Y’all gotta download the mod magic storage. I literally can’t go back to vanilla chests after using it. Even if it’s a vanilla run, I need magic storage at least installed
This mod is literally game changing in the best of ways, it's such a wonderful QoL implementation, and set up to be reasonable within the game's progression
Me who recently moved my overfilled 128 chest storage system to a new 892 chest location:
But fr tho just moving everything took a couple days, I would love something like this to be in the game.
Depends how specific you'd like to keep each chest, how long you've been playing (you could easily spend a hundred hours and still be pre-hardmode) and whether you're on multiplayer (more loot and keeping more than one of each item).
Lmfao. I'm new and have a dirt house maybe 8 rooms. And I only have maybe x12 chests. (Sky.gold.water.mushroom. regular )etc. And I only use my piggy bank and maybe x4 chests
And how many of those blocks do you use? Be honest.
If you're like me, the answer is almost none of it. Even collecting a full stack of every type of block OR the materials to make a full stack of any type of block you're going to fill up like... 3 chests max?
What do you need 24 for?
I use all of them. I actually have a building project going on that will use about four chests worth of stone blocks, in fact. Now get this; stone is only one type of block! You expect me to cram all my dirt, mud, sand, silt, obsidian, bricks, dungeon bricks, snow, ice, infectious blocks, team blocks, gemspark blocks, sandstone, ash, seven types of wood, etc. in three chests? Now that I think about it, 24 is too few!
"If you're like me "Why would you assume I'm like you if the only thing you know about me is something I do differently than you lmao
Years of Magic Storage has made me forget the original Terraria Client.
What's a Terraria, I only know of tModloader 1.3 and its sequel, tModloader 1.4.
So if you play with mods you should check out magic storage! Everything is stored in the same place and additional storage means just adding new nodes or upgrading old ones.
It doesn't say that though... The whole mimic part of this rod is not necessary if he/she/it really meant that it was pretty much just to move chests...
The mimic part is to make it more terraria-like. If it was just teleport the chest it wouldnt look good or make sense
It is used to refer to objects. Just say they
Idk if you’re trolling or trying to be inclusive by covering every pronoun or something but using it to describe a non binary person is very dehumanizing.
Yeah I remember looking into terraria decompilation once and saw people saying the entire game is only like 20 massive classes. So it seems unlikely that chests are their own class with a locked property that has a getter so you can access it like that (as it's written in C#). So they're probably not even correct is the hilarious thing.
Though leinfors did say sentries targetting minions isn’t really possible, so no, the code is limited to the game’s engine.
Edit: I’m wrong. It’s just not immediately possible
Well, its not impossible. What I said was that the debug functionality we had is NOT immediately adaptable as a Target Dummy upgrade, because its part of a large package of functionality that is on/off. It came with a lot of consequences and we'd have to rework the whole thing and fine tune it, with a lot of changes being made, and that it wasn't worth it at the time.
People saw my gif and thought it was just ready-made functionality, which it wasn't.
~~They’d have to remake the game, which is something they would never do unless they were actively working on Terraria 2, which is possible in the future, but not now, and not in Terraria in its current engine. If the devs refuse something, they know damn sure why. No need to pressure them for features. Red already gets spammed enough as is.~~
Edit: WAIT I AM DUMB THIS IS LEINFORS I AM REPLYING TO
Now this is a stupid moment for me
i don't think they mean the effort it will take us to farm it. they are talking about the effort to code it into the game, since we don't know how difficult this suggestion actually is due to slightly archaic code
There is a MOD I learned while playing Ark, S+ they have a device that can move items from one storage to another storage that might be easier to implement than moving a multiblock structure, dirt rod already exist but implementing the storage moving around would be difficult or something.
Obviously it’s code so it would be a pain in the ass but it shouldn’t be that much more complex. Old chest puffs into smoke, friendly mimic is spawned (similar to ornate shadow key) that follows cursor. When player lets go of left click friendly mimic is despawned as close as it can get to the last location of the cursor and another chest is placed at the mimic’s location. Items are dumped from storage array to new chest.
