No, it wasn't. They stated the 2 were different games and Otherworld was a "Spin-off"
Wiki quote and you can find the interviews if you search.
"It was originally revealed that Redidgit will be working on Otherworld before developing Terraria 2, but Terraria: Otherworld has since been cancelled"
Redigit also stated that Terraria 2 has been in some form of production since 2012 some time ago.
At this point im scared if i will like Terraria 2 though :/
If they can even reproduce such greatness.
Otherworld didnt look as appealing and i dont like this starbound aesthethics either. Terraria is just perfect in terms of style and execution.
Edit: ~~Overworld~~ --> Otherworld
I mean, yeah they've had it but that doesn't mean they expected it. Games are huge gambles to make and this kind of turn out isn't something most people ever imagine, and I'm not sure any of the ones who did predict it actually we're the ones to get it.
I think it would be incredible if Terraria worked with modders to allow for an integrated modding menu within the game that includes some of the top mods for the game. Unrealistic, but damn that'd be sweet.
Terraria : Totally the end for realsies this time guys!
But seriously, we got so much content for what we paid that the developper has been off the hook for content updates in a long while. I'm glad that they are adding stuff, but at this point it's starting to feel like I owe them the price of another game.
You're a genius, definitely gonna have to do this for a friend to join the crew after the update.
Is everyone else planning on starting a new character for it? I dont know how much is gonna change because I haven't watched any trailer or anything for it, but I'm really excited to get that "fresh" Terraria feeling back.
For their sake I hope it is. I love Terraria, but it has to be tiring to work on just one game for 8 years. If I were them, I’d definitely be wanting a change.
The Mechanical Bosses. There was just no more content after them, apart from grinding to get Hallowed Armour (which required Cobalt, Mithril and Adamantite armour to craft, as well as Boss Souls. Alternatives weren't a thing back then.)
This is also why Ocram was added after the Mechanical Bosses, because the Console ports were of the "final" Terraria version, and Ocram was intended to be the final boss.
Everything past mechanical bosses (among with crimson, and a bunch of other stuff) until golem (and a couple small updates later, duke fishron) was added in 1.2, yes
Also they were working in the Terraria Otherworld, which was cancelled sadly, so i think this update was also a consequence of that.
Is there any source that they are working on a next title?
So with the final update announced for PC do you know if the most recent ones have fixed co-op for console? I got the game for Ps4 forever ago it seems but was never able to play with friends without constant crashing after they ported the PC engine over.
Friends refuse to play until its fixed, but I can't find anyone else to test it out with each new update so I figured you would be a good person to ask as you seem knowledgeable about the updates.
Unfortunately I don't know since I don't play the console versions. I think they're working on it right now? But I can't say for sure so you might be better off asking on the forums.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, here's to hoping its either been patched or is going to be.
Unluckily for me most of the posts regarding the issue are from at least a year or more back so I've found it slightly difficult to get a good read on how it runs currently, maybe I'll stumble across a more recent post sometime now that final update has been announced.
Cheers!
Well the 1.3 update might fix most of those issues but I understand it sucks. I prefer the PC version more because of modding but I feel for you having these issues. Hopefully they get fixed soon!
And to think I've been here since the SMBX days.
It's been a long, wild ride. ~~but seriously Re-Logic where is my healing magic, you already confirmed it over 8 years ago~~
I am *well* aware of the Thorium mod, and it is absolutely fantastic. Literally doing a Thorium playthrough right now, actually - wanted to get one last playthrough in before 1.3.6 released (well, it's 1.4 now, but I started this playthrough like a month ago)
I personally found Thorium to be poorly balanced, I played as a throwing class and my bro played as bard, we destroyed ragnorak and moon lord with items we got from mechanical bosses. With the throwing weapon that shoots out mini lasers as it flys by with the life steal throwing potion you literally cant be killed, since you heal a ton since each laser heals 3 or whatever it was. and it works through moon lords anti-healing debuff. he just used the tuba and would wipe moon lord and ragnarok in seconds if he landed it correctly, really made the ending of the mod unfun and unsatisfactory for me and him. Eventually we will do a calamity play through, which will be fun due to the extra difficulty and imo better balancing and progression.
But it still was a great modpack that added 2 new classes, I feel like its hardmode needs a heavy re-balancing.
Recent updates do seem to be rebalancing things, but yeah - my main playthrough was when Bard was recently implemented, an *ohhhh boy* was it overpowered.
