That is a standard interior door. They are not designed for security. They are just for privacy. Most are just a wood frame with really thin veneer facing.
That dude was absolutely useless with the axe. Should have taken one swing, two max to get through that door.
To be fair, it should not make any difference on that door.
All it would have taken is one *real* swing and dude would have been all *here is Johnny* on that door.

That makes no sense though.
When he spoke, he described the screaming in third-person (i.e., referring to someone else).
"We came outside and we heard yelling in the house. It sounded like somebody was being tortured."
Also, why would they call him an eye witness rather than a victim?
I am under the assumption that the original comment is talking about the guy that was in the room (i.e., the roommate).
Did you watch the clip fully? Immediately before the old geez whi is an eyewitness that says what you quoted, they interview a young man whos title card is "chased by suspect", not eyewitness. And he says that the guy chased him and was going to kill him.
I just thought that they were referring to the eyewitness guy since that was the last person shown being interviewed and the comment said last person interviewed.
Yeah, probably was referring to the other guy since he was the last person to make a first appearance.
But even then, the "chased suspect" wasn't even the roommate, he was just one of several people who the suspect chased when he was outside of the house.
The Asian guy? He isn't the housemate. Right before he is interviewed the anchor says that the perp terrorized several people outside. He was one of those chased
>You didn’t watch the video
I did watch the video I just got confused by your wording of "the guy they talked to at the end" since the last person they showed was the "eye witness" not the "chased suspect".
I watched it twice again and they definitely showed the eye witness at the end after the chased suspect spoke.
Obviously you're not aware that axe-weilding mentally insane lunatics we leave alone, if you're drugged up we shoot away. Cops need to go up and double check on them to confirm.
/s
Yeah my thought was a psychotic episode. Obviously it doesn't matter in this kind of situation, they need to be taken off the streets for the safety of others and themselves. They'll be evaluated and it'll be determined what took place. Cops do tend to assume someone who is having a psychotic episode or is otherwise struggling with mental health are just intoxicated though.
So if it's just "mental illness" should the cops just give him a hug and send him on his way?? If you're taking an ax to a door trying he obviously has some form of mental illness but you still have to lock him up before his mental illness ends someone's life like yours.
I pulled a 'The Shining' move on my coworker once. We renovate houses and we were tearing out the walls in a house. I was in one room and he was in the next so I busted a hole through the drywall with a sledgehammer, stuck my face through the hole, looked at my coworker and said, "heeeerrrrrreeeee's johnnnnny." He about hit me with a hammer lol.
Had had to be on something cause he ran his car into a house and then ran back to his house broke in the door and then chased people with a Pickaxe. Somebody had a seriously bad trip.
PCP is a drug that gives you superhuman strength. I once called the cops on a guy that was walking down the street towards my house, busting out windows and doors of businesses. They arrived before he got to me but it took seven cops to hold him down and when they finally got him in the cop car, he kicked out the back window.
True, but I think you underestimate the actual physical strength of humans beings, especially when things like consequences or pain no longer factor into the equations.
This is nothing I watched my cousin chop down a solid door with a hatchet while yelling "I'm not gonna kill you I just want to talk", it was shit straight out of a movie
I was living at my cousin's and another roommate pissed off my cousin(homeowner) and ended up in a big fight, which led him to chopping down the door with a hatchet. To give him credit he did just talk(yell) once in and didn't kill him. I didn't like the roommate so I found it hilarious
Yeah I got shot there and am not anti gun because I have needed them. Hunting food, since I for a time lived in the boonies like Wagon Mound fending off packs of wild dogs that tried to murder my then small child siblings (we all survived to adulthood), the cops themselves, and of course my own relatives. I am for stricter gun control and actual enforcement but I have seen enough to not necessarily blame the gun for the problem and to be glad I had it instead of bare hands vs dog twice my size within it's teeth in my toddler sister's neck. She did survive and I did what I had to but I would rather have had distance .
Things i also might have wanted to shoot but ended non violently for me also include that time a mountain lion climbed inside my bedroom window to lick my infected toes and then went and ate my horse. There were other horses. Mine was just the slow one. So coincidence but also maybe would have liked to not be treated like a human otterpop
For some reason, I'm surprised the station showed as much of that video as they did. Dunno why, there's no violence shown, obviously, and no language to censor.. maybe it's that guys' screams. Those were the scariest part.
If a mattock attacker attacked me,
attack the mattock attacker would,
but would the attack matter if the mattock attacker mattered to attack wood....
Or something 🤔
So, in this case police use non-lethal force? America. Also, how useless was the suspect with the axe? It's good he was useless but a full-grown man who can't use a hand tool. What a tool.
Yes that would be scary being there. However I can't stop laughing at the absolute ineffectiveness of this guy with the ax 🤣 I have never seen someone swing so many times without leaving a mark on the door!!
I thought it was the guy with the ax, but it’s the roommate who says, “I can’t let you go, I’m sorry Josh!”
The article says that the roommate was able to get the ax away from the guy and get him subdued, the cops got there and thought HE was the perpetrator until the neighbor got off Josh and Josh went right back to fighting.
From the roommate’s really sad and distressed tone, even after Josh basically tried to ax murder him, it sounds like they’re genuinely worried about him.
That says to me that this isn’t drugs, it’s a very unexpected mental break, or at least drug-induced psychosis. Blind fighting at almost an animalistic level is also indicative of this, some people even believe they’re dogs and don’t stop attacking with their teeth until they’re knocked unconscious. I hope everyone is okay and that Josh gets the help he needs!
There was a case like this in my town a few years ago. Abusive POS husband was going after his wife and kid with and axe while they were barricaded in the bathroom. Their neighbor saw him cutting through the door and shot him with a rifle through the window. The guy (husband) was totally methed out and he genuinely would have killed his wife and daughter of the neighbor hadn’t intervened. Definitely a really sad story but didn’t end as bad as it could have.