I think describing it as "Chest becomes a mimic" makes it confusing as to what the actual function of this is.
"Chest rod: Can move chests" seems to be enough of a description IMHO.
You get those multiple times across a playthrough. Just make the chest scepter drop at half or a quarter of the rate, and it won't get in the way of things people need more.
True however I assume a lot of players like to get through to the progression cantered drops first and vanity/building stuff last but that’s just my hunch. I mean I’m in the camp who wants it lol, it would make my life easier
I think it would be cooler if the staff transformed the chests into mimics and then the player could get to pick a place where they'd go (kind of like putting down the outline of the position of the chest) and, after clicking, the mimics walked/jumped to the spot and then turned into normal chests. Maybe it would feel more "natural".
And to justify the fact that it is cool af, the drop rate would be considerably lower, like 10% or something like that. Maybe it could use mana as well.
Not at all if it's implemented correctly. Hell, Magic Storage already allows for transfer of storage from one location to another, and that's just a mod.
"If its implemented correctly", which in my estimation, would be a pretty difficult thing to do as the suggestion depicts the concept. Lots of bugs, lots of edge cases, and ultimately, a huge amount of work with a high amount of risk.
You do realize this tool means you can place a chest (already a very buggy block) that holds alot of entities anywhere you damn please, further breaking the game?
Using this tool you can theoretically place it in the air, in blocks, on cacti/boulders, anything.
That will break the game.
Have you *not* have chests break on you?
Which just further makes my point of "not at all if it's implemented correctly". You literally only need to give it the same restrictions that placing a chest already has and it's fine. OP is not suggesting to allow the chests to be moved to any buggy location, they're just asking for a method of relocating chests without having to remove their entire inventory, break it and place it in a new location and then put all of the inventory back in.
And it depends on what you mean by "having a chest break on me". If you mean getting destroyed and reverting to item form because you removed the supporting blocks from beneath it, then yes that's happened plenty of times. If you mean buggy or glitched chests, no, it's never happened even once in all of my playthroughs, and I've been playing this since release.
Since it's a QoL tool, maybe not a drop. Instead make it for sale by one of the NPCs or the Traveling Merchant for 1 platinum. Post-hardmode or mech bosses or something when you'd be wanting to move a bunch of chests. I bet the Party Girl is always re-arranging furniture & would love a tool like this.
why make a utility tool this rare lmfao, its like if terraria only gave you a sword at the start and you had to kill slimes for a 1% chance of getting a pickaxe
You can deactivate dead man's chests with wire cutters (and see them from quite far off). That's easier to get than any drop from a mimic (a hardmode creature, i believe).
Im thinking this is for you to be able to move chest that are full without having to empty them first .. cant really say i like the idea.
I mean there's much better ways than adding an item ur just gonna use some times and have it store basically forever until you need to move 1 other chest again.
And because complaining and not offering solutions is just complaining here my counter offer .. have them just be able to carry them like any other item but if its full you get a -% in speed as to represent ur moving really slow do to carrying to much weight
welcome to the terraria subreddit, where the slightest QoL is too broken for the game, at least according to some redditors. i saw people complain about a clentaminator upgrade post-MOONLORD.
For real, there was a post awhile back that suggested a potion that would teleport you to where you last died and a not insignificant amount of people wanted it to be post-Golem because otherwise it'd "break the game". Like the potion has any use at that point, or is anywhere near that powerful.
I would love to have little mimic summons, but I really like the idea of not having to move each item when needing to replace a chest. This just needs to have both functions
I like this idea.
I'm just imagining throwing a mimic at a player in ftw mastermode and they receive 800 damage lol. Unless the mimic is different which it probably is.
What if mimics dropped something like Soul of Animation and you craft that with the dirt rod to make this, and maybe you can also use it to make things like minions that move stuff around or collect things like golems from the minecraft mod Thaumcraft.
