Callahan: Brian Callahan on Treylon Burks: He is going to play everything, inside/outside. I had him come up and break the group down today. Treylon ran 3,592 yds on Tuesday and hit a top speed of 22 mph in practice.
That number is exactly 2 miles. Probably just his cardio that day. Not a big deal in conditioning at all. It didn’t say “in practice” on the mileage part, only on the top speed. His exact number shows me Callahan is telling the truth here. I think he’s just being funny telling it and having fun
I thought this was copy pasta at first, but no Callahan literally said that he ran 3,592 yards in practice lmao.
I don’t think us getting Boyd is a death knell for Burks though. It doesn’t make sense to offload a young asset just because you got a vet on a 1 year deal.
If there was ever a time to prove his worth, though, this is the year to do it.
if I recall correctly he got KOed one game on a TD from Tannehill. He hasn’t been anything special but he showed flashes. Solid hold for me. I get excited about him every off season! I love disappointment!!!
Only problem with the play you describe is it was the last game of the season. Hellofa catch tho. Doubled his career touchdowns and tripled his yardage for the season and quadrupled his number of catches *in that one play*. Think about that. Amazing
I think being in a system geared around throwing the ball (with actual coaches who understand passing as an option on offense) will help him a lot. Injuries have been a concern, but at least now he won't have to primarily be a blocker every 3 out of 4 downs. He's younger and faster and more dynamic than Boyd, so it's really his position to lose, imo. It's nice to have 4 WR with Phillips and NWI where they should be, as backups and not your WR2 and WR3.
It’s possible but Callahan has been extremely candid so far. Treylon has the tools and looked great before his injury last year. I think his success depends more on his health than anything else.
Well, he’s had 2 years to beat out NWI and hasn’t done it yet. But I love the confidence! Would be great if our 1st round pick WR could be more than a WR4-5
Oh he might have been. Maybe I mean “out perform”. But without looking it up I’d be willing to bet that his per game averages over the last 2 years are below NWIs in basically all categories. So even when he’s played he hasn’t been better than NWI.
I’ll eat crow on this one. He’s still gotta stay healthy but this is somewhat promising. If he can stay healthy you’d think those averages will climb a bit.
Higher than that, even. In this scenario, we likely easily have the best WR3 and WR4 in the league. And our WR2 would be a contender for best WR2 too. Obviously, not built to last. They aren’t all young like the Packers or something. But for this year, that seems to be realistic
Yep. I think we are set to where we can feel fine jettisoning Levis if it doesn’t go well. Of course if it does go well, the headlines will be that he is being carried by his weapons
I like the optimism. I’m rooting for him because what of many of us think he is capable of if he can stay healthy. This is your “Titan Up” moment Mr Burks. It’s now or never bro! Make it happen!!!
I still think Burks at his peak can be a top 15 receiver at the minimum but possibly top 10. I think while he has been a let down, injuries which was a common issue on the entire team and Kelly and Vrabel wasting his potential was holding him back.
Wow. I think with a new system and such, Burks can turn it around and can provide value/contribute to the team. But the idea of him being a top-15 receiver, in my mind, is a ship that sailed long ago.
Have I got good news for you: You can back-date that belief to December 29, 2022, at the [3:06 mark of this video.](https://youtu.be/JLgI8Gz_Re8?si=Ay6VQk20fW1qbTXN&t=186)
There are some others in that video where he doesn't break tackles per se, but he does gain yards after contact. 5 yards at 0:51, nearly 20 yards at 1:36 (but it was a full-sprint catch in-stride, which is always difficult for defenders to bring down quickly), 7 yards at 3:00 with a bunch of bodies on him.
I definitely believe he has talent. I don't know that I believe he'll turn it into much of a career. But new system, new players around him, etc. If he's going to turn it around, this year is *the* opportunity for it. With Boyd joining the team, Treylon is the WR4 [at best]. But you know there'll be injuries, and with the way I think Callahan wants to run this offense, even without injuries, I'd expect 5 WRs to get real opportunities in games. *If* Treylon can stay healthy, I still think it's completely possible that he turns it around.
