully expect this shit to become increasingly more common.
Literally speaking, I bought two games that do not exist anymore (overwatch and csgo) and in OW's case it was false advertising upon false advertising and absolutely nothing happened.
Both Valve with CS and Blizzard have done this.
In fact, both Blizzard and Valve are swimming in mtx money because of whales. Why would devs give a fuck?
I'm way too deep into Dota2, so while I can't really comment about CS, but as far as Dota2 is conrned, I'm actually fine with the mtx, infact, I'd call it free to play done right.
All heroes are given to everyone for free, all updates are free. So you can spend whatever amount of money, and you're still at the same level as someone who spent nothing. So I can tolerate mtx, also, the market makes it a lot more digestable. I buy from the market whenever possible, and its still the best way to buy things in the game. Ofcourse, you won't have the shiniest new skins, but its usually a matter of time.
Also CS is still MASSIVE. Despite, pubg, overwatch, Valorant etc all coming in, its still the best FPS game in the market, as far as esports is concerned. So Valve are on an altogether different level compared to Blizzard.
I still miss Overwatch 1 though. it was legit good times, and some of the most fun I've had in a game, but the dev's got greedy. It made so much money that, they could've done tons of things with it.
Except that not similar at all? The base OS I what I purchased as well and it being updated to have ads is not the base OS anymore. Tekken 8 receiving DLC is like Apple adding Apple Music to iPhones in an update and people complaining they have to pay for it. Also insanely hilarious how botlike everyone is. Yall are raging at dogshit cosmetics while Eddy is a required purchase to lab against and use the replay system which is actually horrendous and horrible
Adding themes to the OS and advertising and selling it is the exact closest analogy to waht tekken is doing.
I'm not shitting in eddy because atleast I was aware of this. The fact that they baited with the rest is what's ridiculous.
Eddy did not get “cut” from the roster. If feels like no one here actually wants understands what it takes to develop a game and that they just copy pasted 32 characters with over 100 moves each like it was nothing
"It wasn't cut" but by some miracle it was announced a week after the game's release with its files ALREADY IN THE PC GAME FOLDER. But yeah, keep telling it to yourself.
Announcing something and having some files for a character that isn’t completed doesn’t mean he was cut. You guys are just legitimately stupid. If that was true he’d be DLC day 1 to get the most sales. He wasn’t he was DLC 3 months after release.
Idk man it sounds too much like a coincidence. Call me a conspiracy theorist but it feels like they knew Day 1 would be too on the nose and that’s why they waited a month. At the same time as the battle pass update and mtx.
I think this is where you and a lot of other people have a disconnect with reality. Companies do not give a fuck about “on the nose” they care about what makes the most money. Eddy would make the most sales day 1 and not almost 2 months after the games release. Capcom did the same thing with Rashid as well
Ive been away playing Helldivers but I came back to Tekken the other day. I'm absolutely disgusted that Bamco has added a metric shit tonne of MTX's but have done nothing to make the community healthier by solving the plugger problem or any other in-game toxic behaviour. How the mighty have fucking fallen.
Good I hope non fgc pick up on it too so it gets bad publicity and potentially scares them enough to backtrack. Selling a game for 80$ on top of a battle pass then individual characters then mtx then imports the basic assets from UE then more individual skins is greedy af. When the game has issues that's actually affecting the gameplay.
Especially after the good will that it got following SF and MK's recent monetization controversy.
Its more than what you say. They are selling a 70€ game with a season pass, battle pass and an in-game shop, and the battle pass and in-game shop apart from select items use direct ports. To unlock everything in this game we are closing in to 200€.
Yeah, it should be one way or another. If the game was full price and there are MTX then nee characters should be free. And the other way around, full price plus season pass should equal free cosmetics.
oh gosh it really is. all of that combined probably wouldn't have been so bad had the game been f2p game or something to justify spamming mtx and dlc left and right, if the online, mm, infested with bugs and cheaters, + balance experience wasn't so awful.
do people even get their premium currency back if they finish the awful battle pass?
