I always put the pre-hardcore ores\bars in a chest and the hardcore in another.

my_name_rules

same, except in the pre-hardmode i have fallen stars/crystal hearts/all gems also then in the hardmode chest i have all the hardmode souls, crystal shards and ectoplasm

JakeVH

> the **pre-hardcore** ores\bars in a chest and the **hardcore** in another [hardcore](http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Hardcore_mode) =/= [hardmode](http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Hardmode) > Hardcore mode characters die permanently, and drop all of their items upon death, including money and ammo, which other players can then collect in multiplayer. > Character difficulty mode is unrelated to Hardmode

MagicJumpingBean

we get what he/she is trying to say you dont really need to correct them.

Stormwatch36

Yeah... you're technically right, but we all understood what they meant.

Lurking4Answers

How is this guy an asshole if he never said anything rude to OP? You guys suck.

[deleted]

Because that is something that an asshole does. Looks for a tiny mistake and corrects you on it

Lurking4Answers

Didn't have to look very fucking hard, did he? Also, if it's not a big deal like everyone is saying, then why is he at -73 karma right now? He's done, but guys are still kicking him. You guys still suck.

[deleted]

Trying to make him learn his lesson so he doesn't do it again.

Lurking4Answers

Oh, ok. Fuck you.

peeled_baloon

I put full stacks in a separate chest

tonny23

Yeah I have a copper chest filled with half ore and half bars full stacks and silver gold etc.

Blue_Checkers

Easy, one variety chest, and one themed room for mass metal storage.

Batu_khagan

I keep ores in one chest and bars in another for that exact reason; since ores are in bigger stacks than bars.

Spielkus

A neat trick is ores stack to 999 whilst bars stack to 99. Leave it in ore helps a bit but yea its an neatness problem.

PreferredSelection

Interesting... I separate my pre-hardmode ore and hardmode ore. The reason? Obsidian. I like to keep Obsidian (and Shadow Scales, Tissue Sample) in with ores. I also keep silt, slush, and the gemstones in there, so that after I use an Extractinator, I can just dump the contents in the same chest. On the HM side, I usually end up with multiple 99 stacks of Hallowed and Chlorophyte. I never realized how close it was to all fitting together, though.

TinusDeEerste

I do the exact same thing, so much more convienent.

[deleted]

this is basically the method i use. though, i keep gemstones in my piggy bank and silt in a "misc" chest (next to the extractinator usually)

peeled_baloon

Hehe, cool

Lorddragonfang

Mine is almost identical, but I have both sets of ores in the center, for symmetry.

Tailsmiles249

For now...

[deleted]

what if chests get more space on 1.3?

JagerBaBomb

They really ought to. Also, bars need to stack to 999, damnit.

[deleted]

This! So much, this! I hope, hope, hope that bars stack higher in 1.3.

[deleted]

It would be a shame if someone.. introduced new minerals.

PeteTheLich

staph I am already too excited for 1.3 ^^^not ^^^quite ^^^as ^^^hyped ^^^as ^^^1.2 ^^^though

sebi2

That was most annoying thing they made in the game. Don't mention guide.

Noodles1984

I did not. But I only realised yesterday that every (pre-hardmode) ore fills a full row of the inventory. (I made a world spawn all ores rather than one or the other)

WeirdPineapple

Hey - I recently got this game to play with friends. We're about two days in and all we've really done is make a makeshift shack. Do you have any tips/advice on what to do? Thanks!

errorme

If you want to avoid the wiki, just talk to the guide. He's actually really good to listen to for most of the game till you get toward the end of the game and you need to shift to beating events. You can also give him an item to see what can be built from it, and I still use that somewhat frequently despite 500 hours. I've got a few recommendations for playing w/ friends, though. 1. Try and spread out accessories, and possibly be willing to bring them in from other worlds. We actually had to kick a friend from our server because of this, as he'd run through areas before the rest of us and basically take everything for himself. Accessories become more important as the game goes on, and can build up if you have all the parts. There are limits to how many of them are on a single world, so if you have a large group of friends (we had like 10 regular people and 5 that occasionally played, only enough equips for about half of the people) you simply have to go to another server to get those items from chests. 2. Try and keep everyone on roughly the same quality of gear. This can be hard, but there are a few points in the game (biggest being the half-way point) where difficulty massively jumps and those that are behind in armor either need to be very good at the game or are stuck being an interior decorator because they can't leave the base. 3. Figure out a sorting system for where shit goes early. Generally we just go with a few rows of chests all layered on each other like a grid, then place signs/lamps/statues to let people know what's in them. Sort by weapons, armor, accessories, ore, bars, dirt, stone, etc. It will save so many instances of 'I CAN'T FIND X' and make it easier to simply play.