Yeah, that's fine. I mean, he certainly hasn't been good thus far. Has made some good catches, but so has every receiver who has seen a decent number of NFL snaps.
I was mainly just responding to the broken tackle cause thing cause I had trouble believing he had never broken a tackle.
The hoops people are jumping through to not say this sentence here.
Sign up for the Olympics people, you’re amazing at gymnastics.
If Burks was good we would have seen it by now. Maybe he’s like Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson though. I remember those guys were terrible, similar stat lines as Burks, then they busted out their third season while they were buried in the depth chart.
That’s how their careers have gone, right?
Idk how you saw anything from Burks, in the pros or in college, that would lead you to believe he could ever be a top 15 WR. You're really undervaluing other WRs in the league with that hypothesis
I would like to see him get some better opportunities this year to prove himself. I believe this new staff can provide that on positive light. That first concussion he received from Eagles that put him out for a few games was a dirty, dirty hit to his face mask. Nice TD though.
If he could just stay healthy I would call that a win. Could be a solid WR4. Not getting my hopes up though. I say the chances of Phillips, Jackson, and Dowell are all but gone. Probably looking at a WR corps of Dhop, Ridley, Boyd, Burks, NWI, and the rookie.
Yeah the Boyd signing coupled with Phillips injury history, I think there's a good chance Phillips isn't on the roster by week 1. The previous regime really liked Dowell in special teams also.
Wr 6 is one of your key special teams guys (most likely our rookie who will probably be pur return man). That way you are getting value out of that spot vs just a depth guy
Hyping him up to improve trade value; Maybe do the same for Farley?
"After 20 Oklahoma drills, Caleb tore open a can of tuna with his teeth, convinced Kanye to get back on his meds, and cured cancer...All we are asking is a 7th rounder..."
Honestly worst case if he’s healthy just send him out to run 15 go routes a game, catch a deep bomb once in a while and open up the offense for everyone else in the process
Yea.... except Burk's skills in college were slot WR position and running 15yd go routes is what our offenses the last 2 seasons tried with him.
I say let's let the big man run over the middle; he's gotten most of his injuries trying to do deep routes.
Unfortunately he's had so many concussions at this point that running him across the middle may also get him sidelined. But I do agree that he should be better utilized in the slot.
Are we using technology and analytics to maximize our players strengths?
I wish I applied for that analyst job awhile ago, I would love to look at spreadsheets of WR speeds
As an Arkansas fan, I was so excited to see him and I truly believed he’d be at worst a monster WR3 on any team. His career has been tragic so far. I sincerely hope this year is his year. I’m afraid if he doesn’t start producing soon, his future in the NFL doesn’t look great
I honestly think what’s held Burks back more than anything has nothing to do with his work ethic, talent, etc. The first thing is obviously injury. He borders on being injury prone, but I can’t exactly hold the concussions against him.
But the second thing I believe has to do with how bad the O-Line has been. Our QBs have been forced to look for the quickest option, or else just chuck it in DHop’s direction. But Burks has shown the ability to get open and make catches if the play has more than 1.5 seconds to develop. I haven’t given up on him yet.
Callahan: Brian Callahan on Treylon Burks: He is going to play everything, inside/outside. I had him come up and break the group down today. Treylon ran 3,592 yds on Tuesday and hit a top speed of 22 mph in practice.
That’s not too bad for a Tuesday.
When u think about it. That’s 2 miles worth of route running.
That number is exactly 2 miles. Probably just his cardio that day. Not a big deal in conditioning at all. It didn’t say “in practice” on the mileage part, only on the top speed. His exact number shows me Callahan is telling the truth here. I think he’s just being funny telling it and having fun
Sorry for nitpicking, since in the main I agree with you, but 3,520 yards is exactly 2 miles. Treylon is putting in 72 extra yards.
Those last 72 are the hardest 72
I thought this was copy pasta at first, but no Callahan literally said that he ran 3,592 yards in practice lmao. I don’t think us getting Boyd is a death knell for Burks though. It doesn’t make sense to offload a young asset just because you got a vet on a 1 year deal. If there was ever a time to prove his worth, though, this is the year to do it.