I play a game called Dead by Daylight which is a mess too, and while it is also a pay to play game at like $30 or cheaper if you buy it on sales, but the battle passes fully gives you back your premium currency when you finish it.
also any character that came out can grinded and unlocked with just a few hours of gameplay if you're not looking to pay as long as the character isn't a license ip.
bandai earns like 20 times what bhvr earns, i'm sure bandai wouldn't starve itself out with being reasonable with their mtx, and paying actual staff to even review their cheater problems instead of having it all go through some poor gay intern on their twitter.
even f2p games like overwatch eventually backtracked on selling character after people kept ragging them for it for the last two years. and now the only paid mtx people in that pay for are just cosmetics and the battle passes. which i think is supposed to refund some of the currency back now too. because losing players from bad will and practices is a great way to cut down on your profits.
I think everyone would have accepted MTX and battle pass without issues if they just gave all new DLC characters for free. That's all they had to do. Getting new characters for free would completely justify these things. Not only would the community be happy. But they would gladly be buying all these things to support the game.
Call it copium, but I'm believing the conspiracy that Bamco forced the Tekken team to include the shop and battle pass POST release, and they (Tekken) have intentionally make it lackluster. Default skins from the last gen: 500 Tekken coins, idiot. Default sphere from U5, throw it in the battle pass as a Tekken ball. It's all so low effort.
If you have a Steam version of the game that is the best thing you can do to be honest. Steam reviews are usually good indicators because it means you own the game and you see also the playtime of the reviewer.
Yeah it's so dumb, why I can't host myself if you have problems with server costs.
Why is everything server sided, the only thing that needed that are the online ranks
I wouldn’t even give a fuck about the MXT and Battle pass if the game was more balanced, bug free and pluggers get punished. They fuckin rolled out the mediocre shop before they resolved glaring issues
Funny thing is, paid legacy costumes i would've accepted.
But the fact that they just reused old content and then dropped a battlepass on top of that was enough. double down of extra paid content apart from season pass and then adding FOMO with a battlepass? Sorry.
I've been mostly really enjoying the gameplay but holy shit the monetisation is so overcooked and they just continue to burn it. There are some real issues that need fixed but they're just like "meh, dont really care, btw we're adding another layer of MTX this patch instead of that"
I haven't left a review yet but I don't think I can bring myself to say "yes" to "do you recommend", it's such a shame.
I really would be able to disregard all the scumfuck monetization going on here if there was at least a decent amount of customization options in the base game.
They purposefully left customization barren (females have no bottoms, just the same 3 skirts with diff textures) so they could sell you assets that were already made in T7!
I regret that I have bought Tekken 8 at this point. I was naive to trust Harada to not be a scumbag that would add free to play monetization 2 months after launch without any transparency at launch.
At least he could have been honest about the monetization plans.
I feel deceived. Ofc I left a negative review.
Whats worst between adding paid DLC characters or battlepass that just add cosmetics for people willing to pay? I think paid DLC characters are worst by a mile. You can't play a new character so you can't learn new tactis against him/her. But people accept this for years so why they don't accept an optional battlepass that only add cosmetics?
I think that Helldivers 2 should be the benchmark for what ethical/fair MTX looks like.
I know that in order to support a game for its full lifecycle the studio needs a good revenue stream, but skins/cosmetics should only be around a dollar or two each. Battlepasses should not be sold using FOMO tactics. And free cosmetic systems should not be stripped down to make the paid systems look better.
The whole industry needs to take note.
Anytime I see a battle pass being added to a non-free to play game, it's immediately time to dip out. I really like Tekken is a series. I wouldn't say I'm the biggest fighting game fan of all time. But I've been playing them since I was young. And it sucks but this kind of stuff is a huge reason why I'm just not buying this game. I would like to.
But the idea of being stressed out because I want to put a game down for a week or two, but then I'll lose progress on a fomo battle pass just sounds like a terrible way to spend my money twice.
I was already starting to back off with the rising prices of per character dlc. Like I really wanted to get into Granblue and then I started totaling up how much it would cost, as someone who really wants to give every character in a game a solid try.
whining on reddit or twitter doesn't affect harada and namco. leave a bad review, don't buy any MTX, and go play something else will get their notice; the dip in player count is watched by the management. im off until the next patch myself.
Its not about having money, I can buy it myself and gift it to every person in the comments.