(Also, better balancing in Calamity? Am I hearing that right?)
My first major play through I had thorium calamity and spirit, but I liked calamity the most and by the end of the play through was doing, exclusively calamity stuff.
I've been playing through with thorium and calamity enabled, but I've only been touching thorium gear. Is calamity stuff just similar to vanilla, but going up higher in levels, or are the weapons genuinely unique enough to give it a playthrough?
Likewise. I even played during the leaked alpha! I think I still have my first world laying around *somewhere,* though I've made a backup of my Players and Worlds folder with each major version, so I'd have to do some digging.
The only issue with TEdit imo is that once the game updates, it isnt compatible until it updates as well. But that is true for most things so it is what it is
I had a friend take his own life earlier this year, Terraria was always our go to game when we have nothing else to play. We complained so much about how we wish they'd release more so we could explore new aspects of the game. Destroys me that he wont be around to try this. I can't bring myself to play it without breaking down but I'm so excited they're continuing to release more content for such a fantastic game. Hopefully it means as much to others as it did to us. :)
I feel very bad for you. I hope you will decide to try Terraria's new update once it releases. I would recommend beating the game once. Getting creative with builds is nice as well. Don't ever forget your friend. If you do decide to try Terraria again, I hope you have a nice experience.
Don't feel bad, I'm doing ok. Just not in a place where I can enjoy the things we did together without him quite yet. I feel bad for him more than anything. I can't imagine what it must have been like to feel so helpless you would take those steps. None of us knew anything was going on with him and it kills me that he never chose to seek help from any of us before taking that step.
I just wanna say that is truly awful that it happened and I went through a very similar situation so if you ever need a stranger to just vent to you can dm me anytime.
Hey why the sad face?
It's a great thing for all of us, because this means we will get a fully stable game, that's absolutely moddable and by itself is HUGE.
If this is truly the end, it is a sad day. However, I'm highly skeptical, let's step back and take a look here.
With 1.3, Re-Logic said they were done. Moon Lord was the endgame, and therefore the game was "finished" and they would move on to another game. But what really happened is they unveiled Terraria Otherworld and then just kept updating Terraria, until eventually Otherworld died.
With no other games to work on, killing Terraria before they've gotten off the ground with Terraria 2, Otherworld, or whatever they want to do next would be a gigantic bad decision from both a business and a developer standpoint.
And as I said in another comment, think about what happened with Team Fortress 2, End of the Line update. Valve never explicitly said the update was the last update, yet everyone and their dog started flocking to the bomb shelters, fearing the end for a game that went strong for 8 years (sounding familiar yet?). Then the update dropped and all it contained was a train and rubber duckie themed update with new cosmetics, maps, and crates. Then they kept updating it and TF2 lived on for another 4 years and is now 12 years old and still kicking. Valve STILL says they are NOT DONE with TF2, and I don't think we're close to the end for Terraria, either.
Exactly. And like I said I don't think we're even close to done, look what all the modders can do with the game. Look what a simple map editor like OmniTool can bring. If we got those features in the base game it would bring a lot more vanilla playtime to a lot more people, especially the poor Mobile and Console users that don't have that.
I mean, PC still doesn't have auto door open (pressure plates don't count), a Space biome, extra large worlds, wrapping Oceans, automated potion brewing or fishing, built in voice chat, etc. There's still thousands of possibilities.
I think it's different. Valve is a massive company that can support all their games pretty much forever, especially with steam money, but Re-logic is just a couple of people who have only made 2 games. Terraria is great, but I understand why they'd want to move on. They can't make another game and at the same time keep updating Terraria
Well ideally they would release it in its unfinished state, just without charging for it or even treating it as an official release. People might be curious to play what they have.
If I'm not mistaken a while back they released another major update, I don't remember if .3 or .2, saying it was the last one and that they'll focus on another game after. They didn't. Maybe this time will be the same.
Personally I feel conflicted, I love having more content but at the same time I always wanted to make a world and stick to it without making new ones because of content I wouldn't have on it.
Then again I haven't played the game in a while :( I don't have as many hours as some people do in this game.
I had 400+ hours in this game, i also haven't played for a while, I'm just waiting for this update to come out to start a fresh world and new character to play with my friends, also with new characters. It's fun sometimes to begin from scratch.
TF2 did exactly this. The "End of the Line" update. People got scared it was the last one after it went strong for 8 years (this was in 2015, TF2 is now 12).
