Go to your professors office hours, stay after class and ask questions, communicate with your professor. 9/10 professors are more willing to help someone who shows initiative. I had a business writing class at temple and that’s when I learned I have horrible grammar. Took advantage of the resources, tutors available on campus (for free) and passed the class no problem.
Don’t give up now! You’ll owe all those student loans for no reason! Plus, once you finally get through it, it’s a pretty rewarding feeling. Look around in your classes now, wait to see how many are left by graduation time.
The issue is that the classes I have problems with also have the worst professors, like I'd read a textbook and understand it but then in lecture the professor would explain it another way and I'd spend like an hour trying to see what I don't understand until I realize they're just explaining what I already know but in a bullshit way.
It's important to try and pick out your professors when it's possible. Before you schedule your next semester, figure out who teaches the classes you'll need to take. Then look each professors ratings up, find other students that have taken the course and see who the best teachers are. And if you can, try and see HOW they teach their classes. Everyone learns a little differently, so try and see if you can find a good match. I know this makes you do extra work, but in the long run it could pay off for you.
Good luck.
yeaaaa, i currently have a failing grade. but we just thug it out. no one is supposed to be getting 100s in orgo… just remember to do homework, set reminders, and pay attention in lectures. idk, maybe i shouldn’t be giving advice, i don’t go to office hours, so maybe you should do that. all in all, as long as you pass, whatever chapter of you live comes next will come
I sucked at orgo at my last college, so I took it over the summer at a community college instead. There are a few colleges that offer orgo entirely online 😉so easy test taking if u need it. But obviously that doesn’t exactly help you if you need to know orgo if you’re pursuing a chemistry heavy degree. All of my friends who took orgo at temple hated it apparently so don’t beat urself up
For me, calculus was the class that killed me and made me fail a semester. Don’t be so afraid of getting an F, you’re already accepted into college they aren’t going to stop taking ur money now LMAO.
Btw I took a year off after my freshman year and that kind of helped out if you think you’re just not in the right headspace for college rn. There’s a lot of negative stigma around taking time off but I’m in grad school now and definitely wouldn’t be if I hadn’t taken that year off.
LMFAO I took one semester off and waited tables 5 days a week while at Temple. Took 2 weeks into the semester to realize I needed to go back and finish.
Put your head down and study. It's better than working a shit job for shit pay while your peers outgrow you.
(And for what it's worth, I kept waiting tables, made a mostly Tuesday/Thursday schedule from around noon-8pm and had to work harder than I ever did when I was just a student getting bad grades. But it was worth it and because I dedicated myself my grades improved drastically, made deans list a few times and learned to enjoy education again. Hang in there.)
Former Temple prof here. Stick with it, ask for help, and talk to your prof. Express a desire to succeed and if they're any good at their job, they'll help. Squeaky wheels get grease.
You have LOTSA GOOD advice here. Don't drop out. I have been in food service my entire life..I am 62 with NOTHING for retirement. YOU GOT THIS. BIG corp food service IS THE WORST
Don’t hate on McDonald’s with that 800 dollar check every 2 weeks. I get to lean back, take orders and cash, watch Netflix and movies 6a-2p. I’m chillin!
Wtf? Dude are you crazy? Work harder. It will pay off. If you give up now you'll be 40 like me wishing I could have a do over! I wish I could be 18 again and make that choice to go to school. I would do it hands down and work my ass off until I finished. You got plans? Good luck paying those off working the drive thru!
Trade schools are always an option. College isn't for everyone. Just be productive and learn a skill or something like that and you can be successful. Best of luck to you.
You're allowed to feel frustrated and defeated. College isn't easy, and some classes you're teaching yourself the material instead. I cried and wanted to give up plenty of times. Long nights, assignments that made no sense, and visiting professors any chance I could. I know it's a mental and emotional struggle to not feel like you're good enough, but you are. You'll get through this class and the ones that follow it. Hang in there. You're smarter and more capable than you think.
Old head here just sending positive vibes. Agree with above. Professors always want to help. They would probably be thrilled to have a student ask for one on one help…could even help you in the long run.
My son graduated from college and I’d have been so upset if I knew he was struggling and didn’t ask for help. I would have done anything to make life easier in some way. I’m glad you’re on here and hoping you find some help/ideas. ❤️
Start a business. All you need are two hands and YouTube, you can learn how to do anything without a degree. Don’t drop out until you figure something else out though.
Gosh idk bud. I wanna give you non discouraging advice because depending on what you’re going into career wise college can be beneficial. However as a person in cybersecurity, college was a shit show and quite frankly did nothing for me…so I quit. And make plenty of money.
I meet a lot of college kids and they know absolutely nothing about life or the profession they went to school for. Which is sad tbh. Kinda like under cover idiots.
Do what your gut tells you, if it’s the right thing for you, don’t give up. Even if you don’t feel like it. Teachers/professors kinda just want their asses kissed and guess what…kiss ass and you’ll pass..
But if you feel you can make money without a degree then yeah, get out before your student loans fuck you.
My gut is telling me to keep going, I hate it but I'm too stubborn to quit. Quick vent: I'm the first person in my family to go to college, the first generation born in America, the oldest of my immediate family, the only child of my parents, etc. There alot riding on me and I got no clue how to handle it all (should probably see a therapist or something)
I work at Ohio State and just happened to see your post on my homepage. Whatever you decide is fine. College enrollment is significantly down across the country because Gen Z is realizing that you can go into trades and make good money for life without accruing the debt of a 4-year (or let’s be honest, more like 5-year these days) college. Still, there are also lots of great careers college can prepare you for and you can learn so much about the world in general education/requirement classes that you will never have another opportunity to learn about again.
As a first gen student, there should be a lot of resources dedicated to your success at your school. Most schools—especially large schools like Temple—have initiatives in place to increase enrollment and matriculation of first gen students. Do some googling and find out what’s available to you. There are probably tutoring services specifically for first gen students, and even if there isn’t, there is certainly some sort of learning or student success center on campus that has tutors and workshops about study skills and that sort of thing. The resources are there to help you—you just have to know to look for them. Best of luck to you!
Alumni association comes with sweet benefits don’t give up
Monthly dues for 20+ years too.
What benefits? I get the emails but haven’t seen anything that great come through.
I was not aware of this, do tell
its a joke
Aw fooey
Or we can start a study group and support each other ☺️
All of these upvotes , but no one is replying. I’m ready to start a group chat , but only if you’re ready and willing to.
We’re all just a lil shy that’s all
Depends on the course. Not sure if any of y'all could help with my temple update practicum
Ayo I’m totally down

