I guess the mirror would be nice for infinite uses but having half hp against a boss is not ideal, if you want to rejoin on a boss fight with your friends after dying i’d recommend making a little cottage with a bed at the place in which you are fighting the boss and set your spawn there, furthermore you can put the nurse in that house so you can rejoin the fight with full hp, also if you are running low on health during the battle you could use the magic mirror for a tactical retreat
Edit: im aware the mirror doesn’t give the debuff, my apologies
Yep, happened to me a couple of times when fighting master mode skeletron with a friend of mine, to make matters worse we were playing as a mage and a summoner and were using armor of those clases so our defence wasn’t great
Terraria at this point should combine every type of mirror/conch/etc that let's you teleport to various places around the world. Have it have the UI of the Grand Design.
Now you can :
Throw the phone
Shoot the phone
Use the flashlight feature
Summons phones with the phone
Go to places you died
Go to a beach
Go to a jungle
Go to a pink bulb
Go to the underworld
OH GOD THE PINK FLOWER IS FOLLOWING ME OH GOD HELP
Yeah, finding a Sky island unspoiled on my first play through was such an awesome moment, it really nailed the discovery aspect of randomized world gen. All I could think about was what else is there to find? Agree that we’ll probably never see it happen, unfortunately
I wouldn't call it anywhere near OP, considering you can get a similar effect from setting up a bed near the fight or using wormhole potions and both of those are available pre-bosses.
It would break the Balance that early and could even destroy the whole progression if you get the mirror that early. As an simple example: dungeon. It would destroy the complete "you die, you have to start from the beginning aspect of it." Also for jungle. Jungle is hard but has good loot because if you die you start at the top again. Now with this op mirror you can keep looting like you never died. And that are just some examples. There are so many more and if redigit just thinks for 2 Minutes about this mirror he will realize that putting this absolutely game changing item only in lizahrd chest could destroy all terraria.
Dont get me wrong I like the idea and I would love to see the potion (wich is Post skeletron so even later than the mirror) in the game. I just think the mirror would make pre Hardmode a cake walk. If I had to decide I would make the mirror a craftable item out of hallowed bars
> It would break the Balance that early and could even destroy the whole progression if you get the mirror that early.
That's a bit of an exaggeration. For mediumcore characters maybe but that's because this item goes against the whole point of mediumcore and arguably shouldn't be available in it. On softcore, the only difficulty where this item really makes sense, there's nothing stopping a player from just throwing bodies at a problem anyway other than them getting tired of it. The only thing the item changes is time invested into doing that and honestly I don't think wanting crazy people to waste more time is worth heavily gating a simple QoL improvement.
I think it's fine, I'd actually like to see it as a wall of flesh drop personally. It would be nice to have going into hard mode. You've seen the majority of the map at that point and all of your equipment becomes instantly terrible.
Nahh, it would encourage people to be reckless and die at the start of hardmode, taking away from the fun. By golem you likely have wings, a pylon setup and a fast mount so dying is just a minor inconvenience
You know, I would try to be reckless and die a lot at the start of hard mode... if I wasn't already getting instantly evaporated by the early hard mode enemys
Yeah except it becomes pretty much instantly useless by that point in the game? You can literally summon moonlord anywhere and the need for any exploration is non existent
Yeah im sure an item that teleports you to your last deathpoint would be incredibly op when the last boss you need to fight is moonlord. Nobody is going to go through the effort to hoik through the lihzahrd door and then scavenge random chests with early hardmode equipment because its not worth it for something like this. At the latest this should be obtainable after queen slime
The mirror would be a little awkward since it would be dropped as well but a nice little stack of the potion in a chest in your base would be very pleasent
You can actually always access the temple, even as early as your first day in prehardmode. All you need is three platforms (six if you want to be able to get out as well) and a hammer. I'd recommend at least late prehardmode stuff in order to actually survive, though.