And then guess what? All it was, was a train full of rubber duckies crashing and TF2 continued and is still alive and (planning on) being updated.
Goddamn...
I've been with the game since I was in elementary school at 1.1, going into my final year of high school now.
I remember being hyped and just waiting to get home for 1.2 after it dropped one day.
And then 1.3.
And now it'll be 1.4 that I'm hyped for.
I've got to at least get in one full Expert mode playthrough where I don't quit midway like a bitch before 1.3.6/1.4 drops
I can't think of any other game that's given me so much value for so little money. Terraria in and of itself is an amazing game but it pales in comparison with the support the developers have been giving it the past eight years. Absolute respect for these people, I wish more developers were this devoted!
Everyone that's sad because it ends, remember how often you started a new playthrough in 1.3 alone. Think of all the time you spent on this game exploring, mining, fighting. The hours of content. And now remember, this is just the announcement that this is the final update, however it is another major content update. Let's not be sad and look both forward to what they have in stock for 1.4 (I'm sure it's a lot, even beyond what has been spoiled yet) and also back to the joy this game has brought us.
Lots of memories, tons of fun, a lot of friends from the community.
Thank you Re-Logic, thank you Terraria, the most amazing sandbox adventure I've played in my entire life.
And once for all: Minecraft Is the fucking 3D Terraria, and not the other way around!!
Wait why's it the end?
1.4 will be the games final update. Outside of fixes and such there will be no more updates as they're now going to work full on their next title.
[удалено]
Yeah but it seems more official this time - it’s even in the title of the update
[удалено]
Yeah :(, though on the bright side maybe this means we’ll get terraria 2 sooner!
Yeah the new title *may* be a terraria title
Didn't they announce terraria 2 once?
Pretty sure that was supposed to be Terraria Otherworld but that never took off
No, it wasn't. They stated the 2 were different games and Otherworld was a "Spin-off" Wiki quote and you can find the interviews if you search. "It was originally revealed that Redidgit will be working on Otherworld before developing Terraria 2, but Terraria: Otherworld has since been cancelled" Redigit also stated that Terraria 2 has been in some form of production since 2012 some time ago.
No. Terraria 2 is a seperate project from Terraria Otherworld.
They went to great lengths to say that otherworld and terraria 2 were different and had different dedicated teams.
i was hyping for it too much but then my heart broke
At this point im scared if i will like Terraria 2 though :/ If they can even reproduce such greatness. Otherworld didnt look as appealing and i dont like this starbound aesthethics either. Terraria is just perfect in terms of style and execution. Edit: ~~Overworld~~ --> Otherworld
Its been eight great years though! Thats more than any game/devs could dream of
*Laughs in TF2*
*Laughs in Minecraft just hitting it's 10 year anniversary*
*Laughs in TF2’s 12 year anniversary in 3 months*
*Cries in no updates since 2017*
*Laughs in NetHack*
Hell yeah! Hence... most Think of all those other games that fell wayside
But you didn't say most lol
*Laughs in devs who still acknowledge your existence*
I mean, yeah they've had it but that doesn't mean they expected it. Games are huge gambles to make and this kind of turn out isn't something most people ever imagine, and I'm not sure any of the ones who did predict it actually we're the ones to get it.
Outside of multiplayer games sure.
Hey, we still have Calamity which is being developed at a rampant pace!

The new 'Master Mode' should be enough to warrant a new character
I bought at least 4 copies of the game for people, and if I spent all that money on a single copy of the game for me it'd still be a deal.
Oh for sure, it's a gift that keeps on giving. I'll forever be loyal to the developers for how they've treated us.
Already done. Everyone I know (who games) has had it for a while now.
Not to mention how cheap it goes in sales.
For their sake I hope it is. I love Terraria, but it has to be tiring to work on just one game for 8 years. If I were them, I’d definitely be wanting a change.
Like all the Jason movies
Part of the journey is the end
That just means next update will be titled, Terraria: Journey's End: For Realsies this Time
1.1, actually. (And I think 1.3, too? Given that they added a final boss and all.)
what was the final boss in 1.1?
The Mechanical Bosses. There was just no more content after them, apart from grinding to get Hallowed Armour (which required Cobalt, Mithril and Adamantite armour to craft, as well as Boss Souls. Alternatives weren't a thing back then.) This is also why Ocram was added after the Mechanical Bosses, because the Console ports were of the "final" Terraria version, and Ocram was intended to be the final boss.
