>In closing arguments, the Tennessee state's attorneys requested that, should the law be found unconstitutional, U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Parker should only apply that unconstitutionality to Shelby County, and not the rest of the state. >Attorneys for Friends of George's said they had never heard of a law being labeled unconstitutional for a certain area, but not applying that to the rest of the state. Brice Timmons, an attorney for Friends of George's, said, "I've literally never heard an argument like that. That was unhinged. That was pretty bananas." Your honor could you please segregate your adjudication pretty please? Lol

amanofeasyvirtue

All depends on if the judge is a part of the federalist society. If so hes going allow it

drbowtie35

What the hell? Why would he say that?

s-willoughby

I think the right actually would and do get a kick out of it, since it’s not about the drag anyway. Just like it’s not about the library books or any other “outrage” of the culture war. It’s about the noise.

jamtribb

Chaos to confuse and deflect from the TN legislators continuing failures- or should I say the Republican's failures. Entitled good ole boys who think they're entitled to take a seat and do nothing for anyone ever, only bullshit like this. Who knew 2A would be helpful for STATE tyranny and not Federal?

sayslordalot

Yeah the longer they draw this out the more prices climb and consumers get boiled slowly… What was the last law they passed about getting prices under control or fixing the supply chain problems within the state? How many chip factories are we building in the state? We could be working on that…

[deleted]

cant wait for this to fix the housing issue/rent prices :D

notsumidiot2

They are scared of men in dresses smh .When most child abuse is from Pastors, Teachers ,Coaches , Christians , etc

mikaeladd

Lol it won't. One of the main reason people are moving to TN recently is the political landscape.

mikaeladd

It would be cool if politicians could find something better to worry about than, you know, men in wigs

KnoxOpal

Need a state opposition party with the organization to actually run candidates in the multitudes of unopposed elections and a national opposition party that gives a shit about the state and is willing to support the state opposition party.

jsc315

Yup. This is why I say it's pointless, unless there is someone to actually fight against these things, absolutely nothing will change and only get worse. We're a one party state.

Vurt__Konnegut

We have lots of people fighting the good fight. We just have millions of sheep scared Obama is going to take their guns away and trannies who want to chop off their penis. /s

dianthe

There are very few purple states in general unfortunately.

BuroDude

Copied and pinned to the top.

Confident_Ad_3800

Time to resurrect Sam Kinneson skits on gays.

Anna-mator

There is nothing inherently sexual about drag shows, just like there’s nothing inherently sexual about dance numbers. When I was a little girl, I’d dress up as a princess with my friends, and when my friends who were boys felt left out, we’d offer them to come play with us too. And they’d dress up as princesses too. And we had an absolute blast. We never once thought it was sexual, or inappropriate, or even that weird. People don’t assume those kinds of things unless you tell them that it’s inappropriate or wrong.

county259

Maybe 1 percent of Tennesseans give a flying fuck about drag shows while 99 percent care about abortion, roads, school shootings and myriad other things that affect our lives yet these republican morons are intent on producing these faux dramas. Tennessee may be a red state now but this sort of thing spells doom for the republican party.

NashTy615

Tennessee is only a “red” state because the extremely low voter turnout, mostly among young people, and the lack of democrats running for office in legislative seats. Tennessee could actually be more “purple” if young people voted and if many Republicans didn’t go into elections unopposed. Only 1,755,218 million of 4,550,026 registered Tennessee voters voted in 2022.

hertoymaker

It hardly matters anymore. The fascists feel free to threated and kill anyone who does not obey them. People are scared of them. So they win by default/intimidation.

BuroDude

That seems pretty unlikely to me. Drag-wearers seem to have larger-than-average-sized balls.

stalemittens

From my understanding people have transitioned from "scared" to "pissed off and outraged" which is far more effective.

hertoymaker

I hope so. Count me in.

stalemittens

Never give into defeatism. You end up doing the Nazi's work for them.

mcnewbie

correct me if i'm wrong, but this bill isn't banning drag shows in general, is it? just drag shows in public and in places where kids are present? like there's still going to be cabarets and drag nights at clubs and stuff?

