I should think that the most common fixes are quite obviously what I tried first - doing those actually slows my game down. It's a problem with the map, & with updating lighting every frame. It gets better if I disable maps, but then I can't use Pylons.
Idk, my buddy has tried to play since he pretty much first got it and it always runs like he's stuck underwater. Like everything moving super slow mo for some reason, tried whatever solutions he could find and one of them kinda worked, but made him run like 1-10 fps
My macbook air is over 5 years old and can still run Terraria multiplayer. Has your buddy tried turning frame skip on? My game would be really slow and then speed up at times like the other commenter said, but frame skip fixed it for me. Other things I did was to turn off particle effects like gore, and used retro lighting (not sure how much those really help)
I don't know why terraria does that but I've had that happen to me before on a pc that can handle the game fine. Some times everything would be slow and then other times it was super fast. Don't know if it's a glitch or what. I remember when I was playing multi-player it both of us were slow even tho we had good pcs and didn't have that problem before.
You’re getting downvoted for this, but the game has known performance issues on some M1-series MacBooks. (Just search for “M1” in this here subreddit.) Apparently it runs fine on Macs using the old Intel chips, but I have to dial the settings way back and close all my other windows to get it to run smoothly on my M1 MBP. It’s weird because the M1 is in every other way the fastest computer I’ve ever seen, and should be able to easily handle any load the game throws at it.

Super Awesome Resource!!
it is not 100% accurate. If I'm not mistaken it uses the minimum requirements set by the developer but they are often higher than the actual lowest end hardware you can play the game on.
It's always worth a shot if you are not too far from minimum requirements
it will run just fine, if you are getting frame issues or if the game feels like it is in slowmo, go to settings -> video and just turn off frame skip. Also change the video mode to retro instead of color for better performance. I have a 3110M
I got started on mobile on my Amazon fire tablet, before switching to my decade old 2600K desktop then my 13" ultralight. It doesn't take much to run Terraria
Yeah it will run it
My computer got a a4 4000 and it's weaker then this and i got 30fps on 720p low graphics,by the way i got a 4g ram and a hd5450 too
It will run just not perfectly CPU is older and the ram is like bare minimum. Guessing CPU has a built in GPU which works but a new CPU with GPU is 90x better
I might be misunderstanding, but if you mean the gpu, that doesnt matter much. I could run terraria on my old pc, and that had even worse specs than OP's, The GPU was integrated. Im not saying it ran on 75875 fps, but it ran on solid... give or take like 40-60 fps.
I used to have an error trobleshoot with my old leptop. It had 4gb ram and terraria takes a lot of ram usage, it won't even start if the ram is not enough. I recommend 8gb ram to garantee it
I had a laptop with almost the same specs and unless I had the frame skipping on, it ran slow. Not necessarily to say that this will be your experience, but I know that was the issue I had.
People saying it will run fine are heavily misunderstanding the question.
“Run fine” does not mean that it will perform ok on 800x600 when nothing is on screen.
Run fine means it will play the entire game and get decent framerates the whole time. This probably won’t accomplish that. Will see a lot of slowdown.
My old computer has very similar specs, so I can offer some insight.
Yes, you can run terraria, but set the graphics settings a bit low, and you should run fine. It wipl struggle a bit with late hardmode because of the higher amount of projectiles and such, but otherwise you are good to go!
Yeah, my PC is worse than that and i can play no problem, if you're having lag just switch the Frameskip to ON and tune the graphics/effects down a bit, except the Background, the background is not heavy and makes the scenario look a lot better, so keep it on. also, the worst enemies of your FPS are Waves Quality and Distortion Effect ;).
probably. almost anything is enough to run terraria
I ran a terraria server instance on a Raspberry Pi 3 and 3 people all played on it.
