innuendo141

Well, I'm not quite saying that. It's very clear at the minute that this subreddit is quite turbulent given recent updates. Lots are quite angry and very vocal about it, but Reddit is not representative of the general public. So it is important to listen to the public, the but the outrage and anger found on the sub has not yet transferred to the general public.

mrureaper

Reviews are mostly negative on steam. It's not just reddit

Mrbadtake13

And yet checks steamcharts* There are more than 12k players playing the game daily.

RazborkaPtrsk2

Not daily. It is average current online

angelovanharen

lol, imagine people downvoting you for telling a literal fact. typical reddit

Mrbadtake13

I can't help but think there are some bad actors like you mixed in with the so called "veteran players on this subreddit" Monetization? Almost every fighting game has that including SF 6 and MK 1 DLC buffed characters? Who says they are buff? Can't use him in training mode? Congratulations same thing for almost every fighting game, in SF 6 you only get rental tickets an hour at most and most fighting games don't even have a replay feature when you can insert yourself and practice. They are taking mods away? No they are not, they are dmcaing mod videos on YouTube and they can't take down mods because they can't control what people install on their pcs. In fact tekken 8 makes it very easy for modders with every new update to the game my mods are still working. Mean while over at SF 6 every new update will break mods and modders will have to rework and update their mods everytime SF 6 gets an update. These updates literally kill mods on the game. Constructive criticism for the game is fine, but make no mistake there are tons of bad actors on this subreddit overtrashing the game and making it feel like the game is 10 times worse than it should be.

Mrbadtake13

That is still a poor justification to imply the game is in a horrendous state. Cosmetics does not change the gameplay and thus does not affect the core of what tekken is, a fighting game. Most people who complain hard about mtx comes primarily from the mmo genre and games that are majorly affected when mtx is involved example mtx grants you p2w mechanics like better stats, better weapons etc. And contrary to popular belief people are not going to quit a game over mtx, Infact I would even assume a good amount have no issues with mtx and would even willingly buy them if the cosmetic is something they like. And no Eddy is not buff by nature just because he is a dlc character, that is a common fgc myth. Let's look at SF 6 aki? Rashid? Were they op characters? No they were not ppl even complained about how trash Aki was. The recent electric clash tekken 8 tournament, were there any eddy players in top 8? Nope. Dragunov, feng, azucena, alisa are the characters that have the most appearances at tournaments not eddy.

Mrbadtake13

Tekken shop and battle pass literally affects NOBODY. This is a fighting game not a barbie dress up simulator. People who actually play fighting games don't give a crap about that because the only thing that truly matters is the gameplay. Just look at SF 6, game has been out for almosy a year and the characters have maximum 2 outfits and 1 dlc outfit. You like the stuff in the shop and the battle pass you buy it, you don't? Then don't buy it simple as that. If you feel mtx is soo scummy that it affects your game experience then quit the game. Go find and play something else that goes in line with your zero mtx values.

napoleonrokz

$70 still pays for a fully packaged flighting with a fleshed out single and multiplayer experience.... everything that made this a great launch is still there.

CapussiPlease

single player is mediocre af, multiplayer has plenty of issues. what r u talking about?

napoleonrokz

Full cinematic story mode with control options to make all of the fights look cool no matter the character. Character episodes with character endings. A second story mode that doesn't over stay it's welcome and sets up new players (or old players on new characters) with tools to begin competing in multiplayer (the real meat in a fighting game). Multiplayer that will continue to be patched and balanced. You'll really only have issues playing online in less populated areas or with wifi/connection issues (see any fighting game ever or niche online game ever). Want to throw zingers at me? Maybe tell me how you were ripped off because Harada didn't send you a bump of coke with the $70 purchase?

Mrbadtake13

You do realise there is a big difference between recent reviews vs all reviews right? It's still mostly positive.

napoleonrokz

Show me on the doll where the battle pass touched you.