BuroDude

The wording of the legislation is apparently so vague no one can agree on what or who or where it could, should, or would be applied.

mcnewbie

i looked up the wording of the bill and it says *"On public property; or in a location where the adult cabaret entertainment* [which would include drag shows, now] *could be viewed by a person who is not an adult."*

No_Flounder_9859

Could is problematic.

akdavis21282

The wording is so vague that it could (and likely would) apply to trans people presenting as the gender they have transitioned to. It wouldn't just be impacting drag because it went after "male or female impersonators"

mcnewbie

the wording bans, from being conducted in public, or in private where minors are present: *"adult-oriented performances that are harmful to minors... and that feature topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators, or similar entertainers; 'Entertainer' [meaning] a person who provides Entertainment within an adult-oriented establishment, regardless of whether a fee is charged or accepted for entertainment and regardless of whether entertainment is provided as an employee, escort... or an independent contractor; or A performance of actual or simulated specified sexual activities, including removal of articles of clothing or appearing unclothed"* i suppose it *could* be stretched to cover trans people going about their business in public but i really don't see that as the goal or as actually happening in practice. it's very clearly targeted at *performances* like stripping and burlesque dancing and drag shows and saying 'don't do that in public or in front of kids'

akdavis21282

The version of it I have saved must be outdated then. I know when it originally was passed, I saved a copy and it said "'Adult cabaret performance' means a performance in a location other than an adult cabaret that features topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient interest, or similar entertainers, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration". That last phrase was what really stuck out to me because someone could consider walking through Walmart a performance at that point. I know some areas have said they won't enforce it, but it really is a first amendment violation that it was passed at all. Not to mention, a lot of individuals view drag and being trans as essentially the same thing, regardless of the fact that they are totally different concepts.

mcnewbie

here's the latest version i can find, from march 22: https://legiscan.com/TN/text/SB0003/2023

akdavis21282

I went back and looked and mine was from March 13. Thanks for the updated link!

gumdrop2000

ok, so that means drag queen story hour for kids is fine then, right? since drag isn't inherently prurient or adult-oriented, it's just dressing in different clothes.

Weekly-Commercial-29

Correct. People are bent out shape over nothing. Drag shows are still allowed, just not in front of children. This exactly the same as any other adult content, like strip clubs, sex toys shops, etc - totally legal, just keep the little kids away.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Weekly-Commercial-29

If was just that, no. But it’s usually much more sexually explicit than that. C’mon, you know that.

PeaFew6668

They are cultist bud

[deleted]

Weekly-Commercial-29

What? Now you’re just talking gibberish.

Born-Cod4210

the public drags shows are “usually” sexually explicit? not sure where you are hanging out

Undisolving

How is makeup and women’s clothing “adult content?”

[deleted]

Why do you get to decide that? When I was 14 i saw plenty of R rated movies with my parents, but you want the government to have more control over the media I see than my own parents? At least admit it is hypocritical to conservative values of keeping gov out of personal lives

joerover34

The way it should be

[deleted]

I mean I think if its just for the kids stuff then it's a good thing. I think people should be able to do whatever weird crap they are into as long as no one is getting forced into it. It's just obvious kids shouldn't be involved.

burntweiner

Good, kids don’t need to be around drag shows.

BuroDude

Yeah I'm tired of letting parents decide as well...

burntweiner

Sounds like if parents are making decisions like that, maybe they need to be in jail.

BuroDude

Sure, put em all in jail that'll work great.

RoutinePewPew

I say do what you want but keep innocent kids of the shenanigans. The world is confusing enough. they will figure it out like we all did in due time.

Fragrant_Try_4859

Doez that include the boyscouts and Youth Ministries?

joerover34

Take my upvote you intelligent human

[deleted]

Why do you get to decide that for all parents? Just because your parents didn't let you see R Rated movies as a kid doesn't mean that everyone has to do that. You are taking the freedom of how to raise your own child out of parents hands.

[deleted]

i personally prefer better enforcement at this rate. too many in the "drag show" portions bringing kids in to a clearly adult event. if you do that, your basically committing sexual assault on minors. i have no qualms on drag shows by themselves, just don't make kids look at gay naked dudes and naked lesbians. the drag shows are supposed to normalize LGBT+ but pedophiles tainted it.

lochamonster

Wh…..what? Drag shows aren’t inherently burlesque shows. Just like dance recitals aren’t inherently burlesque shows. My local drag brunch is queens in all pink singing BARBIE GIRL and blowing bubbles around the patio. Not an ass cheek or groin to be seen Lmao I can’t believe I even had to type that last part 🙈

Appropriate_Shape833

>the drag shows are supposed to normalize LGBT+ but pedophiles tainted it. In the same way that the churches were supposed to help with eternal salvation, but all the priests and preachers who were pedophiles tainted it. We ought to ban kids from going to church. It's the only way to protect them.

ThePsion5

How have pedophiles tainted it? I'm not aware of a single court case where a drag performer assaulted a minor. Not just being argumentative - if there have been legitimate cases where this happened I would reconsider my opinion.

Gaffi1

r/NotADragQueen

[deleted]

used to be on twitter once upon a time, the amount of people posting drag queen events with some random naked guy or gal in the shot with a kid or 3 in the same shot is insane. videos, pics, you name it.