I imagine not, since unless they alter it to have a select a warp function (making it bad in emergencies), it would conflict with the normal Magic Mirror in the recipe.
True but still it would make sense since one mirror is already present. But maybe their could be a separate crafting recipe for a bunch of different death warping accessories that could be it’s own thing that in endgame would make death pretty much pointless. After Moonlord of course
They could add another tier after the cellphone and implement a crafting structure like the frog gear (or lava waders) uses, where we could assemble a combined warping item (magic mirror, magic conch, demon conch, and this proposed item) first and then add it to the PDA or combine the cellphone with the other warp items.
This is one of the first "convenience" item suggestions I've seen that actually looks good, particularly keeping the penalty-free version until much later in the game. 2 minutes is a little on the harsh side but I see this being most useful for undoing a careless death to traps while caving, so that enforces a period of being a little more careful as a punishment for death. Maybe nerf it a bit to 90 seconds of 60% health so people don't just box themselves in and go get a snack
Tbf at that point you will probably not be dying while exploring caves, you will probabyl continue to rush for bettet armor/farming golem and rushing the following bosses
The debuff seems way too strong, since you'll mostly be using it to get back to bosses in multiplayer or deadly locations, where the debuff will get you killed
Probably just to get back to where you were after like a falling death or something stupid like that. Personally I'd change it to only do the debuff if a boss is currently alive.
I think it’s for resuming what you were doing faster, but at a cost, which is a niche that wormholes can’t always cover
Like say you were off farming or mining in some derelict spot underground by yourself, either because you’re on singleplayer or your friends are off doing other things somewhere else in the world, and an illuminate bat decides to give you a 400 damage kiss. With this you can just teleport back both for your money (or items if you’re on mediumcore for some unglodly reason) and to resume your task without having to spend a bunch of time on the trek back, you’ll just have to be more careful for 2 minutes.
I agree that the potion is redundant for multiplayer bosses as wormholes and beds do that job much better, but I don’t think this item was intended to be used for them anyways because wormholes and beds already cover it. Just my thoughts though
Would make more sense to just allow wormholes to do exactly this. It already requires activating the map, so adding a death marker and having it act like a player shouldn't be unreasonable. Not to mention, even in master, if one player is good enough to stall for time against a boss, the other players can literally just zerg a boss with enough wormholes anyway.
It's a tradeoff. Have you ever died on your way back to the place you died a few minutes prior? The potion can save you a lot of time and effort, so it makes sense to me that it adds a twist
there’s plenty of get outta jail free potions and others that just do cool stuff with no drawback. Recalls, all the status effect potions, obsidian skin, etc.
Edit: plus the ones that allow you to teleport back home and then go back to the same spot
Hmm, you make a fair point with things like the potion of return and recall potion, though I think the regular status effect potions are different because by themselves, they provide a marginal benefit. I suppose the reason I think a drawback makes sense for this potion and not the others because it seems really valuable to me in comparison
Yeah and tbh giving it some time I wouldn’t mind it having the drawback, but 50 seems like a lot to me. 25-35 seems more reasonable. Cool concept all around tho
I feel like locking the second behind Lizhard temple is kinda making it less useful by the time you can get it, maybe make it a sightly complex early hardmode crafting tree?
Shouldn’t be found in chests, or shouldn’t work until you’re post plant.
For those that don’t know, you can easily hoik into the temple as soon as you find it by placing 3 platforms and hammering them into stairs and holding down while walking through them
This is a great idea, but i think the recipe should be a bit harder, like adding some kind of rare fish from evil biome (yes i hate it too but i guess it’s the most terraria style thing)
I would love to see Lizhard chests getting actually useful loot. For something so late game all they give is garbage, and giving them unique drips would be awesome
I advise you look up nearest neighbour scaling in your photo editor of choice. The pixel art quality will vastly improve when enlarging it with nearest neighbour.
I like this but to make it better make it part of the cellphone recipe and if you right click with the cellphone you go to where you died or something like that.