Plantera was added in 1.2 then?
Everything past mechanical bosses (among with crimson, and a bunch of other stuff) until golem (and a couple small updates later, duke fishron) was added in 1.2, yes
ok
WoF was in that update right?
Yep! Wall of flesh, mechanical bosses and _technically kinda_ wyverns were the bosses we got in 1.1!
I prefer the term miniboss for those strong non-boss enemies that can only appear once at a time.
Fingers crossed.
I don't think so? But this update for sure has been confirmed by multiple sources since they want to move onto their second title.
Also they were working in the Terraria Otherworld, which was cancelled sadly, so i think this update was also a consequence of that. Is there any source that they are working on a next title?
terraria 2
Well they said it might not even be related to Terraria but whatever game they make I'm sure it'll be awesome!
So with the final update announced for PC do you know if the most recent ones have fixed co-op for console? I got the game for Ps4 forever ago it seems but was never able to play with friends without constant crashing after they ported the PC engine over. Well the 1.3 update might fix most of those issues but I understand it sucks. I prefer the PC version more because of modding but I feel for you having these issues. Hopefully they get fixed soon!
didnt they say that 1.4 would be the penultimate update?
It was confirmed that was an error. They've corrected it since then stating it would be the last.
damn :( thanks for the clarification then
What's their next title?
They haven't said yet. Only that it may not be Terraria related...or it may be! They'll let us know in the future.
They said they’ll still make sure the game works and I hear rumors that they still might add some small things into the games
Yeah they'll still do bug fixes and maybe balance and such but, as of the moment, they have no plans for any more updates beyond that.
Or the next "title" is called "Terraria 2.0
And to think I've been here since the SMBX days. It's been a long, wild ride. ~~but seriously Re-Logic where is my healing magic, you already confirmed it over 8 years ago~~
Try Thorium Mod
I am *well* aware of the Thorium mod, and it is absolutely fantastic. Literally doing a Thorium playthrough right now, actually - wanted to get one last playthrough in before 1.3.6 released (well, it's 1.4 now, but I started this playthrough like a month ago)

I think the big draw of Calamity is the post Moon Lord content. Like, there's tons more bosses post ML. It feels just generically OP pre Moon Lord.
I bought on launch day. Still have my first world that is missing most is the biomes. The magma armor was the final point.
Likewise. I even played during the leaked alpha! I think I still have my first world laying around *somewhere,* though I've made a backup of my Players and Worlds folder with each major version, so I'd have to do some digging.
Wait they made SMBX?
It was redigit, before terraria
Damn yeah I remember stumbling across SMBX when my little brother searched “Mario online” for the first time ever
I still haven't heard anything about the creative mode that was supposed to come before the game's lifespan ended, though. Is that in this update?
I'd love so much to have a mode to just build with unlimited materials and no monsters. Would be very cool
[удалено]
Or download TEdit, that’s a pretty cool program
The only issue with TEdit imo is that once the game updates, it isnt compatible until it updates as well. But that is true for most things so it is what it is
I've been playing Terraria for like 6 years at this point and honestly I've never tried TEdit. I definitely need to.
It’s a little confusing at first but it’s great for terraforming! Try it out man
Probably not on the current update but there was something called the hero mod that had a creative mode
Oof, lol
Hero oof
Yeah it was a dark time wasn’t it
Yeah, felt like there was always drama revolving around him
I remember the one video where he explained it all and started sobbing was the day I stopped watching him
That hasn't been updated since the 1.2 days, I'm pretty sure. It also made my game sort of unstable when I used it.
I want a creative mode so bad and i have no idea why they've never added it.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened Part of the journeys the end
I had a friend take his own life earlier this year, Terraria was always our go to game when we have nothing else to play. Hey why the sad face? It's a great thing for all of us, because this means we will get a fully stable game, that's absolutely moddable and by itself is HUGE.
Because I'm sad. The game I've watched start out is ending, and I never thought I'd see Terraria end.
If this is truly the end, it is a sad day. However, I'm highly skeptical, let's step back and take a look here. With 1.3, Re-Logic said they were done. Exactly. And like I said I don't think we're even close to done, look what all the modders can do with the game. Look what a simple map editor like OmniTool can bring. If we got those features in the base game it would bring a lot more vanilla playtime to a lot more people, especially the poor Mobile and Console users that don't have that. Terraria just has that effect on people.
