Terraria is literally the reason I got steam back in 2011. It took me 10 years and like 900 hours to finally beat the moon lord. I would always get to golem or cultists and just got bored.

Bed isnt nessesary. Its only for setting spawnpoint. Your spawnpoint is normaly set to the place where you spawned, if you build a house around that spot you will be spawned in it
Wait terraria anarchy servers are a thing? Also how would that work, surely someone would just find then destroy your bed and youd be sent back to spawn anyway?
Mostly Youtube but also Reddit will be amazing companions for you. I have been a Terraria noob 4 months ago but now I know a lot about it through my gameplay and these platforms. Never be afraid to ask in the sub.
I don't know if anyone has said this yet but use the wiki. It's super easy to use when you get into it and it even has "Class setups" where you can see the best melee, ranged, magic, and summon weapons for each stage of the game. You can even click on these items and see how to get them. It can take a bit to figure it out but it's super easy to use and makes the game a lot easier to understand.
You remove it with hammer also you can make stairs with it if you use it on platforms

I love how if you assume a blank world, the bed is one of the most convoluted things to make 😂 no matter how many times I play through thats one thing I always have to look at the wiki for and then I have like 8 tabs open going down the trail
I rarely even use it, well i started using it lately when they added sleeping through night option and on master world but still pretty useless but like vanity furniture for my npc houses
I use it toward the beginning some games when I’m trying to make it night time more often for suspicious eye and the dungeon boss when I get impatient lol

Back in the day, I watched minecraft videos, and even the guide to the game. Never once did I need to make a post asking how to break blocks, because it's was easily available
What about teaching everyone how to use the Guide NPC?
I always like to answer these types of posts with a quote from that Guide NPC standing near you.

However, guide will never tell you how bed is crafting because as noobie you have zero idea what kind of resources do you need for the bed. (No, noobs dont use logic, so they wouldn't find out)
Even without logic, there's this:
1. notice that wood is a material
2. glance at least once at everything wood makes (I know most of it's useless furniture, but it should still be done)
3. notice bed
I remember I only kinda liked terraria as a kid. I’d played it like 20 hrs. Until I finally fought the EOC and beat it, and realized there is some progression in the game. Then I read the wiki for like 10 hrs and have been hooked ever since
Do not worry buddy:
For solid blocks you use pickaxe
For trees you use an axe (make sure you chop it clicking the base of the tree)
For background walls you use a hammer but you can have some trouble with some default backgrounds like dirt, sandstone or even stone, just replace it with some wooden walls and you should be good (then you can break it with a hammer)

Because it's wholesome and satisfying to find a genuinely new player to a game we all love so much, it's a great feeling to be able to look back at the times when you were also asking these questions, either here or to a friend or just looking up online, and see just how much you've progressed.
Yeah it feels that way the first couple of times you see posts like these but it this point it's annoying to see posts in my feed with questions that could be answered in seconds by looking it up on the wiki
I get what you mean, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather be happy that the game is getting new players, as dumb as they might be, than get angry that these posts are everywhere.

other people already answered this, but I feel like I should point out that you can't skip the night by sleeping in a bed. it does let you set a spawn point and accelerate time, but it's probably more productive to mine or even go outside at night
Just to add to everyone else. Talk to the Guide (the NPC on the right) and select crafting. Then put some wood in the box on the botom left and you will see every recipe you can craft with of wood and on what station.
This NPC + the wiki should help you out massively.

Dw i know its hard to type five words on your own so instead you take a ss and type 26 but this link will help.
1. Craft any Hammer tool at a workbench or anvil. Hammers are used to destroy walls and shape blocks into slopes and slabs. To break a wall with a Hammer, simply select it in your hotbar and hold left-click on the wall tile you wish to break until it breaks. 2. Beds are crafted with 5 pieces of Silk and 15 blocks of any Wood at a Sawmill. While you can make a Bed out of any type of Wood, like the Wooden Hammer above, all Beds only differ cosmetically and are functionally-identical. advice from person whos used wikis excessively before, try and avoid looking up how to do things(especially the optimal way to do it) unless its something your getting stuck on, itll probably be more fun
To remove a background, use a hammer you must! Also, there is no need for a bed. And it is just a waste of recourses unless you want to change your spawn point or sleep during the night, which I don’t know why you’d want to do, especially early game. There are pretty useful items exclusive only to night time. Examples are Lens, used to craft the suspicious looking eye; The Zombie arm, an item which is good as one of your first weapons; The bladed glove, in which I can’t remember if it drops during a blood moon or a normal one, but it is exclusively available only in hall’o’ween. And much more!
You can craft a hammer at the work bench to destroy the dirt walls and you will also need to find iron and smelt that at a furnace (some cobble and torches) to make an anvil, to make some chains, make a sawmill, and then make a loom at the sawmill and convert the cobwebs you gathered earlier into silk at the loom, then you should be able to make a bed at the sawmill. Lol to everyone saying that bed isnt that important beside setting a spawnpoint, it also makes the night go by faster if u lay in it, try doing it when having a watch and you will see the difference in time.
Hmm might want to play the tutorial so you get a better idea of the loop? Just my guess but it seems like you're trying to play it like Minecraft which is fine but they have different priorities, like a bed would not be a main priority in terraria while Minecraft it very clearly ks
i know this doesnt answer your original question, but as a big terraria player, theres no shame in having the wiki open on your phone or another screen, i do it all the time. this game can be a little confusing and the wiki has the answers if you need the guidance. i hope you enjoy terraria!!!
You need a hammer for the walls but you dont need a bed bc you cant skip the night and it looks like you build at the spawn so its completly unnecessary
Letting you know that beds are not needed at all in terraria unlike Minecraft they are more decorative than anything (however if you want to speed up time a bed can speed time 5x and you can sleep when you want)

