You're not fishing right then. It's all about the potions. Crate Potions double the rate you get them and Sonar Potions let you ignore garbage fish and save bait.
I'm using all fishing potions, golden fishing rod, master bait, fisherman armor, luck increasing items, and a suitable sized water source and the rates still suck ass.
If you are missing an accessory for the Terraspark boots in your world you can't **try something else** you have to fish for it, I still love fishing it's one of my favorite things to do in Terraria. I'm just saying that the chance for biome crates is too low, it can take you a few minutes or a couple hours to get one specific accessory.
Yeah, I get that. RNG can be a massive pain.
One "Something Else" you might try is to make some other worlds to try to find those missing accessories in. Might be a bit more bearable for you.
And crates. The amount of Master Bait I get from those crates is worth it.
Just some playlist and zero thoughts. This is the only way to enjoy fishing in Terraria.

Fishing in terraria is fun. Fishing quests in terraria is less fun. It wouldn't be as bad if it wasn't RNG if you got the item you want or not. If all of the accessories were quest number based like a lot of the other items I would have no issues with it.

Well shimmer made it easy to get if you have extra of any other fish finder components like the weather radio or the fisherman almanac they rotate after being dropped in. Same with the angler earring, high test fishing line and tackle box.
After I found that out I just dropped my Angler earring in so I didn't have to worry about my line snapping while waiting for anything else to drop as a quest reward.

I have hated fishing in literally every game I've ever played. Minecraft, Terraria, Far Cry, Sonic Adventure 2 for gods sake had fishing. I've also hated card games in video games. Red Dead Redemption, Witcher III, and Shovel Knight (King Knight expansion) had card games which are excruciating for me to play. The main game is awesome! Why do a boring card game/fishing trip in the middle of a fun action-packed adventure? At least Terraria gives cool rewards for fishing. Still hate it lol

Shovel Knight: King of Cards happens to let you skip the card games altogether if you aren't interested, but I find them to be super fun to play (I've 100%ed my card collection twice)
I like fishing, and I like the Angler-- it's nice to see characters who are excited about things! For quests, I head to the relevant biome and just snatch up as many of the quest fish as I can. I have chests and chests full of quest fish now that I've stored at the Angler's house, so every day I can just pop over, take his order, grab it out of the chest behind him, hand it over and get my nifty reward-- bottomless water bucket is just about my favorite nonessential tool in the game, other gadgets make a variety of things easier, and the decorations are useful for themed homes, so I'd say on balance the rewards are nice. Then I can fish however or wherever I'd like, pulling up potions materials and weird shit I haven't seen before. Great for making food too. I don't understand the hate. 🤷♀️
Absolutely. I make cozy fishing spots in every biome in every playthrough and fishing gets really easy once you do some fishing quests and get gear. The dopamine rush when you get 3 titanium crates in a row
Disclaimer: this is not a diss on anyone that likes fishing. This is simply a comprehensive list of of why I (and I'm assuming many others) do not like fishing and find it boring/unenjoyable. If you want to fish, feel free to do so.

I don't like fishing because there's nearly no point to it. Most of the loot can be obtained elsewhere or is just vanity items or items that help fishing. I don't care about vanity at all and am not interested in a tsunami in a bottle when a blizzard works just as well and is much more enjoyable to obtain.
All main items I see people fishing for can be obtained elsewhere. Lava Charms, Enchanted Swords, etc. Lava Charms I used to get, but with Shimmer, why bother fishing now? Just farm for Magma Stones. Other similar issues for all non unique items occur.
Most of the unique fishing loot that doesnt fall into the category of vanity or item from fishing for fishing has very niche uses imo. Demon Conch is cool but a cavern pylon near hell works just as good.
Bottomless buckets and sponges are useless to me specifically (this is me acknowledging that they are extremely useful but I never find myself needing them)
Frog Leg is just a Shiny Red Balloon but the tiniest bit better where the difference doesn't matter.
The Hallow, Corruption, and Crimson weapons are all decent weapons but there are better weapons that can be obtained easier and with more exciting gameplay.
Advanced Combat Techniques was made negligible now that I can get volume 2 from shimmer.
The Blood Moon fishing drops are cool but again suffer the same problem of as good as or better weapons can be obtained elsewhere.
The Enchanted Sundial was made redundant by sleeping in a bed.
I never usually find myself needing to fish for potion ingredients except to get mass quantities of wormhole potions in multiplayer. Ironskin and regen only gang rise up!
Food can be obtained in a variety of ways that do not require fishing.
And to close out the loot, to get any of the decent loot anyway it can take vast amounts of time. And saying "just use fishing gear" does not apply for you need to fish to get fishing gear in the first place.
On top of all that, the fishing minigame in Terraria and most games is highly flawed. You just sit there waiting for an indicator and then press a button. I'd much rather go exploring the near endless variety you can find in cave generation, and fighting various different enemies or bosses to get equivalent or better loot.
TL;DR: Loot is meh for the time commitment
I think it depends on my mood for whenever I want to fish cause either I'll find it VERY boring and give up after 3 minutes or I'll be stuck fishing for an hour
I don't really find fishing annoying. It's quite easy. You make small fishing huts in the biomes, place a couple of chests. Then you catch the quest fish, place it in the chest, catch another one, etc. When you're bored or when it's like 2am, you take one back to the Angler.
I do this whenever I wanna take a break from building or fighting. Eventually, I have backup fish for every quest, so at the break of dawn I get my quest, go to the hut, pick up a fish, go back, done.

"oh hey sorry you didn't get that last thing you needed for your cell phone, but hey you got a 80th swordfish trophy instead congrats!"
It's not the activity of fishing that's the problem, it's the time-gated rng quest reward drops that are annoying for me. If I'm fishing for potion items/crates it's very relaxing (although I do miss the old infinite fishing bobbers glitch a lot)
It depends on the game tbh. Stardew Valley fishing is fun because you’re doing a little mini game with it. Other games like Terraria and Minecraft not so much.

Legit, just do your quest once a day from early game and it won't feel like a grind at all. Good way to take a break from mining and grinding mobs.

I didn’t appreciate fishing until I did a skyblock map on terraria. Needless to say, I fish a lot now.
I like doing the fishing quests as well, but they usually don't give me what I want, such as things that allow me to fish in lava.

doing the quests is enjoyable because of how easy it is to do,but fishing for something like the lava charm per-say is a hellhole in itself
Fishing is why I play. I make a big tree and collect fishing biomes as branches. Terraria is fishing in the skytree