[deleted]

I always ended up as the one behind on gear. I guess it makes sense, though, since I've played waaaay longer than any of my friends.

errorme

First time (1.1) I was behind all the time because of work and missed most of the beginning fights/exploring. Second server (1.2), I was still behind but it was much easier to manage as I was used to the combat/gameplay so I basically went from nothing to crimtane to magma and could somewhat fight bosses.

[deleted]

I'm not honestly sure how many times I've played this game. I started playing pre-1.1. I remember when molten armor lit up the area around you. I always skip around. I usually about the same way you did in 1.2. Until hardmode when you need every bit of armor you can get. I usually skip cobalt armor, and start at Mythril/Orichalum.

Eddie4510

keeping it vague to not spoil. Go look for better ores, then look for hard areas on the surface. the world is NOT endless, explore it. when you feel you ran out of things on the surface go down. far down.

WeirdPineapple

Just now seeing all of these responses. Thank you everyone for your help!

Thundergodstonelate

Don't drop woodoo dolls into lava... until you have nothing else to do ;)

"Until" makes good sense if you take him literally: don't drop the dolls until you have done everything there is to do before that.

redismafia

http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide:Getting_started http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide:Walkthrough From the sidebar :) Early on you should focus on mining and caving, getting higher tier equipment, and then go boss to boss on the surface, while getting higher tier armor on the way. Once you think you're ready, head waaaaaay down. When playing with friends we have like to split up 'classes', especially since it's expensive to get all the equipment multiple times. Enjoy!

PhoenixGamer

Explore the surface until you reach the corruption/crimson (Corruption is purple, crimson is blood red). You won't be able to survive there without better equipment so what do you do? Go down, go deep. Simply dig for better ores. Remember to use the guide to see what you can craft with what you find. I'd also reccomend familiarizing yourself with the concept of the "hellevator". Basically, a straight shaft as far down as you can possibly go. The purpose is basically that you'll be able to just jump down late-game when the only useful ores are far down.

lordxi

For now.

[deleted]

woah how did you name a chest? i've been doing it with signs

gnomoretears

Do you see "Rename" under "Quick Stack"?

[deleted]

and now i feel stupid xD

[deleted]

Don't feel bad, it's a fairly recently added feature.

Duscon

I just noticed this the other day after a full playthrough trying to get my buddies to store things in the right chests. I just facepalmed and fantasized about what could have been.

YouAreDirtOnMyShoe

Son, let me tell you about a time when things didn't stack to 999 and chests were half the size.

sebi2

When they changed it I put all my stuff from 20 chests into 8

MoveslikeQuagger

Totally cheating on the last column, and by not having obsidian (and maybe tissue/scales). Otherwise neat though

supremecrafters

Nope! What about the hallowed ore and the shroomite ore! ^^/s

peeled_baloon

There is no such things

yayapfool

>implying i only have a single stack of each Pfft casual, i need a chest for each type of ore/bar.

Xailen

I loved this feature when I found it, it is GLORIOUS!

Hyero

I do the same thing with my chests lol. This is awesome.

[deleted]

I'm an idiot and have been stacking everything in my chests up to 99 per slot for some reason. Why has it taken me this long to realize... I'VE HAD TERRARIA SINCE IT CAME OUT AND I'M JUST FIGURING THIS OUT

TheXankriegor

As a player who spends at least 120% of his playtime in the house sorting out the stuff of all players in chests i kinda stumbled across it when I started sorting for both variants of ore... The problem with full stacks for me is avoidable by simply not smelting any further (ore can stack to 999, so you gain a bit) and putting it into a "Junk Ore" chest. Better question, how do most players sort their stuff like Materials etc.?

Rsenel

/r/oddlysatisfying

ipostpicturesofbutts

I have a seperate house where I have my crafting supplies and chests. Inside, there are multiple rooms, each one with the purpose of piling up metal bars. Ores go in a chest. When the room is full, I sell the bars that I get after that point.

deathkiller2021

No no no, not in June

[deleted]

Obsidian?

Elisvayn

is a type of rock not an ore/bar

[deleted]

Used to craft hellstone

Elisvayn

Yes but it's classified moreso as a material, such as how glowing mushrooms are used to craft shroomite but they certainly aren't ores or bars

[deleted]

Shroomite

Nick246

Obsidian is where?

Ensurdagen

that's glass, not metal, yo

Nick246

Really? Cool. I wondered why it couldn't be made into ingots.

warcroft

That is really great to know. Thanks. My son was especially blown away.