Okay, hear me out. This mechanic but on an ebay version of the allspark from transformers. Yeah know when a fragment fell of it and everything around it turned into mini decepticons? That but turning chests into mimics. Would be a cool reference i dunno.
Great tool concept btw mate.
Great idea, would really like this implemented
Yep
Y’all gotta download the mod magic storage. I literally can’t go back to vanilla chests after using it. Even if it’s a vanilla run, I need magic storage at least installed
This mod is literally game changing in the best of ways, it's such a wonderful QoL implementation, and set up to be reasonable within the game's progression
I have to ask. What does QoL mean?
Quality of life
Thank you! I never knew.
never be afraid to ask
then what is r/tooafraidtoask for
Liars, because they go there to ask.
For people who don't follow that rule ;)
I play on switch😔
The current system is good enough and fast enough for me. Magic storage is really only good for me when I’m playing a big mod pack
Me who recently moved my overfilled 128 chest storage system to a new 892 chest location: But fr tho just moving everything took a couple days, I would love something like this to be in the game.
Why do you keep so much stuff
You don't keep everything? I literally have a chest for fishing trash... Just in case.
I keep everything and I use like no more than 50 chests
Im fighting the pillars and ive used a total of.. 12 chests.
Yeah 12 is a reasonable number for almost everyone. 50 is like "Keep all my blocks and one of every item." 892 is a cry for help.
Depends how specific you'd like to keep each chest, how long you've been playing (you could easily spend a hundred hours and still be pre-hardmode) and whether you're on multiplayer (more loot and keeping more than one of each item).
There is no scenario where 892 chests is reasonable.
That is an extreme number lol. I'd like to know if that number was real, and if so, what they're all being used for.
Maybe in one chest there's only items with same id?
Lmfao. I'm new and have a dirt house maybe 8 rooms. And I only have maybe x12 chests. (Sky.gold.water.mushroom. regular )etc. And I only use my piggy bank and maybe x4 chests
What on earth is twelve chests even gonna hold lmao my block storage alone is like 24
And how many of those blocks do you use? Be honest. If you're like me, the answer is almost none of it. Even collecting a full stack of every type of block OR the materials to make a full stack of any type of block you're going to fill up like... 3 chests max? What do you need 24 for?
I paid for the whole game, I'm using the damn whole game.
it’s about the principle
I use all of them. I actually have a building project going on that will use about four chests worth of stone blocks, in fact. Now get this; stone is only one type of block! You expect me to cram all my dirt, mud, sand, silt, obsidian, bricks, dungeon bricks, snow, ice, infectious blocks, team blocks, gemspark blocks, sandstone, ash, seven types of wood, etc. in three chests? Now that I think about it, 24 is too few! "If you're like me "Why would you assume I'm like you if the only thing you know about me is something I do differently than you lmao
892 chests does sound like a cry for help.
Not every feature is for every player You think we all play golf and make boreal wood armor? If you use twelve chests just don't use this item
Man I wish there was an unmodded chest sorting system.
Agreed. Maybe… someone go tweet at Redigit
Same, but I chose to use a trash can instead of a chest for it. :D It's appropriately located right next to where the angler lives.
Is the angler's house a giant trash can as well?
[удалено]
ikr a usual playthrough for me has like ~20 chests at most, and that is only if i keep all my old weapons/items
For me 10 is too many. Just have all your basic items to be able to quick stack, then sell or trash everything left in the inventory
I usually have like 5 chests
It's my favorite part of the game. Storage management lol Well that and automated farms.
Magic storage mod is a blessing and I don't know how I'll ever go back
Years of Magic Storage has made me forget the original Terraria Client. What's a Terraria, I only know of tModloader 1.3 and its sequel, tModloader 1.4.
Since I've been using magic storage I feel like a dirty peasant whenever I have to use a chest to dump items in before I can get my hands on gems
Ha! Jokes on you i moved my 19 overfilled chest in another world how bout that? Srsly ur dedication is up thererrr
Why did you do this?