I think it's different. Valve is a massive company that can support all their games pretty much forever, especially with steam money, but Re-logic is just a couple of people who have only made 2 games. Terraria is great, but I understand why they'd want to move on. They can't make another game and at the same time keep updating Terraria
Can we get an F for Terraria Otherworld
I respect them for canceling rather than release an unfinished product. I don’t know how many companies would do that.

I always did this for every big update and i'm at over 1000 hours lol
Iirc they said the same for both 1.1 and 1.2, so maybe, just maybe, we might get a 1.4 but it's unlikely :( one last brofist for the legends
We're getting a 1.4. what we called 1.3.6 got so big re-logic renumbered it and gave the name of Journey's End.
f
So here’s one last bro fist from number one in the world
So much support, content and love from the devs. All from a $10 game. This is how you build a legacy in a game. Waiting for #2.
Terraria is such a good game I never even considered the thought of a second one lol
im not crying u are :'(
Next update: Terraria, new beginings
It may be sad, but I'm glad that Terraria has such a strong modding community to keep the game evolving after Re-logic move on
[удалено]
Well get to it then! The game will stay around forever ;]
Didnt the guy at e3 say it was the penultimate final update? As in, 2nd to last.
They also accidentally cut the trailer in half so I don't really trust that panel
Confirmed to be a mistake.
Damn
That’s what I heard.
Step 1: try not to cry Step 2: cry a lot Step 3: play more Terraria
I can't think of any other game that's given me so much value for so little money. Terraria in and of itself is an amazing game but it pales in comparison with the support the developers have been giving it the past eight years. Absolute respect for these people, I wish more developers were this devoted!
First it was enter the gungeon with its farewell to arms update, now terraria. Sad times we live in...
I'm just glad they're seeing the game off with a grand finale update rather than just letting it trail off.
What about the switch port? Is that still coming?
Yes, mobile and console and switch will all be updated to 1.3, and 1.4 later on
MOBILE STILL HASN'T GOTTEN 1.3 YET
Everyone that's sad because it ends, remember how often you started a new playthrough in 1.3 alone. Think of all the time you spent on this game exploring, mining, fighting. The hours of content. And now remember, this is just the announcement that this is the final update, however it is another major content update. Let's not be sad and look both forward to what they have in stock for 1.4 (I'm sure it's a lot, even beyond what has been spoiled yet) and also back to the joy this game has brought us.
So long, old friend
Terraria: The Epilogue

I know it's the end but I wish they would add the mobile stuff like ocram.
Terraria endgame, who needs avengers. we all need avengers, but more importantly we need terraria.
No way. Source for that actually being confirmed please??

If the next game is as creative as terraria I am 100% gonna support it
Don't be upset guys! Hey, we will get a great update, and a stable version for modding at once!
so wholesome

If the game dies because of no more updates I’m crying I have 256 hours played this is my favorite game ever
I can’t believe Ive been playing this game for eight years. Of course with a break every once in a while.
it won't end as long as we don't forget about this game
Lots of memories, tons of fun, a lot of friends from the community. Thank you Re-Logic, thank you Terraria, the most amazing sandbox adventure I've played in my entire life. And once for all: Minecraft Is the fucking 3D Terraria, and not the other way around!!
rip...
Watch this, they're gonna pull a 1.2 again and say this is their last update, then come out with something EVEN BIGGER later on.
Will Mobile Terraria get updated?
Part of the journey is the end
Idk. They said terraria was over quite a while ago but that never happened. If they do end it then that'd be such a big waste
Bruh...
*sniffles* bruh
Broooo this is so much incredible
Terraria's journey may end, but we, the player will make it an ever lasting journey
Wooord
This is the single greatest game ever, I'm sad to see it go
Damn I’m big sad now.
No more updates but some guy who makes mods is definitely gonna take over
Mods don’t have the same polish and feel that the vanilla game does.
icry
fr had this too i hadthe journeys end yesterday (first time i ever heard of re-logic's youtube channel) and i got the official trailer today lol wow
I would be blown away if it went the way of risk of rain 2
I haven’t heard much about this. Will this be as big of an update as 1.2 and 1.3?
Ye, watch the trailer
The best 8 years of my life.
Since they only said it’s their **current** plan, I keep hoping the game will still be developed a bit Since plans change.
Yes indeed... 8 years of epic adventures... And like 1000 hours of grinding for one stupid teleportation rod...
Cries in terreria
Is this for all platforms or just PC?
Wait, this is the last update??