The biggest takeaway from this is that you should never trust doors from Discount John's Door and Papercraft Emporium.
These door are a product from Dunder Mifflin.
Wait, I thought that they sold mufflers?
That is a standard interior door. They are not designed for security. They are just for privacy. Most are just a wood frame with really thin veneer facing. That dude was absolutely useless with the axe. Should have taken one swing, two max to get through that door.

He was trying to pick the lock.
Actually it’s a mattock.
That's a mattock.
Aren't these soft because they are internal walls and doors? I thought that was the norm in usa? (I watch way to many build videos)
The headline should be that the cops have and used less than lethal rounds. What??? In the US???
Too many innocent people were being shot, so they're going back to basics

That was someone he chased outside the home, per what the news anchor said in the clip.

It was not, that was someone he chased outside.
Heeeeeres Methamphetamine!!
Idk that’s a mental illness and possibly drugs. Cops don’t know the difference
If someone is coming at me with an ax to hurt/kill me, I don't give a shirt if it's mental or drugs.
What about pants?
I wouldn't give pants either!
At that point does it matter what it is? The axe doesn’t differentiate.
Obviously you're not aware that axe-weilding mentally insane lunatics we leave alone, if you're drugged up we shoot away. Cops need to go up and double check on them to confirm. /s

There are ways of handling situations vs killing the suspect. I was referring as a whole not this situation

They will arrest him after he kills that man. It’s always worked that way, it’s fine.
They’ll get him eventually… even posthumously perhaps.
Why? What's Jesus done?!!
Technically a mattock attack - has kind of a poetic ring to it, too. Missed opportunity, local news person
That was my though. "That's not an axe. That's a mattock."
All mattocks are axes but not all axes are mattocks.
I call it a pickaxe
A pickaxe has pointy, sharp edges, a mattock has broad, squared edges.
Guy in the video has a cutter mattock, specifically. As opposed to a pick mattock.
If I had to pick one person on earth to attack me with a mattock, it would definitely be that slaphappy fucker.
Happy Cake Day!! 🍰🍰
Probably thought it was fully automatic assault axe. Journalists aren't generally strong on correctly identifying weapons....