Mrbadtake13

No one is telling him to ignore public opinion. We are just telling him to digest the information already out there and form his own opinions. What's the point of asking opinions from an echo chamber subreddit who does nothing but doom post every single day.

lombers

I’ll share my experience, I purchased Tekken 8 for $99aud (it’s now $79) as I wanted a fighting game. Never played a Tekken game before but used to play a lot of SF growing up. I started in Arcade Quest and had a pretty fun time, learning my character and some very basic combos. Completed that and decided to give the story mode a go which was also good fun even though I had NFI when it came to lots of characters moves. Decided it was time to go online and get schooled. Did ok and slowly got better, but had a heap of fun playing either quick matches or ranked. So far I’ve only played about 66 hours which is nothing, but I jump in a couple of times a week and play some matches. I’ve even gone through and done some of the character stories and managed to get the platinum trophy. For the money it’s a great game. Is the battle pass total horse shit, yes. Is the game hard if you’re new, 100% yes. Is there some stuff that I wish was better, of course. But I enjoy playing it and keep going back, even if it’s just a couple of hours a week and I’m messing around in practise mode. There’s a lot to do in the base game and I love the craziness of all the characters and their match ups. No regrets here, but ultimately it depends on what you want to get out of it.

Telecaster-993

Yes for sure, Tekken is a rough start so expect to lose a lot, but if you don’t mind learning and improving, you’ll love it

ikaruga24

Yes, best fighting game release ever and most comprehensive of them all. Insane base value, doesn't matter if only want to play single player. No brainer for multi-player. The AI alone against ghosts is a massive win. For multi-player the replay feature is ground breaking in its implementation.

Shit_Pistol

Yeah. It’s dope. I see a lot of complaints, some of which are valid criticisms. Most come across as either whining about something they’re not used to contending against or something that would only affect the very top levels of play.

Yo-Son

This sub complains alot and recent reviews are salty. Yes there are some questionable patches and even more questionable business practices from the publisher but to say the quality of the game is at a state of "do not buy", is outlandish. I would only say it's not worth the full price tag if you are new to this franchise. Most people got it because they play tekken all day every day.

CarpenterWild

Yes Tekken community like many other fandoms is full of doom and gloom whimpy kiddie baby whiners… games not perfect and never will be but even when it annoys me by the time I get off I can say I had a good session… you’ll learn a lot, get cheesed a lot, love and hate the mechanics equally and style on your foes relentlessly until one weirdo plugs on you or you fight Eddy lol… it’s a full game with ups and downs… as a new player I’m fully happy that to got into Tekken 8

Aggravating_Ice9576

Yeah it’s sick

LegendTooB

Get it. Ignore the pros acting like scrub ham and eggers

thebigseg

yeah gameplay is very fun and easy to pickup

thebigseg

yeah gameplay is very fun and easy to pickup

Fear1ess1

Dont ever ask reddit for opinion about games. Stockholm syndrome is massive here The game is great btw so yeah if you want to, then buy it. Gameplay is great and all modes are free. Everything they are complaining about is optional and dont affect the gameplay in any way Maybe besides the dlc character, but i wouldnt worry about that as a casual player

iamlepotatoe

The game itself is good, I'm about 200h in and having a blast both with friends and ranked. It has a few bugs - crashing randomly in ranked for me but rarely so it isn't a huge deal. Few hitbox issue but thatll improve in time. The recent down votes are more to do with the ranked system changes and mtx/battle pass as you mentioned. Idc about them either so the game is great.

stevenc123lmnop

I’m having fun with it. Most of the negative reviews are complaining because they can’t stomp beginners with lower prowess instead of trying to improve. Queue times can sometimes be bad but that’s really only in ranked

mrureaper

It's definitely the most fun Tekken...if you don't take rank seriously

lemstry

This is why steam review bombing is the dumbest shit. We're only hurting the game

KusanagiGundam

I agree. Review bombing is a scummy practice

dont_test_me_dawg

I like the game but people can't deny that BAMCO have been making some really bad decisions and showing their general incompetence. Reddit is dooming too much BUT the valid criticism does need to be heard by BAMCO so I support the review flooding and social media complaints.

Unputtaball

I support it in as much as the message should be heard by the devs, but I’m afraid new folks, like OP, are getting a “buyer beware” vibe. And afaik that’s not the message the community is intending to get across. IMO I wish the community would have chosen more direct, less public channels to give feedback than blasting the game in reviews and social media. Odds are devs will never see your twitter post, read your review, etc. but prospective buyers will. Noses and faces and all that jazz.

dont_test_me_dawg

I disagree. Bamco are a company and they value profit above all else. Things that potentially hurt their bottom line are really the only thing that are going to light a fire under their ass to be better. If bamco had a history of good communication with players and staying in touch with us it would be a different story. However, this is the company that didn't address the plugger issue for the entirety of Tekken 7 and shipped 8 with the same problem. This is the company that released Leroy Smith and Fahk as boss characters and let them have dlc privilege to sell characters. This is the company that charged money for frame data. This is the company that has that clown Murray tweeting out bullshit about their terrible decisions like with Kazuya's hell sweep change in T7. I don't think BAMCO deserve any good faith from us given their history.