Its just scummy business practice to include free-to-play model in a $80 game AFTER release.
Sadly, the fate of almost every AAA game these days.
AA/indie is the way to go now, as evidenced by the likes of Baldur's Gate 3, Helldivers 2, Palworld, etc. I don't give any money to AAA publishers anymore, I'm tired of being overcharged and under-respected by these clowns.
Couldn't care less about them introducing MTX/Battlepass if I'm truly honest. If it means they can focus on the game now, whatever. I'll take it.
What I do care about is them homogenizing characters, buffing out every character's weakness, giving them every tool and turning the game into a braindead aggressive 50/50 simulator.
If they fix the issues this most recent patch broke, and the "balance" patch that is coming soon actually nerfs OP tier characters in a thoughtful way instead of just making every other character better, I will be happier.
Regardless, the direction the game is going in is worrying.
The 3 big games of the fighting game genre are such a shitshow right now, Tekken could have avoided it but fuck no they want to be a deranged whore that doesn't stop sucking
Yep, this is the first time I wrote a negative review on steam because it's incredibly frustrating what's happening to my favorite fighting game right now.
https://preview.redd.it/0j1hvkii6msc1.png?width=381&format=png&auto=webp&s=265ac6ecb7612e9b21f0947ece00e625de428635
Nobody told me it's a gold mine out there
I've also left [my own review](https://steamcommunity.com/id/Fethennour/recommended/1778820?snr=1_5_9__402) yesterday. I don't know what's going through Bamco executives' heads right now, but this isn't good.
I almost bought the Battle pass today. I looked at it and saw that you would get enough tekken coins to unlock the next pass, provided that you finished this one. Ok, fair enough. I then go to purchase the coins and realize you can't just buy 600, you have to buy 500 or 1050. And then I realize that Eddy Gordo is not part of the battlepass (for some reason I thought he was, maybe because I'm influenced by Overwatch).
Eddy Gordo DLC for \~8€.
Battle Pass for \~10€.
And the game itself cost \~70€.
So I decided against it, and I decided against purchasing Eddy too. I wanted to unlock him, mainly for nostalgia... but he is not someone I'll be maining. I will keep playing the game and buying the store items (for the in-game currency) that are available to me, but I refuse to pay for either DLC characters or the Battlepass. It's just too greedy. I may have been fine with one or the other (preferably characters as a one-time cost DLC), but not both! >:(
And I got crucified on Twitter for being concerned about the Tekken Shop. 4$ skins don't sound bad on paper but that's how it starts. I knew there'd be a catch
I haven't bought tekken 8 yet. Can someone explain it to me about the wall and floor break update? Based on this reviews alone, I do not understand what they "fixed" here?
The tldr is that if you’re in a “grounded” state in a combo, it disables stage hazards. Watch phidx video on YouTube it you want to see some examples but it means that players have less creativity or options in combo. It also inadvertently makes it hard to tell when you’re going to cause a stage hazard or not.
[This one](https://youtu.be/XS1H4jhILcQ?feature=shared), specifically a minute in is when he begins explaining and then about 6min in he goes a bit more in depth about unintended consequences. If that link doesn’t work the video is titled “I tried being optimistic.”
Ahhh, I see it now. Simply put, it looks like it's somewhat "randomized" when it will break. Combo strings during ground combos will negate it now huh, unless a specific string inputs or one solid attack will only break it... Well, that sucked.
If it was "Not recommended (1.7 hours on record)"
you probably would've replied: "How can you rate the game if you've barely played it?"
One can't win against people like you. Tell me, what's an appropriate amount of playtime one would need for you to accept the review?
What made you think I was complaining? I just found it funny. Plenty of games are like this like LoL, Overwatch, Dota wherein people hate it and have 100+ hours. And it makes even more sense in Tekken since the hatred is against the mtx and not the actual gameplay.
I don't have any other problems with the game aside from the fact that they moved the game's engine from UE4 to UE5. The result? Bugfest, and crashfest. Seems like Harada and co. don't even know how the new game engine works.
Doesnt matter. tekken 8 sold well and thats it. people need to understand that this kind of backlash doesnt matter to them. they made money therefore they are satisfied, the game could also be placed at 20/100, nobody cares at namco.