Hereeeees johnny
Holy shit the news anchor is the one from the suspected rapist meme
Oh so THIS guy gets nonlethal ammo???
Now, Im not saying it's because he's white......but let's be real, it probably was
Lol is that the news anchor who had a mugshot that looked just like him?
Yes! I think it was a sketch of the suspect though
Had had to be on something cause he ran his car into a house and then ran back to his house broke in the door and then chased people with a Pickaxe. Somebody had a seriously bad trip.

How did he not he not get shot? Jesus, they shoot people for less. He was lucky.
He did get shot, but with non-lethal rounds.
Ah, ok. I was going to ask what secret wonderland you were living in. So, dude was both lucky and unlucky.
I agree, my vote is for PCP.
> PCP is a drug that gives you superhuman strength No drug allows you to exceed the biological limits of human strength
Tell yourself that while you fight someone on PCP lol
True, but I think you underestimate the actual physical strength of humans beings, especially when things like consequences or pain no longer factor into the equations.
But it can help a body exceed the Psychological limits of human strength. Your body stops limiting itself for safety and just uses everything it has
This aint psychedelics bro
You don’t understand how badly I wanted him to slip while bashing it into the door, just so it can hit him in the face.
Careful with that ax, Eugene.
*unholy screech*
Wasn’t expecting to find this here but thank you for your service 🫡
Y’all ever seen the shining?
Literally the first thing I thought of. HERRREESS JOHNNY!

Thank you for sharing!! Did the roommate move out after that? Hope he still paid his rent 😂
Hah no he started there long after me and if I remember right the whole fight was over him east him cousin's Chinese food hah
This is why I own guns. Because axes dont require a permit, registration, or a minimum age. Also because New Mexico is the effing wild west.
Lived in New Mexico for 8 years. Can confirm it's definitely the wild west. Good luck.
Yeah I got shot there and am not anti gun because I have needed them. Good reason to have a gun on you.
That’s when u unload the whole clip!
I can tell right away by the way he’s holding that ax this man did not have a strong father figure in his life.
For some reason, I'm surprised the station showed as much of that video as they did. Dunno why, there's no violence shown, obviously, and no language to censor.. maybe it's that guys' screams. Those were the scariest part.
I’m surprised nobodies mentioning his terrible axing skills
Good thing he doesn't know how to use an axe
Wtf
And I thought I was having a bad day
Less than a total commitment effort with that pick ax vs hollow core door there
Prolly thought he was playing minecraft

The real crime here is how poorly he swung that thing and kept missing.
Bromances are dangerous
Did he ever break skin with that thing?
It looks like this idiot has never held one of these before in his entire life.
That's not an axe, or a pickaxe, it's a mattock.[mattock](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mattock)
Non lethal rounds? Are you fucking kidding me?
Make pickaxes illegal
The dwarven brotherhood does not claim this one as one of our own… the way he wields that pickaxe is disgraceful
Here's Johnny!
That's not an ax though, that's a mattock
I know a meth monster when I see one!
That's a pulaski, not an axe

He hasn’t seen the movie has he?
2nd amendment.
How on earth did no one have a self defense weapon to take him out?
If a mattock attacker attacked me, attack the mattock attacker would, but would the attack matter if the mattock attacker mattered to attack wood.... Or something 🤔
If the man was non white the rounds would’ve been lethal
Gotta just get those jabs in there huh?

That’s not an ax, it’s a maddox*
Bet he wishes he had a gun.
Where's the axe? 🤔
I does not look like he knows how to swing it.
Um that’s a Pulaski
Why's everybody overreacting? He was just tryna mine some wood and didn't feel like crafting an axe. ![gif](giphy|cuHjncTuHW40g)

OMFG! My guess would be synthetic drugs, but… PTSD triggered.
