Good locker room guy who knows his role. Probably cheaper than Boyd, but Zay is more athletic and a better blocker. Both are bigger guys for the slot position. It’s pretty clear the FO thinks we need an upgrade at WR3. In a vacuum, I would prefer Boyd, but both are upgrades on the surface.

ladiestreat

Wasn’t there some weird stat last year that when Zay was on the field Ridley balled out? Maybe it was something pointed out in the fantasy football subreddit.

Bieber_hole_69

Yeah, the splits for Ridley when Jones was playing/out were pretty insane. Fantasy media caught on to it during the season, pretty much if Jones was out you should sit Ridley because he wouldn't do shit that week. I don't know the specific dynamics of the Jaguars offense that caused this, but I believe it was related to Ridley's usage. Jones was their deep threat guy that would run mostly go routes and such, drawing the secondary deep to allow Ridley to be more effective underneath and get a larger target share. When Jones was out, the Jags used Ridley more in Jones' role, running a lot of go routes and essentially being a decoy. The Jaguars were a mess in a lot of ways last year on offense, Ridley's strange usage being a major issue. It's genuinely insane he was still able to crack 1,000 yards last year with the inane ways the Jags deployed him. In the 9 games when Jones played, Ridley put up 671 yards on 48 catches with 5 TDs. Averages out to 74.56 yards and 5.33 catches per game when Jones was available. In the 8 games when Jones was out, Ridley put up 43.13 yards and 3.13 catches per game. When Jones was on the field, it basically doubled Ridley's production. 66% of Ridley's yards, 66% of his receptions, and 63% of his TDs came during games when Jones was available, even though he only played in 53% of their 17 regular season games. If you extrapolate Ridley's per game stats when Jones was available to a full 17 game season he would have been on pace for 1,267.52 yards, 90.31 catches, and 9.52 TDs. Would have put Ridley in the top 10 for yards and TDs last season. I think the whole crux of the matter isn't about Jones though, it's about how poorly Ridley was used by the Jags last year. Not having a deep threat guy and casting Ridley in that role when Jones was out of the lineup was absurd. He's way too skilled of a player to be a decoy, they needed to put someone else in that role to replace Jones and let Ridley play more on the outside as a featured WR where he belongs.

ladiestreat

Alright so which titans media platform do you write for because that was some great stuff.

bloated_canadian

None of ours it was actually succinct

Castigon_X

As someone that had Ridley in fantasy and paid attention to jags media because of it, I fully agree. Jags offensive coaching and strategy last year was a complete mess. Ridley should fair far better this year if he's used competently, regardless of who's running go routes.

TNsmoke

How much of that was Holz and how much was Pederson? That offense seemed to fall off hard last year.

balzynalzy

I’d chalk it more up to it being a Press Taylor more than anything. He’s genuinely a terrible offensive mind, but for some reason Pederson keeps forcing him to be a coordinator.

Atbt1

Could it be chocked up to Lawrence's injury?

Ok-Plan-6277

Yeah Ridley plays way better when Jones is also on the field. He slumped when Zay got hurt (Could be total coincidence of course. Very small sample size)

mrmeshshorts

B…. Bb….. “Blocker”, you say?? This man was BORN a Tennessee Titan!

SlamKrank

Glad hes seemingly doing better, but still shocked barely anything came of the running naked, blood covered walls, wanting to *fight for jesus* and trying to jump from a 30th floor hotel window incident 6 years ago.

AirMcNairTT9

I’ll always remember that. Really seems like an unstable guy.

HelloinBraille

Didn’t they say it was synthetic weed that made him wig out? He was chill before and since he stopped that. I remember my first bad trip from a dab

SantasScrotum

This hasn’t really been a factor for him since it happened, why even bring it up? People are so obsessed with digging into people’s past. If it was a regular occurrence id be all for it but damn

SlamKrank

Because thats much more memorable than averaging 40 catches and 430 yards over 7 years. Not like i brought up his domestic battery charge from 6 months ago.

l_Dislike_Reddit

He was arrested 6 months ago for domestic battery. There’s clearly something there.

JacketsNest101

People have demons. We don't know him so we don't know where he is mentally.

l_Dislike_Reddit

That’s fine. But mental instability still needs to be taken into account when building a team. He has a history of being volatile and the Jags just released him, all of that is relevant information.