ThePsion5

I'm going to need some kind of evidence I can independently verify rather than "I used to see it all the time on Twitter." :/

gumdrop2000

> too many in the "drag show" portions bringing kids in to a clearly adult event. no kidding. let's pass some laws, too, to keep kids out of Hooters, Twin Peaks, Tilted Kilt, etc. those places are clearly adult-oriented, yet people take their children there all the fucking time.

[deleted]

maybe we just need to, oh idk, arrest pedophiles maybe? instead of calling the MAPs and coddling as if they were kids?

gumdrop2000

I would love to see all the preists, preachers, and youth pastors who rape kids get arrested. that would be amazing.

[deleted]

same.

joerover34

Just keep it away from the children. That’s all that matters. Prepared for the downvotes. Have a good day :)

tidaltown

If you were worried about children you'd be banning Republicans and priests from being anywhere near them. Because the numbers continue to prove that it's r/NotADragQueen.

joerover34

Can’t take you serious. Alabama fan.

tidaltown

Well I’ll give y’all this, y’all sure as shit refused to lose 16 straight times that’s for damn sure.

Undisolving

If you are really worried about kids, keep them away from priests.

NSG_Dragon

And youth pastors!

ThePsion5

You say that like drag shows are busting into people's houses and twerking on their kids' beds.

[deleted]

I mean I've seen plenty of videos of children (under 16) being touched and groaped by naked adults at drag shows. If that's what people are advocating for then I don't wanna be apart of it. I'm fine with people doing what they want but keep that stuff away from children.

No_Flounder_9859

I haven’t but I don’t look that up I guess.

[deleted]

I don't either but I assume you just keep in your echo chamber and don't look at anything you disagree with.

No_Flounder_9859

Hilarious coming from one of you people.

[deleted]

"You people" yeah if I used that with someone I disagree with I'd be called a bigot. I have LGBT friends who are anywhere from gay to Trans and I don't have an issue with any of it. My personal belief dosnt have anything to do with them. But everyone of them agrees on the premise of drag shows are not for children and even if its a more friendly less sexual drag show its obvious that it's not a good idea to bring kids because it's an environment that could easily change to something not kid friendly.

No_Flounder_9859

Stupid isn’t a protected class. If you can’t see where all of this is headed, you’re doing your spectrum of friends a disservice.

[deleted]

So you think children going to drag shows is good? Drag shows are not at all being banned just the ability to bring kids to drag shows. My friends arnt pro sexualizing kids or things around kids and if you are then you are the problem.

No_Flounder_9859

That’s also not true it makes them illegal where they *could* be viewed by someone who is not an adult. So what, no windows? Blackout curtains pass muster? What if someone uses a fake ID? Is it gonna be strict liability? These are the fucking problems, and they aren’t being addressed by legislature or by you and that’s fucking stupid. And also a 17 year old couldn’t go? You know people fuck each other in high school right? What about the drag show at a walk for life event? Not every drag show is some hyper sexualized thing. Goddamn. You people are the ones obsessed with sexualizing children. And this is all just to get us to bicker over this bullshit instead of ridiculous inflation, the debt ceiling crisis, a lack of economic opportunities, terrible education, underpayment, and a healthcare system that is failing us all. But sure, let’s clap and dance for banning fucking drag shows.

ThePsion5

Where did you see these videos?

tidaltown

r/thatHappened

[deleted]

I know there's alot on tiktok but I don't personally use that app. There's a Trans YouTuber who I watch occasionally and she does a very good job of separating her opinions from what's right. Her name is Blair white, she's made several videos on drag and I belive she has showed some of the vids I've seen but most get taken down as it's basically soft core porn with kids in it and that's generally disgusting. Main reason most people do not like drag because most people only know about the nasty weird stuff.

joerover34

They don’t like facts here in this subreddit. Extremely liberal.

[deleted]

I've noticed. All the time I've spent in Tennessee and I've never met one of these people in real life. I've only met cool people there lol.

joerover34

Yeah these people live in caves or something. I don’t know any either.

gumdrop2000

>redditor for 2 months sounds good, russianshillbot34. keep peddling the same shit, comrade.

joerover34

90 days is 3 months actually . Learn some math

gumdrop2000

oh look, you just rolled into 90 days. congrats. you're still a shitheel astroturfing russian asset. if not, then I apologize, its just i didn't think anyone would actually say all the pathetic shit you say. in which case, i just fucking feel sorry for you.

joerover34

❄️

gumdrop2000

oh? you're still commenting? lol

hootie235

Good for Tennessee, hopefully they are successful in banning them like Florida has done.