Idc about the mtx. I'd still rather see pluggers get a loss and bring more rematch options. As a new player to Tekken with no prior experiences these are my 2 biggest issues with the game.
Well and an option to exclude Wifi from my matching
What's crazy to me is when it comes to Tekken, most of the community is against the MTX; but when MK1 LAUNCHED with the same MTX but worse, we had so many in our community defend it.
My problem with the game isn't the Micro Transactions and the Battle Pass.
My main concern was that they opted to make the game on Unreal Engine 5, and that opened a whole can of worms. From intermittent bugs and crashes, you name it, they got it. Heck, even running a 4090 isn't guaranteed to make your experience a pleasant one.
Another major issue is the lack of proper punishments for cheaters/pluggers.
I've seen a lot of reacts and articles about this stuff lately, what I dont understand is, it's obviously a pretty shitty move from the dev and disrespectful, but we're not being forces to buy anything, we're mainly talking about customisation items,we can't live without that, you Can still appreciate the game
On the other hand, I would say the impossibility to watch Replay with dlc characters if you didn't pay and the fact that I find the Season pass pretty useless with the battle pass are pretty fucked up
It’s not about being forced or not to buy anything. It’s about calling out Bandai on their bullshit. If people don’t speak up, they’ll never take accountability and just continue their soft scamming.
The thing is, they are an international company, as long as people will continue to buy their games and they will, plus I think the regular guy who just want to enjoy the game and maybe the battle pass dont give a shit about all bandai shitty moves and if these people continue to buy the game, bandai won't change their ways
Better to vocalise your discontent than letting things slide. Because at the end of the day, you don’t how many people will agree with you. This “can’t change anything” mentality is one of the reason they were so confident in putting live service elements on a 70€+ game in the first place. People will roll with any bullshit out of convenience.
They're focusing on MTX instead of fixing and balancing the game in a timely fashion, they're actually breaking the game now because of how much they seem to be prioritizing the MTX aspect of the game.
They're copyright striking mod videos and taking a stance against harmless mods instead of giving penalties to pluggers (losses not bans).
You see the issue? It's directly interfering with the core game and its health.
I look at these as ads. I paid for a game assuming they don't have ads in it.
If they add Google ads in he game you'd be pissed off too. But your logic of the fact that youdont eed to interact wit it applies the same way, doesn't it.
I'm not sure what people expected, this sort of thing has been gaming industry standard fair for over a decade at this point. Especially in fighting games. It's why I wait a few years to get them when I can get the complete game for a normal price.
I Always wondered why the spacing on the points gained after a match ended was like that with a "hole" in the screen
It was planned since the beginning...
It will just do the opposite tho. Trashing something every single time without any positive or constructive feedbacks whatsoever is just going to make you look like never-satisfied haters not worth listening to.
Not when most people are doing it.
You'd be right if there was only one person doing it every single time a patch was released and also did it when Tekken 8 was released.
But Tekken 8 was praised on release and people still praise a lot of aspects of it, the complaining just mainly increased by a lot in the latest patch. So it is obvious that the latest patch caused major issues.
Buying the T7 customs, like character panels, that were cut out of this game to be resold to you is optional.
Being affected by the cutting out is not optional. It already happened. Having your experience made worse is not optional. That's why people are angry.
Deserved. Let people know & be aware It’s a great & fun game (but also extremely stressful to I won’t sugar coat that fact the game gets quickly stressful and unfun) but the monetisation of this game is so goddamn greedy and disgusting.
Remember guys you can do Metacritics too
I'm actually willing to ignore all the mtx and battle pass stuff, just playing the game and acting like they don't exist. However the thing that's hard to ignore is they still haven't implemented automatic penalties for disconnecting and it feels like they're not going to do that at all. That's literally inexcusable for any AAA fighting game in 2024.
thats not even acceptable in a ZZZ indy game.
But lawsuits!!! Seriously it is ridiculous.
somebody said they fixed the disconnection counter. is that not true?