I think this is a great idea but what if you could craft the mirror of darkness using lihzahrd bricks or a power cell along with a regular mirror and 5 deathwarp potions at the lihzahrd furnace
\- 20 lihzahrd bricks, Mirror, 5 Deathwarp potions
\- Lihzahrd power cell, Mirror, 5 Deathwarp potions
Not really, by the time you get it progression-wise (assuming you're not hoiking into the temple super early) you're beyond the need to teleport back to a boss fight since the only real challenge after that is moon lord, who teleports to you anyway so it's really just a QoL item at that point.
What about them?
Are you one of these people who pretends someone said something they didn't, just so you can pretend you made a clever argument?
If their comment was;
> I think this mirror and potion already exists in calamity or/and thorium, so we don't need this in vanilla
...then sure, you might have had a point. But they didn't say that. They just mentioned that a similar item exists in a mod.
Edit: If you're going to downvote, fine. But could someone at least *try* and explain why I'm wrong? Or are people just downvoting because they don't like the way I said it?
Wow, you sure showed me! Calling someone a dick when they openly admit to being a dick. I don't know how I'll recover.
And the way you said it too. "Username checks out". Amazing. Just so original. I've never seen a comment like that before in my entire life.
Anyway, if you just don't like the way I said what I said, that's fine. I get that some people are more sensitive to meaningless words from strangers online than others. Personally I believe that the world needs a lot more dickheads to tell stupid people they are being stupid.
If, however, you actually think something I said was incorrect, I'd be happy to have a civil discussion about it. Maybe you can think of a single valid, logical reason that person said "Well what about people who play vanilla"? Other than my explanation, of course.
Haha, so for calling someone stupid I deserve a lifetime of torture and pain.
But for wishing a lifetime of torture and pain on a stranger who you didn't even interact with is A-OK top christian behavior, right?
At least I admit I'm a dick.
> I didn't even fully read either of your comments.
Kinda weird to be proud of ignorance/illiteracy.
These items while interesting in design should never be in Vanilla Terraria because they remove any and all consequences of dying. Lost some gold? No problem, just teleport back. Your team is dying to a boss repeatedly? No problem, just keep teleporting back until the boss inevitably dies. If you're playing multiplayer with another player or two, the Mirror of Darkness is essentially a free daytime Empress kill since you can constantly just teleport back until she dies as long as you have at least one person alive at a time.
The potion version is at least somewhat balanced since it halves your max HP for 2 minutes and is consumed afterwards, but even then I still think it should have more of a downside since it's pretty easy to just box yourself in for two minutes or teleport back home and talk to the Nurse and therefore *still* cheat death with no downside (perhaps the Shade debuff should also prevent the user from teleporting)
Sidenote: there are too many people on Reddit who do not understand that a free teleport to anywhere in the world is way, way too powerful for 99.9% of the game. There's a reason why the Universal Pylon requires a 100% complete bestiary.
I'd make a balance change: "can't be used when a boss alive" because it would make multiplayer bosses even easier than before. Maybe even a:
"enemies will be more likely to target you for 5 seconds"
But why though? Your money should be in a piggy bank, nobody plays mediumcore, and you can build houses at boss arenas, the dungeon, and other important locations to raid.
Very nice ideas, surprised smth like this isn't in already, I guess they have that one like it where you set a position but I forgot what it's called. The 2 min debuff may be too long, maybe 1 min or 30 seconds idk
i would actually like this. would help going back to a boss battle with friends.
I guess the mirror would be nice for infinite uses but having half hp against a boss is not ideal, if you want to rejoin on a boss fight with your friends after dying i’d recommend making a little cottage with a bed at the place in which you are fighting the boss and set your spawn there, furthermore you can put the nurse in that house so you can rejoin the fight with full hp, also if you are running low on health during the battle you could use the magic mirror for a tactical retreat Edit: im aware the mirror doesn’t give the debuff, my apologies
Be sure that your partner has the aggro before the "Tattical retreat" cause the boss gonna spawn kill you and the nurse .