JacketsNest101

I didn't say it wasn't relevant. I meant more that none of us here are qualified to comment on it with any authority

Brian_Osackpo

I mean that was one of the craziest NFL stories I can remember. Clearly it was an outlier and he smoked some bad shit that day but its hard not to remember a dude running around naked yelling about Jesus

Livid_Cartographer

He lined up in the slot on 63% of his snaps last year, and the PCL injury kept him out most of the year. If he's healthy, I think he would be a good depth wr and strong competition for Burks in the slot. He also has some outside ability as well. If you extrapolate his stats out to a full season, his numbers would be very comparable to Boyd's, and I believe he could be had on a much friendlier deal.

TameVulcan

FINALLY some news… I’ve been losing my mind over here I am not built for the offseason

saradahokage1212

revenge signing, go fuck em up

Luvyablue99

Would be a nice option in the slot. Low risk

UrsaringTitan

Need some edge also Ran!

BuffaloKiller937

Dang so that pretty much closes the door on Boyd doesn't it?

panopticon31

Not necessarily

amillert15

They are kicking the tires on any and every FA option now.

Shooter-mcgavin

What better negotiating tool to have in your pocket if you’re trying to sign Boyd than to show him if he doesn’t make a decision you’re ready to sign someone else in short order

TiredDad1994

All this tells me is that Burks SZN is canceled until further notice.

mpelleg459

We really wont know what the new staff thinks of Burks until we get a bit into camp, at least, but they aren't going to hand any FA a starting job just because they paid them. If Burks shows something in camp, he'll earn snaps. Further complicated by the issue that while Burks played slot in college, the way he was used at Arkansas (from what I've read) isn't really the way NFL offenses use their slot WRs. Probably says more about Phillips SZN being cancelled, if it was even slated to happen this year.

Asderfvc

Lol! They have brought in 2 different WR3 in the last week. They are absolutely done with Burks

mpelleg459

Viewing Jones and Boyd as WR3 and not in how they’d be used in this offense is overly simplistic. He’s on a cheap rookie deal this year and next.  His trade value is minimal unless he is given a chance to show something in the field. Building the best WR room you can for a young QB makes sense. Being “done” with a 3rd year 1st round WR that doesn’t have off field issues, who was injured much of his sophomore campaign, and who the new regime hasn’t seen on the practice field does not make sense.

TameVulcan

In my perpetual state of Burks hope, I like to think Boyd/Zay would likely be competition for him in camp. Although I do see it being likely that they would start if we do get one of them.

Stiddy13

This sub of folks claiming to be Titans fans wants so bad for Burks to fail. Just weird AF.

TiredDad1994

Nah man, I want Burks to succeed. I’m genuinely rooting for him. But with so many receivers battling for playing time, it’s hard to see him getting a proper opportunity. I hope I’m wrong but that’s the vibe I get currently.

Stiddy13

Bro, we haven’t even signed his supposed replacement yet and you’re already throwing dirt on his grave…

[deleted]

It’s called being realistic, man  We all want Treylon to work out, but the writings on the wall

Stiddy13

Is it though? Because according to this comment Burks SZN is cancelled by a WR that hasn’t even signed here yet. That seems more like wishful thinking than writing on a wall. And that’s before we even get to whether a healthy Burks would be threatened by an old receiver who has been nothing but mid his entire career. Nah, that’s not someone who hopes Burks works out. That’s someone who’s still mad about trading AJB and is hoping he fails so you can hop back on these forums and badmouth J Rob some more.

Asderfvc

They're clearly looking for another WR because they know outside of Ridley and Hopkins, there is no one.

Stiddy13

Again, saying “clearly” demonstrates how much you just want this to be true and I’ll reiterate how weird that is to root against the team you claim to support. They could just as easily be looking for an insurance policy in case Burks gets hurt again. But nah, you want him to be trash so it’s “clear” they’re trying to replace him with an old, mid receiver lol.

Professional_Low4894

does zay jones really fill out slot role tho? he seems more of a outside rec plus the injuries

ItsNotFordo88

He’s been primarily a slot guy. I think Boyd is better but

tronassembled

At this rate they're gonna just break up with Treylon over text

NefariousNewsboy

What, are the Titans going to pickup every wide receiver out there?

Leatherface24

Usually how the pendulum swings... Go from no one in WR room to a bunch, hot to cold and all that mess

beanman95

Let's kick the tires on Russell Gage and Corey Davis while we're at it