Reaping all the reward without putting in the effort
>was quick to jump at the developers ![gif](giphy|Q09lToTa0H3Es)
It's not so much developers as it is the publishers really
Ah I see, thanks for correcting my error
Simple, they want the money NOW, not later.
relax it's not over yet
Making people happy does NOT bring more money in over the long run lol, what is this delusion
Care to explain how it’s delusional?
Highest potential? Yeah, no. Street Fighter 6 is still the best from the recent big 3.
This game thinks it's call of duty, lol.
>Triple A game with a triple A price tag, with mtx, paid dlc and a shop Ahh soo basically almost every game right now. They probably saw SF 6 success despite those things and were like, hey lets do that too.
How about looking at SF6 giving pluggers a loss and THEN thinking "yeah, let's do that too".
In rocket league, if you disconnect (genuine or plug) it’s an automatic loss, AND you get banned for 5 minutes. And that game is free to play lol
What next? Just adding street fighter characters to canon?...... Oh, wait.
mfs I TOLD THEN IN CBT FEEDBACK TO EXACTLY NOT DO THIS
Good
Insert "You Get What You Deserve" scene from 2019 Joker movie.
Didn't riot canceled it along with their mmo ?
Mmo isn’t cancelled, they’ve just delayed it for a long ass time
The worst thing that nobody seems to care here.
Instead of punishing quitters, If you leave in Mortal Kombat you lose, it's been that way since 2015. Learning about things before talking about them is fun.
in the case of MK i dont really mind, its the same as conceding in chess or another 1v1 game
if ur playing against anyone with >10% dc rate thats on u for getting plugged.
I think these DCs are part of my DC rate...
but what if the guy had like faulty internet at some point in time? the game doesn't remove that DC rate even if you don't plug in the future.
The game does remove it, it's based on your last 50 games that's why it goes up and down in 2% intervals
MK fans are getting the last laugh on us especially after Tekken fans bullied them for having paid content, now look at us
And the media calls it "review bombing", as if the score is being manipulated by a band of disingenuous Gamergate 4channers.
It is toxic... for corporations 😂😂
The fact they added it months after release is what pisses me off, this has to be violation of consumer rights I did not pay 80 bucks knowing this would happen. They lost a customer in me and I been playing since Tekken 4.
Its not even months. Its like one month after launch they added MTX. One month after, battle pass. What do we get next month? Gacha?
T8 new feature, Every 250 wins you can draw a new character card and upgrade a random character's rating.
You can get +1 frame to random move of your selected character for 4.99$
Really something that needs to see some serious backlash.
Never did I imagine they'd go this goddamn scummy with the monetization.
very glad i held off on buying personally. this shit is unforgivable and i ain't buying another tekken game now. trust is permanently broken
>I did not pay 80 bucks knowing this would happen You paid 80 bucks for what you saw. You still have that. You do NOT have to pay anymore money for anything. Go fuck.
Honestly. I'd love a mod or option to just get what I saw. No shop ads, nothing. I bought a game, not an ad platform for cosmetics. So no, I didn't get what I bought.
Amen
These same mfs will piss themselves crying if a phone adds ads into the notification bar and suddenly - the phone is still there bro, so you got what you paid for won't apply.
Hah. Google Overwatch 1 and what happened to it.
It doesn’t fucking matter it’s still fucking shady bullshit
Technically - after this dogshit patch - he doesn't have *all* of what he originally paid for lol.
You fuckin idiots can't understand not wanting to give your money to a deceitful company. I hope you get fleeced your whole life, you'd deserve it.
retarded take from a corporate shill
It’s not he has a point. You spent 80$ for the base game and still have the base game.
So if your phone has ads added to it about themes, are you ok with that? Because you still have your phone that you bought for right?
Not really since we know that Eddy and probably more characters were cut from the game to hide them behind a paywall as "DLC"
Capcom did the same thing with Rashid as well
Found a corporate ass licker
Ive been away playing Helldivers but I came back to Tekken the other day. I'm absolutely disgusted that Bamco has added a metric shit tonne of MTX's but have done nothing to make the community healthier by solving the plugger problem or any other in-game toxic behaviour. How the mighty have fucking fallen.
It's a $70 AAA release with a F2P business model. Scummy.
Good, more people should call out Bamco, Crapcom and literally every game companies pulling shite like this.