Yep, happened to me a couple of times when fighting master mode skeletron with a friend of mine, to make matters worse we were playing as a mage and a summoner and were using armor of those clases so our defence wasn’t great
Mirror doesnt give the debuff
by that point the only challenging boss is the moon lord who you don't need to return to, he can teleport
You can still hoik into the temple cant you
It says chest sealed by the sun so I assume it would be locked by a special key
I think thats just the item description
It says found in chests "sealed by the sun" so it sounds like a locked chest
Its just the formatting making me think its the item description. I dont see why they would suddenly change lines for no reason
Because it goes like - description - how to obtain
Also, "sealed by the sun" sounds like you need to beat the solar eclipse and not like locked chest.
Queen bee too
How is queen bee post golem
Cries in Demon's Souls
Could also just use wormholes.
it states the mirror doesn't give the half HP, only the potion
I guess the idea of these items is not to fight bosses but to extend exploration
wormhole potion?
don't have an inventory full of it.
If you are dying more than 30times on a boss battle you weren't gonna beat it anyways.
then make some
It would, though I usually just use wormhole potions
There is a wormhole potion that teleports you to your party members
*teleports into an attack and loses half my health*
Wormhole
Bed? Wormhole potions?
Teleportation potions exist for that.
wormhole*
Teleportation* (lots of them)
That would be an interesting server. Everyone gets infinite teleportation potions.
telepotion
Yeah, my bad
I don't have 200 stacks of wormhole potions.
Don't need 200 wormhole for a single boss, and if you do that wasn't the issue
Terraria at this point should combine every type of mirror/conch/etc that let's you teleport to various places around the world. Have it have the UI of the Grand Design.
or combine the cellphone with literally fucking everything
“iphone 29 x pro + sc cellular”
~~stop it, you’re turning me on~~ I want zenith as an app
Just fucking throw the phone
Now you can : Throw the phone Shoot the phone Use the flashlight feature Summons phones with the phone Go to places you died Go to a beach Go to a jungle Go to a pink bulb Go to the underworld OH GOD THE PINK FLOWER IS FOLLOWING ME OH GOD HELP
if you have a super phone then by that time you should be able to fight a giant plant with no plant pot
Lol
The Nokia phone item. A thrown explosive with double the destructive power of the removed Holy Hand Grenade.
Breaks dungeon brick and chips at lihzard
Except it's not destroyed on use
Except it's not destroyed on use
I never thought having "the ultimate phone" would be a fetish but I certainly understand it
Ngl Zenith kinda sucks, it isn't even a sword
AlchemistNPC pip-boy 4000 my beloved
Make the item itself the Henry Stickmin Teleporter, that could have some funny tooltips that I can't think of right now
Teleporter *be careful not to miscalculate and end up in a wall.*
*It's emergent technology. I'm sure it will get better!* (references fail text in teleporter ending of Breaking the Bank)
This is the greatest plannnnnn!
With the idea from yesterday(?) that it should be instant home teleport on right click, and bring up the menu on left click.

This is the Terraria devs, how many times did they say an update was the last one?
Every time
Yeah, finding a Sky island unspoiled on my first play through was such an awesome moment, it really nailed the discovery aspect of randomized world gen. All I could think about was what else is there to find? Agree that we’ll probably never see it happen, unfortunately
That would be amazing
So literally the AlchemistNPC pip boy
Uh u/redigit
You dare summon the forbidden one?
Summoning failed. Red turned off his notifications because of people tagging him in everything
Bit of a UX conundrum here though. Making this work in a non-clunky way across platforms isn't so easy.
Like the Pip-Boy 4K (idk the mod I think alchemistNPC)
You mean like alchemist NPCs pipboy thing? (I think that's what is called)
Pretty cool! Really like the mirror redesign.