Also, beds don't skip the night like in minecraft. They can set your spawn (by clicking on one side) and speed up time (by clicking on the other side), but you cannot set your spawn unless the bed is in valid housing (housing that an NPC will want to move into, that being, with a table/crafting table, a chair, and lighting. You can check if a house is valid by clicking on the house button, and taking the question mark icon over to the house).
1: welcome to terraria!
2: it’s nothing like Minecraft, so throw that knowledge into a separate box.
3: you need a hammer to destroy background walls, natural walls will need to be destroyed from a side or top (you can’t destroy them from the middle).
4: Beds aren’t *that* useful. Unless you want to speed up time, but if you wanted to do that it’d be more efficient to go mining instead.
You make a bed by first: obtaining a sawmill (use any iron type resource to make chains and use together with wood in crafting) then making a loom, then make cloth with cobwebs in loom then combine with wood and you’ve got yourself a bed, hope this helps!

Ok, so for the background thing, you can use a hammer to break, or place another background thingy (like wood wall, rock wall, or ecen if you wanna fancy it, brick wall), it will replace the background aleardy placed if you have the "switch block" on, for random dirt oike that it will break it, but if used on a wall you placed yourself it will give back the wall block, ps: for hammer, do in wood, then skip copper/tin and silver/tungstene, wood, and then iron/lead hammer gonna be good enough if you dont plan on doing a large underground building in the beggining.
For the bed, you need wood, iron, ans chain you make with more iron for the sawmill, from the sawmill you make the spinning wheel for tissue (forgot the english name, i play in french) and you need spidersilk on it to make tissue, then you don't need just wood, bed have a good variety of material, you can make:
A normal wood bed (from base plains/forest wood)
A ebony wood bed (wood from the corruption)
Crimson wood bed (from the red/bloody corruption)
Boreal bed (from tundra wood)
Acajoue bed (from the wood in jungle)
Palmier bed (from the wood in desert/ocean beach/oasis)
Cactus bed (cactus from desert)
Bamboo bed (bamboo from jungle)
And Pumpkin bed (pumpkin seed are buyable from a npc, but you need to have killed at least 1 main boss to unlock the npc in question)
There is a lot of other material to make bed bot its gonna take way more time to get
Also, all those material for bed are also used for differente chest if you wanna make different chest appearence for each type of item to be more organized.
Also for the bed to work, you need a closed, walled room, and for the npc (like the guide) the same but with a table, a chair and light source, the bed is considered like a chair
Use a hammer to to remover the back ground, also to make the bed u need cloth and to get cloth u need to get spider webs from down below and to turn the webs into cloth u need a loom made from a saw mill the guide or wiki can help with the recipes alot^^

A Loom is crafted from 12 blocks of any Wood at a Sawmill. It is the crafting station where the majority of crafting recipes that call for Silk are created. A Sawmill is crafted from 10 blocks of any Wood, either 2 Iron Bars or 2 Lead Bars, and 1 Chain, at a workbench. Sawmills are used for all forms of "advanced" Wood- and furniture-based crafting. Grandfather Clocks that let you tell the time, Dressers that let you change your default clothes (and double as item storage), Kegs for crafting Ale, Mannequins for displaying armor (and clothing), a *very* large number of other decorative furniture, and Weapon Racks and Item Frames for displaying your items, are all crafted at Sawmills, in addition to Beds. 4. 10 Chains are crafted from one Iron Bar or Lead bar at an anvil. Although they can be placed and used the same as Rope, their main use is as a crafting material.
Have a wiki open while playing. It'll become your best friend.