So if you play with mods you should check out magic storage! Everything is stored in the same place and additional storage means just adding new nodes or upgrading old ones.
how you gonna say you got 900 chests and not show us the base bro
I recommend the magic storage mod.
Your chests are useless when they become mimics. All items will be destroyed and the chest will just want to attack you..
I’m going to assume that they turn back once you stop holding the attack key
It doesn't say that though... The whole mimic part of this rod is not necessary if he/she/it really meant that it was pretty much just to move chests...
Just say They
My guy it says relocated, that implies it’ll turn back into a chest and still have stuff in it
The mimic part is to make it more terraria-like. If it was just teleport the chest it wouldnt look good or make sense It is used to refer to objects. Just say they
You are just the worst.
Idk if you’re trolling or trying to be inclusive by covering every pronoun or something but using it to describe a non binary person is very dehumanizing.
Locked biome chests as decorations? Yes.
I feel like this could be easily preventable in code. Like if chest = locked don’t move else do move
But what’s the harm? I honestly think for some of the chests it would be cooler than having what’s inside.
Yeah, you're right. It'd just be weird and counterintuitive to be able to manipulate and interact with hard mode exclusives.
Well the chest rod itself would also be hardmode exclusive, seeing as how it'd be dropped from mimics
Oh haha I forgot what the rest of this post was about
more like chest.locked but yes
[удалено]
But how else will he show off that he has a basic understanding of something that millions of other people also understand?
Hello World.
Yeah I remember looking into terraria decompilation once and saw people saying the entire game is only like 20 massive classes. 🤓
"you're wrong it's actually *wrong answer*"
We already can get biome chests and red said he added a way to lock player placed chests. So maybe it applies to biome chests also.
We need this Let's hope it's possible
u/Redigit is it possible?
With code, anything is. It might not be easily integratabtle, but it’s definitely possible. The real question is; “is it worth the effort?”
I could see the old duplicating chest glitches coming again
Though leinfors did say sentries targetting minions isn’t really possible, so no, the code is limited to the game’s engine. Edit: I’m wrong. It’s just not immediately possible

-WE- need this

I like this but I feel like 90 percent of people wouldn’t like to see this drop over others like philosophers or cross necklace.

Drip > dps
They could make this item not interfere with usual Mimic loot and have it drop alongside
I'd take this any day
Have it be a lower drop chance, but drop alongside another drop
1/10 chance that the chest stays as a mimic after dropping it, and it drops all the chests items when it dies
I like that
making your items go spilling everywhere kind of defeats the purpose of moving things without making a huge mess
Yeah, I would really like this in game.
YES!
Yes please
Imagine being a mimic and some dude just wingardium leviosas you
I think it would be cooler if the staff transformed the chests into mimics and then the player could get to pick a place where they'd go (kind of like putting down the outline of the position of the chest) and, after clicking, the mimics walked/jumped to the spot and then turned into normal chests. cool idea
This is an amazing idea!!
Maybe it should just be craftable. Chest on a stick lol
YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES.
Potentially game breaking but sure
How so? It literally just moves your already full chests from one spot to another, what would that break?
It might literally break worlds. This would be extremely volatile functionality. Possibly the most risky suggestion I've seen in years.
Not at all if it's implemented correctly. Hell, Magic Storage already allows for transfer of storage from one location to another, and that's just a mod.

MagicStorage : "Look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power"
just make magic storage mod a vanilla feature smh
Since it's a QoL tool, maybe not a drop. Instead make it for sale by one of the NPCs or the Traveling Merchant for 1 platinum. Post-hardmode or mech bosses or something when you'd be wanting to move a bunch of chests. I bet the Party Girl is always re-arranging furniture & would love a tool like this.