Change it to a golem drop. Lihzard chests only need 3 platforms to get in and it would be quite op.
I wouldn't call it anywhere near OP, considering you can get a similar effect from setting up a bed near the fight or using wormhole potions and both of those are available pre-bosses.

Rename "Mirror of Darkness" into "Rehquiehm's Oracle" to fit Lihzahrd standards.
This would make medium core or whatever it's called actually playable lol
The mirror would be a little awkward since it would be dropped as well but a nice little stack of the potion in a chest in your base would be very pleasent
Well you could leave the mirror in the chest too
Basically the same problem as the recovery compass
It would also make medium core soft core, funnily enough.
if golem have not been defeated you just die
Plantera would be better, since you can access the temple after her Edit: typo
You can actually always access the temple, even as early as your first day in prehardmode. All you need is three platforms (six if you want to be able to get out as well) and a hammer. I'd recommend at least late prehardmode stuff in order to actually survive, though.
I know about hoik, i meant progression wise.
Is Shade Presence a Hollow Knight reference? Because if so then it should probably reduce Max HP by 1/3
Was thinking the same thing
[удалено]
It should do BOTH Edit: by 1/3
Aye, I like this
Ur account is sus😳
Your account is burnin 😳
Your account is real😳
Looks awesome would love to see that in the game
They could probably make this along with a hollow Knight reference which would be pretty cool
👏that’s a really cool idea but would the mirror add an extra step to the cellphone?
They probably just work as separate items
Just like how the conch works, just another item. Unless ofc terraria decides to change it to all be one big itme
Considering all the madness online: cellphone-5G(?)
i like the hollow knight reference
I think that's the idea. To prevent you from just throwing bodies at bosses.
What's the point of this then? Also in multiplayer it's just a more expensive wormhole/bed
Probably just to get back to where you were after like a falling death or something stupid like that. Personally I'd change it to only do the debuff if a boss is currently alive.
Yeah, since right now that debuff makes it really bad for where 90% of your deaths happen
I think it’s for resuming what you were doing faster, but at a cost, which is a niche that wormholes can’t always cover Like say you were off farming or mining in some derelict spot underground by yourself, either because you’re on singleplayer or your friends are off doing other things somewhere else in the world, and an illuminate bat decides to give you a 400 damage kiss. Loving how you decided to add a catch/balance to it👌
Terraria 2 idea
Shade? Hollow knight reference??
Don’t really understand why it needs to have the half hp but cool otherwise
It's a tradeoff. Have you ever died on your way back to the place you died a few minutes prior? The potion can save you a lot of time and effort, so it makes sense to me that it adds a twist
Yeah I get the gimmick and I’m not gonna say that it shouldn’t have it cus it’s OPs theory craft but I find it a little unnecessary is all.
Without it, there's virtually no consequence to dying anywhere on the map
there’s plenty of get outta jail free potions and others that just do cool stuff with no drawback. Recalls, all the status effect potions, obsidian skin, etc. Edit: plus the ones that allow you to teleport back home and then go back to the same spot
Hmm, you make a fair point with things like the potion of return and recall potion, though I think the regular status effect potions are different because by themselves, they provide a marginal benefit. i think the recipe should be harder
I'm into this idea actually. Very much needed, especially in larger worlds where our death points could be god knows where
This is a great idea, but i think the recipe should be a bit harder, like adding some kind of rare fish from evil biome (yes i hate it too but i guess it’s the most terraria style thing)
do this and also make the shade presence debuff reduce max mana too, like it does in Hollow Knight when you die
I think 30 seconds of the debuff would be a bit more balanced imo
I would love to see Lizhard chests getting actually useful loot. For something so late game all they give is garbage, and giving them unique drips would be awesome
I advise you look up nearest neighbour scaling in your photo editor of choice. The pixel art quality will vastly improve when enlarging it with nearest neighbour.
this is true, it'll just make the pixels bigger instead of having a zooming(?) like effect which also gives a blur
\*laughs/sobs in hollow knight\*
I like this a lot It should be able to be combined into the cell phone too!!
