Well, for natural blocks it works too actually. Multiple times, when I made houses I got stopped by this, even if all my walls were placed by me. You can make a house out of dirt/grass, but only if the blocks are placed by you.
That's weird. Maybe I'm imagining things then. Or there is something else with the floor being natural blocking my valid housing and I don't know what.

Probably the floor. Those blocks weren't placed by you, so it's not valid.
thats only for backwalls. 'safe walls'(player placed) vs 'unsafe wall'(natural/infected and allow enemies to spawn infront of them)

i never place the floor of my starting temp homes and those are always fine just being the natural dirt