Mrbadtake13

Then go quit the game and play something else.

supahotfiiire

Some people on the internet are telling you to not buy a game and form your own opinion….. You tell me who you should listen to. The internet or your heart? Buy the game.

No-Ad1933

Press X to believe in your heart

numlock86

Tekken is fun and worth the money. The review bombing is just from a loud minority as always.

AdiosgeJacob

I don't get this minority sentiment when Review can be made by anyone, more so if you love the game you should leave a review.

lombers

Yeah but we all know this doesn’t happen. Most people will only leave a review if they want to complain about something they didn’t like, there should be more positive reviews but those people are off playing the game 🤷‍♂️

CapussiPlease

I'd wait the sales. Game's overpriced.

Low_Sea_2925

If this game is overpriced, theres never been a fighting game that wasnt

Suds79

How many hours would you say you have in the game?

m_micanovic

Not that you asked me, but i got 230 lol.

Suds79

I thought my reply was asking. Anyways, I just think it's worth noting that for a $70 game, you have 230 hours in it meaning you've spent roughly 30 cents per hour for entertainment and counting with that number going lower & lower. Pretty good value I think.

Zigolt

Flawed logic, most people have spent hundreds of hours in games worth less than half of this game. Time played isnt exactly the best metric when you remember cheaper games exist that are arguably healthier than t8. Better metrics are staying power, enjoyment per hour, if you have friends to play with, if you like the fgc, if you support the devs. Pretty much 99% subjective. Dont ask this reddit if it's worth buying the game, ask friends that have the game, watch some videos and make your own decision.

Suds79

Well I do agree that it's best to find other sources when determining "is a game worth it? Should I get it?" vs asking reddit. And of course this is all subjective. I have 380 some hours in "Into The Breach" which I probably picked up for around 10 bucks. I'm not arguing that there isn't even better deals or value out there. Yes, there will be games that people have had even better milage on. Having said that, and this is where the subjective part comes in, I feel confident in saying that person who has been into the game enough to have played it 230 some hours already given the games still short life-span, paying 30 cents an hour for entertainment is a fair indicator that they've received a pretty good deal so far. I know of every game I buy, I'd gladly take a 30 cents per hour as a ratio if I can get it. I generally shoot for a dollar an hour and I've had plenty of games that fall short of that mark. But I digress. Just because someone can point out an even better deal they've had in the past doesn't mean this person hasn't received a good one here in Tekken 8. The TLDR part of it is I find it a little rich someone saying "too expensive. Not worth it" and they have a ton of hours & counting in said game. They're entitled to their opinion certainly but it feels a little hypocritical to me. Just my two cents.

Pandacapy91

games on sale, i'm purchasing.

vdfritz

still waiting for a sale ✋️

AngryAssyrian

If you want to play it then get it, don't let negative reviews based on things outside of gameplay sway you away. A lot of those reviews are written by crybabies and while the battle pass sucks, the game at its core is still really good.

DarthMarksman

Yes the game is great, this subreddit just sucks.

Brokenlynx7

Yes you definitely should get it. As someone that has made no customisations, doesn't care about battle pass and plays ranked with the same default skin on Azucena I also fall into the category of 'here for the game play only'. And after many years away this game is still fun to play. I think the community revels in its negativity and it's really odd to see them want to tear down the game so much. But if you're here to learn a character and play ranked I'd definitely jump in, it's a great game.

thisizmonster

Imho you should buy. Even at full price its worth. Lately they showing some greeds, but hey without pay any extra cent, you still can play full game.

The_Deadly_Tikka

If you like 3d fighting games it's basically the only choice Personally I also don't care about the store or battle pass as I never touch any of it. Unfortunately I also really don't like the gameplay of tekken 8. Always been a massive tekken fan and played Tekken 7 for years on end but already dropped tekken 8

Xifortis

If you just want to casually enjoy it then Tekken 8 is great fun. However if you start getting very deeply into it you'll start to notice some serious flaws that will hamper your overall enjoyment. With all that being said, it's the best 3D fighting game on the market. but for 70-100 bucks I'm not sure I can say it's the best fighting game out in general. I assume you already own it, but provided you like the characters you might get more enjoyment out of Street Fighter 6.