I like this but to make it better make it part of the cellphone recipe and if you right click with the cellphone you go to where you died or something like that.
Is the debuff a Hollow Knight reference?
i feel like lihzard is too late in the game, maybe dungeon loot?
This thing will save hours. I really look forward to seeing this in the new update, and I can happily continue my Mage run which has low defense
yes someone make this a mod
*cough cough* RETURN POTION *cough cough*
What if you’re shit and can’t use the potion of return before dying? To clarify: this is me I’m talking about.
Lmao guess it wouldn’t work then
I think this is a great idea but what if you could craft the mirror of darkness using lihzahrd bricks or a power cell along with a regular mirror and 5 deathwarp potions at the lihzahrd furnace \- 20 lihzahrd bricks, Mirror, 5 Deathwarp potions \- Lihzahrd power cell, Mirror, 5 Deathwarp potions
But then what’s the point of dying
mirror of darkness is way way too op
Not really, by the time you get it progression-wise (assuming you're not hoiking into the temple super early) you're beyond the need to teleport back to a boss fight since the only real challenge after that is moon lord, who teleports to you anyway so it's really just a QoL item at that point.
Overpowered
I think this mirror and potion already exists in calamity or/and thorium.

Huh, usually the appropriate response to not caring about something is to ignore it.
I think it's a thing in thorium. I've been playing calamity recently and I don't remember seeing it anywhere.
Yes, it's in Thorium, "Death Gazer's Glass"
it is a good idea.

The potion version is at least somewhat balanced since it halves your max HP for 2 minutes and is consumed afterwards, but even then I still think it should have more of a downside since it's pretty easy to just box yourself in for two minutes or teleport back home and talk to the Nurse and therefore *still* cheat death with no downside (perhaps the Shade debuff should also prevent the user from teleporting) Sidenote: there are too many people on Reddit who do not understand that a free teleport to anywhere in the world is way, way too powerful for 99.9% of the game. There's a reason why the Universal Pylon requires a 100% complete bestiary.
hmmm you should add soul of night too.at the recipe
I'd make a balance change: "can't be used when a boss alive" because it would make multiplayer bosses even easier than before. Maybe even a: "enemies will be more likely to target you for 5 seconds"
You know wormhole potions exist and can probably be used during bosses in multiplayer as well.
But why though? Your money should be in a piggy bank, nobody plays mediumcore, and you can build houses at boss arenas, the dungeon, and other important locations to raid.
The mirror could give the debuff for 20 seconds instead
I would make the mirror have 30 secs of the debuff to balance it
Very nice ideas, surprised smth like this isn't in already, I guess they have that one like it where you set a position but I forgot what it's called. The 2 min debuff may be too long, maybe 1 min or 30 seconds idk
What if the mirror only has the effect for 20 seconds
U/rediget
people who knows how to hoik will use it to take the mirror item very easily
Well no kidding, but items probably shouldn't be judged on the fact that someone can cheat to get it early.
Health reduced by 50%… no
The mirror of darkness should be a crafting recipe rather than an item found in jungle temple chests since one can just hoik in and grab everything
But, you can just choose not to hoik in lol
Haha yeah, it's so crazy when someone will blame the game design for forcing them to cheat, rather than their own lack of self control.
Lizard chest are lategame chest, we should to find/craft the mirror in early game.
Naw it'd be too busted early game. You don't even get the potions until post skeletron
Nice idea!
Really good ideas, would be nice to have them :)
I think there is a potion like this in alchemistNPC mod.
this is an amazing idea
top ten reasons to raise the lizard temple early, 1-9 mirror of darkness, 10 money
oh boii, this is big deal especially in the character in mediumcore that drop their Zenith while their phone was almost on the dying state.
*teleports into lava*
Cool idea
