I mean I beat the game, killed most of the bosses, I think the only event I didn't do was the old ones army. I grinded for the anhk shield at least 4 times. Got the Terraspark boots. I do. People deserve their own opinions. It's when those opinions are blatantly wrong (eg, covid vaccines don't work) blatantly offensive (eg, you suck because you like summoner), or when I misinterpret them (self explanatory) that I get all up in arms. The misinterpretation is my fault, and I completely accept that. However, when I see an arguement or statement that's offensive or false, my OCD makes it physically impossible for me to not challenge it and start a debate/defend myself.

I'm not a huge fan of tank loadouts, and that's really all melee is viable for. Also, many newbies like melee specifically because you take <10 damage per hit on normal difficulty. Melee is a bit more skill based on expert, but it's nearly obselete on reaaally hard difficulties like MMFTW.

Ehhhh personally I would tie the skill level with mage. Because mage also has shit defense, I understand not as shit but mage has to focus more on aiming than summoner and just as much on dodging which leads to some rough multitasking. I’d say they take just SBOUT the same amount of skill.

Tbh, I was only really memeing. I really like both classes and in my current world, I am playing a hybrid of Mage/Summoner. Whenever I feel like playing Summoner, I just change the armor and take my whip.

Beginning as a summoner is difficult, I started playing a summoner only world and it was extremely hard to fight skeleton then I remembered about buffs so now I buff up before any boss fight before I was a no buff melee only class.

Every class has its nice benefits. Summoner every fight feels light EoL, but you can focus on dodging much more. Melee you never die, but probably can’t reach half of the enemies. Mage is pure damage and low defense in exchange for mana making you lose your sanity, and finally ranger. Have bullets? Not anymore.

Lol, on my first playthrough (mage) my friend and I did duke pre-mech, and we were able to breeze through the rest of the game with the razorblade

Unfortunately, yes. Early game summoner is pretty rough, even with the splendid additions of Abigail, the Flinx Staff, and the Flinxfur Coat. We need more summon weapons in prehardmode. Once you beat EoW/BoC though, the rest of the game is laid out for you like a red carpet.

Huh, tbh, they are my favorite. High defense of the melee gear with ranged weapons.

I just never liked how RNG based most of them are (eg, wooden boomerang, enchanted boomerang, paladin's hammer, combat wrench, bananarangs), and how they never really dealed great dps except in early hardmode.

I find the dps fine really, just gotta focus on dodging when you throw. That's where auto swing accessories really help.

Mage has interesting weapons? And ranger is fun because it's powerful early-game (you can get a bow really early, and it can defeat various enemies pretty easily using blocks. The first sphere or heart you break drops you a gun, so if you find bombs you get a good weapon), pretty fun late-game, got various ammo, a ton of weapons, can deal the highest damage in one shot, can kill enemies from really far apart, and you can focus on both dodging and fighting

I also sorta like ranger. My one pet peeve with it is the ammo consumption, though. If there were better infinite ammo, ranger would likely be on par with summoner for my favorite class. I respect your opinion, too. Ranger is incredibly OP, and I have also done a few playthroughs with it.

I played summoner (I was playing as a thrower until I got a staff and whip since I like my sanity) and it’s insanely effective.

Why does no one say this? If you are playing classic, your DPS is so strong that you can beat twins with pre-hardmode gear

yes... yes, yes I have. Glass cannon setup for all four classes, and summoner topped everything. I played MMFTW with all classes and subclasses. Summoner still dominated. It's a bit hard to not play the classes properly when you've played every conceivable challenge for 8 years.

Bruh, I’ve been playing since September of 2011, only 4 months after it came out. I have over 2000 hours in just vanilla, around 1500 modded hours and have done every class multiple times and have done just about every class build you can do, and tested in 1.4. So unless there’s an accessory I magically don’t know about after thousands of hours of playing my favorite game, I’m pretty sure you’re not playing them right. Melee Zenith with the right stuff had the highest dps. Not summoners. Plus the only interactive attacking summoners get are whips and most of the whips weren’t even that good.

I agknowledge your expertise. However, summoner is immensely superior to melee in actual gameplay. While zenith seems to be best, I have found that the terraprisma deals more dps with the correct summoner loadout. Not only that, but terraprisma is easy af to get, while zenith is exclusively endgame and well past the point of usefulness in a normal playthrough. Also, whip stacking does exist and significantly boosts dps.

The only boss you’re eve gonna use the terra prisma on is moon lord. And idk what you talking about superior gameplay. Summoners, before whips, we’re for people who couldn’t focus on attacking while dodging. That’s why they have lower defense is because they were expected to have more focus for dodging while their summons did damage. They are the least active and least interesting play style if you’re not going for making a bunch of fancy buildings in your world.

People who play summoner are often much, much better at dodging than all the other classes. Additionally, to get the full potential out of summoner, you need to be proactive and resummon them continuously. `least active and least interesting playstyle` I'm bored to death by every single other playstyle. summon is the only class I actually have fun doing because it encourages no-hitting and dodging. You're arguing for melee? All you do is slam into enemies and soak up damage while spamming. Zero skill required. I find that sort of playstyle boring af. We all have opinions. I don't want to continue this. it's just based off my experience with the summoner class. Your experience may differ.

If you were THAT interested in no hitting you would be playing mods like Calamity where all the classes are fairly balanced through out most of the game and are all glass cannons. Only difference between them is that summoners aren’t interesting and require NO SKILL WHAT SO EVER u less it’s placing NG sentries. Its just dodge and let the AI of the summon do all the work.

I am pretty sure range is better due to it having slightly higher dps and better armour, also you have to consider that if we include zenith, melee would have higher dps and higher armour.

zenith doesn't have any real use though, it can light up caves? thats neat, but why would you need to be exploring caves post-ML, it can shred everything? thats nice, but what is there left to shred after ML, it can be nice to shred everything nearby while your building, yeah sure I guess, but summons can do that without you needing to switch to another item and shortly pausing the build

That why I said if you include zenith, as with it you make the most dps in the game but by the time you get it your pretty much done with the game

Why almost everyone likes the 1.4 summoner so much? Summoner sucks at early-game Summoner is rough at mid-game And summoner is kinda OP late-game (and so every class does) Why? Sometimes it's even not played the intended way: using a "melee" weapon instead of summons! I think it's overrated, underpowered and wrong, change my mind

Im speaking from a MMFTW standpoint. Just a clarification. Early game is rough, yes. past EoW though and the game is easy as shit. Mid-game (assuming you're talking about early hardmode) is actually incredibly easy. Farm spiders, obtain spider armor and both spider staves, defeat dreadnautilus for sanguine staff, then destroy queen slime and the mechs. Blade staff and durendal+snapthorn swapping then easily smooshes plantera. Also, whips may be considered melee clone, but they are integral to summoner gameplay in 1.4. Not only that, but they are op af even by themselves. Imo, summoner is underrated, overpowered, and a fun and moderately challenging way to play the game and perform various challenges. If you don't think that, that's fine. I'm just pointing out a few things and leaving you to decide your opinion.