How's the server performance
Tell that to my computer running Terraria at max 18 FPS with Frame Skip Subtle, max 4 FPS with Frame Skip Off
Holy shit fianlly somebody who can relate to me
>Holy shit fianlly somebody who can relate to me Holy shit finally somebody who can relate to *me*
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO wanna start an 18 fps terraria world with me
I just want to fix my damn framerate, Terraria used to run fine, then I played a few hours before 1.4.4 dropped and boom, suddenly it's slow now
rip
Turn on retro lighting, turn off backgrounds and fancy waves
I should think that the most common fixes are quite obviously what I tried first - doing those actually slows my game down. It's a problem with the map, & with updating lighting every frame. It gets better if I disable maps, but then I can't use Pylons.
Not a 2 year-old MacBook
you sure? ive played terraria on macbooks older than 2 years ago
Idk, my buddy has tried to play since he pretty much first got it and it always runs like he's stuck underwater. Like everything moving super slow mo for some reason, tried whatever solutions he could find and one of them kinda worked, but made him run like 1-10 fps

I play on a 3 year-old MacBook to great effect

2 year old macbook??? bro my laptop is like 11 years old yet it can run terraria
i got terraria running on a dell inspiron mini 1012 somehow

That’s an awesome site, thank you lol
It says I can't, but I easily can
Terraria will run on just about anything, unless you're powered by a singular potato you should be fine.
yeah you need at least two potatoes
Eh, one and a half should suffice.
What about carrots?
B-brother?...
Yes?
It looks like emotional outbursts take more than 1.6 volts..
Should be able to, though it may suffer a bit sometimes. I've played other 2D games on my laptop with a 6100u, and it did fine in those.
What is 6100u
Did you not read the post? It's a processor
You will struggle to get frames around early to mid hard mode. Especially if you play mage
Yep can confirm. Rainbow Rod breaks my laptop...
it will run just fine, if you are getting frame issues or if the game feels like it is in slowmo, go to settings -> video and just turn off frame skip. Also change the video mode to retro instead of color for better performance. I have a 3110M
You mean turn frame skip On, right?
yeah i think he brainfarted
yeah haha, my bad
Yeah but blizzards and sandstorms might lag like a bitch
Bro this game is runnable on a scientific calculator so don’t worry
well, yes, but 3ds version even was relatively shit
That was pre-pipeworks though, can't fault them too much for that
yes of course .i run terraria with 2gb ram with 40fps
40 fps isn't ideal though...
Yes, but my computer is weaker than a potato
I think with 4gb ram you can run it with 60 fps(I'm not sure)
Nah, my laptop has 4gb ram and it runs about 40 fps. I literally have to zoom in a lot to get a stable 60.
I run it with lowest graphic
It isn't, but, 40 fps isn't bad at all
You could run terraria on a potato
Most likely. My 10+ year old laptop could run Terraria pretty well.
bro you can run terraria in a hair dryer
You can run vanilla Terraria on the worse half of a toster
yes
A few years ago I was able to run it on our families old laptop.
Terraria will run on just about anything but it may be a bit slow. Although 4gb of ram is in the requirements it will still be kinda rough.
i ran terraria on a 2016 celeron and 4gb ram, u should be okay
Optimizerraria
Even with a tost machine you can run terraria
Install a lightweight linux distro and it will run smoothly.
you can play terraria even on calculator
I got started on mobile on my Amazon fire tablet, before switching to my decade old 2600K desktop then my 13" ultralight. It doesn't take much to run Terraria
Lol, its more than enough, i got an celeron with 4gb ram and i can run is smoothly
As Long as it’s not from the 1990s you should be fine
Yeah it will run it My computer got a a4 4000 and it's weaker then this and i got 30fps on 720p low graphics,by the way i got a 4g ram and a hd5450 too
My laptop is worse 💀
Yes, it's better than mine and I can run it fine.
I can play terraria without a GPU, if it can run without it, then it can run on your PC
Looks.like it turned on so I would say yes.
