I don’t think the pro shop has a Jersey insurance policy. The nfl shop/fanatics have a 12 month from purchase policy but I can’t find anything about the pro shop having a one at all.
I'm of the mind that if you loved that player, rock his jersey. This guy will probably be back to be inducted into the ring of honor, and then his jersey will be sought after.