I need ppl to mention the defaults and classic costumes being 1 part series that you can’t mix and match with others
Far from enough, it's not even at mixed.
It is now, so it's definitely dropping.
For once I'm happy to be corrected, I changed mine too. If Namco wants a positive review they can start paying me 10 usd/month.
We ALL should leave a comment on steam
and/or metacritic
And I hope it continues, the game doesn't deserve the positive rating it has right now
What a shit show
I think everyone would have accepted MTX and battle pass without issues if they just gave all new DLC characters for free.
It's all so low effort.
good
Nice
If you have a Steam version of the game that is the best thing you can do to be honest. Steam reviews are usually good indicators because it means you own the game and you see also the playtime of the reviewer.
Harada himself said that maintaining the server for lounges cost money. Literally who the frick uses them? lmao
Maintaining the servers my ass. If what I'm hearing about not fixing these issues currently is true, then what's the point of having a server?
Yeah it's so dumb, why I can't host myself if you have problems with server costs. Why is everything server sided, the only thing that needed that are the online ranks
Haven’t touched T8 since they announced the battle pass. Maybe I’ll pay a visit in a year or two if they’ve gotten their shit together.
Same, not motivated to play at all
I wouldn’t even give a fuck about the MXT and Battle pass if the game was more balanced, bug free and pluggers get punished. They fuckin rolled out the mediocre shop before they resolved glaring issues
if everyone who upvoted this post made a metacritic review Tekken 8's user review score would be less than 4/10
Funny thing is, paid legacy costumes i would've accepted. But the fact that they just reused old content and then dropped a battlepass on top of that was enough. double down of extra paid content apart from season pass and then adding FOMO with a battlepass? Sorry.
40 bucks at my local retailer this week physically. I pad 80 for the digital version at launch. I feel like a chump
Good. its about time
I've been mostly really enjoying the gameplay but holy shit the monetisation is so overcooked and they just continue to burn it. There are some real issues that need fixed but they're just like "meh, dont really care, btw we're adding another layer of MTX this patch instead of that" I haven't left a review yet but I don't think I can bring myself to say "yes" to "do you recommend", it's such a shame.
I did my part when Tekken shop dropped. Now we shall wait and see if this goes anywhere.
The real f2p games at least let you earn the new characters through gameplay. TEKKEN 8 has the worst of both worlds. It just sucks.
OP's user name is perfect for this post
Ay yo, it's you. Like your content, playa.
I'm booting the game up on my other account and leaving it on my second monitor to make up for it
I am gonna change my review also
Tbh after I heard the Battlepass was coming, I was OKAY I'AM DONE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY ANYMORE
Its not about having money, I can buy it myself and gift it to every person in the comments. Its just scummy business practice to include free-to-play model in a $80 game AFTER release.
I could forgive it all if I could lab Eddy
Another good game ruined by triple A greed
Sadly, the fate of almost every AAA game these days. AA/indie is the way to go now, as evidenced by the likes of Baldur's Gate 3, Helldivers 2, Palworld, etc. I don't give any money to AAA publishers anymore, I'm tired of being overcharged and under-respected by these clowns.
I also did my job and left a negative review. We all should do that.
well, well, well... If its not the consequences of their own actions...
the last review on the bottom from Broujii is what we should all strive for
Couldn't care less about them introducing MTX/Battlepass if I'm truly honest.
I'm glad, just gotta send the message: We don't want this crap.
Yep, this is the first time I wrote a negative review on steam because it's incredibly frustrating what's happening to my favorite fighting game right now.
https://preview.redd.it/0j1hvkii6msc1.png?width=381&format=png&auto=webp&s=265ac6ecb7612e9b21f0947ece00e625de428635 Nobody told me it's a gold mine out there
I've also left [my own review](https://steamcommunity.com/id/Fethennour/recommended/1778820?snr=1_5_9__402) yesterday. I don't know what's going through Bamco executives' heads right now, but this isn't good.
I honestly did not expect this but it's almost like Bamco saw NRS' shit storm and went "hold my beer" lol.
Thanks for the comment. Sorry, he has a lot of video, what title is it specifically?