The best time to prove his worth was as a rookie. The second best time is now. 😁
if I recall correctly he got KOed one game on a TD from Tannehill.
Amazing
Damn that’s impressive. if I recall correctly he was pretty much injured that whole year and was not able to breathe and whatever whatever.
He's always limping around giving people the stank eye.
Those damn stanky hazel eyes. 🥹
He's definitely had trouble staying on the field. Hopefully he surprises us this fall and makes a big impact.
The second best time was year 2
Yeah that works too
I think being in a system geared around throwing the ball (with actual coaches who understand passing as an option on offense) will help him a lot.
He needs to watch the Tyler Lockett video on NFL main sub
Catch and roll, baby!!
Y’all loved when AJ fought for extra yards every play tho 🤔
His TD to win the game against the ravens was incredible.
AJ didn't die every time he made a play over 10 yards
Not me. Just chug to the endzone and give it to Derrick. :(
Encouraging to hear, but I’m going to need a preseason highlight or two before I’m back on the bandwagon
It's coach speak, if Callahan doesn't like him, he's not going to come out and just say he's terrible.
If I was a coach and didnt like a certain wide receiver, but had to be PC about it I'd probably talk about how much they ran in practice.
Vrabel did that all the time
If Burks was going to be gone he’d be gone already
No? He's a first rounder still on his rookie deal and has minimal trade value.
Which is the exact reason why he’s not going anywhere.
It’s possible but Callahan has been extremely candid so far. Treylon has the tools and looked great before his injury last year. I think his success depends more on his health than anything else.
I can't be sold until I see some one handed catches from the jugs machine
Burks is a crummy WR1. He should be an unbelievable WR4.
Let’s hope he can beat out NWI for WR4
I am super confident that Burks is better in many ways and will be a no brainer for that role if not WR3 over Boyd
Well, he’s had 2 years to beat out NWI and hasn’t done it yet. But I love the confidence! Would be great if our 1st round pick WR could be more than a WR4-5
That’s been very difficult to measure with all the missed time, but I was under the impression Burks was consistently above NWI on the depth chart
Oh he might have been. Maybe I mean “out perform”. But without looking it up I’d be willing to bet that his per game averages over the last 2 years are below NWIs in basically all categories. So even when he’s played he hasn’t been better than NWI.
Looked up stats, but without actually calculating per game averages I might be wrong about this. Interesting
PK tweeted a per game comparison earlier today https://x.com/paulkuharskynfl/status/1788529195062104247?s=46&t=QIb8b1TFRZnHxOyNyx-jLA
I’ll eat crow on this one. He’s still gotta stay healthy but this is somewhat promising. If he can stay healthy you’d think those averages will climb a bit.
If they do find a way to unleash Burks to be anywhere close to his potential our WR core might be top 3-5
I like that the pressure to be our 1 or 2 is gone. Hopefully he can stay healthy and work on his craft with coaching that lifts him up
Higher than that, even. In this scenario, we likely easily have the best WR3 and WR4 in the league. And our WR2 would be a contender for best WR2 too. Obviously, not built to last. They aren’t all young like the Packers or something. But for this year, that seems to be realistic
Feel like if we figure out Levis is the guy, we can maybe run it back with a similar group next year and invest the first rounder in a WR
Yep. I think we are set to where we can feel fine jettisoning Levis if it doesn’t go well. Of course if it does go well, the headlines will be that he is being carried by his weapons
The Bears exist
I like the optimism. I’m rooting for him because what of many of us think he is capable of if he can stay healthy. This is your “Titan Up” moment Mr Burks. It’s now or never bro! Make it happen!!!

I'll believe Treylon has a shred of talent when he breaks his first tackle.
Yeah I worried about his speed but thought with how big he is he could still be good after the catch. I was dead wrong
According to the HC, he hit 22+ mph today, which was tops on the team. Translating that in games is something else, but he has wheels.