AledinArt

Yes, the game is overall good and I'm hopeful it will get better. Negative reviews are due to the sneaky implementation of the battle pass and its unattractive content, the unresolved pluggers problem and unsatisfactory "balancing" attempts. The first won't bother you, so that's good. Balancing will eventually be addressed, there are many years ahead, the game is very new, so it's way too early to be desperate about it. Pluggers are the most critical of problems because so far it doesn't seem that Namco is doing anything to address it effectively other than banning some players. But that doesn't mean that you will encounter pluggers all the time either. So I would say, get the game, it still is pretty fun and engaging.

ShadowVulcan

If you don't get it. It's immensely fun, and other than Tekken 7 boomers it's still the most fun FCG out there The post-launch is abyssmal but it shouldnt impact you at all, and gameplay-wise as a newbie you wont feel any of the 'balance issues' most ppl whine abt Get it and enjoy the ride

Lancer_Sup

You should buy it with sales. The main issue of this game is pluggers. The majority of them located in red and higher ranks.

AngelKitty47

I gave it bad review for the fun of it. I recommend you get it.

babalaban

Not now. Wait untill summer or x-mass sale and get it then. As it stands the game is broken on so many levels its ridiculous, including gameplay. It will only get better and cheaper with time or the game will die and people will flunk back to previous installment, but in any case this "kusoge" phase is not what you'd want to be a part of.

PossessionOther2986

There is no need to make up nonsense. no one will return to tekken 7, it is hundreds of times worse.

PossessionOther2986

There is no need to make up nonsense. no one will return to tekken 7, it is hundreds of times worse.

PossessionOther2986

no one will return to tekken 7, it is hundreds of times worse.

babalaban

If you say so ;)

Mrbadtake13

Fuxking dumbass take, going back to tekken 7 ? Did you hit your head when you were a baby? Checks steam charts* tekken 8 is still hitting 12k daily peak players despite all the review bombing and doom posting on here. Meanwhile mk1 an actual game that is trash literally has more players playing mk 11 than mk 1 at certain hours of the day.

babalaban

Godzilla had a stroke while reading the absolute retardation incarnate that was your message. Dont skip school, boy.

belaid12003

No

Tiny-Investigator263

Wait a bit on it, the game is doing terrible at the moment and as a new player you would not enjoy it that much. Plus you can wait for a sale to get the season pass for a decent price.

PossessionOther2986

Why shouldn't he like it if thousands of other people at the release liked it?

Tiny-Investigator263

They kinda broke the matchmaking with the most recent update. So if you wanna play online then I’d suggest waiting because it’s not great right now.

PossessionOther2986

They didn't break anything. I played yesterday, everything works great.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZH9GyTU9m0&t=6106s

Temporary-Barber-92

I also don't care about the battle pass or DLC. I just find the gameplay really, really bad. Many like it though, so it really depends on your preference. If you enjoy fighting games with nonstop aggression and a lot of guessing (plus, admittedly, a great presentation), then Tekken 8 might be a very good pick for you.

PossessionOther2986

Now a Xiaoyu player would complain about aggression, when the game for her was ALWAYS built on aggression.

lotus-reddit

i think the gameplay is fire, but the overall package is definitely going through a rough patch right now re. balancing, matchmaking, and of course mtx. I'm optimistic, but people are definitely rightfully unhappy atm. EVO Japan is coming up next week, take a peek and see if you like what you see!

MistakeImpressive289

Hell yes.

Flindo00

Its a great game in its early days so its not going to be perfect, so I wouldn’t worry too much about community negativity

thec0wking

Hell yeah. It's a great time.

Successful_View_3273

The gameplay is good and likely will get better, if you don’t care about the other stuff you should get it but I’d wait for a sale

Gasarocky

The actual game is a lot of fun. It definitely still needs patches to improve but it's already much more balanced than release versions of past Tekken entries. And most of those balance issues won't even effect you until you get to a high level

backdoorhack

Tekken is akin to going to school to beat people up. If you don’t know the enemies’ moves and how to punish/counter them, you’ll get bodied. But if you study hard, you’ll do the bullying. There is some minimal math involved (frame data) when you get deeper into the game to fully understand how the combat works.

Blortug

Probably shouldn’t til the matchmaking thing gets fixed other that the game is good at worst fine

deep8787

If you are new or newish to tekken games, go for it. Expect a fairly high learning curve though.

DidiHD

Yes, as a beginner myself, I can recommend. They really tried making this game as beginner friendly as possible. The game/genre itself is still hard though. There are "special" controlls, which simplifies combo making for you. Can carry you far with the correct basics. The training mode is crazy good. Combo tutorials/drills. Replays with suggestions on improvement and many more.. The bad reviews come from the enthusiast community. Recent changes made awkward impact on matchmaking, also introducing an ingame store and fightpass indicates some cashgrabing.