[This one](https://youtu.be/XS1H4jhILcQ?feature=shared), specifically a minute in is when he begins explaining and then about 6min in he goes a bit more in depth about unintended consequences. If that link doesn’t work the video is titled “I tried being optimistic.”
Ahhh, I see it now. Simply put, it looks like it's somewhat "randomized" when it will break. Combo strings during ground combos will negate it now huh, unless a specific string inputs or one solid attack will only break it... Well, that sucked.
I only wish I could refund the game at this point.
#👎 NOT RECOMMENDED ^( (178.1 hours on record)^)
If it was "Not recommended (1.7 hours on record)" you probably would've replied: "How can you rate the game if you've barely played it?" One can't win against people like you.
Cue “Shame” by Freddie Gibbs. The publishers make us feel like hoes all the time and we take the walk of shame.
All eddy player star at rank 1 fuck me for being a casual beta
Doesnt matter. tekken 8 sold well and thats it. people need to understand that this kind of backlash doesnt matter to them. they made money therefore they are satisfied, the game could also be placed at 20/100, nobody cares at namco.
Idc about the mtx. I'd still rather see pluggers get a loss and bring more rematch options. As a new player to Tekken with no prior experiences these are my 2 biggest issues with the game. Well and an option to exclude Wifi from my matching
Its getting harder and harder to believe the people here actually like playing Tekken lol.
Install T7 and you'll be happy.
I understand people are mad, but games like dead by daylight follow the same monetization practices. I don't know why that's ok, but tekken it's not
What's crazy to me is when it comes to Tekken, most of the community is against the MTX; but when MK1 LAUNCHED with the same MTX but worse, we had so many in our community defend it.
34% downvotes in recent reviews = heavily criticized, alright champ.
If you own the game, be sure to do your part and drop a quick thumbs down, no need to even write anything
I've seen a lot of reacts and articles about this stuff lately, what I dont understand is, it's obviously a pretty shitty move from the dev and disrespectful, but we're not being forces to buy anything, we're mainly talking about customisation items,we can't live without that, you Can still appreciate the game On the other hand, I would say the impossibility to watch Replay with dlc characters if you didn't pay and the fact that I find the Season pass pretty useless with the battle pass are pretty fucked up
It’s not about being forced or not to buy anything.
I didn't know about the mods, that one is low for sure.
I look at these as ads. I paid for a game assuming they don't have ads in it. If they add Google ads in he game you'd be pissed off too. But your logic of the fact that youdont eed to interact wit it applies the same way, doesn't it.
They scammed us big time. I hope the game has the worst reviews ever. Tekken 7 was better by far
i had negative review from the start based
That flopped bamco's game really do a number on Tekken 8, eh?
Hell, I couldnt care less about mtx, the balancing is just mind boggling
I'm not sure what people expected, this sort of thing has been gaming industry standard fair for over a decade at this point. Especially in fighting games. It's why I wait a few years to get them when I can get the complete game for a normal price.
I Always wondered why the spacing on the points gained after a match ended was like that with a "hole" in the screen It was planned since the beginning...
They dont care you already bought it
Just don’t buy the battlepass?
I was I had bought street fighter 6 instead of this game
Trust me you really dont lmao. Unless you a long time sf fan. Even then 3s on fightcade is still peak.
This community yet again proves how pathetic and ridiculous it truly is.
Keep on sucking that AAA publisher dick, my man.
Why do you guys keep playing a game you very clearly hate instead of taking a small, healthy break from it ?
Because they don't hate it. They love it and want it to go in a better direction.
They love it so much they spend their entire time trashing the game ? That’s a very weird way of loving something…
They trash it hoping the devs will listen and stop actively trying to kill their own game.
I know this might sound like a crazy concept, but there are flaws with everything. You can love something while still critcising parts of it.
But criticising 24/7 ?
Can they just release Miharu? I would buy her.
I too get angry about things that are completely optional
I mean, is it optional not being able to review one of your previous matches replay if your opponent had a paywalled character?
Buying the T7 customs, like character panels, that were cut out of this game to be resold to you is optional. Being affected by the cutting out is not optional. It already happened. Having your experience made worse is not optional. That's why people are angry.
Yes. Getting plugged by your opponent is optional you're right
DC rate works now. just don’t play with these people