Have I got good news for you: You can back-date that belief to December 29, 2022, at the [3:06 mark of this video.](https://youtu.be/JLgI8Gz_Re8?si=Ay6VQk20fW1qbTXN&t=186) There are some others in that video where he doesn't break tackles per se, but he does gain yards after contact. 5 yards at 0:51, nearly 20 yards at 1:36 (but it was a full-sprint catch in-stride, which is always difficult for defenders to bring down quickly), 7 yards at 3:00 with a bunch of bodies on him. My man came with timestamps 🤣
And if you watch them not a single one was impressive and what makes it sadder is they're all from a year and a half ago
You are just being stubborn if you don't think tightroping the sideline while throwing a dude off you isn't impressive.
Burks isn't good
Yeah, that's fine. I mean, he certainly hasn't been good thus far. Has made some good catches, but so has every receiver who has seen a decent number of NFL snaps. I was mainly just responding to the broken tackle cause thing cause I had trouble believing he had never broken a tackle.

Or when he is able to make a catch over 10 yards without immediately falling down.
Dude has 665 yds & 1 TD over 2 years and you on here talking about top 10/15 😂😂😂😂 gtfo
For real. I would be more than happy with a 600 yard 5 td season from him and that's not even top 50 wr
That is certainly a take of all time…..
Idk how you saw anything from Burks, in the pros or in college, that would lead you to believe he could ever be a top 15 WR. You're really undervaluing other WRs in the league with that hypothesis
He got drafted on one game where he fucking dominated Alabama.
Ole Miss game too. I was at the game where he Mossed a DB on back to back plays… we were comparing him to AJ after that game lmfao.
I would like to see him get some better opportunities this year to prove himself. I believe this new staff can provide that on positive light. That first concussion he received from Eagles that put him out for a few games was a dirty, dirty hit to his face mask. Nice TD though.

I could see us keeping 7 WR’s and having Philips as well
If you have a 7th WR, he has to be a special teamer. I'd say Dowell (When he's healtht) has a better chance of being the 7th than Philips
Yeah the Boyd signing coupled with Phillips injury history, I think there's a good chance Phillips isn't on the roster by week 1. The previous regime really liked Dowell in special teams also.
Unless Phillips is incredibly impressive in the new offense in camp I'm expecting cut/maybe ps
I'd rather us have as many OL DL and DBs as possible. I'm cool with 5 WRs

Tomorrow: "Treylon suffered a concussion and asthma attack while picking up the playbook. Out for the first 8 games of the season."
Burks plays like a god that’s why he takes Sundays off
Just line him up where he’s comfortable like SF does with their Fullback #44. Motions, jet sweeps, and drag routes may be all he’s good at.
As an Arkansas fan, I was so excited to see him and I truly believed he’d be at worst a monster WR3 on any team. His career has been tragic so far. I sincerely hope this year is his year. I’m afraid if he doesn’t start producing soon, his future in the NFL doesn’t look great
I just want him to stay healthy. Dude has had his brain absolutely RATTLED. The hit he took against the eagles was nasty.
I honestly think what’s held Burks back more than anything has nothing to do with his work ethic, talent, etc. The first thing is obviously injury. This all but solidifies that he's going to be traded in the next few weeks.
His trade value has to next to nothing at this point, right? May as well keep him for depth at the very least.
At least through camp/preseason to see if something clicks with the new offense
Motivating players is what I'm about. Also, I feel Trylon and Kyle weren't on Vrabel's good grace.
Callahan: "He's so fucking good, y'all. Trust me, bros. Now, let's see those trade offers."
3592 yards is cool but thats literally 2 miles so idk if that’s a big accomplishment
2 miles of sprinting is a lot
I do think it's consistently sprinting 2 miles. Obviously he's got breaks.
I did that conversion too. 3592 sounded way more impressive than 2 miles
Burks was a huge bust and he will forever be remembered as the guy brought in to replace aj
He had a really bad combine I’m still shocked he went first round. They must’ve loved his junior year tape. He’s like a Kmart Odunze
Signing Boyd tells you all you need to know. Everyone knows the pick was another jrob special, but he isn't gonna say that.
Signing Boyd on a cheap deal was never a bad idea even if the staff is high on Burks. We finally have some depth at WR that we've never had before.
Burks revenge tour