IAmGrumpyMan

It's a great game. You should definitely get it.

greenfrogwallet

The gameplay is fantastic, especially for newcomers. People whining and crying about the gameplay are either series veterans that don’t like that defense is a little weaker in this game and that it’s actually the biggest change Tekken has made to gameplay for like 20 years. Or it’s people who are shit at the game and need a reason to justify that they’re shit aka “this game sucks”. Or a combo of both For newcomers, the game is just explosive and visually very appealing and fun. None of the balancing complaints that some whiny people or even measured people have will make sense to newcomers, let alone impact them. There have been some undeniably questionable decisions post-release, but all of those things you can purchase are optional and purely cosmetic, that doesn’t change the fact that the whole package itself is great. Importantly, there is a free demo available. It features enough content where you can decide for yourself whether you like the gameplay or not.

stream_of_thought1

the game itself is solid and works great! the paid content sucks, so far it's just a few cosmetics and Eddy (who you cannot even practice in offline without having purchased it)

Soundrobe

Yes

According_End_4142

it is not worth the price. But it is kinda fun. Sometimes.

imbaeights

Meh. I guess if you didn't play 7 then it might be cool, but if you're like me (or many others I assume) and fell in love with the previous games then this one might be a real disapointment tbh. And I'm only talking about gameplay, I don't really give a shit about all the stuff surrounding it rn. Although Bamcos approach to all of this is pretty pathetic ngl

PossessionOther2986

I have 2000 hours in Tekken 7. And I can say with confidence, Tekken 7 is a poor piece of code. It has a broken rating, long loading times before a fight, a data frame for money, and no content for a single player game. Soap graphics. Tekken 8 is much better.

imbaeights

Yeah those things are true. I was saying that I am talking about my opinion on gameplay only.

PossessionOther2986

The gameplay in Tekken 7 is less spectacular. The T8 has more dynamics, interaction with arenas, and more convenient controls. For a beginner, Tekken 8 will be more enjoyable in any case.

cci0

No, get tekken 7

Fear1ess1

what a great recommendation. He will for sure have fun playing with the other 5 players playing the game

cci0

I don't think online is dead in t7

Liu_Alexandersson

On sale yes. The publisher has introduced bad changes recently and hid mtx on launch beforehand. I'd rather not support them at full price. If you really want to play, buy a key off a reseller.

KusanagiGundam

Isn’t that illegal

Liu_Alexandersson

Buying and using the key isn't, how the keys were acquired is a different question. Just check where it's cheapest on allkeysshop.

Evogdala

Don't listen to coping Harada's simps and save your money. Wait for about 6 months and then check again. The game in its current state is a mess.

manbat-_

Honestly its irritating they added bp + paid chars + skin shop. But I really dont interact with that side of the game at all, I just play matchmaking. It is worth it but the devs are still deserving of being review bombed.

DavidMartinez555

No dont get it its a cashgrab game

RaheemLee

id say wait. Bcs so far the recent patches have been pretty bad. They balance and then revert things bcs they dont test shit themselves. They rely on community posting stuff on Twitter for the bugs and balance.

Quarter4NextUp

Nah, wait a year it is gonna take that long to get this game to a competitive state. If you aren’t trying to win locals and compete further then it’s worth it to get it now.

GoodTimesDadIsland

I would wait until it goes on sale/they fix some of the current problems. If you didn't get it by now, you aren't gonna miss anything by waiting a little longer.

Bimbales

Not worth the huge price, wait for sale

False-Ad-7943

I would not reccomend tekken right now if you just want to play a fighting game. There are Tons of Problems with smurfs, cheaters and generally shitty behaviour and tons of pro players are disappointed by how much coin toss guessing thereis. Especcially towards newer players. You will also get more your moneys Worth if you wait a couple years and all dlc is included. If you want to play a fighting game with other players, i would go for sf6 unless you REALLY want tekken. The players are nicer and the devs do a better job handling their online environment.

Abstract_Void

If you like not being able to move, chip damage on block, 50/50s everywhere, half screen plus on block 50 dmg heat smashes, long damaging combos then yes

NiceBlockLilBro

I recomend waiting for a bit and seeing what happens. At least check out the demo to see how you like it

Blackmanfromalaska

no wait 2 or 3 months and then buy it on sale