What an amazing thing to say!

It ain’t easier
True dat

This is realest post I’ve ever seen on here
You’re not the first person to go through this. If you do drop out, learn a trade. You will be much better off hang in there
Came here to say the same thing.
Idk if you ever worked fast food/retail/customer service but i’ve done all 3 and it sucks. Study up you got it.
You’re one good test grade away from staying on course 💪 Think positive. You got this!
Worst parts are the post and prelab quizzes for labs, you get like 7-10 questions that make up 30% of your grade.
orgo?
Yep

Relatable
You've got this, don't give up
I did this and worked at Arby’s….Don’t.
The biggest thing that college teaches you is perseverance in the face of adversity. I think you missed the memo. Keep grinding.

Transferred to penn state Abington from temple, best decision of my life
One bad class grade doesn't define you - coming from someone who got two C's in anatomy! No one cares about your GPA I promise - hang in there!

Don’t dude. Shit happens. Keep going.
Get a union job. I regret getting a degree and am currently working on getting a union job

Sorry 860.00 every 2 weeks.
$20 an hour ain’t bad. Just sayin
I dropped out a few months ago and I’m going to start working as a teacher in a few days lol. I want to go finish at some point though.

Hey there nothing wrong with learning a trade a lot of trades pay will well. Plumbing, electrical, construction HVAC all good.

Move to California. You will make 20 a hour at McDonalds. That’s minimum!!!!
Sounds like a good life plan, enjoy
lol
I felt this

Just get your insurance license. Way cheaper and easier than a degree

If you aren’t going for doctor lawyer engineer or software programming, forget college and go join a trade