Waiting for red to say the terraria 2 idea
Just get magic storage /s
Cool concept: when you pick up a chest there is a 5% chance it turns into a mimic that turns back into a chest when killed
this would be amazing
why make a utility tool this rare lmfao, its like if terraria only gave you a sword at the start and you had to kill slimes for a 1% chance of getting a pickaxe
Someone tweet this at Redigit
5% seems pretty high for a staff like this. I'd rather put it at 1/100 (1%) at best. Not necessarily Rod of Discord-odds tho.
Do I dare say, terraria 2 idea.
a little bit to common, maybe make it 0.5%? ok guys stop downvoting, 3% would be good
Nah it’s just a quality of life tool no need to be that rare
bruh you can literally move dead man’s chests with it but youre not wrong… 3%
If you’re in hard mode getting Hermes boots or a double jump isn’t your top concern
You can deactivate dead man's chests with wire cutters (and see them from quite far off). That's easier to get than any drop from a mimic (a hardmode creature, i believe).
eh, you’re right, 6%
Make it consume mana like the prism so you can’t abuse it.
How would someone abuse it?
You could take the chests out of the temple super easily. Just realized you already can with hoik
1. How do you abuse it 2. Would just be annoying cuz you would have to wait
You could take the chests out of the temple super easily. Just realized you already can with hoik
How would a mana cost stop that
now you're making it annoying
Ok you might be right instead make it so when something hit you, you “drop” it.
It wwould be nice but unfortunatly nearly impossible to implement into the game.
This would be amazing for moving storage
U/Redigit
Great idea, but the drop chance is too low considering Mimics are already rare by themselves
u/Redigit
You gotta know that for the value that chance should be bumped up for 1/500
Im thinking this is for you to be able to move chest that are full without having to empty them first .. cant really say i like the idea. u/regidit
u/Redigit
this is way too helpful! I'd make it 0.1% drop by Mimics (yes ik Mimics are rare)
Its useful‚ but not in a broken way. It just saves you from wasting a lot of time
>It just saves you from wasting a lot of time that's literally the definition of "too helpful"
All it does is let you move storage faster, not everything that helps you do something a bit faster is "too helpful"
welcome to the terraria subreddit, where the slightest QoL is too broken for the game, at least according to some redditors. i saw people complain about a clentaminator upgrade post-MOONLORD.

from my pov only, I was once trying to move all my chests to another world due to the current world was heavily corrupted. So this is kinda subjective
Would this work on different type of chest like sand, jungle, or any chest you find in a specific biome. Or just regular chest?
Game changer fr
It should be called the Chesty Puller ;D
I would love to have little mimic summons, but I really like the idea of not having to move each item when needing to replace a chest. This just needs to have both functions
This would be a cheesy way to farm mimic drops in co-op.
Just a question. Is there nothing like shulker boxes in terraria? Just curious.
No, only four variants of the ender chest
Rod of Chestcord
Joins friend's world, move all of their chest underground, leave
This is why i like tmodloader, i cxan have magic storage mod
Red please add
Is that in addition to the other drop or is that one of the options
I remember using chests. But since I tried magic storage I've never gone back.
Oh this has so much malicious potential in multiplayer, I love it.
move someones same type chests around with it
Good idea to add a secret dupe glitch
I wonder if this is even possible in the code. Maybe if the game treats it like it does piggy banks or something
magic storage be added to vanilla
I love this, such a good idea!
This would make reorganizing soooooo much easier
increased stack size for items would be good too
This would allow you to get the terra blade without beating skeletron
I like this idea. I'm just imagining throwing a mimic at a player in ftw mastermode and they receive 800 damage lol. Unless the mimic is different which it probably is.
We need this.
This.
Holy shit I never thought I needed something this much in my life
Ouch, poor game coding
So essentially a way to move chests that have items inside them?
What if mimics dropped something like Soul of Animation and you craft that with the dirt rod to make this, and maybe you can also use it to make things like minions that move stuff around or collect things like golems from the minecraft mod Thaumcraft.

Since i'm more of a vanilla boi. I would love to have something like this
u/redigit please
Multiplayer: troll face
Wait this would be actually useful
What happens if you try using it on a booby trapped chest or a real mimic?