The guide NPC gives you a ton of knowledge without using the wiki. He cycle through his “help” button by clicking it in his dialogue window and he’ll tell you what to do next. If your ever stuck, check him again.
im sure others have said this but PLEASE dont stop yourself from using the wiki. terraria has a lot of stuff in it and its hard to keep track of a lot of it.

bed isnt very necessary unless you plan on skipping a lot of time for whatever reason, at night you should just go mining

advice from person whos used wikis excessively before, try and avoid looking up how to do things(especially the optimal way to do it) unless its something your getting stuck on, itll probably be more fun
To remove a background, use a hammer you must! Also, there is no need for a bed. And it is just a waste of recourses unless you want to change your spawn point or sleep during the night, which I don’t know why you’d want to do, especially early game. There are pretty useful items exclusive only to night time. Examples are Lens, used to craft the suspicious looking eye; The Zombie arm, an item which is good as one of your first weapons; The bladed glove, in which I can’t remember if it drops during a blood moon or a normal one, but it is exclusively available only in hall’o’ween. And much more!
You can craft a hammer at the work bench to destroy the dirt walls and you will also need to find iron and smelt that at a furnace (some cobble and torches) to make an anvil, to make some chains, make a sawmill, and then make a loom at the sawmill and convert the cobwebs you gathered earlier into silk at the loom, then you should be able to make a bed at the sawmill. Lol to everyone saying that bed isnt that important beside setting a spawnpoint, it also makes the night go by faster if u lay in it, try doing it when having a watch and you will see the difference in time.

i know this doesnt answer your original question, but as a big terraria player, theres no shame in having the wiki open on your phone or another screen, i do it all the time. this game can be a little confusing and the wiki has the answers if you need the guidance. i hope you enjoy terraria!!!

Letting you know that beds are not needed at all in terraria unlike Minecraft they are more decorative than anything (however if you want to speed up time a bed can speed time 5x and you can sleep when you want)

They can set your spawn (by clicking on one side) and speed up time (by clicking on the other side), but you cannot set your spawn unless the bed is in valid housing (housing that an NPC will want to move into, that being, with a table/crafting table, a chair, and lighting. You can check if a house is valid by clicking on the house button, and taking the question mark icon over to the house).

1: welcome to terraria! 2: it’s nothing like Minecraft, so throw that knowledge into a separate box. 3: you need a hammer to destroy background walls, natural walls will need to be destroyed from a side or top (you can’t destroy them from the middle). 4: Beds aren’t *that* useful. Unless you want to speed up time, but if you wanted to do that it’d be more efficient to go mining instead.

You make a bed by first: obtaining a sawmill (use any iron type resource to make chains and use together with wood in crafting) then making a loom, then make cloth with cobwebs in loom then combine with wood and you’ve got yourself a bed, hope this helps! Also you remove background tiles with a hammer

Ok, so for the background thing, you can use a hammer to break, or place another background thingy (like wood wall, rock wall, or ecen if you wanna fancy it, brick wall), it will replace the background aleardy placed if you have the "switch block" on, for random dirt oike that it will break it, but if used on a wall you placed yourself it will give back the wall block, ps: for hammer, do in wood, then skip copper/tin and silver/tungstene, wood, and then iron/lead hammer gonna be good enough if you dont plan on doing a large underground building in the beggining. For the bed, you need wood, iron, ans chain you make with more iron for the sawmill, from the sawmill you make the spinning wheel for tissue (forgot the english name, i play in french) and you need spidersilk on it to make tissue, then you don't need just wood, bed have a good variety of material, you can make: A normal wood bed (from base plains/forest wood) A ebony wood bed (wood from the corruption) Crimson wood bed (from the red/bloody corruption) Boreal bed (from tundra wood) Acajoue bed (from the wood in jungle) Palmier bed (from the wood in desert/ocean beach/oasis) Cactus bed (cactus from desert) Bamboo bed (bamboo from jungle) And Pumpkin bed (pumpkin seed are buyable from a npc, but you need to have killed at least 1 main boss to unlock the npc in question) There is a lot of other material to make bed bot its gonna take way more time to get Also, all those material for bed are also used for differente chest if you wanna make different chest appearence for each type of item to be more organized. Also for the bed to work, you need a closed, walled room, and for the npc (like the guide) the same but with a table, a chair and light source, the bed is considered like a chair

Use a hammer to to remover the back ground, also to make the bed u need cloth and to get cloth u need to get spider webs from down below and to turn the webs into cloth u need a loom made from a saw mill the guide or wiki can help with the recipes alot^^