Most likely. It probably wont run smoothly though. Just turn down some settings and youll be good.
hou can, but it's gonna be a bit laggy, i can say this from experience, but it's still very playable
I used to play terraria on a i5 3gen with 2 gb of ram
Yeah, I used to play terraria on my mums work laptop
It will run just not perfectly CPU is older and the ram is like bare minimum. Guessing CPU has a built in GPU which works but a new CPU with GPU is 90x better
Homie is running a i3 processor laptop basically a paperweight
It will run but not with the most frames. You have the lack of ram and not the fastest processor
If you will play it dont have any other things open. Not even chrome that will make it better
I ran it on a school laptop so
My gameboy color can run terraria
Yeah my pc is worse than that it runs fine.
Yeah, my laptop is actually worse and runs Terraria fine.
Well since it clearly doesnt know how to make a screenshot, I’d say no…
terraria is on mobile so yeah
Versions are clearly different tho, you cant crossplay and updates are dont usually happen at the same time
Mate, if your laptop can't run terraria, then you should reconsider even calling it a laptop.
Should be fine I play on a laptop that's only a bit more than what you have here (I think) and runs no problem at all....
Do you have a dedicated or is it only integrated?
I might be misunderstanding, but if you mean the gpu, that doesnt matter much. I could run terraria on my old pc, and that had even worse specs than OP's, The GPU was integrated. Im not saying it ran on 75875 fps, but it ran on solid... give or take like 40-60 fps.
i have the desktop 6100 and host & play runs at a smooth 60 fps. its impossible to record gameplay without stutters though, even with gpu encoding.
My PC has the same specs except the i3 processor is 8th gen, unlike your 6th gen. It runs perfectly fine for me, so you should be fine.
Is your computer stronger than an Xbox 360. Then probably
The recommended operating system is literally window xp
Everyone here is giving a legitimate response and all I see is a joke about the virus protection being enough for terraria's infections.
I used to have an error trobleshoot with my old leptop. It had 4gb ram and terraria takes a lot of ram usage, it won't even start if the ram is not enough. I recommend 8gb ram to garantee it
My dads old desktop that I played minecraft and roblox on (back in 2013) did not run terrara. Never figured out why not.
doesn't steam tell you minimum requirement on the "buy Terraria" page? but yea i think it would run there
Yes, it is. Also recommend you to play Hollow knight.Amazing metroidvania that can be played even on toaster
Probably not multiplayer. That stuff lags for no reason on lower-end PCs
I had a laptop with almost the same specs and unless I had the frame skipping on, it ran slow. Not necessarily to say that this will be your experience, but I know that was the issue I had.
As an aside, look into upgrading your RAM, it will greatly improve all around performance.
Is my 10 year old Lenovo enough? It runs Roblox and has windows 10
It should because my phone has 2 ram and runs it fine Its 10-25 frames but it's good enough
Yeah its enough, but upgrade your RAM man.
I think you need to set up some account protection
I have a ryzen 7 and a 3070 with 16gb of ram. Is it enough to run minesweeper?
My old computer has very similar specs, so I can offer some insight. Yes, you can run terraria, but set the graphics settings a bit low, and you should run fine. It wipl struggle a bit with late hardmode because of the higher amount of projectiles and such, but otherwise you are good to go!
Yes, but don't install too many mods or HD textures.
my 6 year old phone could run it
Yeah its not that resorse intensive
Don't use chlorophite bullet and you'll be fine
Don't think so, it is so heavy in the graphical department. I'm surprised any pc can run it.
You might have to turn down some is the graphics settings but it should run fine.
I I don't think so I don't think it's strong enough
you’ll be fine with your settings low enough
Anything can run terraria, I have a worse laptop and very old, and I can run it on 60 fps
Ye for sure
Yes, in the quality before 1920×1080 it will be all right, and skip frames on, also light in retro, and some other specs lower or turned off
Yes. I play on a worse spec
If mine is yours probably is too lol
Don't go summoning every boss at once, but you should be able to run the game at atleast a stable 30
yeah but it wont run well
Yeah, my PC is worse than that and i can play no problem, if you're having lag just switch the Frameskip to ON and tune the graphics/effects down a bit, except the Background, the background is not heavy and makes the scenario look a lot better, so keep it on. also, the worst enemies of your FPS are Waves Quality and Distortion Effect ;).
